We have been here three times and each time is better than the last. The food is absolutely amazing and service is excellent. My husband had the soft-shelled crab and I had blackened stuffed grouper, which was melt-in-your-mouth good. We had Kahlua pecan pie a la mode for dessert - pie made in house. Cocktails are great too. How good the food is in this restaurant cannot be overstated. If you have not been here, you are missing out.

Google
The duck entree and smoked salmon appetizer were amazing. Cocktails were delightful. Our server, Sam, was wonderful. 10/10 recommend and can't wait to go back!

Was in town for work, and this was highly recommended from a local coworker. We timed it just right, came in on a Tuesday night around 7:30, and we had to wait about 5 minutes. Daily specials sounded great, but I'm a sucker for crab cakes, so I had to get them, and was not disappointed. My wife got the surf and turf with the crab stuffed lobster tail. Staff from the door, to the bar to the waitstaff were all fantastic.

Google
We had a great evening at Mr P’s! AND we were lucky to get a table with Sam…:she was wonderful even if she didn’t understand why the UNC Tarheels were superior to her team (Dook). She brought charm, comedy and excellent service throughout our extended stay. We had the duck and prime rib..:both were excellent. Sides are amazing as well. Will return and ask for Sam’s section!

Google
Food was excellent would recommend reservations we enjoyed everything we had! Rebecca our server was excellent as well.

Google
This place came highly recommended and it did not disappoint. Our server, Trinity, was amazing. She was very knowledgeable and made good recommendations for appetizers through dessert. The fried green tomatoes were the perfect crispness and the remoulade was distinctive. The Underground Tuna was prepared perfectly and melted in our mouth. Flavors were balanced and preparation was spot on. We were simply blown away! We will definitely be back.

If you know me, you know I am the pickiest, most selective eater imaginable. Mr P’s went above and beyond from Erica making the most perfect French Martini to customizing a meal for me based on my favorites, with a packed restaurant on a Saturday night chef Stephen went out of his way to create the most phenomenal dish for me. Do yourself a favor make reservations, plan on an experience of a lifetime & do not forget to order the sweet potato brûlée cheesecake which is my now all time favorite dessert! This family run business pulled out all the stops to make my night perfection! Thank you for the best dining experience I’ve had in a long time!!!! I will be back soon & often!

Google
The scallops were tasty, but the steak didn’t quite live up to our expectations. It took about 11 minutes before our waitress greeted us, though she was kind and friendly once she did. The restaurant itself feels like it hasn’t seen an update since the 90s, which added to the overall dated vibe. With so many great spots to choose from in town, we’ll likely try somewhere else next time.

Yelp
Okay, I know I have reviewed Mr. P's on several occasions but I just can't help myself. We go there every chance we can when in Southport. Unfortunately we have been out of the country for a very long time under unfortunate circumstances and missed seeing everyone. So we went a week ago. Actually twice since we got back. Some new faces, but mostly everyone we already knew and love. Stephen does not change up the menu much if at all and I do giggle a bit when our waitresses recite the specials. I have them memorized. But thats in some ways the charm of Mr. P's. You know what it will be and its always great. These two visits I had the same things...oysters Bienville, scallops, and fried green tomatoes and another vegetable which Im blanking on at the moment, but they're all good. His oysters whether raw or Bienville or Rockefeller are fresh as you will find. The scallops are always simple and cooked to perfection. Never a rubbery scallop nor one still swimming. As for the tomatoes, I make wonderful fried green tomatoes, but as good as mine are, Stephen just knocks it out of the ball park. So just last night I made a batch of his recipe and froze them to extend the green tomato season. BTW, everything from the bar is crafted to perfection. I recommend the aviator. As usual, you won' find better staff, a better co-owner/chef, fresher better food and a relaxing place to de stress. And no they don't pay me to say it, its just that good. Cheers

Yelp
Mr P's Bistro is a cozy little restaurant with great food. My pan seared scallops were cooked to perfection and the french onion soup was to die for. Our waitress, Sam, provided wonderful service to our party of 11. Highly recommend if you are in the Southport area!

Carmela M.

Yelp
Our waiter Michael was amazing. The service was fast and the food was excellent. The vibes were very calm and our booth was beautiful.

Kaci B.

Yelp
My husband and I have been taking a weekend trip to Southport for our anniversary for the last 4 years. Heading there again and Mr P's will be our first stop! The staff is beyond professional and the food is amazing. We cannot wait to return!

Susan

Yelp
If I could rate higher than 5 star I would. The food was amazing and our server Rebecca was stellar. The grouper was delicious as well as the Underground tuna. We have never had sides as outstanding as they offer. The lemon blueberry dessert was outstanding. We will definitely go back.

