51 Best Airbnbs in California (2023) | Condé Nast Traveler

"A 30-minute drive from downtown San Francisco, at the base of Muir Woods National Monument, this is the ultimate city dweller's escape, with tons of day-hike paths and towering redwoods just outside the front door. Inside, the four-bedroom home feels like a spa, with natural wood paneling, white-washed walls, and plants around every turn." - Meredith Carey,Garrick Ramirez

We stayed here a couple nights. Once in the king bed and one in the double bed. King bed room was very clean. A little small but nice. The double bed room was not very clean. Lots of dust and the bathroom floor needs deep cleaning. Also the light in there barely works so it was kind of dark. The AC unit made a very loud noise so we slept in a warm room but I brought my fan from home so that helped. When I checked out the first time there were no problems. The second time however, I gave her the key back and started walking away and she called after me saying that my credit card is declining. I asked what she is trying to bill and she said for the room. I looked at her confused and said I already paid when I booked it online. She said she didn’t see it so pulled up my bank and showed her the charge. I willingly gave her my phone number in case there was an issue but knowing that if I had the money on my card, she would’ve charge me twice. Thankfully I only put money on that card when I do the transaction and I do it for this exact reason. Otherwise, decent place to stay if you just need a place to sleep and shower.

Amazing location and great value! We’ve stayed at this hotel/motel three times already this July, and we’ll definitely be coming back again. The location is perfect — just 8 minutes from San Francisco, and super close to walking trails, gas stations, stores, and restaurants. The place is always clean, the price is great, and there’s plenty of free parking, which is a huge plus. Highly recommended!

On 7/13/25 - We arrived late the day of our 1 night stay, as we were traveling around Northern & Central California. The room, #109, was hot, dirty, and had this perfume smell to it. The AC had made a loud, squeal-like noise and had to turn it off. We took our showers, only to find hair on the towels. When I went to bed, I found the source of the smell. It was perfume, like the bedding was used and unwashed! There was also hair in my bed, it wad such a GROSS EXPERIENCE!!! I couldn't sleep because I kept smelling someone else's perfume. We had booked our reservation through Expedia and it says there is free breakfast, but there was nothing available but a coffee machine. I told the woman at checkout how I was disappointed in my stay and all the problems with the room, but she just looked at me and didn't really acknowledge what I was saying. This seems to be a family owned business, they live behind/next the property. They are not very professional. My family and I will never stay here again!!

Room 121...Value? No...!!! It's SKETCHY. And filthy. I'm here in bed right now...everything is worn out, shower head was loose, spraying the ceiling, dirty, everywhere. It's yuck. TV simply is too big of hassle to even learn how to use the two useless remotes, refrigerator is GROSS, the desk, cabinetry, is beat to heck. The lady at the reception came out with stuff all over her face, like she was giving herself a facial...the man was not rude, but came out and had me wait for the lady. She asked if we had a dog...yes, We have a "Labrador Retriever." "Oh, with a large dog, that's $169.00/night. "What? That's $40 for a dog, that's crazy."she insisted "Everyone charges that." I countered, "No, not everyone...its Saturday evening, 7:30PM, I will keep looking." She relented for only $20 for the dog. Ok...so the $167 with tax is a value...BUT is it? This place is disgusting 🫣 DIRTY. It tells me a lot about the owners/managers family who live here.and their standards. It needs a 100% remodel. Bed seems ok...but I haven't slept in it just yet so...??? Air Conditioner works, The VALUE is a HIGHLY GROSS!!! Ok...next morning...bed is tilted to the left. The guests upstairs returned at 3:30AM...They were LOUD...NOISY...I wear earplugs but they still woke us both up. Upstairs floor joists are minimal Code for like 1965 era. Tear this place down is what it needs...OH, the owners drive a brand new MERCEDES E car...sweet...THEY DONT DESERVE WHAT THIS COUNTRY OFFERS...Waste, Fraud, and Abuse!!! I posted pictures of the dirty walls, floor and grossness, I come back and they are gone, so...I would not stay here ever again.

