"Inside Fun on a rainy day in SF Its a good way to spend a few hours with your buddies when the weather is crappy outside. The climbing gym rents harnesses and shoes and will even give you a free class on how to belay."

The reason to come here is for Sergey! He’s incredibly knowledgeable, welcoming, and always goes the extra mile to help everyone feel confident and supported—whether you’re brand new or a seasoned climber. Sergey has such great energy and is genuinely passionate about the community here. If you get the chance to interact with him, you’re in for a treat! This gym is lucky to have him. Highly recommend!

Google
I was thinking pricey, but it’s really no more expensive than any other climbing gym. Movement has everything, big walls, bouldering, weights, yoga, tension boards, you name it, they got it. The view of the bay from the windows is incredible, like breathtakingly gorgeous. Personal opinion: I wasn’t super stoked on some of the routes I did, some were super fun, but not many routes in my style and some holds were a bit old and polished, but to be fair, that’s me trying to be critical. Sweet gym, not my vibe, but I recognize a beautiful gym when I see one.

Google
Route setting: 5/5 - great routes. Gear: 2/5 - extremely run down gear, mist bring your own. Owner really needs to resupply rentals… but they do have the bare necessities. Location: 8/5 - just ridiculously cool views. Despite the shortcomings here, it’s worth a visit. (The scooter area is off limits here, but there is a bus line) Staff: 5/5 - chill, good vibes. Notes: The other comments here about walls being bare or shut down are true. For such a beautiful gym, it’s a shame things go unattended here and walls are taped off. There is enough to go around but it’s far from perfect here.

I love this place so much! I took up climbing a year and a half ago and I climb twice a week. I love the community, the classes, and all of the routes. It’s my happy place. Highly recommend if you want to try climbing in SF. They also just added an upstairs lounge, which is really comfy to hang out in.

Google
Absolutely epic gym. Great views from the big windows out into the bay. See Alcatraz as you climb. Very creative and fun routes with challenging features. Really cool bouldering with fun finishes. Staff is super friendly and helpful. They pick up the phone too. Can’t wait to go back.

Google
I pay an absurd amount of money for you to close the bouldering area for multiple consecutive days. For people that o ly get to come in once or twice a week. This sucks. I'm going to switch to touchstone. Update: it's 10 days after they first shut down bouldering walls, and they still don't have them all opened back up. Canceled membership. Update 2: one week post competition. There are still 2 walls that remain unset. Can't believe people pay $110 a month for blank walls.

Google
Top rope routes are very creative with interesting beta, there's a high concentration of 5.10a to 5.11d routes in this gym, so as an intermediate you'll never get bored. They have lots of hard routes too, but not a lot of dedicated lead routes. There are several cracks, one of which is actually adjustable. Bouldering is good, but the beginner routes start are harder than other gyms. Santa Clara has more beginner options, while this gym has a wide and even range of problems. Overall the routesetters at this gym are A+ on quality. They have nearly every training board that exists, the bluetooth bouldering wall, full weight training gym with treadmills and everything. Facilities are fantastic as this is an old factory building on the edge of Crissy Field, and from the walls you can literally look out at the bay and the SF skyline. They had the windows open and there was a gentle sea breeze coming in along with tons of natural light. This gym well exceeded all expectations, A+ 10/10 bravo folks.

Google
Beautiful location, though a bit out of the way for most SF residents. Sadly, while the price has increased noticably over the last few years, what you actually get for your membership has decreased. The mats are wonky in many places. The setting is extremely basic and boring now, and the kilter board has numerous broken lights. There aren't very many free weights, but they do try to pack a reasonable number of cardio machines into the space. One bright spot is the rowing machines, which seem like the fly wheel or fans must've been replaced. Either that or they just do a much much better job keeping them clean than other gyms.

Yelp
First time climbing and first time at this gym. Laura was an outstanding instructor!!! Her positive energy and spirit helped me conquer my fear of climbing and heights. She was patient, supportive, reassuring and uplifting. I had the best experience with her help and I can't wait to return!

