Google
Nuri was super friendly, and the whole team provided excellent service. Really tasty food! Loved how they brought out meals a few at a time, and was never waiting too long for the next item too. Easy to book online, wrote a special comment which the team took notice to which made the experience extra special.

Google
The most delicious food. We did the ‘feed me’ option and it did not disappoint. They were able to cater to different dietary requirements, and moved us out the back for dessert so we didn’t have to rush. Their espresso martini was one of the best I’ve never had.

Google
Buzzing and loud noises lol food was what you would expected from an Japanese establishment like this 😜 I rate it a must try… I enjoyed the degustation except for the meat dish. Overall awesome place to dine!

Google
I thoroughly enjoyed the Japanese fusion dishes. My favorite was the hand roll tuna sushi—great flavors and a fantastic texture on the tuna. The pork belly was another standout, perfectly seasoned and an excellent pairing with rice.

Google
Exceptional restaurant all round. Great for a nice occasion! While not the cheapest place, it's well worth the cost. The food is all fresh and delicious, expertly prepared and presented. The cocktail menu is diverse with every option a winner. The staff are all lovely, bubbly and ready to help which is always appreciated. A restaurant not to miss!

We had my husband's surprise 40th birthday at Mr Miyagi's - Level One event space. The whole experience was absolutely fantastic. Not only was it incredibly easy to get information from Brett and the team at Mr Miyagi about the packages available(from Perth none the less), they were all so accomodating and helpful in the lead up; eager to assist to make it a great surprise event. On the night, the staff were absolutely brilliant; friendly, attentive and bonus points - some actual personality and ability to banter with guests which always makes for a great atmosphere. Finally, the food. RIDICULOUSLY DELICIOUS! I could just live off the food for the rest of my days. TRULY! I cannot fault the service we got. All our guests raved about it as well. I am so grateful to everyone at Mr Miyagi for making it such a wonderful celebration for my husband's milestone birthday. Do yourself a favour and get yourself to this little gem on Chapel Street, I know we certainly will next time we are in Melbourne. Cheers, Dilhari

Google
The Japanese fusion dishes are very good. The tacos and braised beef are excellent, but the eggplant is way too salty. But overall, it's still a restaurant worth visiting.

Google
Really great dining experience. Fun atmosphere - great crew, friendly, fun, and really good food. Look forward to recommending this place to friends.

Yelp
Delicious and creative menu. We loved the funky atmosphere of this restaurant and all of the menu items we tried, especially the broccoli tempura. The most unique restaurant in Melbourne!

Jayne C.

Yelp
Food and drinks were great ! Service was very fast and people were so nice. Had dinner here our last dinner in Melbourne and they made it special ! Their bao bun was our favorite thing .

Allison T.

Yelp
Cool vibe. The tacos are delicious. The drinks are so beautiful. Lots of attention to detail here.

Yelp
Yum. Mr Miyagi certainly lived up to its reputation. I love Asia fusion and certainly wasn't let down. We went here for lunch and I had seen and heard about the food from yelp and friends that have been here. We decided to go with the "feed me" option where the bring out a set menu and a tapas style. The dishes were all amazing. My favorite being the taco as it was amazing. The tempura nori taco shell was light and crispy and filled with rice, salmon, chilli oil, kewpie and topped Napa cabbage and spring onion. It's to die for. A favorite of all our group. The following dishes were all good also from the salmon tartare to the brisket roll. Also the MFC miyagi fried chicken was good coupled with mayo dipping sauce satisfied the bogan in me. The feed me selection was enough to fill me up and feel satisfied with out being too much so that I felt over full and heavy all day. There was other dishes on the menu I will certainly go back to try as they all looked and sounded good. The service was great and very attentive and friendly. The food came out fairly quickly so as not to be waiting too long for the next dish. I highly recommend mr miyagi and am eager to return myself.

Yelp
Little gem in Windsor! Researched before my partner & I ate there as I heard it gets really busy. I understand how people are underwhelmed with their service but it can't be helped if they're so busy it just means their that good! As long as the food quality doesn't go down I'm content. I love the modern asian menu & the vibe & atmosphere that Mr. Miyagi provides. Its a place I see myself going to for enjoyable food & drinks with friends after work.

