I had a good stay at Mt Fuji Hostel Michael’s. The staff were very friendly and made check-in quick and easy, and they were always ready to help with questions about the area or transportation. It really felt like they cared about their guests. The location is quite convenient, around a 10-minute walk from the bus terminal, so it’s easy to reach even if you are carrying luggage. It’s located along the main road, which makes it easy to find and accessible for day trips around the area. The hostel itself is simple but clean and comfortable, with everything you need for a short stay near Mt. Fuji. The beds were fine, and there were lockers available for security. The common area had a cozy, casual vibe, making it easy to relax after a day out exploring. If you are looking for an affordable place with a welcoming atmosphere and a convenient location for visiting Mt. Fuji, this hostel is a solid choice.

The hostel is in a very good location for anyone planning to hike Mt Fuji, with easy access to transport and nearby amenities. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and provided detailed advice that helped me plan my hike smoothly. They speak fluent English and Japanese, which made communication easy and stress‑free. The main drawback is that luggage and personal belongings cannot be stored on‑site, which can be inconvenient if you’re travelling with large bags or arrive before check‑in. If you pack light, this won’t be an issue, but it’s worth keeping in mind when making arrangements.

A nice base to explore Mt Fuji out of - close to a 7-eleven and Selva supermarket. Clean rooms - a total of 3 dorms of ~10 beds each and 1 private room. Civil folks stay here. There are quite a few rules at this place, but they seem to work to keep the place tidy and comfortable for everyone. The check in hours are very strict, it is not possible to check in earlier than 10 am. There is a code you need to remember to get in after counter hours (sometimes closing at 6 pm). Train station (Gekkouji) is just a 5 min walk away, and it's easy to go to Chureito Pagoda on foot. Mt Fuji station is a 16 min hike uphill. Would prefer to stay here than Kawaguchiko

Cozy little hostel less than 5 min from the train station away, less than 20 min from the Shrine (for the Mt Fuji pictures). Important - make sure to arrive before 8pm, there are no check ins after that. I got a friendly welcoming and a quick guidance. On top of that super clean facilities (WC,Shower). It’s not so big as some other hostels, but it’s worth it. As soon as I’m back again, I will book this hostel without hesitation.

Brutal. The rooms are not remotely sound proof even in a private room. People were talking, girls laughing at full volume, rolling suitcases, Hair dryers …CONSTANTLY between 2:30-5:30am. Everytime it got even remotely quiet for 10 min someone else got up. There are quiet signs between the hours of midnight and 6am but no staff after 8pm to monitor anything. I got up at 4am to see what was going on and there were 4 people showering and making breakfast. I understand a bit of noise in a hostel but this was insane and I’ve stayed in alot of hostels. The staff was amazing at check in and attempted to help us choose some busses. Their English was perfect which was a bonus (obviously not expected as I don’t speak Japanese) but ultimately with that route it was very expensive. it was actually cheaper and direct to just taxi then all the train/bus schedules. so we changed plans anyways. The hotel cannot be blamed for guests lack of consideration but if you stay here you will not be getting any sleep and those 3h of buses the next day will be exhausting. Stayed here for the proximity to honcho street and the pagoda but I easily would have walked across town to avoid this. Also was unaware of the strong smell of the tatami mats. Thought it would be fine for a night but our activities today will be difficult on no sleep

Mt. Fuji Hostel Michael’s is a family-run hostel that is spotless and really cozy. The owners speak perfect English, so communication was easy. They were very helpful with signposting to relevant locations and giving tips for climbing Mt. Fuji. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay and would recommend it to anyone.

Hostel is located at a short walk from Gekkouji station, there is a grocery store and Daiso nearby, vending machine also right outside the hostel. Staff was extremely nice and welcoming, also very knowledgeable about Mt. Fuji if you plan on climbing it, they helped us with the different busses we had to take and have multiple timetables available. They have 2 dorm rooms that fit 10 people and 2 private rooms. During our stay the dorms had about 5 people at most. There is a communal fridge/toaster oven/ microwave/ water cooker available to use. Be sure to label your food when you put it in the fridge. There are also lockers that you can rent that fit a large backpack and then some! Facilities were all very clean and well maintained, they also offer a laundry service for ¥500 (washing and drying). Everything is also really well labeled and had an explanation in multiple languages!

Upon my arrival, I was greeted by friendly staff members. Even better, they allowed me to check in earlier, although it was not 3pm yet. I liked this place as the check-out was later than several places in Japan - 11am. WiFi was good. Toilets and bathrooms were clean. There were free coffee and tea. Staff members spoke excellent English. The beds were not really assuring of any privacy, but with the curtains, privacy was good. The weird part was the hanging out area was too near to the beds. Hence, forget about afternoon rest. The hostel is on the 2nd floor. Easy to find. It is near to Honcho 2, the place to snap iconic photos of Fuji, if it ever shows up. Oh ya, Fuji can be viewed from the hanging out area too. In the evening, guests were left on their own. There would be no staff members to assist us for anything. Even though the hanging out area was noisy when I was there, by evening, it was quiet. There was nothing to. Interrupt good sleep. But the room light was never turned off. Thank goodness I had my eye cover. When I came back the next morning, before checking out, the mood in the hostel was different. I think the owner was there, and he looked upset over something. It kinda kill the mood to hang around until checking out time. Moreover, the staff members were busy cleaning, there was no convenient place to sit and enjoy my free coffee. So, I checked out earlier.
