Very beautiful, well put together store. The prices are reasonable and the styles are great. The organization and separation of this store was very nice. Be careful on the way through checkout, so many good snacks to choose from!

The 2 employees at the front door and on the floor (near the stationery) were super kind, friendly, and helpful! However, the lady who was working today (March 3, 2:30pm) at the left cash register upstairs (looking from the customer direction) was QUITE rude. I put my basket on the counter for a second and she flipped it over and dumped it out with one hand, pens rolling. There was no line behind me. I hope someone explains to her that it's much more polite to either wait for the customer to take out the items, or even take out the items / ask me / something else.

Stopped by while I was in the area to grab a container that was big enough to store my pup’s harness and leash for easy access. This store is pretty big and even has a clothing section (women's section on the main floor and men's section downstairs) compared to the other locations. A lot of people were browsing the stationery area where there were a plethora of nice pens and notebooks (took me back to my high school days). I didn’t know they also sold snacks and other food items which are near the register. I ended up picking a large white plastic container that came with a translucent lid (you do have to pay separately for the container and the lid, which ended up being about $13 or so). Would recommend it if you need household items that are simple and affordable.

Amazing! I different culture’s IKEA. It was so clean and simple and affordable and satisfying to walk around. We got a whole basket worth without intending to buy anything when we walked in. Great quality! I would highly recommend a visit!

This store sells dirty items and refuses to take them back accusing honest customers of having worn them. I tried to return an item I had only tried on for 10 seconds to CHECK THE SIZE, and the cashier (Yaneli, photo attached) refused to take it back while accusing me of having worn it before. Please note that many others have also blamed her for this unprofessional behaviour in the reviews. Her excuses kept changing, from it being dirty to it having “pet hair,” which is ridiculous since I haven’t been in the vicinity of a pet for 2 years now. It was night time when I bought the jacket 7 days ago from the same store. Given the number of comments and my own experience of how unorganized this store is, it is extremely likely that the store had done a bad job of keeping it clean. And honestly frustrating for being blamed of something I have not done. What happened to respecting the customer? I have so many proofs that I did not wear it, I mean it doesn't even fit me. At this point, it is not even about the item. I will most likely never bother to return it. It is about being made to spend 40 minutes of my Saturday traveling to the store only to be humiliated by an entitled cashier. Oh also she gave me a fake customer care number to talk to because she knew that she was wrong and would get caught. Never buy from this store if you are unsure about sizing. I have been a loyal Muji customer for years, including this Soho store, but the brand has lost me unless they do something about this person.

Extremely disappointed by the quality and return policy of one of their products as it was defective. I’ve been a long time customer and have purchased many products, but when I asked if I could at least exchange the product (expensive clothing) for a non defective one, Muji was unable to stand by their product and at least offer the same product as an exchange.

Big store with wide selection. Like most Muji stores there is a couch downstairs, which is very cozy. I surprisingly like their matcha powder (pretty sweet) and their plastic eyelash curler is really good.

This particular location has a terrible wait time for fitting rooms. About 50% of this two-storey store is dedicated to apparel and has only 3 fitting rooms. It takes forever to have your turn. I sincerely wish that the management would fix this. Muji stores have excellent aromatherapy products, good food items, and absolutely terrible stationary. The pens went dry within 90 days. In food items, soups are recommended, a unit comes with 4 packs for $ 7 and is quite delicious. Apparel is good too. The aesthetics of the apparel is unisex and may not be to everyone's liking.

