Google
Service was the only decent thing. Food was 🤢🤮 hospital food is better. I had spaghetti and meatballs. Meatballs were tiny and tasted like sausage (definitely from a box). Sauce was like tomato paste with greasy cheese on top. Garlic bread tasted of nothing. Prego pasta sauce from a jar is preferable. We should have known, when we walked in it smelled ....funky (not in a good way). Do not go here!

Google
The service was fantastic and the Kitchen sink Won Ton soup is delicious! I had the small and it was plenty but the large would have given me like lunch for the next day!

Was quiet when we went in. Our server was very friendly. Food was... Good. I had the wor wonton. Not quite as flavourful as I had hoped. Cute atmosphere, tho.

Google
Ordered fish and chips.....atrocious Heavy breading, little portion of actual fish, which was incredibly oily. Fries are definitely frozen out of a bag. Told server food was awful, no further action from staff, paid full price. Don't waste your time snd money on this place.

This is a great little family diner that has a charming 60s vibe. The atmosphere is very welcoming, and the staff are pleasant. I was happy with the food, and my boyfriend absolutely loves it here. His favorite dish is the veal cutlets, and the spaghetti was also good. The portions are large, and they offer some fantastic drinks, both alcoholic and non-alcoholic.

Google
We stopped by here for lunch today on the way to the ferry. The gentleman who served us was fantastic, unfortunately have forgotten his name. I had the mushroom Swiss burger, my partner had the bacon mushroom burger and my sister in law had the quesadillas. We all LOVED our meals. The mushroom gravy with my burger was addicting. We will definitely stop by here whenever we pass through Nanaimo again. Amazing food and fantastic service! Thank you!

Was really looking forward to trying this place. The atmosphere was fun and our server was amazing. But the food was just okay. The salad was fine and the won ton soup were interesting, and tasted decent, but not spectacular. Will likely be back to try the desserts but so far not in the top five best places we've tried in Nanaimo. My wife wanted to give it 4/5 so we'll split the difference and call it 3.5

Google
Fantastic meal here last night! So many menu options, hard to choose as they're all so yummy. Bottomless Pepsi?! We don't have that in NZ, so was a pleasant suprise! Will go back when we are next in Nanaimo. The decor in the restaurant is worth a trip

Yelp
Bring your appetite people you won't leave hungry that is for sure! The negative reviews on this one are not warranted. Eat Here you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Would give five stars, and an extra five bucks, if they could just de-tail the shrimp in their otherwise wonderful Wor Wonton soup! So tired of burned fishy smelling fingers!

Yelp
Have eaten here for years. The last two times we have been in the service was horrible (if the restaurant was full I would understand but there were three servers for maximum 10 people in the restaurant. The prices are atrocious for what you actually get. I was mortified when we ordered the Appie Plater and it came out looking like wilted apples that had been cooked hours earlier. Beef Dip was about the worst I have ever tasted. The fries were cold as ice. The only redeeming part of our meal was the wontons in the War Wonton Soup. Even the soup was tasteless. This was a go to spot for us for years - it will no longer be on our list to go to when visiting Nanaimo again. Very disappointing.

Yelp
Great Nanaimo staple. If you want to see what you are made of, try the Mountian Burger. It is absolutely enormous, but a lot of fun trying to finish. The food and service is great. If you are looking for a classic Nanaimo experience: John Catucci said it best. You gotta eat here.

Yelp
Mrs Riches is a quirky small town family joint. I think it would be a good place to bring your kids as there is lots of distractions and a kids menu. I did find the restaurant unusually quiet so maybe a good place to bring your grand parents if they're hard of hearing. If you are looking for a romantic date or have particularly sophisticated tastes then this is not the place to be. I ordered their award winning wor wonton soup. They had a few varieties of wonton soup and this is their speciality. I enjoyed it and would recommend. My parents had the fish and chips, which they thought was overly crisp and not a big enough portion. My brother ordered their prawn penne and informed me he would give it a 4/10. So like I said if you have high standards for eating out try another establishment. This is more of a take the kids out for their birthday situation.

Yelp
So I had the seafood nibbles and my partner has the Swiss alps burger. The seafood nibbled was $20 and came with some really wet clams, and tiny pieces of fish. The only good thing on the plate was the scalloped potatoes. It also came with Mediterranean wontons which were wonton wrappers stuffed with cheese but the outside was very hard and the inside was ok. Nothing was very hot just somewhat Luke warm. The Swiss alps burger has a very rubbery texture to the meat. It was over cooked and not hot enough to really melt the cheese. The bun was kind soggy. I wish it had been toasted a little. And the fries we got with it were like warm again not very hot. The server were excellent but paying 3.57 for a pop is ridiculous. The cheesecake we ordered was good and for the size and price it was great.