Yelp
I used to rate this gym 5 stars as it was my favorite gym in the Bay Area but the more I've gone here the more I've noticed consistent issues with the management of this gym. They seem to generally not want to be there and make solving member issues a non priority. I still love the gyms location at the Presidio (though the 3.5$ dollar an hour parking fee is nuts) and the work space they have if you want to sit and get stuff done on your laptop is great but the lack of actual gym equipment space compared to other locations like Belmont, Santa Clara and Sunnyvale is really noticeable if you care about those things. They close parts of the gym randomly and make it inaccessible when events are going on which as a paying member seems like a a failure on Movements part to honor the membership you pay for. Last weekend was particularly jarring as the gym was essentially closed as they had back to back events and closed off the bouldering area entirely on Sunday. I've started going to other gyms in SF and Dogpatch boulders is just run better. Its a bummer since the location is beautiful but you want to actually enjoy the gym you pay for, not just deal with its issues.

Yelp
Love this place. My 6yo loves it so much and made it to the top of the beginner ones. My 9yo was able to face her fear of heights in a positive atmosphere and is excited to go again. My husband climbed also and was sore the next day. Great workout. Great people.

Yelp
I came here with a coworker when we were in town for work. It was a first time at a Movement climbing gym for the both of us. Situated in a nice secluded and quiet area near the Golden Gate Bridge, this gym uses the space it has well for having a gym with free weights and cardio machines, top rope lead climbing spanning about 50 feet high, and plenty of bouldering space across the first floor and loft-like area. Compared to my home gym, the boulder grades are roughly similar and sometimes more thought-provoking. We very much enjoyed the boulder problems and were thoroughly worked out physically and mentally.

Yelp
Dynamic Duo : Nick Hamilton and Nick Warnery, instructors at Movement SF, made our recent first visit for rock climbing, unforgettable! Under their expert, professional guidance, our group of 8 beginners had an exhilarating, aerobic and energizing experience. Their boundless patience, encouragement, and understanding of each person's abilities/ limitations and adaptations thereto, created a trusting teaching/learning environment. We learned how to tie the safety rope, and to try different challenge levels. What a sense of accomplishment when each of us "raced" to the top at our own pace! We will definitely return for this all round aerobic exercise in a beautiful setting with cool, refreshing ocean breezes coming through huge window openings and views of the Bay.

Yelp
Staff is very helpful and friendly. They helped me through my membership process smoothly. Would go back to this gym in a heartbeat even though I'm from SoCal.

Yelp
I came here about a couple months ago with the intention of doing indoor rock climbing with a harness, but was told I needed to take a class and pass it. They were all booked with classes for that day so we had to do bouldering. I felt that the gym was clean and the locker room was very nice and well kept. There are some beginner bouldering paths as well as different challenging ones. I would like to come back for indoor rock climbing, but be prepared ahead of time that you will need to take a test before they allow you to indoor rock climb. Also there is paid parking in a lot as well as around and out front of the gym.

Yelp
Overpriced, over-hyped and rude staff, unfortunately that was my experience. Makes me suspicious of all these positive reviews, but maybe they genuinely love it who knows.

Yelp
I love this climbing gym! Shoutout for Dena for the belay lessons! It was great learning about how to safely belay our partner with pbus, pull/break/under/slide and then the check of the harness from DH56 double back, hard point, 5 parts of the rope and then more than 6 inches. It was super helpful breaking things down in a digestible way with the acornyms. Also The snowman, scarf and give it a carrot nose for the figure eight knot was super helpful. I'm so stoked to have passed and also the yoga classes are all super awesome! I look forward to my next session!

Peter P.

Yelp
This facility is just fine. There is a variety of climbing options, as well as a serviceable gym and some cardio machines. If your goal is to join the best gym for lifting or cardio, this probably isn't it, but the climbing stuff is good. One thing that perturbed me greatly is that when we signed up for a one month membership, we were specifically told that the membership would not auto-renew. A few months later, I noticed that I had been getting billed for a few months despite this promise. I called and talked to someone and they are trying to figure it out. I will update when I find out whether they will properly refund me or not.

Yelp
Best Movement gym I've been to! Fun climbs, really cool upside-down cave set up, and very straightforward available parking. Also really close to the Golden Gate bridge and Crissy fields for a nice after workout cool down.

Yelp
I love this gym!!!! My boyfriend and I agree it's the best rock climbing gym in San Francisco. I go to yoga and he goes bouldering then after class we get back to it and belay together. There's also gym equipment, cardio machines, a few work out classes, and climbing classes. Even if you go to climb alone there's usually someone to Belay you, -all you have to do is tell the front desk and they make an announcement.