Yelp
I adore Mr M's! The menu is kitschy, trendy and an upmarket take on some pretty good food. My latest visit (Saturday night) was with a group of friends for a birthday dinner and was possibly one of my favourite meals I've ever had at Mr Miyagi. We had: - edamame (duh!) - Miyagi fried chicken (a favourite of mine) - spider crab banh mi - wagyu beef tataki - prawn dawgs - Jimmy crack corn - Korean BBQ ribs - nigiri and sashimi mix The spider crab was PERFECT! I want to come back tonight just to eat loads of MFC, spider crab banh mi and prawn dawgs! The cocktails here have always been scrumptious but the frozen rosé (frosé) is to-die-for and hard to stop at one (or two!) The Domaine Chandon Pinot Noir Rosé that is used is the perfect base with it's strawberries and cream notes. The only downside is the waiting time and service can be a little slow, but if you don't mind waiting then the food definitely makes up for it tenfold!

Yelp
This place was highly recommended by friends for their fried chicken in Melbourne while we were in town from the US. As we were en route to the restaurant they refused the request of friends standing and waiting. Due to having 7 people they refused our business and were rude. Even when it was requested to split the group up just to experience their food, they literally said NO. It's quite a contradiction when you have empty communal tables for people to commune yet refuse people who actually want to commune and enjoy your food. What is the purpose of having a place to serve food if you don't actually want them to come with others to enjoy it together. Thanks for being inhospitable before we actually even arrived, for reminding us how rude people can be... but also for reminding us to be grateful for the really nice people who welcome locals and travelers to enjoy their meals in their restaurants. We have been to 10+ restaurants since arriving in Melbourne and every single one has won us with their incredible hospitality and good food, we just said how much we love Melbourne because of all the really nice people everywhere... apparently this person/restaurant didn't get the Melbourne Memo for being kind.

Paul S.

Yelp
Trendy and chic, very hipster. The menu is pretty much bar food, good twist on classics... flavor profile could be a bit bolder for my palette. It's a shame they don't serve the entire menu in the bar area, it's the best part of the entire Mr Miyagi experience. Service was a bit off when I visited, perhaps teething issues.

Alicia N.

Yelp
Tia went above and beyond for us, her service was amazing and she demonstrated that she genuinely cared for our needs. Provided us with complimentary champagne and a lovely hand written card congratulating us for graduating uni! Definitely a lovely experience Cocktails are really yummy And food is good too from the banquet menu It is enough to be satisfied and it came out quick - maybe too quick but the staff are always available to help with anything

Steven V.

Yelp
Had an awesome meal here. Very relaxed vibe inside (although apparently it gets real busy later at night). I had the soft shell crab taco, some fried chicken, and a few glasses of wine - loved it all. Staff were real friendly too. I'd definitely return here to try other things.

Loren D.

Yelp
Loved the vibe and setup of this place. The nori taco lived up to my high expectations (a MUST try) and the salted watermelon martini was dangerously good.

Christian L.

Yelp
Food was fine, but it doesn't make up for the racist menu quotes that are 30 years behind their time. Shame on you Mr Miyagi, this is indefensible and above all not necessary. Problem number two! Literally all the front of house are female and back of house were guys. Its the kind of gender division that helps harbor all the problematic behavior that has come to light in recent years in kitchen culture. I don't know management there personally but if it were a white bro who read David Chang's cook book once, I'd get it completely. Thats the vibe I get. Super lame white-bro perverts. Also I told them I was fine and they got me another beer. Which is lame.

Feren Y.

Yelp
It's not everyday you get to have dinner with movie starts and robot heros. The decoration is fantastic and very creative, I sat by the bar in front of Godzilla with Astro Boy hanging off the drinks rack. Pleasantly surprised! Walking along Chapel st, this place caught my eye with it's dim interior and smell of juicy food. The menu is categorized for you and almost sounds like a story - either dirty or like an action film. Starting from my most favorite: Nori Taco - with grilled salmon belly and mayo $12 Small Nigiri and Sashimi Combo $24 (very fresh tasting sashimi) BBQ Pork Ribs $14 (really smokey and crunchy) Hickory Smoked Quail $18 (not my favorite but the other half gobbled it up) After my experience, I read the reviews and must say I think they have improved as our server was at first a bit short with us however she became more relaxed throughout the night and we found out that it was actually her 2nd shift and her 1st time having a full section to herself! I would go back again and next time I want to try to Fried Chicken since I had food envy about it as the other tables munched no box-fulls of them.

