Moxy Kyoto (Kyoto Prefecture, Japan) 1 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Moxy Kyoto Nijo, with its youthful, modern design and its playful, irreverent atmosphere, may be an unusual fit for this deeply historic city — but look closely at the thoughtfully crafted details of its artwork and interior design and you’ll find it’s as carefully tailored to its setting, in its own way, as any retro-styled ryokan. Of course, at this budget-conscious price point, it’s not pretending to offer anything like the luxe tranquility of a ryokan experience; Moxy’s guests appreciate modern touches like 50-inch televisions and a casual bar and all-day restaurant featuring occasional DJ sets." - Tablet Hotels

The hotel has a very pleasant atmosphere upon entry, with a stylish and inviting lounge area featuring games, a Nintendo console, and a bar. The spacious rooms maintain this appealing theme, incorporating modern amenities and décor. We chose a room away from the main road due to some noise. The air conditioning only cooled to 19 degrees Celsius, which was insufficient on warmer days. The gym was excellent, though the photos didn't show the punching bag and Olympic rings; it's well-suited for strength training. The laundry facilities were convenient, costing 600 yen, although our clothes were slightly damp afterward. Our only negative experience was breakfast; it was served in the same area as the entrance lobby with open seating, and the simple food selection felt somewhat basic, resembling a hostel. Overall, it's a good hotel, conveniently located opposite the train station and a 7-Eleven, and near a bus stop. I would happily stay there again.

We picked this stay for a four nights in Kyoto and couldn’t have been happier. The hotel is clean, modern, and has a very nice lobby area with bar and plenty of seats to relax in. The breakfast was sufficient. The best part were the rooms… They were very clean and modern, and best of all: the air conditioner could get the room nice and cold at night. This was the only hotel during our two week trip to Japan where we had an air conditioner that worked properly. And it made a huge difference in our satisfaction of our stay. We will definitely select this hotel for future trips to Kyoto.

Great stay overall! The hotel has an excellent location—super convenient for exploring Kyoto. Everything was very clean, which made the stay feel comfortable and fresh. The room size is surprisingly good for both the price and typical standards in Japan—definitely a nice surprise. The gym is well-equipped and a great bonus for staying active while traveling. Also loved having access to 24/7 washing machines—such a practical and underrated perk. Breakfast could be better with just a few small additions or more variety, but it didn’t take away too much from the overall experience. For the value, cleanliness, location, and amenities, Moxy Kyoto is a solid choice. I’d definitely stay again!

Absolutely the worst stay ever with Marriott. Horrible people and super UNKIND. Never received any greetings or acknowledgement during our long term stay. Lifetime members but received no upgrade whatsoever. Gave us the smallest and stinkiest room. Every time the toilet flushed the entire room was filled with sewerage smell. The sheets reeked stinky sweat and gave us skin irritations. Front desk Japanese male clerk very unprofessional and rude, acted like you were inconveniencing him. We contacted the manager but did not even received an acknowledgement. We paid our bills upfront. We are Americans. We were polite. What did we do to deserve being treated like dirt? Very unprofessional. Unkind. Most unpleasant stay and worst of Marriott. Hotel very far from major attractions. Do not recommend.

Part of our guided tour of Japan.|If looking on-line, I'd probably not choose this hotel, but having been there, it was great. Quirky boutique style, and a different ethos. Rooms initially felt that there was no storage space, but then looking around, there are loads of hooks all round the room. Very comfortable, and great bathroom facilities.|Only thing we felt could be improved is the breakfast offer, but they are very short of space, so difficult to add more options. Was certainly enough to eat, but could do with another toaster, and maybe hot egg option.|Location fine with convenience stores and restaurants readily available.|Would happily stay there again.

Chose this hotel due to its close proximity to Nijo station, it’s on-site free gym, and how clean and new it looked in pictures. The hotel is a 5 minute walk to Nijo station, which also has several convenience stores and restaurant chains within it. This was a massive plus for us, as it allowed us to grab a quick bite and hop on a train with relative ease. The hotel property also had an on-site gym that was free to use. It was open 24 hours and had great quality equipment, which allowed me to complete quick workouts. Regarding the hotel room, our room was visibly clean and new, which made my stay here super comfortable. We were also provided with beneficial in-room amenities (shaving set, toothbrush set, combs), which saved us some money. Do note that free breakfast is not provided, and that the laundry machines do cost money. Overall, the hotel was a great experience that I would surely recommend to anyone. The convenient location, along with the super clean rooms and beneficial amenities, makes me want to book here again in the future. I would also recommend this location to anyone on the fence about it.