Shane S.

Yelp
we took a ropes course with a lady who was very nice and helpful. however, when I came back the next week for my belay check, the front desk person who was helping me was incredibly rude. I honestly could not believe how condescending (and honestly mean) they were. They absolutely do not belong in a customer service role. I will be finding a different gym

Yelp
Great climbing gym! Awesome bouldering areas. There is a bouldering section where you can top out!! There is no free parking around the gym; however if you have a National Park Pass, you can park for free at the end of the block in the West Bluff Picnic Area parking lot.

Wren M.

Yelp
Best chain of gyms! Beginner friendly, kind staff and clean locker rooms. They change routes frequently!

Alexandra V.

Yelp
Really nice big gym for both top roping and bouldering. Parking can be a little difficult and is paid by the hour

Yelp
After I got married, my wife and I wanted a new activity. We decided to start rock climbing. After checking out Mission Cliffs and Planet Granite, there was no doubt in our minds that we wanted to become members at Planet Granite. It was cleaner, less crowded, and plenty of routes to choose from. Since we haven't climbed in a while, we needed to take the belay class. David taught us everything we needed to know and did it with such passion and enthusiasm that it was fun learning. Needless to say, we passed our test on the first try. Our first couple of weeks as members has been great! We've gone to climb numerous times and also took a yoga class. The yoga instructors are top notch and known throughout the city.

C S.

Yelp
My son has gone to Planet Granite to learn climbing and for summer camp and now that it's changed to Movement it's still great and maybe even better. Recently I took an intro to climbing class and my teacher, Laura, was great. She knew her stuff which I assumed she would btu was also a great teacher and made me feel very comfortable. She also helped with a billing/charge issue and - even though the gym was busy - she was diligent and figured it out for me. She pulled in Nick P and her supervisor, Mikayla, and they were all great. the level of service was great and noticeable that it's better than the average customer service. We're fans of Movement and I feel comfortable having my son spend time there climbing with his friends.

Yelp
I started climbing 45 days ago after a 2 weeks trial period. The first step was to take a belay class (free), then the belay test (free too) and then I was able to come either by myself (some people that are also coming by themselves, can partner up and belay with you), or with my partner to top rope or boulder. I feel that the quality and diversity of the routes make it possible and enjoyable to come every day. The place is rarely packed but I recommend to get there before 8AM or after 7PM. They use gri-gri instead of belay devices (compared to Touchstone) so it feels very safe. Some really good climbers come here so you can watch, learn from them and progress. Staff is great, and very helpful.

Yelp
I took my girls here for a climbing lesson on a Monday (no school due to a holiday) and they had such a blast! Parking was free because we went on a federal holiday but you would have to pay for parking on non holidays days. The place was clean and the front desk was friendly. If this is your first time here you will have to fill out a waiver (option to fill out online also). The girls had Mundo as their instructor and had a great time. He is patient and works well with kids. We will be going back for more lessons and for more climbing time! The bathroom is also very clean! Thank you planet granite for a great time! We will be back for more!

Yelp
Let me start by saying it's been forever since I have climbed, with that being said I'm ashamed I have waited this long to gecko once more! And Planet Granite was a great place to jog my memory. Amazing layout, this space has so many levels and different walls to scale I wasn't sure where to start! Bae signed us up for a introduction class and couldn't have enjoyed my experience more. Our Belay instructor was Cody, he was more than patient and just all around a fantastic instructor. I really appreciated how thorough he was, pop quizzing us all the way to the end. As I looked around to take in the vibe and peeps that were "hanging out". Friendly, fun, and some seriously amazing skills being executed by staff and members alike. I had a blast and cannot wait to return! Climb on!

Yelp
One of the best climbing gyms I been to. Many climbing routes of varying difficulty from beginner to advanced and a huge section of bouldering walls. There's a fairly decent selection of free weights for getting a workout in as well as a good selection of exercise machines. They offer yoga classes and lots of other classes throughout the week that are all included in your membership. The staff is friendly what's not to like. The only downside really is that it gets a little bit crowded in the evenings and on weekends.

