We chose MSSM Ossington for our New Year’s celebration, and it was truly the perfect way to start the year. Every course was beautifully prepared with incredible attention to detail. The sushi was exceptionally fresh, well-balanced, and thoughtfully crafted — a true omakase experience. The service was outstanding. The chefs were warm, welcoming, and took the time to explain each piece, which made the entire meal feel personal and memorable. The atmosphere was comfortable, refined, and intimate — ideal for a special occasion with someone you love. Thank you to the chefs and the entire team for such a wonderful experience. We will absolutely be back and highly recommend this place to anyone looking for an exceptional omakase in Toronto.✨🍣

This was my second MSSM experience. These photos are from the Ossington location and it did not disappoint. The service was exceptional and the premium sake taster was perfect! We ordered some extra uni because they had received some special version. 10/10 highly recommend. I think when it was all said and done it was over $500 but it was a blast.

I had an amazing omakase experience at MSSM Ossington! Every dish was beautifully prepared and full of flavor. Our chef, Phil, truly made the night unforgettable — his attention to detail, creativity, and warm personality elevated the whole experience. You can tell he’s passionate about his craft. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an exceptional and intimate omakase experience in Toronto!

MSSM Ossington offers a modern omakase experience in a stylish, intimate setting. The presentation of dishes is simplistic, and the flow of the meal is well-paced. The fish is generally fresh, and some courses stand out for their creativity or seasonal uniqueness. That said, when factoring in the overall cost—typically exceeding $200 per person once drinks and optional add-ons are included—the experience may not meet expectations for everyone. While the quality of the sushi is good, it doesn't consistently reach the level of excellence seen at other omakase spots in this price range (especially compared to the US - places like New York). Similarly, the service is friendly and attentive, but not particularly exceptional given the premium you're paying. Overall, MSSM Ossington delivers a pleasant evening, but diners looking for a top-tier omakase experience might find the value proposition here to be more average than outstanding.

We came here for my birthday celebration. They were so nice and gave me a little gift. What a nice surprise! First time testing Omakase, I've watched many videos about this, so nothing was surprising. The food was good. It makes you really taste each sushi and the fish. The service was great. Our chef could be a bit louder.

We had quite the premium experience at this omakase spot. We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday, and it was absolutely lovely. Some of the add-ons were a bit pricey, but the overall experience was excellent. Our favorite was the sea urchin hand roll ($38 each) —it was melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Had an amazing night at MSSM Ossington. The vibe, the food, the music—everything just hit perfectly. But what really made the experience stand out was our server, Phil. Phil was the definition of top-tier hospitality. Super friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and genuinely knowledgeable about the menu. He gave great recommendations (all of which slapped), checked in at the right moments, and made sure we felt taken care of the entire night. You can tell he actually cares about the guest experience, which is rare. The cocktails were on point, the dishes were fresh and full of flavour, and the overall atmosphere felt upscale but still comfortable. Perfect spot for a date, a birthday, or just a quality night out. Huge shoutout to Phil for elevating the whole experience. I’ll definitely be back.

MSSM Ossington with Sushi Chef Ken provided an unforgettable dining experience. His captivating storytelling about the fish and its quality was both engaging and enlightening, adding a unique touch to the evening. The food was exceptional, and the atmosphere perfectly complemented the entire experience. I would definitely return, especially to relive the remarkable moments with Sushi Chef Ken. Highly recommended!

Yelp
The omakase menu is at each plate setting so you can follow along as the chef makes each roll. I noticed it wasn't regular sushi rice. Chef said it is marinated in the house spy sauce and rice vinegar. The little details such as roasted the seaweed for the rolls makes them taste even better. I loved each and every single roll! Chef recommends eating each roll within 10 seconds of it being put on the plate. My husband and I did order extras off the menu and enjoyed them as well. The interior design is very nice and seating is a a high top bar which gives you a close view of the chef working. The chefs are trained by Michelin Chef Masaki Saito. The bathrooms are located upstairs. I highly recommend MSSM for a great omakase experience. $98 CAD = $76 USD. What a great price point!