We came to our room on the first floor (Room 111) and we were actually blown away by the size and space. It’s quite simple and cute. I come to this area often and was convinced I found a place I can stay regularly. The bathroom is extremely small but again simple room. No frills. I am not sure I’d stay here again though after the experience tonight. We’ve had someone above us walking around constantly and it is incredibly loud. We can’t sleep. The noise is awful. I’d say next time get a second floor room but I’d feel terrible doing this to someone below me. This person above our room hasn’t stopped moving and is banging stuff around after 11pm. It’s almost like they’ve been moving furniture and are in hiking boots the walking is so pronounced. Impossible to sleep. We also were very grossed out by the fridge. It hasn’t been cleaned out at all. When stuff like that looks this way it makes you wonder if everything else is being cleaned properly. I guess if you’re looking for a somewhat budget friendly hotel and can sleep like the dead this may be a fit for you. But being in town for an important event tomorrow and needing to actually sleep it’s just not worth it to me due to the noise. Thin walls and thin hardwood floors unfortunately.

Google
Hotel staff was kind, but the rooms are pretty dirty. Lots of dust on the walls and furniture with some odd substances on the door that was missed. The shower was fairly cold and the sink faucet was broken. They no longer serve breakfast and the cleaners showed up around an awkward 5pm. Great location and the grounds looked well kept. Decent stay marred by wierd.

Excellent stay, Rosie helped us check in. Super nice and we can’t say enough about the location. Flood Water across the street was also a wonderful time. Thank you!

Google
Nice inexpensive motel near Muir Woods, Sausalito and Mill Valley. Older building tho clean, nicely furnished and landscaped. Next to busy intersections tho back side is quieter.

Yelp
If you are looking for a place to crash for the night, then Muir Woods Lodge will do the job. Don't expect much in regards to service or amenities though. We checked in at about 8:00pm. We were met by a lady who came from the back who basically handed over the key and said "Room 214". She did not say anything else and was clearly trying to rush me out of there. The room was OK, pretty standard Seems as it was updated recently. They supposedly have a coffee/tea in the lobby, but it was all cleaned out, and the coffee machine was broken. If you are looking for more in regards to amenities, etc, you might want to go somewhere else.

Yelp
Wow, beware, the woman who runs this place is shockingly rude and manipulative. I booked my room through booking.com. I called her to see if I could book it directly from the hotel for the same price. She looked at my booking through booking.com and said yes, for same room, same price, all I had to do was cancel my reservation on booking.com and call her back at the hotel. I double and tripled checked the price and room and she was consistent about it. I cancelled my reservation at booking.com and called back and she wanted to charge me a lot more for a different, more expensive room. She said the price I'd gotten on Booking.com was no longer available. She said she had never agreed to give me the same room/same price. When I told her I could email her my prior reservation with the specific room reserved, and the price it was reserved for, she started yelling at me. I actually am glad I realized this before I arrived - I would never want to stay at her hotel and experience further rudeness and dishonesty. I don't recommend going here and having to deal with her. I actually ended up with a different hotel close by that was a tad cheaper and the person I spoke to at that other hotel was super nice.

Yelp
Everything about this place is a dump. From the mini fridge with a missing leg, and an ice crusted freezer with no door. The faucet spurting water in the wrong direction, a shower with zero pressure (couldn't wash my hair), no screens on the windows, so you have to be woken by the loud a/c every 20 minutes. The place was depressing. We checked out a day early.

Yelp
If I could give it zero stars I would but you have to unfortunately give it at least one star. This place is an absolute hell hole do not stay here. I checked in about 4am I just got off of work. This room was booked for us by our company. When I checked in the lady up front gave me my room key and said "if there is anything wrong with your room I'll switch you in the morning" so I ask her "what's wrong with the room?" And she said "nothing" well now I know why she said that. From mold to cockroaches and stains everywhere to holes on the sheets and anything you can honestly think of. There was smashed cockroaches all over the microwave even on the inside. I left as soon as I seen all this. I don't understand how these places are even open. They need to be shut down this is disgusting. If they allow all of that to be shown I don't even wanna know what else they do. Probably not even wash the sheets cause they don't clean anything else. I'm glad I left. But for real DO NOT STAY HERE. You might catch something here. Do not waste your money. You are close to so much more stuff make the drive and find something better.

