Moxy Halifax Downtown (Halifax, Nova Scotia) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Moxy’s first Canadian outpost skips the lobby formalities: check-in happens at the bar, and your first cocktail is on the house. Upstairs, rooms are bold and efficient: walk-in showers, open closets, streaming-equipped TVs, while downstairs, the action orbits around Bar Moxy, a lounge-library hybrid that doubles as workspace, games room, and late-night social hub. There’s a DJ on weekends, small plates for sharing, and 24/7 grab-and-go for when everything else is closed. Minutes from the waterfront, nightlife, and convention center, it’s a hotel that doesn’t try to please everyone, just the ones who’ll get it." - Tablet Hotels

Loved this hotel! Stayed here 2 nights. Front desk is also a bar which was pretty cool. Order drinks as you check in! The front desk staff were wonderful and accommodating. Rooms were eclectic + fun. Spacious and clean. This bar (and all the Moxy Chains) are very social hotels with video games and board games. Great setting. It’s easy to meet people and talk to strangers and not feel like you’re in a stuffy hotel Loved my stay! Would def come back again. I just wish it was a little closer to the harbour front.

You're greeted by the friendliest staff. Upon checking in, you receive a drink chip which is good for basic alcoholic drinks, or non-alcoholic drinks, coffees, lattes, hot chocolate or cold drinks. It's a really nice perk! The rooms I found to be very comfortable, love how the beds are head to head against 1 wall with a large headboard separating them. We had 2 queen beds. Lots of places to charge your devices. There's a convenient pull out bedside table at the head of each bed to place personal items when going to sleep. The bathroom is roomy with an amazing shower! They have a DJ, and live music in the lobby at various times. The lobby is entertainment itself, from the large sized Jenga and Connect 4 as well as other games, comfortable seating, and a lively bar. The food looks good but didn't get a chance to try it ourselves. Next time! Lots of cool places for photo ops as well. I'll definitely be returning!

I just had the pleasure of staying at this amazing hotel. My room was modern, comfortable and immaculately designed. The lobby was lively and fun. The food was delicious. The location in downtown Halifax is excellent. The staff- well, that is where this hotel really shines. Every staff person I encountered- from front desk, to bar, to restaurant, to even the housekeeping, went above and beyond to make me feel welcome and appreciated as a guest. I will be back to stay again and will recommend Moxy to everyone I know!

This is a chic newer hotel in halifax. It is sort of tucked away behind a larger residential tower in front of it. You check in at the bar and get a drink token to use. Unfortunately only for house beer or cocktail, I was looking for the Sessional IPA they had on tap, but no problem. Parking not included but $30 CAD night. Room was certainly different than other hotel I stayed, but this must be Moxy setup. Hooks on the wall for your stuff, a sturdy bed, with not too many pillows. The bathroom is functional and decent shower setup. The room had a very noisy AC unit, had to use it as humid when I visited Halifax. Staff very friendly, there is food avail on site, I didn't partake though. There is plenty of lounging areas on lower floor around bar. It is sort of situated a little off from Spring Garden road area or water front, but you can walk it no problem. It was a decent stay, but next time in Halifax I won't be there, as sort of not my thing.

This is our 3rd Moxy location after Seoul and Dallas that we stayed at. Moxy Halifax didn’t disappoint at all. The location, rooms and service was outstanding. We loved the vibe and the social activities they arranged every night. The quality of food was amazing. We were there with young children and elderly parents, they all enjoyed equally. The staff was amazing and we all enjoyed chatting with them. The only issue was the garage gate for the parking. It wasn’t working most of the time and we had to call in so the staff can open the gate.

Really enjoyed our stay at Moxy Halifax Downtown. The hotel has a cool, minimalist design with a bit of a “ship interior” vibe, which felt fitting for Halifax. It’s got a trendy, energetic atmosphere, and the lobby smells fresh and gives a great first impression. We were welcomed with a drink at check-in, which was a nice touch. Our room was clean and comfortable, and while it’s not right in the center of downtown, the location still worked well for us. The staff were friendly across the board—special shoutout to the guy running the breakfast area, helped us out with our transfer out (not sure if he’s the supervisor, but he had that calm, confident energy). Would definitely recommend for solo travelers or couples. 👌🏻

I love the minimalistic design of this hotel. Super unique design. The hotel including the room was CLEAN. The room was the right size for my one night stay. I have been a Marriott Titanium elite for a couple years now, have been to Moxy hotels before but this location raises the bar for me. Breakfast in the lounge / bar style restaurant was delectable and I appreciated the gesture of a free cappuccino. I will definitely stay here again in the future.