Yelp
I switched over to PG from the other climbing gym in the area due to the fact that the other gym is not remaining open during coronavirus, and the one time it did open for a few weeks, they limited the frequency of visits to twice a week. Though PG is much farther from me, it has no limit on visits, and given my objective is to get back in shape more quickly, it's worth the commute. PG appears to be following all the mandated guidelines: - limiting capacity via requiring reservations - mandatory masks, asking all COVID 19 symptom questions of everyone before each visit - they've shut down all locker room areas aside from the bathrooms - I see the staff constantly walking around and sanitizing I feel safe. And given transmission via surfaces has been shown to be a minimal risk, and mask wearing to be more pertinent, I feel fine with the holds situation. My sanity, should also be weighed when considering the risks I choose to take during this pandemic, and I cannot describe how much happier I've been sense being able to climb again-- despite how painfully weak of a climber I've become. A non-corona review: Staff is nice. Place is truly beautifully situated with the view of Chrissy fields and The water. Copious rope routes. Two floors of bouldering problems with a fun slide/overhang wall connecting the two. The one request I have, which is rather emphatic: - Please play some music loud enough for the entire gym to enjoy. It's sort of sad, and so very quiet without it given the capacity limit. Even a soundtrack of people talking would be preferred to the relative silence. I truly hope they are able to stay open.

Yelp
Finally got around to visiting the Planet Granite SF location after years of being a member and going primarily the Belmont location and sometimes the Sunnyvale location. So fun! Lots of challenging walls, including a fun section of stalactites where you have to climb to them, and shift over. It's quite a scary thought since they are really high and there's nothing underneath you. The view of the bay and of Alcatraz is also pretty darn spectacular. Definitely planning a next trip already!

Yelp
I'm taking a star off because it's definitely gone downhill lately. I used to always know the gym manager, and I have no idea who it even is anymore. They must leave at 5pm, where in the past the co-managers took turns staying later and getting to know the members. They would chat with us, etc. Even the staff seems less well-trained. I had to explain to a staff member why she couldn't climb under me while I was leading. They don't walk around and get to know the members anymore -- which also means they aren't checking for safety as often anymore either. The overall vibe has just changed. It feels less targeted towards climbers and more towards casual climbers/general fitness. My biggest issue is the morning fitness classes. They take over the whole weights area from like 6am-8am, so anyone who wants to workout in the morning can't. I pay a lot of money for this gym (and it goes up every year!), and should have access to any area of it that I need. I need to do my PT in the morning, and I've had to basically say, "No I'm not moving, this is the only time I can do this."

Yelp
"If I don't become a Bond girl in my next life, Spiderwoman is cool too." These were exactly my thoughts as I pressed my hands onto the rock and steadied my footing onto the teeny sliver of hope. I must've looked ridiculous doing a spread eagle against the wall hanging on for dear life. I am climbing again after a 6 year hiatus, why did it take me so long to get back! Bouldering is a bit different from rock climbing: the wall only goes up to 15 - 18 feet high, you don't need a harness and there's a soft pad to catch your fall. I needed something to break my usual dance/yoga routine and my friend JUST happened to be the bouldering expert. Knowing he's an awesome friend, I knew I was in good hands. Plus, I can't turn down an oppurtunity to work out at one of the most amazing place ever! have you seen views of the Golden Gate bridge across Chrissy Field? why, YES. I'll sweat if I have a view like THAT. A day pass is just $19 and $4 for shoe rental. Little did I know that climbing would bring out the dirty side of both of us. I didn't think I'd be coming up with lame lines like , "damn, check out that ass!", "dude, you look good in spandex. No, I mean, you look REALLY good in spandex" or "Can I dip my hand in your chalk bag?" (wink, wink) Kidding aside, climbing builds strength not only in your upper body and legs, but it's all about strategy too. Doing a V0 versus V3 requires a totally different set of skills. And even if you think you mapped out the rock wall in your head, once you actually start climbing it, it can be a whole different ball game. I also like the fact that bouldering develops your problem solving skills. And color coordination skills. And hand and eye motor skills. Can't really say that about running on a treadmill right? If at the end of the hour, your forearms don't feel tight, your hands aren't raw or you haven't chipped your nails, you're doing it wrong. Bruises on your knees the next day definitely earn you extra bragging rights. R-E-S-P-E-C-T. I hope I've inspired you to give bouldering a try. Just remember to climb the wall with courage, keep moving up and hold onto the rock with every ounce of strength you've got. And for heaven's sake, don't look down.