Yelp
I just needed something for the night because I was attending a conference on the weekend. They told me they gave me the best room and I wanted to believe it. Let's say this is one of the worst place I've stayed at and I can say I didn't get any bed bugs though I was afraid to check and ruin my evening. So I didn't bother checking. The wall had a hole in it, the sink had been shifted/needed caulking and the mirror edges had a tape on it. I was only concerned about the management complaining about me causing those issues so I cleared them out. I later noticed the same damages from the pictures that were previously posted by other yelp members. So I felt more at ease that I wouldn't be blamed for the existing damages. Anyhow, there are some good things. The place was OK-clean? Parking was safe for my car and location was good to many popular spots like the Golden Gate Bridge and Downtown Sausalito. There was filtered water in the office so bring a bottle to refill. I still think this place should've been half of what I paid but I guess they are trying to get the most out of what they can.

Yelp
A friend happened to be visiting the area and got a room at this place and I happen to live in San Francisco so he offered the second bed in the room so I wouldn't have to cross the bridge after we did our day tours in the area. I'm a casual traveler and drive to a lot of places in California and I was pleasantly surprised at how well maintained this place was. It was clean, rooms were updated and the bedding was more than satisfactory. For convenience, this place is right off Highway 101, so if you're passing through this town and need an overnight place, this place is ideal. It is also near Sausalito and is right in Mill Valley, so it's close to essential shops, businesses and there are tons of restaurants nearby. This place is pretty awesome for a roadside motel.

Yelp
Location is amazing ! Our check in was 20 seconds! The price was super duper great! The room is spacious and mostly clean. Air works very good. The location is literally just past the Golden Gate Bridge ! The restaurant across the street is fantastic and then we went to Muir Woods monument (7 miles away) and on the drive there was an amazing spot to see all of San Francisco! Crazy cool !

Yelp
Great place. Clean. Nice owners and staff. Close to shops and food. Safe place. I'd come back again.

Yelp
If you don't mind roaches then this is the perfect place as the roaches where out and about. We would have canceled sooner, had we seen them during the day but these little guys decided to make their grand appearance after hours. Started packing our bags ASAP for the fear they'd make their way home with us. Was too afraid to check for bed bugs, luckily we didn't wake up with visible bits. Besides the roaches the rooms themselves are in terrible shape. We ended up canceling the remainder of our days. This did put a damper on our schedule but luckily Hotels.Com was able to assist us and move us to a clean hotel.

Yelp
I normally don't write reviews especially bad ones. But this one I definitely had to. I checked into this hotel for one night as I was there on business. Had it not been late and I wasn't exhausted I would have left immediately. However I didn't have that opportunity. I know others had an okay experience, however the room that I got was horrible! Again, I don't normally complain but this was just gross! I would suggest staying somewhere else ! If you don't have a choice , check out the room prior to checking into it!!! I will NOT stay there again.

Yelp
ZERO STARS ~ 1 is TOO GOOD B E W A R E of this nasty place. IF you DO have to stay, check.your room IMMEDIATELY ~ Ice Bucket, Fridge, Sheets and Bathroom. My photos will let you know the MOST ~ as Pictures tell stories. 1st I phoned this motel DIRECTLY for my reservation but they sent me a text to 'click this link for your confirmation' 1ST MISTAKE. Upon check.in, I needed a business receipt She says Oh No it's prepaid. And tells me I used Expedia. I DID NOT. The text they sent me took me to HOTEL PLANNER. After noise problems and ALL this nastiness in the room ~ I phoned them w my problems. They have ZERO SOLUTIONS and sent my issues to their escalation dept. which will take 24-48 hrs THE SAME AS THE CANCELATION POLICY!!! They said they spoke to the front desk and Owners said No we won't let you cancel. I went to the front desk and let them know 1) I was NOT happy 2) I will leave at 11am in the morning and you will NOT charge me for the 2nd nite of the reservation. It happened HOWEVER still waiting to hear if this is going to be credited for 1 nite. Scam Sham of a motel and Hotel.Planner is even worse. The staff is RUDE,NEGATIVE and told me NONE of my problems existed ~ INCLUDING ~ THERE WAS NO NOISE COMING FROM THE ROOM ABOVE ME. Nobody Cares! There was blood on the bottom sheet on the corner by the nite stand. Again the Owners tried to tell me NONE of this happened. Run as fast as you can to.the Holiday Inn

