Mrs Potts Hostel ( Closed down)

DO NOT BOOK THIS! Do not get tempted by the nice pictures, this is by far the worst place you can choose to stay in Cardiff. I was given codes for check-in and when I arrived just before 8pm, the front door code did not work and there was nobody in reception (supposedly manned from 10am to 10pm). Luckily, another guest was leaving and I got in the building. Climbed to the very top and arrived in the room. The place was damp, smelled stale, there was an old very smelly mattress in the cupboard, the floor was dirty. windowsill sticky, armchair wet and questionable, there was signs of mold and rot on the walls. I went to check the bathroom to find it completely flooded with an inch of water all over, but NO WATER in the tap or shower. I then discovered NO ELECTRICITY. I called the number provided and was told this is being handled. Before leaving the hostel for the evening, the electricity and water did briefly come back on, but when I returned later, there was no water again. In the morning, before the reception desk was open, I spoke to another guest who had been staying at the hostel for 3 weeks and said that it had been this way the whole time. I ended up paying for a gym membership to have a shower and use the toilet elsewhere. The customer service is awful, the receptionist acted like it's all no big deal. When I reported that there is no water in the morning, they then switched the power off too, to "reboot". I decided not to risk staying the second night, packed up and left. I guess I can consider myself lucky not to have been bitten by bedbugs. Having seen the standard, I wouldn't stay there again even for free.

Horrible Experience – Avoid at All Costs! I recently had a reservation at this hostel for the nights of April 19th and 20th, 2025, for 2 people. Unfortunately, my stay turned into an absolute nightmare from the moment we arrived. When we checked in, we were informed that there was no electricity in the building, meaning no lights in the rooms or in the bathroom, and no hot water available. This made it impossible for us to even take a shower, and we were left in a completely inadequate and uncomfortable situation. As if that wasn’t bad enough, the front desk had trouble finding our reservation. When they finally located it, they informed us that it was only booked for one adult, even though the reservation was clearly made for two people. We were also told that, should we decide to stay, we would have to switch rooms from the one we originally booked. On top of all these issues, I later found out that many others had complained about bedbugs and unsanitary conditions at this hostel, with some even mentioning that homeless individuals were being housed there. This made us feel even more uncomfortable and unsafe. Given the total lack of basic amenities and the poor condition of the place, we had no choice but to leave and find accommodation elsewhere. I highly recommend avoiding this hostel at all costs. The lack of basic infrastructure, poor customer service, and overall discomfort made this one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had while traveling.

Yes it's a dump and it stinks. However the room was ok, it didn't stink, sheets were changed and it was very quiet (midweek). I brought a sleeping bag after reading all the bedbugs reviews online and fortunately there were no signs of any. (Stayed in the cheapest room in the basement).

DON'T come. Most rooms are filled with BEDBUGS, the receptionists lied to us telling us that it was the first time someone had complained about it, but some reviews date back to 2024 complaining about the same thing. They lost our reservation (told us they'd made a mistake) the same week we were staying there and had to relocate us in another room the 2nd night. Many people got bitten, some with serious allergic reactions, and some others had to leave the hostel. Rooms are dirty, there's only cold water in the shower and the staff weren't very helpful. 0/10.

This is the absolute WORST experience i have ever had in any kind of accomodation. THERE WERE BEDBUGS (the staff has previously known about this for quite a while since there are bad reviews from months ago), they straight up denied there were. We were a large group that booked the rooms almost 6 months ago and they "forgot" about our reservation and made us share rooms with strangers (that was not the agreement beforehand). A few people in our group were stung by bed bugs and one had a severe rash and allergic reaction that needed medical treatment. This place needs to hire an exterminator or either shut down. This is a public health safety Hazard.

Worst experience i had there, the receptionist is a big time lier The washroom was dirty with no water and electricity and all rooms were continuously smelling bad It was very difficult to sleep, The receptionist who sits during night was the worst person i have ever met who passed personal comments and threatened to call police when we complained about room condition. There was no one to listen to our complaint, there emergency call number which says it’s opened 24*7 was never ringing. Please do not book this hostel ever this doesn’t even worth of spending £1

BED BUGS in all the rooms...party members had to leave to find alternative accommodation in the middle of the night - no apology, no refund, no shame! Reception is unmanned from 10pm to 10am, so if you have a problem at bedtime (AKA BED BUGS!!!) there's no one to complain to - they already have your money and they won't give it back. South Wales Police non-emergency number is 101, you'll need it to get your money back. Shame on Booking.com too for not enabling reviews from party members.

I book a room with 4 bed through booking for 87£. The photos are false it is old, damp, with moisture. Our bedsheets havnt been change uppon our arrival, we ask for it to be change. There was crips on the floor. We try to sleep but impossible with the noise of the clubs in the street and around 11pm we discover bedbugs. We coulndt sleep in that ! So we leave having to find another hotel for 240£. Mrs potts play gosth and dont want to reimburse us. I am still calling booking but the only compensation i receive from booking is 15£ voucher...
