The hostel is located on a side street off a busy road in the Bole Road area of Addis. It’s well placed for bars and restaurants and the airport. We arrived from a 7am arriving flight and waited for around 45 minutes for our room to be cleaned. We were eventually shown to a room in an annex at the back of the main building. It was quite small, well worn but seemed clean. The bathroom was basic but had a shower with decent flow and generally good supply of warm water. The bed was comfy and we slept ok though our ear plugs came in handy as there was occasional noise of donkeys braying, dogs barking and our neighbours talking.||Breakfast was included and was cold buffet style served in the communal kitchen. Staff were friendly and helpful and spoke ok English. There’s a nice garden area to hang out and chat with other travellers.||The location is good- we walked to and from nearby bars and restaurants at night and felt safe enough though watch out for light fingered street kids! I would say it’s definitely better to stay in this area than near Piazza which had limited non local restaurants. ||We paid around £20 per night for the room which I felt was a fair price, so much so that we returned on the night before we flew home from Ethiopia. On that occasion we had a flight in the early hours of the morning and Dawit the manager helpfully allowed us to keep the room late for a half day rate.

Mr Martin's Cozy Place is the place to stay for anyone looking to link with like-minded solo travellers. The friendly lounge was a great place to get a few tips from other travellers and expats when I arrived in Ethiopia, then exchange stories on my last couple of days in the country. The rooms are clean with reliable hot showers. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Great value also. Loved it!

I spent 18 days in Ethiopia. I started with 8 nights around the north (two nights in Gheralta, one night in Axum, one night in Lalibela, three nights in Simien mountains area), and then 10 nights in Addis. I spent 5 of those nights at Mr. Martins Cozy Place.||There are two groups of lodging options in Addis for foreigners: (1) the $200/night hotels like the Hilton or Raddison Blu and (2) the $50/night "guest house." There is a third category, which is Mr. Martins Cozy Place. This is the only type of lodging option in Addis that is less expensive and also warm kind. I think it is because the family who runs this place, the manager David Salsawi and his wife Mahi, are absolutely lovely people and know what they are doing. Side note: they are young and hip and if you want to learn how modern Ethiopians live, think, eat, drink, laugh, and spend their time, then these guys will offer this to you with open arms. Just ask :)||As a solo traveler in his late 20s, I was very pleased with this place because I could be low key if I want, but also socialize and find community if I wanted. I opted for the single private room and the shared bathroom, which was clean, quiet, and no-frills, and was all that I needed. The ambiance of this place is pleasant as it is essentially in its own small compound (hammock, outdoor seating, nicely lighted at night, roof terrace). Breakfast was simple but solid, all you need before going out for a day. The location cannot be beaten.

Short version: clean, comfortable hostel in great location with lovely staff. Your only best option for the price and services in Addis! ||||I stayed at Martin’s Cozy for 5 weeks while on a business trip. I had one of their brightest and largest room with its own balcony and bathroom. However, there is a rooftop, garden and dining room to work or hangout and meet travelers just passing by Addis. Could be occasionally noisy so have your earplugs.||||The staff is absolutely incredible and were always available to help, even midnight when I got sick. Everything was just easy and flexible without any hassle or miscommunications: could extend twice, could do the payments in any method and currency I could (this is often an issue in Addis). ||||The place is as a hostel should be - basic, clean, including laundry service, a basic breakfast with great coffee and great staff. ||||Definitely value for your money!

The hotel is in a very good location, clean and has the best staff ever. Water, electricity and wifi worked most of the time. Stayed there for 2.5 months and loved it. There are backpackers staying short term and some people staying longer. A very nice mix and indeed very cozy because local friends and family visit the hostel too. :)

A nice and cozy hostel not far from the airport. There is a nice garden with benches and a common area in the big house where are mosts of the rooms. There are also separate rooms that have their own bathrooms. Simple breakfast is included in the price, there is no restaurant on the premise but there are many restaurants and shops t a few minutes from the hostel. Wi-fi is quite fast for Ethiopian standards.

I firstly want to say that I found the staff here to be really sweet and helpful. Which is why I so much wanted to write a good review and support the hostel. But unfortunately I had a tremendously uncomfortable stay. ||||Firstly, I left completely covered in bed bug bites. Which was not only uncomfortable but stressful as well. Bed bugs are very easy to carry from one place to the next, so wrapping the clothes that made contact with my bed in plastic bags was not what I had planned upon my departure. Secondly due to the location of my room from the reception, I was not at all able to access wifi unless I walked to the front. My room was also directly next to an outdoor toilet which was quite a stomach turning experience. The room's bathroom window that remains open seems to be a loud speaker for the on goings in the toilet next door. I actually went into my bathroom my first night to make sure that there wasn't a hidden door I somehow missed, and that someone wasn't using my toilet. It was that loud and clear. And lastly, there was staff walking constantly outside of my window throughout the evening which made it difficult to relax.||||The upkeep is clearly lacking. The outlet next to the bed was also completely hanging out of the wall and the lamp didn't work. Considering all of the rave reviews, I was really surprised by how shabby my room actually was.||||Again, the staff was lovely, but I would not return to Mr. Martin's nor would I recommend it. I understand, as I experienced myself, that this is a great place to meet fellow travelers. But I don't think that constitutes such an uncomfortable experience.

The best place to stay in Addis for such a reasonable price. If you’re a solo traveller or couple there are lots of people around to chat with foreigners and locals too. The place it’s self is clean spacious and the staff are super friendly willing to help with everything you may need. The best part is the cozy garden out front where most people gather in the evening with a few beers. This is one of the main area close to the airport with restaurants & bars everywhere.