Jason M.

Yelp
It's a love hate relationship with Mr Miyagi. Love the food, hate the service. We arrived right on 6pm, so not too busy yet. After being seated at the bar, you're left to your own devices until you can flag someone down to take a drink order. The menu is full of appetising / interesting Japanese fusion. Good luck though getting someone to take your order. Between the front of house chatting and giggling with the bar staff and the rest of the service team chatting with each other, it's a veritable vacuum for service. I was very close to getting up and leaving! On a positive note the Japanese team members who presented the sashimi platter and waygu sushi were very descriptive and friendly. The tuna cracker is always a standout.

Madeleine W.

Yelp
Jumped at the chance to dine at Mr Miyagi one Friday night. It's cool, but you know that. For drinks a must try is the Mr Martini, a perfectly balanced martini garnished with pickled ginger. Food highlights included the tuna cracker, prawn balls and scallop pancakes. I was impressed with the wine knowledge and enthusiasm expressed by some of the wait staff, although the service on the whole was bit hit and miss. We did visit early on so I am hoping things will smooth out. I will give it another go in not too long.

Jane D.

Yelp
Ok, I have been wanting to try Mr Miyagi since I was born (slight exaggeration) and for the most part, it did not disappoint! The food is amazing, those Nori Tacos need an Oscar - so delicious and great balance of complimentary flavours and textures. And I love that the pulled pork buns come deconstructed so you can make them up as you like them. Everything else was great including the waiter. My one small criticism was, while waiting at the bar, we were told we had a table only to get up, gather all our belongings and then advised 'oops sorry, it was the people next to you. I'm sure yours won't be long'...not cool! Wait time was a little too long for a Tues night but the food and decor won me over....I'll be back!

Hailey P.

Yelp
very first place i visited during my visit to Melbourne. This seems to be the place the locals are going. It was so busy and packed- finally got seated after 20mims of wait. They pretty much serve bar food, so the portions were very small. But all the dishes we had was amazing(delicious and even creative). They also have a great selection of wine from all around the world. The service was wonderful as well, the waitress was very helpful-she actually helped me to choose the menu- and very attentive. I also loved the ambiance here- very hip!

Erin C.

Yelp
I do not plan to eat here due to how they mock Asian accents on the menus which is completely racist and offensive..

Sophia N.

Yelp
Get there early or do the wait time. Third time lucky for me as the 2 other times i tried to eat here the wait time for someone arriving around 7pm is 3.5hrs haaa! No way am i waiting that long. So we got there at 530pm and we didn't get seated straight away as you need your whole party present before you get seated. We went to the bar at the back and had some cocktails. Their cocktajl menu is very impressive and tasty. We got seated and ordered their signature dish the nori taco. That is the most amazing thing i've eaten ever. If you love tacos and japanese food that is. We ordered a few other dishes on the menu but none of them were a kick to the face bam kind of dishes. I would definitely come back here for the nori taco and cocktails and maybe next time order sashimi cause we had major food envy from the table beside us. All in all the service and staff were great, helpful and very friendly.

Alecia M.

