5 Great Hotels Around the World for Solo Travelers - AFAR

"Part of a global, 'stylish and playful' Marriott Bonvoy brand, this property emphasizes lively public spaces as much as private rooms: check-in happens at the bar with a made-to-order complimentary beverage to encourage immediate socializing, while the traditional lobby offers movable poufs and plenty of couches. A neighboring co-working room is filled with café tables and laptops, making it friendly for remote work. Situated in the city's historic center, the hotel is easy to explore on foot or by metro. The top-floor 'Moxyfied' suite occupies the entire floor and features a near–360° wraparound private garden with Acropolis views and two large outdoor patios, creating a spacious yet cozy retreat." - Alexandra Cheney

This Athens Hotel Is Ushering in a Stay for The Modern Traveler - Hotels Above Par - Boutique Hotels & Travel

"Opened in 2022 on busy Omonia Square, this 201-room Marriott Bonvoy property occupies a former courthouse and makes a bold first impression with oversized black-and-red French bulldog statues at the entrance. The lively, muraled check-in area doubles as a bar, café and social hub, and the ground level includes a surprisingly spacious, multi-story coworking area with bright colors and laptop-friendly seating aimed at solo travelers and remote workers. Rooms are compact but contemporary and comfortable—charcoal tones, light timber accents, playful artwork and slogan decals—while also being smartly designed with motorized exterior louvers, fold-down desks, hanging pegs, under-sink storage, bedside USB ports and motion-activated LED lighting. Food and drink revolve around the multi-purpose ground floor (a light continental buffet, 24/7 grab-and-go options and elevated cocktails later in the evening); amenities include free Wi‑Fi, meeting space and a fitness center. The overall vibe is casual and cool, it’s positioned as a four-star option, rates start around $174 per night, and the airport is roughly a 40-minute drive away."

All Moxy hotels share a similar décor — colourful, vibrant, and full of energy. The rooms are decently equipped, though a few essentials were missing (like a kettle), and the bathroom door could use a better design as it didn’t close easily. That said, the service was excellent, and the staff were consistently cheerful and helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast. The hotel is located in a somewhat rough-looking neighbourhood, but it remains convenient for travellers

So easy to reach via Metro (Omonia station, stadium exit). Warm friendly welcome and then a bonus to have a birthday surprise waiting for us in the room, including ballon’s and a card! Very good breakfast with lots of local food options in addition to the standard offering. Well equipped gym and nice seating area/library room. This is one of my favourite Moxy’s in Europe by far and mostly due to the wonderful team who work here. Security outside (it’s by a main subway station), but a great base to explore Athens by food or a couple of stops from the acropolis, Syntagma and Monistitaki

Joana was a true blessing! She helped us with our birthday reservations, getting around, and guidance in various ways! Our room was decorated for our birthday! The breakfast selection was great because it had a great selection. She even got breakfast set up for us to go, since our flight was super early! Her kindness and hospitality was amazing! Also, the Plaka was within walking distance to and from our hotel

Although the hotel is in a good area to city center, I would not recommend this hotel. We had items go missing from our room while staying in the hotel. We searched every inch of the room and our belongings prior to inquiring with hotel staff. The items were absolutely with us when we checked in and placed in a secure area of our bags when we arrived. There is only one possible reason they are gone. We had a do not disturb sign on our door our entire stay so no one enter other than us. When we asked to see the room entry log it was pulled by coming to our room and removing the keyless entry panel and connecting it to a computer. A hotel front of house manager and hotel maintenance supervisor then spent 10-15 mins in the hallway reviewing in private. When they showed us the log all the times of entry were off by more than 1.5 hours from when we actually entered the room and it only showed our entry. For example, we entered our room at about 2pm that day. Realizing around 3 our items were missing. Contacted staff around 330pm. According to the log, it said we had last entered our room at 5pm. This was not possible as it was only 4:30 pm when the logs were checked. There was no explanation of why the times were not correct for our key entries. The accuracy of the data is important for many reasons. I believe there is an incredibly large gap in the integrity of security in this hotel.

Good quality hotel for a short stay in Athens. Centrally located with easy walking access to the key areas of the city center you most likely come to see. My only real critique being the rooms are a bit tight and lacking in some features, such as lighting and sitting space. Overall, would recommend for others to stay here.

We had an upgraded room, which meant we have a little more square footage, great when you have luggage. With that said, the room was clean and comfortable, plus rhe AC was very cold! The only drawback was in the shower, the actual shower head holder was loose and the water would go everywhere and hard to hold in position, certainly not a deal stopper. Great location and short walking distance to many attractions.

From previous reviews I was prepared for a very basic and minimimalist room. We were upgraded to a triple, and while there is no furniture for storage, the room was spacious and had everything we needed. The staff are so friendly and accommodating! The breakfast is amazing, better than any marriott breakfast I've had before. We are about a 10 minute walk to the very touristy area. Not alot of noise at all at night. I'm a bonvoy member, and I highly recommend this hotel for an adult getaway in Athens.

Within walking distance of the Acropolis as well as a ton of restaurants, this modern, 'green' hotel was perfect for my wife and me on our one-day layover before heading to Crete. I will say that reception is the MOST important part of any hotel as it can set the tone for the rest of your stay ... and at the Athens Moxy, Nikki, Alban and the rest of this hotel's young crew will make sure you feel right at home. Alban greeted us with a smile and the warmth of a family member. He thanked my wife for her Marriott status ... and offered us a complimentary drink at the bar. That's what I call a nice welcome to Athens! 😊 Highly recommended!
