The Highest Places in America

"The highest point in Connecticut is on the southern shoulder of Mount Frissell which crosses the state’s northern border at 2,380 feet above sea level, but the official plaque was incorrectly placed on a different mountain. Less than two miles away westward, Bear Mountain was originally thought to be the state’s highest point. So sure were the original surveyors that a plaque was set in and a tower built to commemorate it in 1885. And while it is the highest summit in the state, a later survey, found Bear Mountain to actually be 57 feet lower than a site on Mount Frissell. A marker known to highpointers as “The Green Stake” was placed at the point, and is still a destination for hikers. The standard trail to the correctly-placed green stake weaves across the Connecticut-Massachusetts border and leads over the top of Round Mountain, with views of the Taconic Range along the way. Follow the red blazes in the trees to the Green Stake and the true highest ground in Connecticut." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Started from the Parking lot off Mt Washington Rd (East St in MA), then all the way up to the peak of Mt Frissell via Round Mountain, then to the highest point of Connecticut. I highly recommend to go a little bit further west from the state piont of NY, MA, and CT. The views there are so nice.

I was approaching Mount Frissell from Brace Mountain side via the South Taconic and Mount Frissell trail. On the NY side Mount Frissell trail is essentially not blazed but easily visible, If you try hard you will see some few very faded occasional red marks. ON the MA side the trail is well-marked. The Brace approach is essentially a spiral slope climb occasionally steep but nothing too challenging. Many Views on all sides - you can see many Catskills High Peaks to the west, and Mountain Greylock to the North on a good weather. Now, the descent from Frissell to Round Mountain reminds you that you do have knees :) - it is steep, rocky but again, it is not a scramble.

The summit of Mount Frissell is in Massachusetts, but less than a quarter mile away is the highest point of Connecticut. Been here twice. Pretty challenging for what appears to be a quick hike to a high point. Extremely steep right before the summit. Took a star away for lack of views from the summit in MA, but you get some views once you cross back into CT. Also just a stone's throw from the NY border and the tri-point marker. All in all, a nice walk.

Decent hike with nice views. I'd recommend continuing on to Brace and South Brace if you have extra time; the views from Brace are easily the best of the bunch but it's worth seeing them all.

Very steep hike but the view is so worth it! Loved it!

This was my first highpoint so I thought it was hard, the scrambling was hard but the view was amazing.