Yelp
On a recent trip through the area I was just looking for a place to pull off for the night and stumbled upon this cool old school motel which is being renovated and newly upgraded rooms. This motel literally sits at the intersection of the 101 and 1 exchange on the southwest side of the highway. Road noise is definitely an issue if you're a light sleeper, it did subside after about 10 pm but was a constant muffled rumble in the background. This does also make for easy on and off while traveling though and for my purposes it was a good rest and a decent spot to start my next morning with. This is a good option for the area and inexpensive for the area - this is a mom and pop motel and not a fancy chain. Better than some and not as good as others. A good 3 Star motel 00639

Kathy B.

Yelp
terrible. worst shower ever. no soap available and no coffee in room. Fan and heater are noisy. Toilet valve runs. Find something else .

Eunice B.

Yelp
As we stopped by the door of the office a woman comes out and says, "yeah what you want". This was not the welcome we had hoped. We said we were checking in and she proceeds to check us in, but doesn't check ID or greet us or just look us in the face. Also the front area desk smelled of strong food. The following morning, we started to get ready only to find out there was no water!! Seriously? When we tried to call to ask when it would be fixed they said it would be after the check out time. Again terrible customer service, and when we asked for any solution or reimbursement she basically hung up! We went to the front desk and she said I can give you 20% back. However she gave us $20 in cash which is definitely less than 20%. She was at least finally apologetic since we had no water all day but still not great! Pay the extra to stay at another location.

Yelp
It's ok. Nothing great. Decently priced and close to Muir Woods and San Francisco (about 20 min away from downtown SF). Our room was decently cleaned. The wall behind the nightstands had patched areas which needed to be painted. The location is conveniently located off 101. My biggest complaint is that my 18 mo old got bit by a spider. This is not necessarily the hotel's fault BUT they should look into getting their rooms sprayed.
google avatar

Nancy G.

Yelp
I had a great 2 night stay there. The room was comfortable and clean. The location was perfect for visiting San Francisco and Sausalito or heading to many of the hiking trails and beaches nearby. I've stayed there before and will return again.

Adam A.

Yelp
If I weren't in such a hurry I would have demanded a partial refund. Mild rain this night, but the ceiling leaked like crazy (see pics). The sink drained very, very slowly; gross. TV did not work at all. Shower head was installed at about 5' 5", not standard and not ideal for my 6' (but that was the least of my complaints). Coffee maker and most supplies where there, but no coffee pot. As the cheapest hotel near Sausalito I expected a bare minimum accommodation and noisy, smoking neighbors (which of course I got), but not a flooding floor. The only plus is the family running the place was reasonably friendly and did honor the price quoted over the phone, which seems to be an anomaly based on other Yelp reviews. If you're passing through and desperate for the cheapest bed, toilet, and shower in the area, go ahead and take your chances. Next time, I'll suck it up and pay the extra 50-100 to stay at the Holiday Inn across the street (much, much better; I've been there before).

Yelp
The lodge is more like a motel with two levels and parking in front of the rooms. We arrived late and the gentleman who was to check me in (behind glass like at a bank) did not speak at all - just pushed a signature pad toward me and said, "upstairs 2XX". The lobby smelled like food. The room was clean but very basic and you could hear every sound from the adjoining room (with children). The bed was ok for comfort. Everything worked and the shower pressure was great. We left early and dropped the keys through a slit in the "drive thru" window and the host came out to look suspiciously at us. There was signage everywhere to secure your personal items and use deadbolts - so didn't feel safe. Would look for something else next time - because of safety and suspicious treatment of host.

Yelp
This company steals from its customers. Do not use them! I am a local and made a reservation for a few days for guests. The lady at the front desk said that I could cancel the reservation if need be, which I did, later that day, or the next day, with plenty of time before the reservation over the weekend. They charged my credit card $577.92 and did not send me an official cancellation - therefore it is clear that this was a set up and this company steals from its patrons. Very dishonest. Horrible experience. She could not find the reservation when I called back and refused to help me because she said the reservation was too old for them to go back. In this day of computers, this is a blatant lie. This was a set up from the beginning. Bad, very bad customer service!