Yelp
Seriously, we were invited back to experience Mr Myagi after our first experience here was less than enjoyable. We accepted the offer from management in order to rectify the "wrong" opinion we have of this place. Part of the "sweetener" was the offer of a complimentary bottle of wine, well that never happened. Firstly we were seated at a bar height table again a a wall behind the cashier. Our waitress, Brit was wonderful. That's about where my positives end. The stand in manager made a point of coming to our table once just to let us know that he knew we were the ones who we not impressed on our first visit We ordered the "feed me" menu for $55 each. We received 1 x taco; 2 pieces of raw fish, some fried chicken, 3 pcs of beef between the two of us and a desert. Ridiculous! And not in a good way. Don't get my wrong. I understand a "tasting" menu is never about the quantity but it's a show case of the chefs best dishes and flavors. Sorry chef, nothing that made it to my mouth excited me in the slightest. The fish taco was okay, but all I could taste was nori. The second plate was sashimi. Probably my favorite of the night, but really? The fish did all the work and the chef just sliced it so I'm not awarding any points for that. Then we received some edema beans. Nothing special there, oh wait they had sprinkled some tea over them - wow. The 4th was beef something with beetroot. It was okay, nothing special again. Then we had a box of friend chicken thrown at us. Sadly we had to send that back as it was dripping in oil and by this stage the night was over for me. No coming back after a KFC rip off is served up like its the newest thing to hit the plate and then dessert. A plate of pumpkin cake, ice cream and frozen yoghurt. It was okay but I only managed 2 mouthfuls of the sugar overload. This place is not my thing. Maybe it's just me. I don't want to shout in order to communicate with the person opposite me at the table and I certainty don't want to feel pripped off as I leave a venue, sadly I had to yell to be heard and I feel ripped off. I won't be back.

Micheal B.

Yelp
Asian fusion at its finest. Expect to wait on any night of the week. Salmon taco is the best item on the menu. Seaweed tempura taco shell with generous amount salmon. Unreal! Fried chicken, pork pancake and tempura broccoli were all delicious. Must try in Melbourne.

Clinton M.

Yelp
Hip atmosphere, good crowd, food was different in a good way, and tasty. Asian fusion tapas id call it, worth the drive from cbd. In an Interesting hipster area.

Phoebe L.

Yelp
I'm in two minds about this place. Whilst the food and especially their marmalade martini are deliciously awesome, the service here really got to me. Clearing plates when there was still food on them (they took away unfinished edamame), all dishes coming out at once, drinks coming after food, drink order taking twenty minutes to take despite talking to staff in mean time etc made the whole experience a little bit unpleasant. That being said, despite very small serving sizes vs cost, the food tasted great and the menu was really interesting. Highlights: scallops on pancakes, tuna on seaweed and the tuna cracker. The corn balls with popcorn were interesting but very deep fried. But worth a try for sure. All the food was presented beautifully and if the service gets better I would really like to go and try the bigger dishes. Anyway whatever you do order the martini.

Kobie D.

Yelp
I was so terribly disappointed with Mr Miyagi. I was really hoping it to be wonderful, you know, all cracked up to the hype. No, it was loud, our waitress was about 16 - maybe exaggerating ./ she wasn't very knowledgable on the menu at all. The seating was all squishy and we felt rushed. Food was okay but never really wowed. I'm sorry Mr M you just didn't do all that much for me

Amy R.

Yelp
A street style twist on Japanese food in a New York styled atmosphere. Unbelievably excellent service. The girl that served us had nothing but the best advice and encouraged us to jump out of out comfort zone. It may sound stood but the pumpkin loaf was out of this world lick the plate and demand more, amazing! It's not open in Mondays or Tuesdays and you might need to book ahead but it's well worth the wait.

Anthony D.

Yelp
Not sure where the bad service experiences come from. I've been twice, once on Weds & another time on Sat night. Service is good. Friendly & prompt enough with no rush feeling at all. Impressive given how busy this place is. Food is the highlight. Will not disappoint. Fried Chicken, Shrimp Pancake, pork ribs, etc. Food was slight better when not quite so busy, but still amazing value for this quality level.

Tam T.

Yelp
Too much hype for 1 hour wait on a Tuesday night. Food is good but not 1 hours. Recommend chin chin

Chantee F.

Yelp
It was a busy night but we got seated and fed quickly. With 5 of us the "feed me" special was a good deal. Great selection from the menu and everyone left very full. I enjoyed the sashimi and sushi rolls the best. The other items were creative but you can't beat good sushi. Fun atmosphere too!

Bonnie S.