Yelp
Make sure you bring cash ? There interact went down so I had to find a bank machine. It was not too close to the restuarant. Finally found 1 without a service charge. When I arrived back it was like it happens everyday not a thanks for returning to pay for a meal no discount or anything for my time. Food was ok but they need to work on manners and being thankful to the public for being honest......wont go back

Robert T.

Yelp
I had the Dragon Balls wontons and Wor Wonton Soup. The servings were a decent size and the food was delicious. Service was prompt and polite. I would definitely come back.

Yelp
Great atmosphere inside. Burgers are amazing. Bun is bigger than your head. If they are to big for you try sharing it with a friend. Had a shake and it was thick and made with real ice cream.

Yelp
Okay had to try this place due the 'Gotta Eat Here' show... Was disappointed with reviews to date however my experience was pretty good Enjoyed the BOB not a 1 or 2 pounder of beef but extremely tasty and the patty was very good and fresh... I would recommend this one for sure Had an appy home salad - with their dill dressing WOW scrumptious to no end.... Was extremely impressed - was very expensive for the size, however the combination of veg dressing and nuts and taste made up for it. Staff seemed all new and on a weekday not many servers on hand either and it got really busy all of a sudden - it wasnt really the servers fault - but at least they were very friendly.... One of the dish washers had to come out do menus clearing etc etc I'd give this one a shot if you are in town looking for a burger..... Or their homemade won ton soups lots of varieties on menu and the volume of people ordering looked like a good choice & HUGE...

Yelp
If I could give -5 stars I would. I ordered delivery from them for seafood pasta. It was delivered to my house by skip the dishes. I opened the bag and was shocked and disgusted. They put pasta with a liquid sauce in styrofoam first of all. Secondly they put it in sideways (??????) which like, what the fuck. All of the sauce and half the pasta was in the plastic bag. I tried cleaning it up because the bag was dripping sauce everywhere and when I picked up the flimsy styrofoam box, it collapsed on the weight of the pasta and now my bed, my sheets and my pillows are covered in sauce. I don't have a washing machine in my house (obviously if I'm eating in my bedroom I don't have a lot) so now I have to pay money to have everything cleaned and my mattress is soaked. Did I mention it's seafood pasta? Yeah, my beds going to smell like shrimp for awhile. Absolutely gross that they'd package something like that. I have a lot going on, can barely feed myself, so when something that's supposed to be so easy and simple goes awry like this it doesn't sit well with me.

Yelp
How this place made it on the Food Network Canada TV show. You gotta eat here is beyond me. Went from the hype of the show only to be turned off right from entering the door. From the over powering smell of bleach or some strong cleaner, to the spider webs hanging off various nick nacks in the place was only the start. Washrooms were DIRTY and the decor is tacky, and dated. The meals we ordered, one had the beef dip one had a burger were nothing special. I have eaten and better places. I won't be back and am turned off from this place. This is one of the worst places to drop some money down for a meal. Mrs.Riches totally stinks! When they have a sign in the entrance way as seen on tv, should have been a sign to leave. A name should speak for itself if the food is good, and not need to brag about it. Let me know when you get a real chef, because the meals were total garbage overall! On the other hand John's Place in Victoria is AWESOME.

Yelp
I really thought this restaurant would of been what I expected. I heard it was on a food show and saw the menu before I went (which looked really good). I ordered a burger which the patty looked and tasted like it was frozen. The pop was flat and after that I just wanted to leave. I will not be back.

Yelp
We have gone to dine at Mrs. Riches in Nanaimo many times in the past and never had a problem, but we may not be going again any time soon. On January 19, 2020 we took my wife's Mom to dinner for her 82nd birthday. We ordered the fish and chips (substituted the chips for rice). The batter on the fish was extremely greasy, which took away from the taste of the fish and the rice was cold, hard, and crusty. I don't know how they could even serve anything like that to people. For desert there was an apple crisp crumb cake which when it came was so mushy that it couldn't be eaten. I don't know who they had cooking in the kitchen that night, but I think they need to go back to cooking school. Needless to say it will be a while before we eat at Mrs. Riches in Nanaimo again.

Yelp
Great selection. Western cooking and a few good Asian dishes. Absolutely loved the wonton soups!! They also have their own sweet hot sauces Really like the atmosphere and will go again. Price was reasonable too.

Yelp
I thought it was a neat place but then I got food poisoning. I haven't been back since, which was about 5 years ago now. They may have changed since then but I felt so awful that night that I don't want to risk it by going here again.

Yelp
I had the best Mushroom Burger & yam fries at Mrs Riches Restaurant. The gravy & sauces complimented the food. Excellent service. My daughters loved the fettuccine & Caesar salads. I recommend this place to eat

Yelp
Mrs Riches has been a icon to me as one of the most memorable restaurants, It's been up and running for as long as I can remember, and everyone knows what mrs. riches is! My favourite order was the stir fry bowls! My mother is also a huge fan of your wontons, so very much so that she gets me to bring her an order or two to go when I'm heading over to her house on the mainland! I love the restaurant but feel like the service and quality is lacking, I'm not sure how many owners have gone through there but it isn't what it used to be!