We stayed at Moxy Kyoto Nijo during our family trip to Kyoto which included a day trip to Universal Studios Osaka with our kids (ages 7 and 11). The hotel was great value for money—compact rooms but well-equipped with all essentials and clever use of space, including plenty of hangers. It’s conveniently located near Nijo Station and within walking distance to Nijo Castle, with easy access to the Imperial Palace. There are several local restaurants nearby, and we found the breakfast and lunch options to be simple but satisfying. The lobby/reception area is stylish and cozy, with a fun vibe, and we enjoyed the complimentary bar drink coupons and occasional live music.||||One downside was a delayed luggage transfer that wasn’t communicated until we followed up ourselves, which caused some inconvenience. Also, elite Marriott members (Platinum and Titanium) might not find the usual recognition or benefits they’re used to.||||Overall, Moxy Kyoto Nijo is a lively, well-located, and budget-friendly option for families exploring Kyoto.

Great vibe to the hotel - designed around the central bar in an informal way which was quirky and had a hostel feel to it in a good way. Staff very friendly and helpful. Bar open 24/7.|Room was compact but well designed with hooks on the wall as no wardrobe which worked well. Unfortunately we had no outside view but didn’t feel claustrophobic.|Located conveniently close to Nijo station and Nijo Castle.

Yelp
Stayed here last night. Nice, clean hotel . Average hotel. Moderately priced. Do not expect any high end services. Rooms were small. Breakfast was modest Staff was friendly and very helpful Very close to Nijo station, literally 3 min walk

Yelp
Nice and clean space. Room was a little small but I'm only 1 person so it worked. Provided pajamas to use during the stay. Was super close to Nijo station so super convenient. Was a short walk to Nijo Castle as well. Staff was very friendly and spoke good English. They were very helpful with any questions I had about the area and where to find more Cherry Blossoms. The bar was a cool casual vibe. They even had an old video game system in the corner you could play. Seemed like a hip place for younger people to hang out. They did offer shipping your luggage to your next hotel as well. Next time I would do that if I planned better.

Yelp
Date of stay: 11/29 & 11/30 I only recently discovered this boutique hotel and loving it so far! I stayed in a Moxy in Osaka and decided to try another one in Kyoto as well. Great price, conveniently located near Nijo station, spacious and clean with a very cute space-maximizing interior designed room are the pluses why you should def consider Moxy for your visit in Kyoto.

Yelp
Enjoyed our stay here while in Kyoto. I've found the quality of Moxy hotels to be reliable and with their price point, I've stayed at a few of them in different countries. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful and the food options available were very good. ホテルは快適で、食事も美味しかった。

Yelp
Literal gem!! So affordable and very modern and comfortable. Very large for an Asian hotel room. 10/10 would stay at ANY Moxy hotel again. Very friendly staff and centrally located next to train station to easily get around and explore!

Yelp
What a great boutique hotel. Located just across the street from the Nijo Train Station, this hotel boasts large rooms (especially by Japanese standards), with a small refrigerator, coffee and tea bar with a hot water kettle, and laundry service. The small restaurant downstairs offers decent room service, but there are plenty of good restaurants in the area, including two ample grocery stores, all of which are within a block or two walking distance. Once you check in, you'll also receive complimentary drinks at the bar for each guest. On weekends, the small bar area has a DJ and it's a lively environment for such a little space. The location is perfect. No matter the weather, you're just a short walk across the street to the Nijo Train Station. This leaves you within minutes of Kyoto proper and a short ride from Osaka. Everything is very accessible and eliminates long commutes to get to your destination. The staff is polite and kind, and very helpful if you have questions!

Yelp
I absolutely loved this boutique hotel in Kyoto. It's a small hotel with even smaller rooms. But what they lack in space they make up in personality and service. When you enter, you're in one large space that serves as the check in, lobby, bar, and dining area all in one. Sounds cheesy but it's very well done. The spaces are all so fun and functional. The room was really small (compared to what I'm used to) but has everything you need. There's a laundry room in the basement and the bar is open 24 hours - which is simple awesome. The hotel is also very close to a train station so the location is perfect. The food which is not extensive in variety was pretty good. There's a self service part and prepared foods get served to you. Breakfast consists of a small buffet but I believe you can order items as well. Overall I enjoyed my stay here and would recommend to everyone. However if you're a large family, you may be a bit cramped.