Yelp
This place can't be in a better location. 1) On beautiful Crissy field 2) Plenty of parking 3) Great view of Alcatraz and the bay while you climb I had a great experience. The only things that irritated me was that if you are a newcomer they absolutely will not let a friend teach you belaying. You HAVE to take their class. On the upside, they sell a beginner's package and have classes that are reasonably priced. I've been to Mission Cliffs and this place is way nicer. I would go to Mission Cliffs with a friend because I would be able to teach them belaying on their first time. I thought the music was a bit loud and it was difficult to hear my partner yell out commands, which is definitely not a good thing when your life is on the line. The men's rooms here are spotless. They have a sauna and are totally immaculate. i would definitely go back.

Yelp
Fun place for all ages. Prices are a bit high for a day pass but if you become a member it seems like the facilities offer yoga as well as access to gym equipment and weights. We dropped in for a day pass to take younger children climbing and I was glad to see lots of other younger children climbing as well. Super family friendly establishment. I was able to belay my nieces with a short belay test. Otherwise they have classes intermittently for about 30 with a day pass to climb that you can do as well. For children, there are staff on site that seemed to be helping kiddos belay since you must be 13 to belay. Overall, friendly local establishment with a fe bouldering sections and a nice variety of climbing walls.

Yelp
Planet granite is a great climbing gym. My sister is a member so I go occasionally with her whenever I have the chance. The staff are nice, chill, and knowledgeable. Their bathrooms are clean and have many gym necessities. Towel service is available! There are many different types of walls you could climb. Bouldering is also available (when you rock climb with no harness) and have a variety of routes/challenges/levels for you to pick from. Planet granite is 2 stories. There is yoga available, plenty of cardio machines, a free weight lifting area, and just a lot of open space to do whatever kind of fitness you'd like to do. It's awesome! Love that daily passes are available too and staff are welcoming to make sure waivers are signed and to make people feel safe and comfortable at their gym. Climb on!

Yelp
The new parking restrictions have definitely cut down on the pre-6:30 crowd (parking is free after 7 but people seem to be justifying, or chancing, the 6:30 parking) and no more circling the building looking for a spot. It's taken this from a 5 to a 6-star location, no doubt. still, they could take a few cues from PG-Belmont: (1) heavy bag, (2) smith press, (3) way more cardio machines people actually use*, (4) varied music** *people who climb rocks seem to like real-world exercising, so throw in some more bikes, THANK YOU for the ergs btw, and ditch some of the elliptical machines no one seems to use unless the treadmills are filled. **don't get me wrong, you guys play "cool" music, but the PG kids, which are typically a lot younger, actually rock everything from RATM, to Creedence, White Album, Stones, NWA, Petty (except "Free Fallin'" of course, that's just bad karma)

Yelp
Awesome place!! I would recommend not going for your first time during the weekend though because a lot of people like to bring their kiddos! The belaying class was a lot of fun and I appreciate that they do not let you take the test the same day to really make sure you retain the lesson. If you have never belayed or climbed before, it is a great place to learn and start! I will be coming back. Jade was my belaying instructor and she was fantastic! Very nice and helpful. She was very patient and took her time to answer questions and go over the knots properly. It looks like even if you do not have a partner, that is not a problem since they will announce over the mic to search for a partner for you. So I imagine, it is a great place to meet people but you also get in free if you just want to belay for other climbers from what I was told from one of the instructors! Can't wait to go again and attempt the certification test!

Yelp
Awesome gym - great staff, fun routes, solid yoga teachers, and sunrise views of the city and the bay through the huge windows are jaw-dropping.

Yelp
Went there for the Bloc Party event. Fairly priced like any other gym but it's pretty spacious. There's plenty of bouldering and top roping space. The gym equipment is spread throughout the gym and there's multiple levels. Parking is kind of bad so I would arrive early, otherwise you do have to pay for the spaces nearby. The staff was very friendly.
google avatar

Jonathan J.

Yelp
Went here for a beginner belay lesson, Oscar was a great instructor! Explained things in an understandable way for a first timer like myself, and didn't hesitate to go over some steps when I was confused. There are tons of climbing walls for people of all skill levels, and I had a blast! Will definitely be back again.