Muji is a retail company originating from Japan which sells a wide variety of household consumer items, interior and storage accessories, stationary, furniture, kitchenware, tableware, travel, skincare, clothing and food products. Muji is most well-known for its philosophy of functional, quality design with a Japanese minimalistic aesthetic, offered at a reasonable price. I've always enjoyed checking out and purchasing Muji items. On Black Friday, Muji was giving away a Black Friday Survival Essentials Kit to the first 300 customers at their Fifth Avenue and SoHo stores. The Black Friday Survival Essentials Kit included an exclusive tote featuring the MUJI Market design and filled with a notebook, black 0.38 pen, yuzu candy, and a water bottle. Also, I received a scratch-off card for an extra 10-30% off. My card was only for 10% off. The MUJI SoHo location open at 8AM. I was in line about 7:50am and staff gave us hot matcha latte and a ticket to redeem the tote while waiting. Doors opened exactly at 8AM and by 8:05AM, I already got my tote and walked around the two floor store. It was a very organized process and so nice of them to give us a drink while we were waiting outside. Store was very organized and fully stocked. Service was great even on Black Friday and I had a great time.

This is the best Japanese fashion store ever. They've got so many stationary, home storage, travel, clothing, and dish ware options. Their prices are really nice for the quality of their products. I go inside every time I'm in the area because I just love it so much. The staff are friendly- you don't need them very often unless you can't reach something.

Muji's products have an exceptional balance of function and minimalist design. I recently bought a set of their notebooks, and I'm really impressed with the quality of the paper--smooth and durable, perfect for daily use. The understated design not only makes it a joy to write in, but it also adds a sleek touch to my home office. I love how everything from their desk supplies to their storage solutions effortlessly blend into my workspace, making it both organized and visually calming.

I had heard of Muji, but I hadn't actually stopped in a store before until my friend Robin wanted to check out the one on Broadway. I was surprised to see the store selling a wide variety of household consumer items, like furniture and clothing and even some food products (but all packaged and limited in number.). Everything seemed to really be of functional and good quality and design, with a bit of the typical Japanese minimalistic aesthetic, which I really liked. The prices are reasonable enough too. Definitely check them out if you're a fan of simplistic yet very practical household items; I ended up getting a little tooth brush holder (set of 2), 2 organizing trays and a cotton T-shirt. The store is 2 floors, with stationary / office items in the front, along with other stuff and women's clothing on the first floor. The basement houses other household items and the men's section. The line moved quickly and the cashier was also pleasant. I will be returning!

I love Muji stationeries. When you first walk in, you get that fresh smell of what the store smells like because of all the diffusers in front of the store. The music playing in the background is also very calming. This store has 2 stories. Stationaries, travels, skincare, and women were on the main level, which is where I stayed the entire time. I love how everything is so clean and organized. The clothing is pretty expensive, but the stationaries are pretty cheap for such great quality. You can even test the pens before you purchase them. There is such a wide variety of stationeries you can find here. I would definitely come back again!

I bought a few shirts here for someone and the sizing ended up being a bit too large. I lost the receipt but had the tags intact, my bank/transaction info, and my credit card. I reached out to the online sales people first and asked if it was possible to still return my items, and they said yes, MUJI should be able to look up the information and refund me that way. I called them, and they said unfortunately, they couldn't, and hung up. I feel like that's just not true..? And extremely unhelpful/wasteful because I now have shirts that are the wrong size with tags intact that I can't do anything about.

Nice store that sells variety of Japanese items. Love how minimalist the items this place are. Some of them may feel cheap, but useful and provide longevity. Even tho i didnt end up buying anything from this place, i usually come here for some ideas and motivation that i could apply to my life and to work. : )

I absolutely love Muji so much! They have the best pens (and the only ones I ever buy), and their clothing is also very well made. I have some black slacks from them that are perfect for formal wear, and I also have a flannel from them that I very soft and warm. Their organizers are also useful because they are clear so you can see what's inside without having to open the drawers. Oh, and I almost forgot about the Light Toning Water that I use on my face after I wash it. They're just the best!

Jinhaohan, an employee working on new year's eve, provided absolutely outstanding service today, and was such a huge help. I wanted specifically to write this review in hopes corporate MUJI/management might give him special recognition for having such wonderful bedside manners and sunny, professional disposition. The store was all out of gift wrap, but he helped fashion wrapping paper from what they had on-hand for the bone china dish set I purchased for my mom. He wrapped each piece with such care and patience, and it made my shopping experience ten times more pleasant. Jianhaohan is truly representative of the calm care you'd expect at a MUJI store, and you'll be lucky if you get to cross paths with him!