Yelp
Nice place to stay. There were a few stains on the sheets, but overall very clean. Bathroom is a bit tight & small, but sufficient for 1-2 people. Rosie is the best!! So friendly and accommodating!! She greeted us with a big smile and excellent customer service. We had a double queen room facing the street on the corner (Room 208). Very nice view and loved the hardwood floors, much better than carpet. Rooms are updated. Only con is the trashcan at the bottom of the stairs was full to the brim as well as the linen bin, the full 24 hours we stayed. Should have been emptied in my opinion. Also, the bath towels are too small & very worn thin-need new ones!! Otherwise, great location!!

Yelp
My family and I traveled from Illinois to California we stayed in Los Angeles and stayed in Santa Cruz and we stayed Muir Woods Lodge all three places were very comparable in price but the place I felt the safest was in Muir Wood, around enough places To satisfy my children as far as eating in entertainment went. Rosie was our host and she made sure we had everything we needed for a good night stay in a Motel. This is a family owned operation and I was very humbled in the way her children and everyone work together to keep this place running :) If I'm ever back in Mill Valley area I would definitely stay with Rosie again

julie l.

Yelp
We were on a longer trip and chose this place because it was close to the redwoods and it had a ok rating with hotels. Well it was close to the redwoods but that was all! It was chilly and That night and I pulled the blankets up around my neck when I fell asleep. When I woke up I realized I had slept with this around my face all night. ( this is a calm picture, there was so much can I say the word on here ) cum - So gross I went to the front desk and told them and they became angry at me. I told them I was a healthcare professional and this was unacceptable especially in a pandemic that they don't clean and wash their linens.

Yelp
Really great price , my father who was ill needed to stay for a few weeks and the owners and staff where reliable Room was clean and location was great ,

Jane M.

Yelp
Im giving this three stars because it was appropriately priced for the area, but it kind of deserves two based on the fact that Im almost positive they didnt clean it. Nothing some of those bleach wipes cant cure

Yelp
If I would have to rate the customer service it would be a -1, when I arrived the woman checking me in was beyond rude. They had to call me back to the office three times because their machine didn't work! When I came into the office the final time she basically accused me of smoking in the room and I had been there maybe 10 minutes with my three kids and husband for no reason, I continued to tell her I don't smoke and I would never allow smoke around my kids, she did not apologize she just said "there's a 400 fee for smoking in rooms". We finally get into the room, it smells terrible, the floors are dirty, the beds are so uncomfortable, I could go on, there was a used toilet roll on top of the toilet, the water is Luke warm for my kids bath and there was black and curly hair in the bathtub. The towels were so rough and they didn't even give us washcloths and there was only two body towels for a family of 5! The chairs in the room are stained, the fridge didn't even work and the bathtub didn't drain. Honestly, just spend the extra money at the holiday inn across the street because this place is an absolute mess and the customer service is terrible.

Jake H.

Yelp
Very easy to check in, clean rooms, modernized and comfortable, I'd recommend to family and friends

Yelp
The staff was unfriendly and seemed like it was a bother to serve customers. Every time I came to the front desk they were in the back. When i asked for an extra blanket because it was cold in the room, the woman at the desk said "everything's locked up" as if they didn't have the keys. She also said it was too late. It was 8pm. The woman then managed to find a a thin quilt for us to use. When we got to the room we could see it had a blood stain on it and was soiled in another area. When I checked out a scowling old woman came out and muttered "Room number?" and then motioned for me to put the key card on the desk. The heater in the room was loud turning on and off throughout the night. Every time it shut off there was a loud whine that was something between an alien space ship landing and a whine of a tortured dog. With lack of sleep from the noisy heater, we were glad to leave in the morning.

Yelp
Staff was great had on the spot check fast and easy. Women at front desk was nice and made me feel at home. Room looked updated and clean with all the amenities needed iron, coffee maker, fridge and microwave. Would definitely return!

Yelp
This place is hidden just outside Muir Woods. Close to everything! 20 min drive to Stinson Beach, 25 min drive to Pier 39. Room was amazingly clean, bed was super comfortable. Good tv, great service. Don't be fooled by the low stars, this place deserves much more. I wish I had snapped some pictures, but I don't usually review. Even for being near a busy street and hwy 1 it was very quiet. Great way to relax after our beach adventure.

