"Drive another 40 minutes to hit Mujeres del Barro Rojo, a female-run shop in San Marcos Tlapazola that sources red clay pottery from various villages. Let them wrap your goods in yesterday’s newspaper so you can pack them carefully in your carry on."
A top 5 life experience. Absolutely incredible.
The pieces have been featured in MoMA in NYC and the women there are phenomenal. No wheel, all by hand.
Prices were incredibly fair (I was shocked they don’t charge more.)
It’s honestly worth driving to and going out of your way far.

Beautiful place to see how el Barro Rojo is made and see finished pieces. The ladies were super friendly and invited us to the back to see the Barro Rojo process.

These women are fantastic! I needed a large service of dishes that all matched and they dug around in boxes and storage rooms until we found exactly what I wanted. All the while laughing and chatting. I felt like I was at my sister's house borrowing dishes. The price is great and they are durable.