The location is filled with tourists walking in circles, not paying attention, and bumping into you. The stationary is nice and it's great that they let you test things but then when you go to buy, you end up with something that is low on ink or graphite

I love getting my gel pens from here! They have some of the best mini notebooks for an affordable price! I also like the home decor & dishware. I've gotten some nice chopsticks & glass mugs from here! I always love coming here

Similar to Uniqlo but even better! This is a go-to place for minimalistic house wear, containers, and clothes. This is my first time at a Muji, and I absolutely love the whole clean vibe it has. Clean lines. Little-no logos. Lots of basics. What I love about this place is that they have unique treats! Imagine a matcha butter spread for toast or wheat based chocolates! Totally unique and delicious! My friends who had visited Japan also had noted that the quality for Muji is better. The downside is that many of the items are one sized fits all! For my shorter friends, the pants and shirts are too long!

I created an account specifically to thank employees that helped me today. Becky and her brother, Johansson, were so kind to help me find the USB portable battery-operated fans I was looking for. Becky offered to call every store in NYC for me, and she did just that! Unfortunately after she confirmed with her manager, she came back to say they were currently sold out at every NYC store and gave me an estimated date for restocking. Becky offered me the display or sample fan and I was just glad to get one! Just as I was about to walk away to get a display one, Johansson managed to find one for me! I ended up purchasing both the display one and the one with packaging. The display one was half off because it didn't have a box and because it's the one everyone used to try them out. I strongly recommend their fans. The weather in the city has been brutal and if you're a NYer, you'd appreciate it!!!! I'm just glad to have gotten what I came here for, shout out to Becky and Johansson!

As an artist and just someone who loves pens, their refillable 0.5mm tip pens are PERFECT

i came in last thursday evening to stock up on some office supplies. i love that in my maximalist apartment i can still implement minimalistic features that come from muji. i was at the soho store and there was someone named johnson working on thursday who was very helpful and helped me choose the right notebook for a lefthanded person like me !!! the girl who checked me out did her own nails?! she recommended me some local nail artists and let me take a pic of hers for inspo, i'm so happy this city is like this, the connection, communication and chaos lol. i'm a little sad to hear they closed down the california stores :( i think my parents would adore the furniture from there even though the soho store doesn't sell furniture. i think muji is great for students on a budget, people who want to decorate their spaces, and its also good just to window shop !

Since the last time I visited, this MUJI location no longer just has a few diffusers showcasing their essential oils...they've got a whole WALL of them blasting their whole aromatherapy line. It seriously makes the store smell so good. First floor sells clothes, pens and notebooks, some storage containers, bags, suitcases you name it! I haven't personally bought any of their pens but there's a good range of 0.5mm and thinner pens and pencils (I always used the 0.5mm lead pencil refills over the 0.7mm). Basement level sells homeware goods like cleaning tools, eating utensils, plates, bowls etc. Also they have a smaller bench of aromatherapy diffusers blasting down there. I've noticed their food selection (that used to be in packaged bags by the checkout line) are basically gone. Have they phased them out? Not sure but I only saw little round crackers when I went.

tuesday evening july 2024 they overcharged me for a sample shirt they had on sale. it's not worth it for me to go back plus they threw the original tag away that had the sale price. they charged me some random amount which makes no sense bc the tag said $8, not sure how they came up w $14.90. there was no reason for this to happen. sad bc i love muji

This location was okay but the floor staff on this particular day was goofing around too much. I even had to correct one of the employers on pricing of luggage (clearly they don't know pricing of their own merchandise).