Unfortunately, this was the most disappointing experience I have ever had at a Marriott hotel. While the hotel staff were friendly, helpful, and responsive, there were several serious issues with the hotel itself. 1. Air Conditioning: The AC in my room failed every two to three hours, likely due to system-wide overuse according to the technician. Although the maintenance team responded quickly each time, the fixes were temporary. 2. Shower drainage: The shower drain was consistently clogged. Every time I showered, it became a puddle. 3. Ventilation: There was virtually no air circulation in the bathroom. The exhaust fan wasn’t working or was extremely weak, so there was a constant damp smell. 4. Room size: If you choose one of the more affordable rooms, be aware that they are quite compact—especially the bathroom. The sink and vanity were so small that even at my height (6’1), I had difficulty washing my face comfortably. And no 6’1 is not even super tall. I want to commend the staff again for their professionalism and positive but that wasn’t enough to make up for the many issues with the facilities. I would not recommend staying here until these problems are addressed.

Yelp
For the sensual beings - come feel exhilarated and satisfied. The ambience is fresh, unique and inviting. Sitting down for a drink, one cannot help to notice a great collection of liquor displayed in the warm backdrop of amber light. The warm-hearted Crew fit right in with the hotel's welcoming spirit. And if you are hungry, be prepared to leave satisfied. I ordered Spicy Gambas. The food deserves a solid 10: the naan is thin, just soft enough, with just the right amount of garlic and a subtle sweetness. And the shrimp... firm, yet soft, the perfect bite size, is enveloped in the chili and garlic oil, yet tastes like the sea, is light, yet filling. The only negative aspect of these Gambas is that they could not last longer than they did. Kudos to the team for adding this dish on their menu and to the chef and his team for creating such a great dish. I am hooked!

Yelp
TLDR; Water pressure is good, but that's pretty much the only good thing. Rude and aggressive bartender just flat out ruined our night and the stay. We'll definitely be submitting this incident/feedback to Marriott. First off, the room; the room had this weird bleach/cleaning agent smell to it when we came in. 6 hours after we came in, opened the window and had AC on as full as we could, and the smell is still there. And they just seem to have the AC on an extreme power saver mode or something because even though we set the AC to 65 (because of the next point), the temperature refuses to go below 68. We like to sleep a bit cool, and it's laughable that thermostat itself reads 67~68 and AC doesn't run, even while having the temps set to 65. The water pressure is great though. It's better than even some Westin hotels we've been to. Now, for the main reason why all the stars are gone: My wife and I went down to grab a drink to bring up to the room. I was carrying our dog, as we had just taken him out to relieve himself before turning in for the night. When my wife approached the bar to ask about the menu, while I stood a good distance away while holding our dog in my arms. When my wife started asking, a bartender freaked out all of a sudden and immediately and loudly stated in a hostile manner that there cannot be a dog at the bar. It was communicated in such an abrupt and aggressive manner that we have never experienced before that we were taken aback. There were no signs around as to how close to the bar we could have our dog or what areas are considered food/drinks vs living area. It was not like we were trying to sit at the bar area to have a drink while having our dog, we were merely trying to see the menu and figure out how to order, WHILE I STOOD A GOOD DISTANCE AWAY. As longtime dog owners and having traveled with our dog for years, we understand very well that there are health codes and regulations that prevent a dog from being near food area. But I was standing a good 5 feet away, and there were no indications that certain areas were food areas, as the common space of where (I can only still guess to be) food area and the living area blend in. In addition to the lack of clear delineations, the aggressive and hostile attitude that the bartender had was extremely disappointing. We have been to many Moxy locations and Marriott brand hotels, as apparent in the membership status, and I am shocked to find a worker being allowed to communicate in such a manner. It is safe to say that we do not feel welcome and feel that this particular location does NOT exhibit the welcoming and friendly attitude we've encountered in all other employees at all other Moxy and Mariott locations. Next time we are in Halifax, or any location with Moxy that we haven't been to, it's safe to say that we'll be staying at other Mariott locations, or even Homewood Suites across the street. That being said, the drinks were good though. Low ball is really great.

Yelp
We stayed at the Moxy hotel for four nights and it was great! Very modern, our room layout was extremely space efficient and comfy but not as suited to "hanging out". that was fine with us as we were out and about all day exploring anyway. They do have a nice lobby & bar patio area where you could lounge and chat more comfortably. The decor was a lot of fun, and the lobby also functions as a bar and restaurant. The staff are all extremely helpful and nice. I deducted one star due to the fact that we could hear our neighbors. Given this was a hip hotel, we had young folk in the rooms next to us, who were up late chatting, when us "oldies" wanted to be asleep. I also found the sink layout to be a little bit awkward for washing your face. I'd bump into the rack above the sink and splash all over, but that's no big deal. I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to people traveling to the area