Yelp
Food- my prime rib was blackened. My hubby's prime rib was lacking taste and kinda tough even if cooked on medium. Free bread and butter- kind dry rolls. Butter had no herb or flavor in it. My goat cheese with squash was lovely combo! I enjoyed the grits as it was a scoop full- not a syrupy mess you get at breakfast. The French onion soup for me wasn't salty enough. Key lime pie- all desserts made on premise. Although was yummy, it had a very sharpppp lime bite to it. For me that was too overpowering. Didn't care for the "whip cream". Not sweet enough. I preferred the version done at Provisional Company instead, but that's just us. Service-excellent! I gave a 20% tip coz it was just great. Atmosphere- called in our 4:30p Saturday reservation the day before. For us it was very warm , need to crank up the a/c to make it cooler. So being uncomfortable made me not want to stay too long. We may be back.

Yelp
Our friends called 4 weeks ahead to snag a table on a recent Saturday Night. Glad they did. Food, Service and atmosphere are exceptional. Our server was very impressive, reciting the lengthy list of specials that night....and special they were. The local oysters were fresh, briny, simply delicious. The shad roe appetizer, appearing for the first time this year, was outstanding. She crab soup exceptional taste. The fresh Grouper was perfectly seared, tender, succulent, tasty --absolutely delicious. This is clearly the best restaurant in Southport. Some minor nits: - Reservations required. - Short wine list, not much to choose from. Reasonably priced however. - The place gets busy and consequently very loud - Parking on the street within a block or two.

Yelp
So happy we finally got to try Mr. P's! It came highly recommended and it certainly didn't disappoint. From the absolutely amazing server, Sam to the delicious food and drinks. I had the French Onion soup, it was perfection. My boyfriend had the she crab soup and he gave it 5 stars. For dinner I had the prime rib, medium rare, cooked to perfection with red potatoes and green beans. 5 stars, boyfriend had the blackened grouper with fried green tomatoes and Lima beans, all exquisite. We unfortunately had no room for dessert. Next time! A must, and make sure to make reservations!

Christine C.

Yelp
The rules are amazing with butter such a good service. The prime brand and filet mignon are amazing. Definitely going back here. It is the best restaurant here in Southport and I will think Mr. P for the bet for one of the best services and a thank you for being very, very nice to all of us. Great cocktails too.

Yelp
Fantastic we went for a birthday dinner... had the special and it amazing. Very stiff drinks which is definitely a good thing.

Jeremy S.

Yelp
Been going here at least once during every vacation to Oak Island: many years we go twice. This year completely screwed the pooch, separate tables, while seating a small party at a large table. I booked a table for 10 on May 1 for a July 29 meal. The back room was near empty, instead we were squeezed in like sardines next to the bar. Pretty pathetic planning, especially when reservations were made well in advance. We also dined at Oliver's, which we do annually, similar menu, I would recommend Oliver's instead, they at least have some foresight, given the same reservation.

Tammy M.

Yelp
Excellent meal start to finish. Great service and best prime rib ever. Love how they serve good ole country vegetables like corn off the cob and Lima beans instead of boring baked potato

Tori B.

Yelp
Do not miss this dining experience while in Southport. We dined here every night while we were visiting. Make reservations and enjoy the whole Mr P experience!

John W.

Yelp
I had dinner at Mr. P's Bistro. Very nice place. Really good fresh food including oysters. But the most impressive part of dinner was the service. My waiter "Addison" was outstanding. He treated me like family. Just a great young man. I will be back.

Shelby S.

Yelp
We got a wonderful table by the window in Southport . The service was wonderful , lots of specials and the food was wonderful. Our table had the oyster Rockefellers, blackened Prime Rib, clam chowder, Lobster tails and French dip that my husband said it was the best he had ever had. All was enjoyed by all. Make sure You get reservation! It is a busy place !
google avatar

Everett H.

Yelp
From start to finish one of the best restaurants on the island. Always a friendly face at the front of restaurant, great service and exquisite food. We had the oysters Rockefeller and the filet mignon Oscar style, wonderful flavor and perfectly cook. A must when visiting or a special occasion.

Yelp
Food was gourmet. Atmosphere was high class. Food looked and tasted like it was chef prepared. Service was upscale.

Shawn W.

Yelp
Most amazing service and food we've had in Southport. Can't recommend them high enough! Oysters on the half shell were awesome. Blackened prime rib was perfect and delicious. April was our server and was spectacular to say the very least. We'll certainly be back! Thanks April was being so Awesome!!

Yelp
Much more than just seafood. Great beef and sandwiches. Never had a bad experience in 20 years.