Yelp
This Moxy had it all: great location, across the street and half a block from the Nijo train station; comfortable rooms which are small by US standards but spacious by Japan's; laundry; and dining/coffee/cocktail space. We started our Japan trip in Kyoto and this was our first multi-night location. The design was charming. The staff was helpful, friendly and as cool as the location. The dining was open late and the front desk staff were also your barista or bartender depending on time of day. The common areas were very cool and I loved that I could borrow an umbrella from the hotel rather than have to purchase on a rainy day. Oh and because it was rainy, we were impressed that our room HVAC had a "dry" mode. The bathroom was a good size and had a fancy Japanese toilet (with English instructions). Would definitely recommend!

Yelp
The decision to stay at the Moxy Kyoto Nijo was a last minute one. We had booked an alternate hotel but decided to utilize my Marriott Gold Status at the Moxy. Using points, I offset the price of our 2-night stay. I also let them know we were celebrating a birthday and anniversary which they surprised us with a hand written greeting on the room's mirror. They also gave us an extra round of "welcome drinks" at the bar aka hotel desk. The hotel is located near the JR Nijo Station down the street from Nijo Castle. We had transferred from Kyoto Station via the Shinkansen from Tokyo. The hotel is rather new and very hipster. The check in desk and bar is open 24 hours. It's a cute boutique hotel with loads of amenities. Our view wasn't the greatest but we had a lovely rain shower, Toto automatic toilet/bidet, comfy Queen sized bed, small fridge, free water upon request, clean pajamas, and lots of electrical outlets. They also had a laundry center that we didn't use. Let me just say, the welcome cocktails are kind of small so order the beer or wine instead to get a decent pour. We didn't have complimentary breakfast at this hotel so we opted to go out into the city for our meals and snacks. However, they did let us use the espresso machine which put out a fairly good cup of coffee or cappuccino depending on your desire. As we were close the Nijo Castle, we walked visited the castle. The hotel is close to the train that takes you to the bamboo forest as well. Just down the street is a shopping street and local supermarket where you can pick up fresh fruit. Since we were centrally located in Kyoto, we made a quick trip over to Osaka on our first evening there. Just know that the trains stop after a certain hour so don't stay out too late in a different city without a way to get back. We were lucky in that we made our way back on one of the last trains out of Osaka back. While there, we also visited Nishiki which was a good ways away so take the subway or bus because our walk back in the afternoon was long and a bit exhausting. Check out was also smooth. The staff we encountered were great. We had a good stay at the Moxy and definitely would stay again.

Yelp
Great property right off the train line. Super friendly staff made check-in easy. Lots of cool decor in the lobby and elsewhere. Rooms were very nice with free water (always a plus), good space, small fridge, and coffee bar. I loved the shower pressure and heat. Great option if the location meets your needs.

Yelp
Moxy is Marriott's newest " economy lifestyle brand " . The lobby was chic and modern and felt airy . There was a fun full-size bar , where complimentary cocktails were served . They had a coffee bar and a small area to purchase snacks. The staff were helpful and friendly , answering all questions we had . The hotel was a very short walk from the train station . The rooms weren't large , but that seems like the theme for many Japanese hotels . What they were was super cool ! They are sleek , modern and clean ! I would book the Moxy again and again

Yelp
Great hotel located close to multiple train stations, the bus, a mall and a lot of local eats and necessities. Close train ride to the Bamboo Forrest and other highly visited shrines. This hotel has a lot of amenities in the room, as well as games and other things to do. We also received complimentary drink tickets. Once of the best experiences I've had in a hotel so far. Would highly recommend. There was also free coffee which is

Yelp
I loved staying here for two nights. It is very similar to all the other Moxy's. The best part about this hotel was the location. There is a train station super close by. Also, the bar is open 24 hours which is a bonus.

Yelp
If you are traveling to Kyoto, this hotel is by far the best place to stay! The Staff, support, food, drinks and service are immaculate! The rooms are NYC size but the inviting lobby/bar area and staff make up for that 100%. I adore the whole staff! LOVE! They have laundry and an amazing gym as well! Amazing housekeeping too! I forgot to mention, our children stayed in a different room on the same floor, and were treated with such care and kindness! They are well behaved but def escaped to the ice cream fridge and lobby without judgement and worry on my part to which I'm so thankful, grateful, and blessed! Thanks Moxy! 10/10
