Never deny yourself the experience of a good home cooked meal, especially from a place like Mr & Mrs G's. What else can I say except it's truly food for the southern soul.

Best place in town for soul food! Highly rated by local and national press. San Antonio Express news, USA Today and myself love this place for its congenial owner Mr. G. and his great home style cooking served up buffet style... His chicken, available baked broiled or fried is to die for!

Just forget what you're planning for lunch and get over here. I randomly passed this place while running errands on a very hungry stomach and, let me tell you, this is a hit! The fried chicken wowed me from the very first bite, the cornbread is good, the rice woth gravy was fantastic, and the Mac and cheese was everything I expected. I tore into my delicious meal too quickly to stop and take a decent photo! They make their own vinegar hot sauce from peppers that Mr. G pickled before he passed and it's wonderful! I will absolutely be back here and will he bringing folks with me. Well done, y'all!

I suppose one should not expect the food to be warm twenty minutes before closing on a Friday evening. Nevertheless, the food tasted good. My husband loved the meatloaf and gumbo.

Stopped for lunch at about 11:30, so early. The 1 meat plate was over $11. So already a bit over priced. I had white meat fried chicken, because there were no smoked BBQ ribs... despite the sign saying so. I had greens, green beans, sweet potatoes and corn bread. The corn bread was dry, room temperature and tasteless. The side were hot and very good portions for the price. The breast, and wing were well cooked, nearly dry and lukewarm despite the heat lamp and steam tray. I saw something very disturbing while there. A party infront of me got out of line and he asked for the trash can to throw away the plastic cutlery. The cashier took it from them and PLACED it back in general containers for everyone else. This is a risk to public health

Greens, cabbage and yams are so yummy. The place is old and does have an old smell to it like other reviews mention but it's one of the best places I know for soul food.

Now this is some amazing soul food hidden in the middle of San Antonio! Smothered steak, phenomenal fried chicken, turkey and dressing, green beans, mashed taters, and the greens? *drool* Get there before they run out! (Seriously. They run out.)

Still, the best Soul Food in San Antonio. Smothered pork chops, fried chicken, smothered chicken, etc.,etc. They have it all and kool aid to boot. Prices have rinsen a little over the years but still worth it.

Great food. Great customer service. Sorry to hear that they are closing at the end of July.