Yelp
Have you ever seen Schitts Creek? This is literally it! The workers literally live in the rooms! Thats just the start! Soooo.. we check in and I go to take a rinse... turn on shower.. turn it to hot... wait for a minute or so... water still cold. Figured, okay maybe the water heater takes a bit too heat up. Wait a couple more minutes, barely lukewarm. I literally froze my butt off taking the quickest shower ever! Strike one.... no hot water. Then I go to lay down to rest... pull back covers.... and... ewwww!!! What the hell is that on my comforter? Yuck! Ill be sleeping on the brown bed cover sheet tonight ! As I began exploring more I find what look like urine stains on the mattress! Who owns this dump?! No wonder it's Unclaimed on Yelp. This will be my first and last stay at Schitts Creek! Moooooira! Im so glad I am only here for the night.... I think I hear people getting it on next door!! 3a.m. and I can't wait to leave. This place is making me rethink this whole road trip... I might cancel my evening in Monterey tomorrow and head back home where I know its actually clean!

Mathew J.

Yelp
This hotel is dirty. The beds appear clean on the outside, but are old with stains. The family who runs this dump do not treat you with respect when given a complaint. They become combative and absolutely to not act like the customer is right, they are pompous and condescending. I would warn people to book any hotel other than this one.

Jeff S.

Yelp
If I could give this place a negative rating I would. My son wasn't feeling well and checked into the hotel paying 2 weeks in advance to get a discounted rate. Two days later my son passed away. When I came to collect his belonging a couple of days after that, not only had they already cleaned out his room and put his belongings in the carport, they wouldn't refund any of the advance payment considering the circumstances. Cruel and heartless are just a couple of terms that come to mind to describe Muir Woods Lodge management.

Cody L.

Yelp
Where do I begin, the lady at the front office is extremely unprofessional and rude, we get checked into our room it's filthy from previous people and 2 of the other people staying in our room have bed bug bites all over from their unsanitary filthy rooms. For anyone looking into this place please do yourself a favor and book another hotel because you'll regret it....we gave this place a chance even though some reviews were bad and I wish we would have listened to it.

Florence M.

Yelp
This couple should not be in business!!!! If I could give a 0 or -1 I would. It was the only place in town left so I was grateful....at first. The woman who showed me the room was nice enough but she kept saying, "now no complaining, right?" I had no intention of complaining but I thought it was an odd question. When I realized the light in the bathroom didn't turn on I went to the office and the man comes out from the back. He tells me to F%&* off!!!! He gives me a key to another room other than a light bulb and tells me not to bother him again!!!!!!!

Yelp
Stayed here a few years ago and from the looks of the "new" rooms not much improvement. This was the grossest worst motel I have ever stayed in and I have stayed in a lot. The reason I remember this one so vividly is the 2 nights we stayed it rained outside and the entire property flooded. The linens which are washed outside in a little shack were filthy To begin with but even worse with the rain pouring in them. This is family owned and ran. They live in a room connected to the office and have young kids that roam around the property. Just failed health inspection. No amenities, loud from street noise, dirty, overpriced, not one good thing I can think of. Would rather sleep in my car. Across the street is a holiday inn express I have stayed at many times and would highly recommend staying there instead. All I can say is you have been warned.

Yelp
Already booked hotel. Called one hour before and that we were coming late and she said they are open and it's fine. We get here and there is no one there and we sat waiting a hour before booking another hotel.

Yelp
Friendly and accomodating staff. Recently remodeled rooms with comfortable beds. Convenient location along Highway 101. Hardwood floors are a plus! Exterior and interior well maintained and convenient, easy parking right outside our room. Prices were resonable and the nice lady who checked us in gave us the Friday rate for Saturday, which would have been higher. Absolutely nothing to complain about. Very clean. Bonus: pretty roses growing right outside our window. We will definitely stay here again.