Yelp
I wish I had taken more photos of our wonderful meal tonight but I was more focused on catching up with my friends and keeping up with the food, I am borrowing a few photos my friend took for this review. We were a party of 8, some of us new to omakase and some of us more experienced, and I can honestly say that we all enjoyed our dinner at MSSM Ossington tonight. Since they did not have highball on the menu, we optrd for the saison biru and a sake flight (included 3 different sake cups) to accompany our meal. The omakase consisted of 12 course, many of them were well crafted nigiri (skip jack, hotate, aji, madai, zuke sake, toro, unagi, tamago, and a few others I can't recall) and included a very delicious dungeness crab chawanmushi which we we were told to have a few bites first and to save it for the addition of sushi rice and a bit of Wasabi, which turned it into a kind of Japanese style risotto. This was the first time I've had chawanmushi risotto thingy and I enjoyed it very much. The robust crab flavour was bomb. The fish included in the omakase, although not the most interesting, were all very good quality and the garnish and little additions to some courses like the lightly pickled radish in the hand roll and yuzu splash on some Nigiri elevated the flavours nicely. The omakase ended with a very well prepared miso and strawberry daifuku. Some of us opted to add seasonal uni to their omakase, and they said the uni was very fresh, having arrived from Hokkaido today. The overall experience here was fantastic, considering the price point and I would not hesitate to bring someone back to try out their omakase.

Yelp
*spoiler alert* If you want to be surprised by the chef, don't read below. We ordered both the yuzu sparkling and the ume (Japanese plum) sparkling drinks. Both are lightly sweet drinks that pair well with the fish. We started with a handroll. It was fragrant, good amount of wasabi to enhance flavors with a shiso leaf to enhance the umami. I found it to be a good mix of textures (pickled radish, soft rice, roasted nori). The appetizer was lean tuna, topped with Japanese onions. The fish was soft and fresh and nicely axcompanied with mild Japanese onions. Shima aji (striped jack)- was tender, brushed with soy sauce and a drop of lime to brighten the flavors. Buri belly (wild yellow tail)- rich and fatty without being too heavy. Reminiscent of toro but not as fatty. Hotate (Scallop)- sweet and tender. Soooo yum. Madai (seabream)- torched with chili radish on top, adds a nice char without cooking the fish. Zuke salon (Marinated salmon)- soft, delicious, classic Chawanmushi- Japanese steamed egg with dungeness crab mix with rice, yuzu and wasabi. This is so lovely and comforting. Akami- Lean blue fin tuna with yuzu Toro (bluefin tuna belly)- torched lightly, brushed with some soy sauce, perfect Anago (Sea eel)- wasabi yuzu, lime- salty, sweet, glitter citrus-y (not just served with eel sauce), which I enjoyed. Dashimaki with daikon oroshi- japanese egg omelette made with fish broth (this was so yum that we forgot to take photos) Finally we added an uni sushi from hokkaido. This has got to be my favourite. Overall a great omakase experience for the price. Everyone is really lovely and nice and very willing to answer all your questions. Definitely will be back!

Yelp
Came here yesterday to celebrate our anniversary and we loved it! It was our first time trying omakase and we were truly mesmerized by everything. Our chef was very kind and explained everything, he was a bit shy but we thought he did a great job handling everything. The waiters was always on top of everything, cleared our dishes quickly and constantly filled our water. We loved the whole menu and ending up ordered an 2 extra orders of Bonoto sushi. They also have a seasonal menu that you can try after the set menu they serve you. It is $100 per person as a base for the set menu. Then you can add on whatever you like at the end. Would definitely come again! You can request a chef as well when you book online. It's very cool as well because you sit in front of the chef while he makes and explains to you each piece you are getting. There aren't that many seats so I definitely recommend booking.

Yelp
The rice is overly sour, and the fish slices are so thin that they lack any discernible flavor. As a result, the sushi feels more like eating sour starch than enjoying fresh seafood. It is clearly a North American adaptation and far from authentic. Only the tuna belly meets the standard, while the rest are worse than the budget sushi found at Asian supermarkets. The worst one is the skipjack tuna (see the attached photo) with mustard sauce, which makes the sushi taste more like a hot dog. Good job chef, you just ruined a nice piece of tuna I would not recommend visiting this place at all. Moreover, the wine prices are unacceptably high. The cost of a single glass matches that of an entire bottle elsewhere.

Yelp
MSSM Ossington - leveraging the name of Masaki Saito to make a quick buck: From the moment we arrived, it was clear that the focus was on turnover rather than providing a memorable meal. The omakase menu, which I expected to be a showcase of culinary excellence, fell short in presentation with minimal interaction with the chef. Overall, this experience was a far cry from the high standards typically associated with a true omakase dining experience. There are many alternatives in the city with a better and more immersive dining experience. For example, they have a "rule" that you eat the food within 10 seconds of it being placed in front of you. All that was missing was a timer. They market this as part of the experience, when really it's part of their business model to get you in and out the door as soon as possible. Want a second drink? You'll have to wait until your next stop. Once you're seated, the host/server seems to consider that their job is complete until the next reservation arrives. Best part? They tell you the next reservation is here and for you to be on your way. A true disservice to the original.
