Climbing Mount Batur for the sunrise was one of the most amazing experiences I’ve had in Bali. We woke up at 3:30 AM and drove from the hotel to a meeting point, where we switched to a jeep for the adventurous ride up the mountain. The sunrise view was breathtaking — many tourists even sit on their car roofs just to watch the first light over the volcano.
It’s very cold in the early morning (even in summer), so be sure to bring a jacket, sweater, or shawl. The organizers also provide breakfast and hot tea, which was really nice. The cost was about IDR 200,000 per person (each jeep seats 4 people).
After the sunrise, we also visited Black Lava Gunung Batur Rest Area and the unique black lava fields. The volcanic rocks and dramatic landscape made the experience unforgettable.
Overall, Mount Batur is a must-visit adventure in Bali — the combination of sunrise, volcano views, and black lava makes it absolutely worth it.