Yelp
Well, this is sad... we have stayed here regularly for two years for work, always bringing our dog- we have a small business in Mill Valley and we come up from Carmel and our dog travels with us for work. We stay here because it's cheap and convenient. A family of about 30 people live on the property in the back building and in several of the rooms on the back of the hotel. We have gotten to know the family and grandma and all of the kids a bit. The rooms were remodeled probably 10 years ago, and are in need of some work- lots of stuff is broken or doesn't work properly, faucets are coming loose from the sinks, shower heads are often broken, sinks are clogged, some mattresses need replacing- the box springs are broken on many beds. Minor things- some rooms are much better than others. We have stayed in just about every room here. They are not super clean, we have found bugs on occasion- near the ceiling and in the bathroom sink. But the beds are always clean and sheets are clean. Sometimes there is a super strong odor from chemicals. Walls need painting. It's the cheapest hotel in the area, so we stay because it works with our budget. We never complain, even when less than desirables check in and make lots of noise. You get a lot of less than desirables staying here. Tonight we showed up as usual, we had prepaid online. When we get to the hotel they asked if we have a dog and we said yes and they then said we have to pay $40 extra- a new policy. They have never charged us extra in all the times we have stayed. This fee is not stated on their site. I would get it if this was a high end hotel, but they have tile floors and no bed comforters- just sheets. Just like motel 6, but not as nice. And they have never charged us before- they know us, we stay all of the time, never with any issues. Our dog is very well behaved and super clean. What was the most insulting is we have been loyal customers for two years and felt we had a good relationship with the family. So this is just not ok. This isn't how you treat people. I spent 20 minutes on the phone with hotels.com and finally got a refund and now I am heading off to find other accommodations for me and my pup.

Yelp
Great location! Great service! Great renovated rooms. Great price for the Bay Area. Easy access by car to Sausalito, SF, Muir Woods and Stinson Beach. Would stay here again.

Yelp
Filthy! After taking a shower and walking on the floor (no carpet in the room), my feet were black! BLACK! My feet were black on the bottom. The floor was dirty. How hard is it to mop a floor between guests? There was an odor in the room too. We cleaned the filters in the air conditioner, turned the fan on, left the door open to air out the room and washed the floor. That helped. There aren't any holders for bath towels, only hooks. I was so creeped that I inspected for bedbugs, and found about a ten (10) or so bedbug traps on the floor beneath the headboards in the room. Fortunately, they were clear, or I would have immediately checked out and asked for a refund. Just needed a night to sleep. The bed was comfortable, but I slept nervously. Note: When you paint a wall, paint the whole wall - top to bottom! The walls were painted from the floor to about 6 feet up, leaving the approximately top 2-feet a different color. When checking out, the person at reception asked if I would leave a good review. I explained that the floors were dirty and she tried to make excuses. There's no excuse for dirty floors!! Way over priced.

Yelp
This was a quality stay for a bargain price. Very adorable rooms, comfortable beds, and so close to San Francisco. Literally 2 miles to breathtaking hiking spots, and very courteous and helpful staff who ensured our stay was the best possible!

Yelp
Uhhh. Not good. Weird bugs. Weird service. I wanted it to be good, but it just wasn't clean enough to be able to sleep relaxed. Kinda stressful haha.

Yelp
We had a wonderful stay. The owner accommodated us last minute with a lovely room and kind hospitality. The other guests were nice and courteous. It was in a super convenient location with downtown Mill Valley only minutes away. We have stayed there in the past were happy to be able to return.

Yelp
I wish I could give negative stars. This is the worst experience I have EVER HAD. Personal property was stolen while we were out. And THEN... The sheets had what appeared to be blood and urine stains on them. I took photos of this as soon as I found them, I brought them to the front desk and they had the audacity to tell me that I made the stains myself. The staff is absolutely disrespectful. I've stayed at a lot of shitty places in my life, and this is BY far the shittiest place IVE EVER BEEN TO. DO NOT STAY HERE

Yelp
Very nice motel for the cost. It is basic accommodations but very clean and well maintained. Convenient location close to freeway, hiking, restaurants, and a few miles from the Golden Gate Bridge.

Yelp
Been there twice now Rosie checked my girlfriend and myself in early around 12 most places won't until 3pm they have a very friendly staff , takes cash , allows pets, always responsive and available. Not the fanciest hotel but always clean and cozy rooms , wood floors is a plus, and plenty of clean towels and bathroom amenities. Great for the price highly recommended.
