I wanted to like this hotel as it was very convenient (actually adjacent) to my terminal and had a cool vibe. The Moxy is a Marriott property, and targets a more Millennial crowd. There is no front desk, the large bar area in the lobby doubles as a front desk. The bar area and convenience foods are open 24/7, and the staff is very friendly and helpful.
So we were off to a great start when we checked in. Unfortunately things went downhill fast when we entered our room. It felt like it was well over 80 degrees. So we turned on the AC - but that didn't work. Next we tried the fan setting, but that didn't work either. Lastly we tried the heat to see if the system was operating, and the heat did work, but we certainly didn't need it to be hotter!
I called the front desk, and they said the AC was turned off for the season, and to open the window. It was a little cooler outside, but the window didn't open much, and we were directly next to the runway. So it was really noisy with the planes taking off (fun to watch but not to hear). The front desk politely provided us with a different room, which was marginally better, as it was adjacent to the traffic circle next to the terminal. Of course that meant constant traffic and buses, an incremental improvement over jets but still loud, noisy and noxious.
We spent a warm and uncomfortable night at the Moxy, and would never stay here again. We would also be unlikely to stay at another Moxy. Moxy's rooms are spartan, providing just the basics needed. I have no issue with that in exchange for a quick walk to my plane in the morning. However, climate control is a must, and regardless of AC regulations, the Moxy needs an answer to providing basic guest comfort. Perhaps they can start with a working HVAC fan and add some extra portable fans for the rooms?! Regardless, I think Moxy's try to cut too many cost corners, and the result is inconsistency.
