13 Places That Honor Sporting Legends

"Aptly nicknamed “The Greatest,” boxing heavyweight champion, humanitarian, philanthropist, and civil rights leader Muhammad Ali was born in Louisville, Kentucky. He was buried in the city’s historic Cave Hill Cemetery. The site contains two granite benches where visitors can sit and reflect on the greatness of Ali. The boxing legend was buried on his side, facing east in accordance to his Islamic faith. The memorial’s inscription reads: “He took a few cups of love, he took one tablespoon of patience, one teaspoon of generosity, one pint of kindness. He took one quart of laughter, one pinch of concern, and then he mixed willingness with happiness, he added lots of faith and he stirred it up well. Then he spread it over a span of a lifetime and he served to each and every person he met.”" - ATLAS_OBSCURA

Google
My wife and I visited Cave Hill Cemetery searching for her great grandparents burial plots. Before beginning that search, we saw a sign directing us to the grave of Muhammad Ali. I had visited the Muhammad Ali Cultural Center in Louisville the previous day and now, surprised, had a chance to pay my respects to the boxing legend ... and also a humantarian and a man of great courage. Cave Hill Cemetery is nearly 300 acres with125,000 graves. Ali's grave is as special as the man. The grave sits on a slope, surrounded by towering hardwoods, holly, and mix of vibrant floweing shrubs and flowers. Visitors can park roadside. There are several stone steps to the grave that require some degree of caution. Ali's family visit regularly. We were told by Chris, a very helpful security guard, that we had just missed Ali's wife. Rest in peace, Champ.

I was in Louisville for a funeral and decided to visit the grave of the Great Mohamed Ali Clay. It has a nice surrounding, and the grave is well maintained and the flowers were blooming and the grass was well cut and green.

Google
It feels a bit odd to be rating someone's grave, but Maps asked me to and frankly it was a neat experience to see where the greatest boxer of all time was buried and thank him for the memories. Google maps will take you very close to the correct point, but at the bottom of the hill. I will see if I can add a correction for that. It is a beautiful cemetery and Mr. Ali's spot is very solemn with beautiful flowers.

Google
Beautiful cemetery, nice grave setting for the Olympic light-heavyqeight and 3 time Heavyweight Boxing Champion. Easy to find and on a corner allowing you to come to it from two different directions. Comes with marble benches to sit and reflect. When we were there there was small butterfly and bee flags planted out front of his grave.

We went to find his grave, there were no pamphlets in the boxes. Needless to say we couldn’t find the grave. The cemetery was very pretty, and well kept. We did see some very interesting headstones. Mr. Magic was one that was super unique.

Yelp
The grave of Muhammad Ali is quite possible the most notable grave in this cemetery. It is a beautifully landscaped grave that welcomes anyone that wishes to visit and pay their respects. There are steps that will lead you to the grave, and please be mindful to stay on the steps and not walk in the landscaped area surrounding them. Also be respectful of the time you take here in case there is anyone else that wants to view. The site contains a slab that is engraved, two areas that look like they are for seating, and I'm sure is graved with many flowers throughout the year. A fitting resting place for the greatest.

Yelp
Grace of legendary boxer and humanitarian Muhammad Ali located in historic cave hill cemetery in Lousiville Kentucky. Before Ali passing cave hill was known for its historical and famous headstones and resting places for the famous. A little bit of extra greatness was added to the central when Ali passed in 2016. The cemetery has markings to lead you to the famous graves and have done so with Ali grave as well. Overall a way for Louisville residents and fans from all over the world to form Visit arguably the greatest boxer and athlete of all time.