Yelp
You DON'T gotta eat here! We had high hopes for this restaurant but unfortunately nothing met our expectations. The place was almost empty on a Saturday afternoon, which should have been our first clue. We ordered the appetizer platter - the chicken nuggets were crispy on the outside but stone cold in the middle. How does that happen? The rest of the appetizers were what we expected - deep fried. We ordered the mushroom burger which came with fries and ordered a caesar salad. The burger was meh....The menu describes the caesar salad as "not so regular". The lettuce was soggy, despite it being basically undressed. It was topped with mozzarella cheese. All in all we felt it was a waste of time and money. Needless to say we will not be back.

Yelp
Meditteranean Wontons are yummy. Once you get a craving for them or for their big bowls of wonton or noodle soup, you HAVE to fill that craving. Ambiance is not great, but service is fast and friendly.

Yelp
I am "Not" the person that trolls businesses just to leave a bad review! Actually I haven't left a bad review since can remember? I truly just wanted to put my thoughts out for any other person who has never ventured into this Restaurant. My wife and I where looking for a good "Quant" place to eat on a Saturday night when we came across what appeared to be a good place to eat! After all a catering truck was sitting outside? We both ordered the fish and chips....YUCK! First the fish was full of grease, it hadn't even been drained properly, then it was thrown atop a half dozen over cooked French fries leaving the fries to become soggy and ewwww just ewwww. The batter on the fish was overly compensated with salt. Perhaps this rest. was once good? However, I will never again dine there....EVER! What a waste of 30 bucks! The only thing nice about this place was the service. But hey, if that's all you care about is great service and crap food, then this is the place for you.

Yelp
I'm so torn on this review. The food was fantastic. There were three of us and everybody raved over what they chose. On the other hand, the decor is hideous. Dark and dirty looking, if I hadn't heard good things about it I would have turned around and walked out. The menu is nicely varied with lots of selection both for types of food and budget, but it's pretty cheesy looking. The dessert menu was a disappointment for anyone who hates cheesecake - pages of cheesecake selections, one toffee pudding type of dessert, which does not agree with what their website shows. When I declined to order dessert based on the lack of selection the waitress unenthusiastically mentioned "well, we have a brownie, too." Which leads me to my next issue - very indifferent service. The couple I went with had been once before and said they'd walked out after 20 minutes of waiting to even be acknowledged - but that was quite awhile ago and based on the fact that I'd heard very good reviews, they were willing to try again. Well, we were seated quicker, but considering it was us and one other table at the time the food was *very* slow in getting to us, and we didn't get any checkups from the waitress on how we were doing until we were finished and ready to go. Seeing Dan J's review I wonder if we didn't hit the restaurant on an 'off' day, but I do know the couple I was with aren't very enthusiastic about going back even with the good food because they've had two bad service experiences in a row. I guess my final recommendation is that the food itself is worth giving it a try, and that's what I'm going to give my four-star rating to. Service-wise, it'd end up with a 2, and decor-wise it'd get a 1. But based on the food I am going to give it another couple of tries and hope the service improves to where I can recommend it without hesitation.

Yelp
This place is dirty and uninviting. Don't know when they last cleaned out their grease trap. Famous for their "Mountain Burger"' it baffles me why people put up with greasy spoons like this place these days.

David K.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic restaurant...had steak sandwich which was beautifully seasoned came with two slices garlic bread, onion ring and really yummy fries. My wife had small portion little bites spaghetti and the meatballs were obviously homemade and delicious. The service was fantastic from Kim our server.... Very funny lady and very attentive with a great memory! Love this place!

Yelp
Crappy Food and Insulted my Twin 4 year old Boys!!! Went for dinner with my husband twin 4 year old twin boys and my parents. My father's piece of fish was so skinny there was almost no meat in the batter, waitress argued with us that it was long enough. Then my mother asked for more sauce as there was almost nothing on the burger, and a bowlful of lettuce in the burger instead. She kind of argued with us about that but brought more sauce. I have always been involved in customer service and where is the motto "The customer is always right?" My husbands burger was lousy. I shared my meal with my one son which was chicken fingers and fries. The chicken fingers were just the frozen type, nothing to write home about. Any time we tried to talk to the waitress to any of this, there was an attitude of "I'm right and your wrong". Then at the end she comes up to one of my twin sons and gives him a toy and freezy and nothing for the other boy. When I questioned why she would bring something for one and not the other she replied "oh, we have to charge extra then". My other son has a special diet and I always bring his supper with us and every other restaurant has never brought one toy or treat for one boy and not the other. I would never treat two children like that. What's the kicker I didn't even order a kids meal for either of them, just meals for the adults and shared with the other boy.
