Mt. Okura Ski Jump Stadium (Ōkurayama-Schanze)

I visited a site that features a ski jump used in the Olympic Games. By purchasing a lift ticket, you can go up to near the top of the jump and look down over the structure. From there, you can also enjoy a view of the city of Sapporo, which is quite nice, especially on a clear day. Looking down from above, the height and steep angle of the jump are very clear, and it really makes you think about how incredible it is that athletes launch themselves from such a height and slope. Even without actually standing on the jump itself, simply viewing it from above is enough to convey the intensity of the sport and the skill of the athletes. As a sightseeing spot, it doesn’t require a long visit, and it works well as a place to stop by briefly while exploring Sapporo. For those interested in the Olympics or winter sports, it’s a worthwhile place to check out at least once.

This was an unexpected absolute thrill. Do yourself a favour and find time to visit this iconic ski stadium. The view from the top was breathtaking. We had the added bonus of seeing some skiers taking to the slope for ski jump practice - without snow. This is well worth the visit and very easy to navigate with train and bus from Sapporo. Just don’t miss the last bus at 4.30pm.

if you have never seen a ski jump place, gotta give it a try. You go up to the top by the ski lift which is fun. At the top, you can feel how high and steep the ski jump thing is. Also you can view the whole Sapporo City. You can grab beer, ice cream, tea, etc and enjoy the view. There is a Sapporo Olympic museum too. You can buy a ticket to see both at a discounted price.

Venue was fun and easy ride up to the top to have a good overview of Sapporo. Recommended to visit.

I was taking the creaky chairlift to the top of the Mt. Okura Ski Jump, the snow lightly falling on my lap, when I turned around and took a look at the city. One of the most beautiful views my retinas have ever been blessed to see. You get a vast view of the city from the top, the Sapporo skyline popping out like little legos out of the ground. I felt like I was in a snow globe. These kinds of views really have me pondering my place in the world and in the universe. What does it all really mean? There is a cafe at the top to get a coffee or some snacks, along with a direct view of the ski jump that hosted the Olympics back in 1972. You get the vantage point the skiers get when they are about to drop in. I got the heebie-jeebies just thinking about having to do that. I don’t want any of that smoke. They built different. One of the cooler experiences I’ve had in Sapporo, the views of the city are beautiful and the size of the ski jump is breath taking. Unfortunately the Olympic museum is closed until March 2023 for renovations. Absolutely worth the trip, we took a taxi because it would have been about double as long a trip from the hotel to actually arrive at the ski jump. The cafe had curry breads and meat pastries that were good, even if they were warmed in the microwave.

Really amazing and interesting. Great view at the top and coming down on the chair lift. You can walk up. There is a side track for people keen.