Yelp
I still love this place! Food is awesome. When in Southport, be sure to try it out! Plan on making a reservation though! Very popular!!!

Tom O.

Yelp
Love this place! Great fresh food well prepare with a professional wait staff. On our rotation of restaurants.

Yelp
We have eaten here for years but tonight really reminded me of why this place is so awesome. First of all shout out to Addison( I asked our server your name). You are perfect for your position. I understand you are third generation in this restaurant. Well I feel great about their future. Another shout out to Sam, our server who always checked on us and made sure we were happy. You, too, have what it takes to be successful. Our last shout out is to the kitchen. Our food was killer and we loved every bite! I just wish more restaurants could learn from yall! Thanks for a great evening!! Can't wait to see you again!

William A.

Yelp
As always, great service from hostesses to wait staff. Go for the oysters and the She Crab soup. Unfortunately, we tried the duck...it was both a tad over-cooked and incredibly tough (think flank steak). May I suggest that the duck be a pre-order cooked based on reservation time & served with more sauce (on the side). Is a "sharing charge" of $8 really necessary when splitting meals? Great Bourbon Manhattan! Several window tables look out at a home under a lengthy renovation. Some window treatments are needed. Otherwise, great food! Street parking.

John P.

Yelp
This restaurant is amazing. It has a great atmosphere without being pretentious. The real star is the food. The rolls were very good and fresh. The blackened prime rib was incredible. The crab cake was incredible. The dudes

Lisa R.

Yelp
Always fantastic service and food has always been superb. I've lived here 25 years full time. Never have had a bad experience. Consistency is spot on !!! Chris does a wonderful job

Drew N.

Yelp

Yelp
Enjoyed a nice diner at Mr. P's. They offer a full service bar, great diner menu options from fish, steaks, prime rib, etc. Service was stellar. Overall, had a nice relaxing diner with great food and drink.
google avatar

Al W.

Yelp
This was really a disappointment. The server, Aaron, was great and none of this is against him. And the cocktails and oysters were delicious so hats off to the bartender. But the food - ugh. A steakhouse that specializes in prime rib should be able to plate a flavorful cut of meat, but both the prime rib and pork chop lacked flavor. I asked the server to grab some finishing salt from the kitchen (a staple in every steakhouse) and all he could come up with was a ramekin of the dry rub they use on the rib - and no surprise there wasn't much salt. The sides and special she crab soup also lacked flavor - so it's the chef not the meat. It's hard to make Certified Angus Beef tasteless - so I wonder if that's even what they are serving.

Yelp
Wonderful service!! I had the filet mignon and it was delicious! We started with the she crab soup, it was absolutely the best I've ever had. Very light and tasty with tons of crab meat. Our friend had the catch of the day, flounder blackened and Oscar style. Looked amazing! So much food and so good! Don't miss it!

Jennifer G.

Yelp
If I could give more than 5 stars, I absolutely would! My husband and I dine here at least twice a month. The food is consistently excellent and the staff is amazing! Their staff will always go above and beyond to make your experience the absolute best! From the hosts, servers, support staff, bartenders, Chef and Owners, everyone is friendly and accommodating!! They treat you like family and that is why we keep coming back! We've had dinner there with large parties to just enjoying an appetizer at the bar and ALWAYS a great time!! Mr. P's is a MUST if you're in town or just for a nice night out!!
google avatar

Tiffany J.

Yelp
This place was amazing! Some of the best service, food, and ambiance I've ever had. Highly recommend. I get why they are packed!!! Too bad it's so far from me or I would go broke being a regular diner here.

Diane G.

Yelp
Excellent food, service and bar. Highly recommend this restaurant. Where to make a reservation- it is a very popular place

Yelp
My husband and I had an amazing dinner here on an early Thursday evening. Just thinking about writing out this review is making me drool. First off, the restaurant is very quaint and charming. Our waitress was awesome, I wish I remembered her name but she was very helpful and efficient, really appreciated her insight. When I was indecisive about what beer I wanted, she offered me a glass to try. I thought that was a nice touch. The food! We tried the Oysters 3x3, the crab dip, the soft-shell crabs, and the blackened swordfish (oscar style). All of it was superb. The crab dip was phenomenal, the best I've had. I have dreams about the crab dip. It's amazing. The oysters were good! My husband is an oyster fan, so I only had one but it was very tasty. The soft-shell crabs were juicy and meaty, but they do come fried. My husband did wish he would've gotten something slightly more flavorful, as there were so many good options, but there was nothing wrong with the crab at all, just didn't stand out as well as other entrees. My swordfish was awesome, tasted like a yummy steak with crab on it. The potatoes were great as well. We also shared the peach cheesecake and it was just.... perfection. If I could have a perfect meal, this would be close to it. It's too bad I live 600 miles away because I'd go there again in a heartbeat. Awesome place and a great date night spot.