Yelp
We went here at 6 pm on a Thursday night, before it got really busy. We were two couples and a 9 year old boy. We ordered a corn ball for the youngster (who also likes sushi and sashimi), tuna sashimi, hand rolls (the closest thing they have to sushi), edamame, green tea noodle salad, and ceviche. The ceviche was the only disappointment. Everything else was great. I especially like the sashimi, the hand rolls, and the noodle salad. The only things I didn't like were the noise level (supersonic jet level) and the cutesy mocking of a Japanese accent on the menu. Lose that, guys.

Sandy F.

Yelp
Decided to try Mr Miyagi after hearing a lot about it. There's no booking so one could imagine going early would be best. We put our names down at 6:30pm and it wasn't until 8:30pm that we were contacted to go in. The waitress was really helpful and went through the menu (even though we knew what we wanted to order). We had the nori tacos, sushi sandwich, MFC, and another entree sized dish. Everything tasted nice. We weren't thinking about dessert as we were quite full, however the pumpkin toast dessert caught our attention....even the waitress mentioned it was definitely worth trying. So we ordered it...and it was amazing! the presentation was lovely and it was one of the most interesting, tasty desserts I've had. next time, I'll just come for the dessert!

Kim S.

Yelp
I'd been meaning to get to Mr Miyagi for awhile now, and a recommendation from a friend at work prompted me to head down there for dinner this Friday. I arrived just as they were opening the door at 5.30 thinking if I got there early enough I wouldn't have to book a table. Wrong. Fully booked sorry, but they could still squeeze me in at the bar, which was fine for me. It was a cold and wet - perfect weather for a big flask of warm Edoichi sake! Unfortunately at $34 not great value. My work friend had recommended the Battered Corn so I started with a small serve of that. This arrived very quickly and consisted of four round fritters served on a black rectangular dish sprinkled with popcorn and some dollops of spicy corn puree. Not bad - nicely presented, but a little bland for my taste. Next up was MFC - Miyagi Fried Chicken. Served in a KFC style cardboard take away pack, this reminded me of the chicken ribs you get in Chinese restaurants, but a little saltier and not quite as succulent. To be honest, KFC is better. The last course was quail which was probably the pick of the bunch. It's easy to overcook this little bird, but the meat was really moist and sweet. Pity about the sauce, which was quite heavy handed. It was served on a bed of potato salad - which tasted like it came straight from the deli section of Coles - and a couple of soft boiled quail eggs, which added nothing to the dish. Unlike some of the other reviews I've read about Mr Miyagi, I thought the service was great (my waitress was definitely a keeper) but the food isn't. However, maybe that's just me as by the time I left at 6.30, just about every seat in the house was full. Personally, I gave it 2 stars, but only because of the service. If I was just rating it on the food and value for money I'd give it a 1. Overpriced and mediocre. PS Je suis Charlie...

Yelp
Loveee the Food - if you are a big foodie and after a nice night out - then you will love this place. A few things I wanted to point out though - after being here 3 times in the last month. You obviously have to wait a while and sometimes I haven't gone due to the fact its going to take 2.5 hrs +. However one night I put my name down and she told me I would have 2 hours to wait, as it was 5:30 - I was like perfect it will still be dinner time. After rounding up my family going back home and in the process of getting dressed she then calls me an hour into waiting and tells me I have 10 min to get back there. Luckily I sprinted and left my car half way up chapel to reach and have her tell me they nearly gave away my table (10min on the dot). I understand they cant guarantee the turnover times however I believe its slightly rude to almost give your table away when you have given us a wrong estimate of time. Another thing - when you enter in you are told you have an hour and half sitting - fair enough I get we are on a schedule and there are people waiting, however then during the night they are consisting taking away your plates as soon as you are in the process of taking away the last item of food. I want to relax when I'm eating and not feel that I'm being asked every few seconds are you finished? can I take this away now? Price of individual items is pretty reasonable - I don't mind paying a little extra for dinner when the food taste and presentation is amazing. If I was to suggest anything though it would be the curtesy of not letting people feel they are rushed, most people I know myself personally - are told they have a time slot will respect that it is a busy and quick turn around. Thanks!

Travis T.

Yelp
Exciting, tasty, origins and delicious. That's what the good is like here. I haven't been back since they opened, (mostly because I can't get a table!) However I booked three weeks ago and so tonight was the night. Great fun with a group of friends who loved the food. Service was fast and friendly. I would have given 5 stars but we found the music challenging. It's a blend of anxiety inducing commercial pop that took away from the coolness of the place. I'll be back tho..