Yelp
I'm comparing them to PG Belmont, Mission Cliffs, Dogpatch Boulders, and PG's sister gym in Crystal City VA. Here's why they lose points: 1. The bouldering here is limited for anyone who likes to climb in the V1-V4 range. Everything is just too hard and there just aren't that many in this range. Problems don't seem very creative or fun. Everything is a top-out with no easy down-climb if top-outs freak you out. And they took out the only vertical/slab bouldering wall to create more overhang. Sucks for us mortals. This alone has got me thinking of cancelling my membership. 2. There's no secure bike parking. PG isn't as accessible as MC or Dogpatch, so getting there by bike is the best option. I'd love to see indoor or valet parking. 3. I got spoiled by the amenities of their sister gym, Earth Treks in Virginia. A few highlights: expansive bouldering area with lots of variety, huge locker room, electronic lockers, free evening parking, a foot shower(!), cleaner facility, bigger (35,000 square feet of climbing), Walltopia walls. There are a lot of positives too: nice view, tall top-rope/lead walls, cool bouldering 'elevator' to the second level, 25,000 square feet is still pretty good, nice staff.

Yelp
My BF and my sister took me here for early bday thing and I loved :D People say monkey is my spirit animal because I love climbing things and jumping over stuff - so this place was pretty much an adult playground for me - minus bars for bar work. I would consider myself an amateur/intermediate climber. Climb mostly 5.9-5.10a/b's and boulder V0-V1s. It costed us $26/person including rental for a day pass which is pretty pricey - but for the amount of route they offer, it's sort of worth the price. The place is huge. They have so many walls for you to climb with ranging levels and a little kid area with easy routes and small wall for kid bouldering. I would have liked to attempt all the route if it wasn't for my fatiguing forearms and grip. We did try bouldering after in the bouldering area for the first time and it tons of fun - most of the bouldering allows you to climb all the way to the top of the platform which I thought was pretty cool. They also have a mini second floor for more bouldering routes. Staff are also really friendly and helpful here! Other things at this facility includes: - weights - wall for grip work - adjustable angle wall for more grip work - they have metered parking behind and in front of the building. Definitely want to come back to do more climbing! FYI: If you want to climb you have to pass the belay test - if you plan to belay or you have to pay extra for them to teach you.

Yelp
Super solid bouldering section and good, friendly staff. Good route variety- Not sure what more you could ask for from a climbing gym!

Yelp
Arguably the best climbing gym in the city. Huge and semi open air, keeping the temperature much more comfortable with much more air movement than many other gyms. Also a beautiful area to walk around after climbing a bit. It can be tough to get to after work on weeknights, depending on where you're coming from as it's way off in a remote corner of the city. Quick restaurant options afterwards are also a bit limited. But plenty of quality lead, TR and bouldering routes. Does not get too crowded and also has nice fitness equipment and a good workout area.

Yelp
This is a pretty cool climbing gym! I came here with some friends who love it. The location is a bit more difficult to get to, but the views are unbeatable! It's bay-front, with a view of the Golden Gate bridge right outside. The drive up to this was neat too because it was it is along side a running/biking path. But enough about the trip to the gym, let's talk about the gym itself! They have a pretty chill belay test. The tester obviously knew that I knew how to belay. They do require that you watch a pretty long (in my opinion) video orientation about bouldering. I guess that's a liability issue...how to fall properly. They have a decent amount of wall space. It's not the highest walls, but they have some fun features, lots of overhangs, and my favorite was a stalactite on the side that you can climb over to halfway through the route and it has a top out area. Really cool feature! They also have some cool bouldering features, including an inclined roof where you can climb diagonally up for the entire length of the stairway. Lots of overhangs and a top out boulder area. I thought that the routes were pretty fair. If I lived in the area, I'd probably want to climb here!

Yelp
My favorite climbing gym in the city, it has a huge space and large selection of top rope and lead climbs as well as big bouldering section. The location of the gym is great right by crissy field which provides awesome views of the bridge and bay. Service here is always friendly. The only thing which can be tricky is finding parking if you go when it's busy. The parking is metered so keep an eye out for the time. The routes there are well set and appropriately rated. A good amount of variety in difficulty for novices and experienced climbers. They also have a full gym (weights and cardio machines) and yoga classes, I haven't taken them so I cant speak for those but they seem popular. The cost for day passes is on par with other gyms in the city and for what you get it's a pretty good deal. while it can be annoying at times to find parking at the gym, it's always my favorite gym in terms of variety of climbs on rope or bouldering.