Yelp
Make a reservation at Mr. P's immediately, you will not regret it. The vibe is very upscale coastal cottage with white tablecloths. The menu changes based on seasonal fish availability and that's how you know it's fresh. I was so impressed by how many side dish options they had! Every thing we tasted was so fresh and beautifully prepared. It felt like eating at your grandma's house if your grandma was a world class seafood chef. I mean it was that good. You can bring your own bottle of wine but there is a corkage fee ($15 I believe). We were celebrating a special occasion but I would definitely go back any night of the week just because. I really enjoyed Mr. P's.

Yelp
If in Southport you should give this spot a try. You probably hear, "this place is expensive!" But believe me, if you've lived anywhere other than Brunswick County then you will see that this place is priced well. I had a shrimp special (not fried) and it was awesome. I had a tuna ceviche type dish and it was wonderful. The place was hot; you would think you guys could keep the air conditioner down low, but other than that nothing negative to say. Make a reservation.
google avatar

Troy H.

Yelp
We went here recently on our recent beach trip. This meal was easily our best meal we had while in the area. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable. The food was amazing! I would highly recommend dining here!!!
google avatar

Melissa G.

Yelp
I don't have anything negative to say about this place. We sat at the bar to eat because it was packed, so do call for a reservation! The servers were great and the perfect mix of personable without being obtrusive. One of them made the best espresso martini I've ever had! The oysters were divine! The steak cooked perfectly! I can see why this place is a big deal around there.

Yelp
Outstanding staff from Hostess, Eve our Waitress, Steve the MGR, etc.... Excellent food options - Flounder Stuffed Crab, Underground Tuna, Apps, deserts.....with exciting cocktail choices .... Made Reservations and seating time and location was " Spot on" Atmosphere was great too.....

Will B.

Yelp
Great meal, great service. First time at Mr. P's and we will definitely be back. Enjoyed sitting at the bar. Trinity was awesome and all of the staff did an excellent job. Will be back for the prime rib topped with crab stuffed lobster tail!
google avatar

Scott P.

Yelp
Simply the best. This was my first time to Southport and it was our dinner spot our very first night. The meal and service was so great that we canceled our other dinner reservation and came back here the very next night. They are known for their prime rib and it's a MUST. One of the best I've ever had. I paired it with a lobster tail with stuffed crab meat... off the charts. The charm of this place is very old North Carolina and it's why the town of Southport is a gem. Mr. P's will be a place I'll visit again very soon!
google avatar

Debby M.

Yelp
Great oysters, prime rib and blackened tuna. Tennille is an awesome waitress. Service with a smile!
google avatar

Yelp
This is our favorite restaurant around. The food is always consistently good. The service and the mixed drinks are always good. :)

Yelp
This place is peculiar, but the drapes don't match the curtains. I didn't expect to have the quality, both in food and service, that I did. It's the facade, feels dated. I came in completely underdressed, hoodie, khaki work pants and a hat. Everyone else came for fine dinning. The hostesses were a bit older than me and apprehensive, definitely because the way I was dressed, but begrudgingly sat me at my requested place at the bar. The bartender was fantastic. She was mid twenties and didn't once make me feel out of place, for the entirety of the evening. The menu had great appetizer options, and was very well balanced between local seafood, steaks and pasta. This is a must go to restaurant in this area, definitely a staple.

Richard D.

Yelp
I visited Mr P's for the first time on 1 March 2024 with my fiancee to celebrate my birthday. The food; crab dip (enough for two), crab cakes, prime rib, fried green tomatoes, and green beans was awesome! Our server; Trinity, was a joy. She was friendly, attentive, extremely positive, and had the long list of daily appetizers and specials down cold! I can't remember when, if ever, that I have had better service. The restaurant decor was nice but not overdone. The table decor, table cloth and cloth napkins, were indicative of a touch above restaurant; very nice. The only negative comment I have is that it was very noisy. We had to raise our voices to be heard at our table and I could barely hear Trinity as she flawlessly told us the daily specials. We had to ask her to repeat some of the offerings. A really nice culinary experience worth a repeat visit and a five star rating . . . if only something could be done to reduce the noise; thus the four stars.

Ellie G.

Yelp
Always amazing. Every time. Tonight I had the shrimp scampi and ordered my shrimp blackened for a little extra spice. Cocktails were perfect. Everything arrives just as described by the always knowledgeable staff. We were pleased as usual and remembered we need to finally review this gem. Never change, you're perfect Mr Ps.
