Osaka Is a Food-Obsessed City Unlike Anywhere Else in Japan

What a marvellous place. From the moment I walked in I felt comfortable and relaxed by the surroundings. It was a casual looking place with awesome staff. I was checked in by Aaron who was fantastic and helpful. Aaron went out of his way to help with my transfer to the airport after a mix up as we were a party of four with eight pieces of luggage plus our carry-on bags. Thank you Aaron. Without your help the ending of my stay in Japan would have be a disaster. I cannot thank you enough. I am already making plans to visit Japan same time next year and will be staying at the Moxy while in Osaka.

Hotel Moxy was very well located close by public transportation, shopping, and miscellaneous restaurants. The rooms were a bit small but that is quite common in Japan. Very comfortable and clean. We chose not to eat breakfast there but we did have burgers for dinner one evening and they were very good. Gary and Monica at the front desk were both very friendly, helpful, and professional. I would happily stay there again. Thank you!

We stayed at the Moxy for two weeks due to a combination of work and vacation time in Osaka. The hotel is in an excellent location between two subway stations, which makes it easy to get to most parts of the city. If you plan to go to the Expo, it is right on the subway line that takes you to the stop at the entrance. There are dozens of small restaurants, including traditional Japanese cuisine, Italian food, Indian food, a brew pub, and several cafes. They have washers and dryers on-site, and there is a laundromat around the corner. The staff are very helpful and friendly. They serve breakfast, an all day menu of tacos, burgers, and light bites, and have a full bar. The rooms are a bit small, but the bed is very comfortable, and the shower is roomy. Good water pressure and lots of hot water. We would highly recommend the Moxy!

I booked a Moxy Sleeper room as a gold member. No upgrade but at least they provided a complimentary drink at the bar. ||My hopes for the room were that it would be better than a business hotel but likely not at the level of a proper Westin/Marriott and I think that this hotel hit that level quite well. I noticed that this hotel also has “Secret Base” rooms with no view at all, Honestly, the window in my “Sleeper” room served little purpose anyway. This truly is a room that serves largely as your base for 1 or 2 people when out sightseeing or perhaps hanging out at the bar in the lobby.||The hotel is located a couple blocks north of Sakaisuji-Honmachi station. This is honestly a great location for those doing sightseeing in the happening Namba, Dotombori, and Shinsaibashi areas. ||The hotel has coin-operated laundry machines on the 2nd floor but you can actually pay the washing machines by card if you use an app you can get off a QR code on the actual machines. The washing machines are sufficient however the dryers are typical Japanese business hotel dryers that aren’t quite up to anything beyond very small loads. You’re better served just hanging your clothes in your room. ||I honestly had a nice stay and I think the hotel nails the brand intent of a lifestyle brand appealing to young, active adults. If budget is a concern I do think that the marginal price increase is worth the upgrade over the more affordable, local business hotels.

We were pretty disappointed with this hotel. As someone who works in the hotel industry and stayed in 6 different hotels during my time in Japan this was on the bottom of the list for my friends and I. Service was subpar - a bunch of young girls that just seemed like they wanted to be anywhere else. I am almost positive we were charged more for an extra person even thought I had prepaid for 3 guests and the extra bed already months before the arrival. Gave slight attitude with simple requests for towels, drinks, or info on laundry. Rooms were alright, bathroom could definitely use more shelves and counter space. This hotel also definitely seemed less clean that the rest of the hotels we stayed during out time there. Rooms were pretty hot as well, and bathroom door was hard to keep closed. I will say, the massage chair in the waiting area for laundry was very nice and much needed after all of the walking we did. This was one of our more expensive hotels that we stayed in this trip and didn't feel it was worth the money at all. Stay at the Hyatt or OMO'S!

Google
Our absolutely new favourite location. We much prefer this location compared to the Umeda given the subway is 6min walk to the Brown or Green line. There are also good eats around, and great for people who’ve already been to Japan and just want to avoid all that noise when too close to tourist areas. Will be coming again, and high recommend it. It’s clean, laundry coin operated on site, rooms are spacious. We were able to open our 2 luggages and still had space to walk around. (Queen bed booking) Comfortable bed and pillows. You get what you picked on the Bonvoy booking site. If you’re a gold member of Marriott. Don’t bother asking for upgrade / availability. They outlined in printing at front desk they will honor the 2pm check out etc.

The staff are very caring and supportive. While it's not the typical "Japanese-style" formality, it's a warm and friendly place with a relaxing atmosphere. It's LGBT-friendly and also convenient for families with strollers—there are no stairs in the rooms or lobby. I would definitely stay here again when visiting Osaka.

The lobby is super cute, I love the quotes everywhere, nice rooms and friendly staff. They helped me a lot with finding somewhere to do my nails! Highly recommended!! Their food is also super good and I like that they include American food. I recommend their Raspberry Chocolate coffee, it was quite impressive.

