Mudhumalai Forest Safari Bus Terminal

The safari experience is good, but the coordination at the bus terminal needs improvement. There’s usually a big rush, and no proper staff or guards to manage the crowd. Better organization and queue management would make the experience much smoother for visitors.

Always take government safari only and book it either online or through the national park check post counter.. Deer monkey, langoor, peacocks and bisons will be spoted on the road to ooty starting from bandipur itself and you need not to book any kinda safari for that and you can enjoy the view in your own vehicle or the hired vehicle. There are many private safari brokers who loot people, taking you to random village saying that animal will be spoted on those village roads. Specially if you have booked a local taxi, the driver will pursuade you to take private safari. So avoid these brokers and private safari persons. Nice forest safari. I really like that. Choose a jeep safari, it is exploring. That is an off-road safari The best time for wishing is evening time. That time you want to see more animals. I see a tiger, bull, deer, elephant, peacock, eagle, malav, forest pig, etc. the charge is applicable for per head 500.

This is actually near to the reception centre of the Mudumalai reserve forest at Theppakadu where the ticket counters for the safari / elephant camp are. The safari van and jeeps start from this place. The centre offers van safari at ₹340 per person and Jeep safari at ₹4200 per trip (for 6 people). Camera charges, parking charges are separate. The ticket counters and regulating the safari can be better managed. Could see chaos at the reception/counter. No separate counter for elephant camp ticket. No proper signage on what to do, where to go once you get the ticket. Wait times are based on luck. There’s a small canteen at the entrance selling food items, no proper restaurant. Public restrooms are at 200 meters away on the main road. There’s a souvenir shop too. The vans and jeeps can be better maintained for a comfortable ride. Drivers can be educated to act as guides and make it more educational for the public. Good thing with Govt Safari is, the drive is through core forest area, though it doesn’t guarantee sighting of animals. There’s a lot of things can be done to improve the safari experience of the people 🙏

V visited on weekday 6.30am slot. Elephant, bison,deer, bear, monkeys spotted... officials helped in animals view in travel. Moyar falls view is superb. Elephant feeding at the camp is good. Kids enjoyed much..

The safari in camper van was an amazing experience. Though we were not able to see any Tigers, my family thoroughly enjoyed the ride and the major attraction and a surprise was the majestic water fall, totally worth the 1 hr ride.

The drive through the reserve is beautiful. Book ahead online for the safari otherwise waiting time can be high as the officials will try and balance the vehicles available with the visitors walking in. Online booking gets first priority. Go for the earliest morning safari or late evening after 5pm, otherwise chances of seeing animals is rare. The gypsy ride through the forest was nice but we saw nothing more than deers, peacocks, monkeys and two camp elephants. There are multiple type of vehicles available to go on a safari, including closed tempo van that can carry about 15-20 people, for which the charges are least. There is a midsize jeep (type of van) that can carry about 10 people and is little more expensive. The open type Jeep/ Gypsy is the most expensive and can carry about 5-6 people and costs approx 1000/ person/hour. Children 5 and below ride free. All these can be shared with others if you are travelling with less number of people. As some of the other reviewers said, the animals we saw during the paid safari were the same animals we saw free from our car during the journey through the reserve.

Safari lasted about an hour but unfortunately we couldn’t spot any animals. The staff mentioned summer is better for sightings, and due to the rains it was very difficult to find wildlife. Parking was another big challenge – it’s very difficult to find space, especially on holidays. People should reach at least half an hour before safari time as it gets very crowded and vehicle movement is very slow.
