My partner and I recently stayed at Mövenpick Hotel Hobart and were extremely disappointed with the overall experience, particularly given the hotel's premium reputation and pricing.
When I handed over my car key to reception for valet parking, I expected a smooth and professional service. However, the vehicle was not parked at all and remained on the street for over an hour. This is not only unprofessional but also raises serious concerns about the security of guests' property. Later, when we requested the car to be returned, we had to wait over 40 minutes just to retrieve it. This is far from what one would expect from a premium valet service.
In addition, the front desk was severely understaffed, leading to long queues and significant delays. While the front office staff were clearly doing their best under pressure, it was obvious they were overwhelmed and not adequately supported by management.
To make matters worse, the lifts were not functioning properly throughout our stay. Every time we needed to access our floor, staff had to manually open the lifts for us. We raised this issue several times, but nothing was resolved.
Most concerning of all, we encountered an individual who appeared to be under the influence of drugs loitering on hotel floors. On multiple occasions, this individual was verbally abusive to us and to other guests, including children, creating a deeply unsafe and distressing environment. This kind of behaviour has no place in any hotel, especially one that promotes itself as a luxury destination.
Overall, this stay was far from satisfactory. The combination of poor organisation, safety issues, and a lack of basic service standards made for a disappointing and uncomfortable experience. We will not be returning, and I strongly urge hotel management to take immediate action to address these serious issues.