Yelp
Stayed for 4 nights in Dec. 2024, and it was great. First visit ever to Japan for us. The hotel is about 10 mins walk from train station, easy walk, safe at night and plenty of lights around. Easy check in, we used Marriott Bonvoy points and it was worth it. Room was well laid out, furniture folds up and hanged when not in use. No microwave in room, but there is one by the bar area. We loved everything in the room, comfy bed, ac easy to adjust, bathroom was great, the water pressure in shower was nice after a long walking day. Staff was friendly during breakfast, plenty of options. As a bonvoy member, we had the option for breakfast as our welcome gift and it was worth it. They have 2 washers and dryers, but dryers does not dry good, we didn't fill it too much but still had to run 2 cycles and it was still a little damp after so we just air dried in room. Plenty of convenience stores around, restaurants walking distance as well. Highly recommend staying here. We plan on coming back here in the future.

Yelp
Whenever I'm in Asia, I try to make side trips to get myself out of the work mode. I went to Osaka one weekend in early December. It was my second trip to Osaka and I wanted to stay in the city center so that I could go to Kyoto for the day. Moxy has a great breakfast joint. It served Japanese and American food. The welcome drink is a nice surprise with sake. My best find is the izakaya restaurant that is literately 10 steps away from the hotel front door. Not on Yelp but it is almost adjacent and you can't miss it as it's right next to the hotel. I got the best sashimi and sake one can hope for. The room is spacious for Japan and very tidy. I couldn't asked for a better design. The downside is that it didn't have coffee maker, so I just drank as much as I could when I was at breakfast. Subway is very confusing but there is a subway that takes you to Kyoto that is 600 meters away. On a Saturday night they had a nice Christmas band and they were out there singing and dancing. I went to the lobby for a drink and got to catch the holiday vibe. I would absolutely recommend this to a single traveler. I would not go with a family. It's too petite for the family ( I last stayed at the St. Regis in Osaka with the family), but great for a single person.

Yelp
After staying at a mediocre Airbnb for four nights, my bf and I decided to cancel our reservations and use his corporate discount for a hotel instead. We decided on the Moxy and was very happy with our choice. There is a walking distance of around 30 minutes to get to Dotonbori and Shinsaibashi. It's actually quite the workout. In general, the hotel is an affordable sister branch of the Marriott. It kind of reminds me of the W with its smart and stylish designs and decors. Even though it's not huge, the room was no doubt comfortable, clean, and perfect for two. It had everything we needed for a two-night stay. The lobby is modern with an industrial vibe. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to take pictures because Chinese tourists were parked everywhere making it hard for me to maneuver from the check-in counter to the elevator. Overall, I highly recommend the Moxy if there's one in the city you're visiting. However, for Osaka specifically, I thought the Moxy was a little out of the way for all the tourist attractions.

Yelp
I want to disclose that I am a Marriott member and stay at Marriott hotels for all my travels. This is my first time staying at a Moxy hotel. Unlike my previous experience, there is no concierge service, bell boys, executive lounge or room upgrade at this hotel. Location: The hotel is a 5 to 7 minute walk from the train station (Sakai-suji Hommachi station). However, it is not centrally located. It is about a 20 minute train ride to dontabori and Osaka station. Area: the area is busy with people going to work in the morning but very quiet at night. Lobby: the lobby is very nice. It feels like a bar than a regular Marriott hotel with the music and bottles. I was there during the World Cup. During the night when Japan was playing, the hotel played the game on a projector and the lobby was packed with hotel guests watching. It felt very communal. Check in: you checkin in at the bar. they give you a free drink ticket upon checkin. I tried the moxy cocktail, it was above average. Room: The rooms are smaller than your typical Marriott hotels. There is no windows in the room and you are surrounded by grey doors. There was barely room to sit or walk once you put your luggage. Overall: I think it is a great hotel for the budget American travel. However, if you want the marriott experience, then this hotel might not be for you. You do not get free breakfast for being an elite member. Also, if you want something closer to Osaka, I would pick a different hotel.

Yelp
One of my favorite Marriott experiences was at this hotel! They are so nice here and I love the decorations. I loved the small rooms that were very thoughtfully designed. The vibe here is modern and young, full of energy, ready for a good time. The breakfast is amazing! It is the perfect amount to start off your day in Osaka. The hotel is located close to Shinsaibashi. Probably a 15-20 minute walk. Or you can take the subway but it provably takes you around the same amount of time. It's so safe around the area. Even at night. I really loved staying here. The staff is also amazing. We came when it was only 10 months now since it's opening. I was there during New Year's Eve. They had a DJ and drinks and small food items. The hotel puts on social events in the lobby. It seems like a nice idea but also not something I would probably partake in. But it is not that it is available.

Yelp
First time staying at a Moxy, stayed on points and luckily got upgraded to a larger room. Room size was fairly standard compared to our previous hotels in other cities around the same price. Buffet breakfast looked mediocre and was a bit pricey so we skipped it. It's in what seems to be a business type district so not much in the way of places for dinner nearby. It's also not close to a train station which isn't too bad of an issue but did add 7-10 minutes of walking to all our activities. Likely would stay at a hotel closer to a train station next time, but it was fine.