Jeany L.

Yelp
Had a few of their tacos and I am back for more! We ordered 6 grazing and 1 dessert for share. Nori taco is an absolute must order here. Love their tuna tataki pizza (spicy) and black pig gyoza. Not to forget their 48hr pork belly! The lengthy process sure made then so tender and full of flavour! Not really digging their fried chicken and roast duck roti wrap (Maybe because I was too full at this point). Then again, there is still room for dessert obviously. Tropical tango is bigger than expected and as interesting as the description. Love their coconut and mango sorbet! Will definitely come back for more!

leila R.

Yelp
Pretentious, the food made me sick and the violet cocktail tastes like shampooed perfume, the beer warm. The staff super friendly and interior nice. Weird mix of made up Asian dishes, not just Japanese, all white staff except at the back bar. Loud loud music, clientele mainly female. I wrote a letter of feedback haven't received a reply.

Luisa B.

Yelp
Great food.. however the music is so so loud it is unbearable and the 'front of house staff' that greet you when you walk in are very rude and only acknowledge you when they are ready. They'll stand there chatting and looking at their screens and only greet you when they see fit. I'll be back for the food, not for the people, service or atmosphere. Also, if you're 'insta famous' or know someone that works there... you'll get a table quick and won't have to wait 4 hours like normal people.

J W.

Yelp
Nori tacos. Seriously delicious. Great atmosphere and the bar at the back is great for a cocktail beforehand. MFC highly recommended

Rolls S.

Yelp
At long last we tried it! Arrived just after 6 and the place was jam packed and the noise level at its fullest. We were immediately seated at the end of the bar towards the kitchen and surprisingly my partner and I could have a normal conversation without shouting. We ordered a bottle of Pipers Brook Pinot Gris ($70) which was served very promptly. The waitress that served us was friendly, helpful and very attentative. She recommended that we order five dishes to share. We picked the smoked salmon Tostadita ($16) with apple which I enjoyed the most, but it was quite difficult to eat this little stack as it all came tumbling down. Next up (in quick succession) was the Tempura Spider Crab Bahn M ($12) which we both did not enjoy. It was dripping with a very fishy tasting sauce or perhaps the fishy dripping taste came from the crab itself, who knows! Immediately after our Black Pig Gyosa (5 pieces for $15)was served and that was very nice. Hardly wiped our mouthes when the third dish, Duck with toasted Roti Wrap ($22) arrived, this was nice but the inside filling was extremely hot almost as if it was heated inside a microwave oven. Quite frankly at this stage we felt we had eaten enough savoury dishes and asked for our MFC be cancelled and ordered one serve of Apple Doughnuts ($15) which was the best ever! All in all our meal came to $150 and we tipped the waitress a deserving $20. It was an experience, albeit on the expensive side. Will we come again? Probably not.

Mon M.

Yelp
We checked out Mr Miyagi last Wednesday night at about 8pm. It was surprisingly pumping and we had to wait 1 1/2 for a table, so we hung out at the bar. Why the hell did we wait? Who knows! Luckily we were in a good mood. Because of the wait we ordered a couple of bites - one each of the rice paper rolls - soba noodle and the Japanese eggplant. Both were pretty average. However the wine we ordered was great - I had the Tai Nui sav blanc. When we we eventually got to our table, we ordered the edamame (most unpleasant I've ever had - way too over seasoned and didn't enjoy the smokey flavours), the nori taco (SENSATIONAL but warning - the chilli oil has a kick!), salmon sashimi (awesome as usual) and the Roast Duck Roti Wrap (awful so salty we didn't finish it). Overall we had a lot of fun there because of the atmosphere, friendly staff and fun tunes. Would be great place to meet friends for a cocktail.

Jesse B.

Yelp
Mr. Miyagi is not wax on or wax off , it is more of a rip off . Rarely would I leave a dinner hungry after $50 but I easily did here . I don't mind paying for ambiance but it's a bit out of hand. Daniel Lerusso would never choose here as his sensè