Yelp
HECK YES. The bouldering here has got to be my favorite spot so far. You can climb to the second story of the gym. You can't beat the view here either. With the Golden Gate Bridge to the left, the ocean, Alcatraz, the Presidio and City skyline all in view. It's pretty magical climbing with the sunrise.

Yelp
Love love love this place. Nicest planet granite you will ever go to as it has a great view of crissy field and the Golden Gate Bridge. As with the others, it's a great setup for a gym as well as yoga. The power yoga class taught by Mary is phenomenal although it is not for beginners and can totally kick your butt. It's literally a workout of poses and even some reps. My abs still felt the post workout good soreness a couple days later! The staff is super chill and there's a great variety of routes for everyone. +you can rent any equipment -parking can be difficult with the touristy area -belay teaching, certification can take a little bit +great that members can bring a guest +sauna in the locker room -as any gym and rock climbing gym, there's always that weird smell and I'd personally never actually shower there Great spot for anyone who loves rock climbing!!!!

Yelp
Well, it's official... I'm never going to be a rock climber. My recent visit to Planet Granite simply confirmed this fact of life. That being said, I still totally dug this indoor exercise wonderland, even though I'm not really their target audience. My girlfriend is a hardcore climber and was the one who introduced me to their facility. When the weather is cruddy (like it is now), and she can't make it outside, Planet Granite is her happy place. You can go climbing (with rope), try bouldering (sans rope), or just use their weight room and exercise machines. There's really something for everyone here. Check-in is pretty easy, especially for beginners like me. All you have to do is walk up to their stand-up tablet at the entrance, type in your personal info, and then head over to the front desk to rent shoes and equipment (BTW, the first session is free for first-timers!). Be warned though... you'll need to take a safety/knot tie-ing class prior to your first climb. And then afterward, they'll test you on those rope tie-ing skills before you can tackle those walls. All in all, Planet Granite is a very cool exercise arena with plenty of outdoor parking. It was also nice to see kids of all ages climbing the walls. They looked like they were having a blast. Unfortunately, climbing and bouldering just isn't my thang. But at least, now I know!

Yelp
Had a corporate event here and the instructors were really great! We had a group of 11 and they split us up go make sure that we all got the attention we needed to feel safe when we got onto the walls. The place itself is huge with tons of climbs to choose from. I like how they label the ropes with the routes you will want to choose from and how they have walls that kind of arch through the gym itself. There are belt devices already attached to the ropes themselves too, which is a nice touch. Great team building event overall!

Yelp
Just from a bouldering aspect, this place is awesome! Good staff, clean bathroom and gym area, and the climbing routes are varied and great. Parking could be better if there was more closer (and free). The top rope area look amazing as well, but we had just gone to DogPatch the day before(raw hands) and since it was our first time there, decided to stick to the shorter routes. Many different areas to climb as well as a top out Boulder with an overhang. The was also a sloped area to work on overhangs where the fall was minimal. More routes and a great hangboard section upstairs. The climbing areas are surrounded by great padding - not too firm, supportive when you fall, and not a pain to walk on. I also appreciate their communication with members a they had a board with the layout of the gym notifying them of new routes. Also, they have a shop for climbing clothes, shoes, ropes, harnesses... It's an awesome gym in a phenomenal area. Climb, the walk, bike, or run the Presidio. If you climb, you have to check it out.

Yelp
I have, as of late, become a huge fan of PG because of how much better I think their gym and climbing systems are. I've been to other gyms and climbing areas and think that the Planet Granite system is just superior. They have all the same colored routes so you don't have to figure out what the tape below your foot stone is colored AND they have corresponding top ropes to each route! I didn't really know how significant this was until I tried another gym that not only had multi-colored routes but tapes indicating each route. I was totally nervous because I can never tell which one was mine. I feel like when you rock climb, it's important to trust your partner AND the equipment. If you have any doubts, you are not going to have a very good experience and you're going to be very shaky about climbing harder climbs and pushing yourself. Yes, PG is more expensive for the most part, and they're very strict on certain things but I find it to be worth while because of the experience you get here feeling safe and trusting the equipment. Oh and did I mention, PHENOMENAL VIEWS?! This place rocks!

Yelp
You get to Boulder, top rope climb, lead climb, fitness class, yoga class, work out area and a sauna and shower. Not a lot of gym can offer that much in three different locations for one price. There is a towel service as well. Great thing about planet granite are the members and staff.