Yelp
I knew it'd be a "minimalist" hotel, so it worked for me, but Hubby didn't enjoy his stay as much. He was hoping for more of a traditional type. By minimalist, I meant no closet, no fridge, with the table and chair hanging on the wall. Decor is hip, simple in black and pink. Room is small, but that is standard. Staff is on the younger side with a casual vibe which could be misconstrued as unprofessional. The bar double duties as check in/check out, so beware if you are in a hurry. The lobby is spacious and welcoming. Many guests just hung out there for an extended period of time. There is coin-operated laundry facility. Detergent is included. On Friday night, there was even a DJ spinning in the lobby. One downside is that the hotel is not located close to a main train station, but it's not far away from a sub station. There is a 7 Eleven (or was it Lawson?) across the street. Many eateries are near the hotel. I would stay at Moxy again. In fact, I'll try the New York one very soon.

Yelp
My partner and I stayed at the Osaka Moxy for three nights, and overall, I thought the price was extremely reasonable and it's definitely a hip, different kind of hotel. We have never stayed at this brand, though, I know they exist around the world. It's basically trying to be like a W with the vague club atmosphere in the common area, except more hipster with random decor like cat pillows and Jenga sets to play. We told the hotel that it was our honeymoon, and they sent up a split of rose champagne for us to enjoy, a nice touch. The staff was always friendly and engaged. The room was relatively bare bones, but I think that's what they are selling at this price point. There is no closet, but there are plenty of hooks and hangers if you need them. I didn't really find it a nuisance, but that is something to be aware of. Especially considering this is Japan and space is always at a premium in the big cities, I did not feel claustrophobic. The bathroom was large, and the shower was very nice - a rainfall shower. There was even enough room to sit down. Breakfast was included in our room, and you eat it in the lobby area. There was a good amount of food, and they have Ramen in udon made to order. Just like you would have an omelette station in a Western hotel. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here. The location is quite convenient to a lot of the lines in Osaka, Bill this is the business district so it is kind of dead during the evenings. But that's not the worst thing.

Yelp
Cool vibe, good location, very minimalistic. Typically we stay at Marriott properties (love the points) - this is our first time staying at a Moxy. The space is cool, you feel very hip but there is not much to it in terms of elegance. The rooms in my opinion were very good size and the bed was comfortable. Great shower with two different types of shower options (rain shower head or handheld). There was a gym opening party the day we arrived making the lobby very very crowded - you could not get a seat to sit and have a drink in the lobby - I would assume this is not typically the case. The bar and lobby area are open 24 hours a day, which was wonderful when at 3:00 am I was wide awake and ready to start my day. Try the Green Tea Chocolate Latte it did not disappoint. This hotel was a great option for us because within a mile both ways there were things to do - a mile walk to Dotonburi and a mile walk in the opposite direction to the Osaka Castle.

Yelp
it was a surprise the host is high quality with an economic prince at Christmas season. it is also in the Marriott chain with the quality assurance. Breakfast included for gold members. great location close to Osaka castle.

Yelp
What a great hotel and staff. The hotel is located in a 7 minute walk to the subway and it's located by plenty of authentic/locally owned restaurants. The hotel rooms were clean and spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The staff was so nice and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place!

Yelp
One of the worst experiences I have had. Specifically this location only. I did my laundry in the hotel laundry room here and noticed that someone had stolen some of my clothes. The hotel said they checked the machine to see if any was stuck in the machine then did absolutely nothing else. They said "sorry, nothing we can do."

Gina E.

Yelp
Not as good as the Moxy Tokyo. Not as friendly and not as well run. Breakfast buffet was mediocre. Things ran out and weren't replaced. Housekeeping is non-existent. We never had our room refreshed and had to call to ask for fresh towels. We came back to our room at 5pm on a Saturday looking forward to a quick shower before going back out (it's really hot outside) and housekeeping never came. We called and were told they were gone for the day. We are Titanium Elite Marriott members and expected more than this. On a good note the location of the hotel is nice and we had a very pleasant stay at the Moxy in Tokyo.

Yelp
Weird vibe - felt new with service kinks. Room was clean and smelled fresh and new. Lots of hooks to hang things which was convenient. Random stool in bathroom I kept stubbing my toes on because it didn't fit under the sink. Drink vouchers were not logical -- couldn't redeem for house wine (lesser value than the draft beer and house cocktail they offered). Bartender put a bandaid on his finger in front of us at the bar before making our drinks which felt quite unsanitary. Staff seemed a bit inexperienced / not used to providing service at the Marriott level, though I suppose this is a budget Marriott brand. Lobby was very loud and echoey. Not a lot of sound dampening materials in rooms or common spaces. There were some toys in the lobby that kids were loudly playing with over breakfast (an alligator that makes a loud winding up and clapping sound, etc). Breakfast was fine (extra charge); served on metal trays/cups/plates that felt cheap. Overall fine for a budget property, but my expectations were too high given the Marriott association.
