My wife and I visited Cave Hill Cemetery searching for her great grandparents burial plots. Before beginning that search, we saw a sign directing us to the grave of Muhammad Ali. I had visited the Muhammad Ali Cultural Center in Louisville the previous day and now, surprised, had a chance to pay my respects to the boxing legend ... and also a humantarian and a man of great courage.
Cave Hill Cemetery is nearly 300 acres with125,000 graves. Ali's grave is as special as the man. The grave sits on a slope, surrounded by towering hardwoods, holly, and mix of vibrant floweing shrubs and flowers. Visitors can park roadside. There are several stone steps to the grave that require some degree of caution. Ali's family visit regularly. We were told by Chris, a very helpful security guard, that we had just missed Ali's wife. Rest in peace, Champ.
