"On an island full of natural beauty, Mount Batur (or “Gunung Batur”) and its serene surroundings might be the most dramatic destination of all. The 5,600-foot volcanic marvel contains Bali’s largest crater lake—a splendid cycling site and slopes ripe for hiking with picturesque villages along the way. Hiking—or simply seeing—Mount Batur is an essential Bali to-do. Be vigilant about monitoring the news and local alerts about possible volcanic activity. If you want a better chance of reaching the peak without thick clouds obscuring the view, avoid the rainy season. The sunrise, as seen from the peak, is spectacular. Not for the faint of heart—or anyone who loathes early-morning wake-up calls—the ascent takes around two hours. But once you’ve reached the top, you might witness one of the most majestic mist-sheathed vistas you’ve ever seen." - Travis Levius

"What's this place all about? On an island full of natural beauty, Mount Batur (or “Gunung Batur”) and its serene surroundings might be the most dramatic destination of all. The 5,600-foot volcanic marvel contains Bali’s largest crater lake—a splendid cycling site and slopes ripe for hiking with picturesque villages along the way. Anything we should be sure to see? The sunrise, as seen from the peak, is spectacular. Not for the faint of heart—or anyone who loathes early-morning wake-up calls—the ascent takes around two hours. But once you’ve reached the top, you might witness one of the most majestic mist-sheathed vistas you’ve ever seen. Is it easy to navigate? You can trek the volcano alone, but the lack of signage means you’ll constantly have to ask for directions. We recommend booking a tour or hiring a local guide—just be sure to vet them. If trekking is too strenuous, head to one of the many traditional villages for volcanic panoramas. Why should we make the time for this? Amazing view, try to see the sunrise here. Serene! If you're lucky when the fog is abundant, it looks like a place above the cloud thing! Be sure to pack warm clothes but not too bulky. It's cold up here but as you're ascending and your body get heated up, even a t shirt would suffice. The path was slippery though, from the small pebbles and sands.

A very very rocky road up and down. Cloudy when we were there, can't see the egg york but lighting is very good. Managed lots of nice picture there. Lots of guides there will also help to take photos and teach you to post with their Jeep. Very good experience if you have not gone anyone before. Worth to try.

Really cool experience trekking up here early hours of the morning whilst it was still dark and fortunate to experience the most beautiful sun rise at the top. Not the hardest of treks, people of all ages and fitness levels did it and completed it, flash light provided by our guide and breakfast and snack was provided too. Loved it!

Booked through Klook and it was fuss free. The driver was punctual. It took 2hrs plus from Seminyak to reach Mt Batur. When we reached the place for us to change to a jeep, it was so cold at 4ish close to 5am. Rental of blankets was available at 50k/blanket. Strongly recommend to rent it as it was super duper cold when we went up. Thick and long sleeve shirt is recommended as well. The package came with breakfast and hot drinks! Sky was full of stars and sunrise view is mesmerising. There is a lookout point and with proper shoes, it is recommended to hike up. Toilet facility: available at 10k/pax.

Must do when you come Bali. We took the jeep to 1200m and continued to hike up the remaining 500m to the summit. Highly recommend summit even though you are physically unfit. Can also start the hike from the lake. Please wear proper hiking shoes. Not even running shoes because the soil is very loose. For people with no courage, poor core strength, no balance like me, descent might be tough. My Nike shoes made me slip 10000 times but luckily my guide caught me every time… highly recommend you to book them through klook. The highlight was the stars before the sunrise. The hike will start around 430am so it will still be very dark. Please remember to look up because the sky looks like Milky Way. Unfortunately, not even iPhone 14 Pro can capture this beauty so you got to see it for yourself. Especially for tourists from light polluted countries.

The views from the top are seriously otherworldly and well worth the hike. We were lucky to summit on a relatively clear day - there was a collective gasp when the sun broke the horizon. The hike up took about 90 minutes. There are some steeper sections with loose sand and rock, which were a bit challenging. I mostly didn't need to use my hands, but I had a hiking stick and good shoes that helped a lot with stability.

Nice but difficult hike in Bali. Specially because it starts at the middle of the night and you hardly can see, the day I went it was fully wet because it had rained….very difficult to do it…even we are young and usually go to the gym. On the top of it, the day we went, we couldn’t enjoy the sunrise because it was fully cloudy and foggy. Really recommend to check the perfect day to go to it…not so recommended, we didn’t enjoy the experience.

We are going there with Jeep. It is so nice. But you have to bring a sweater after sunset. It is quite cold.