They did not give me the promised discount for signing up for emails and texts and now they don't respond to my email questioning them on this. Terrible way to do business!

love their Tee shirts. their socks? watch out, I bought my size stated on package and were way to small. went back to exchange and they would NOT honor. extremely disappointing.. woman manager at 5th Ave store, super rude all the way to her have a nice day. Worst costumer service ever!!!!!! The manager NECANA called the police bc the staff applied a $7 discount to me mistakenly and I refused to give it back on the second day when they found out The staff mistakenly applied 10% off to my order( which is $7 cheaper), and the second day I tried to buy the same thing, then we found out they made a mistake yesterday and the manager NECANA required me to give the $7 dollar back!! I refused to do that cuz I think I didn't know what happened at all on the first day and it's their staff's mistake. Then she CALLED THE POLICE because of the mistake their staff made! At the end the police helped me paid the $7 (lol ) and said this is crazy. This manager NECANA is the craziest person I ever seen. Here is the details: I bought two boxes with SAME PRICE but one M size and one L size on the first day and got a 10% off discount. (The rule is buy two same boxes get 10% off) , the second day I tried to buy one M and one L again and paid the original price after being told cannot get the discount. And this crazy manager wants me to return the $7 on the first day they mistakenly gave me the discount with. And she kept claiming that I got a 'free item' from them to make me looks bad, but in fact, I paid full right prices cuz the M and L boxes are the SAME PRICE. All the cashiers are so nice!!Only this manager NECANA is a B word, even police officers thought this is ridiculous. What a crazy bad experience omg

Cool shop with a wood vibe inside. They sell a variety of things - clothing (winter coats, sweaters, heat leggings and shirts for winter wear under your clothing), office supplies and the like. There's no staff on the sales floor to help, but everything is self explanatory. Getting rug up was a quick friendly experience. I look forward to seeing what kind of clothing they sell in the warm months.

I've always been a shopper at MUJI and never had issues, but their policies lately particularly this store is extremely aggressive and not customer friendly at all. In fact, I've returned items with no issues in the past, but their policies changed. If they state up front that they only do exchange or store credit, no refunds, I would've been ok with that. I purchased a few items and the cashier told me that the items can be returned as long as the front stickers aren't removed. I said ok. Days later, I check my receipt to realize the cashier stamped a huge red "FINAL SALE. NO RETURNS" so I can't even back up their initial claim about returns. Not only that, but they charge for paper bags. I'm all for saving the environment but if a customer buys $200 worth of stuff and half of it can't be carried without a bag, it's a sleazy move to charge a customer for that. For a company that is growing and also charging prices that are a bit high for the products, I'm shocked how unfriendly their store policies are. I would tell everyone to be really careful about their purchased and beware. Don't listen to what the cashier tells you about returns. Their word will not help you. I've shopped at MUJI for years and I'm sad that I'm giving them such a poor review.

I love Muji! When I went they were controlling the number of people going in and out which I appreciated during these times. I love their pens and notebooks. Great prices with great quality. All their other items are simple and basic in a good way. You can rely on their products to do what they're supposed to.

Clean and well organized. I consider this a Japanese version of ikea. I love their gel pens (they are discontinuing soon) and customizable notebooks and canvas tote bags! Great selection of reusable chopsticks and inexpensive silverwear (I buy them for packing my lunches). It's a 2 floor store and they have two levels of check out so you won't be waiting in line too long.

I am a sucker for stationary. Muji appeals to people who love the minimalist feel of stationary with all the different kids of pens that Japanese style is known for. Love to doodle or write with super fine point pens? Gel? Ink? Lined paper? Dots? Blank? Come and spend an hour here. They also have a clothing section, very similar to Uniqlo. And finally downstairs, in the home good section, more pricier options for organzation, kitchen goods, etc. Warning: right now they are in full throes of selling their misting aroma machines, so if you are overly sensitive to smells, the immediate assault of lemongrass, citrus, lavender etc. when you walk in might be a bit too strong.

This is one of the busier Muji locations in the city-- the weekends can get straight up claustrophobic at times, though the lemongrass scent in the air will help to calm you down a bit. Because of street traffic (and the fact that they are perpetually out of those addictive rice crackers), I usually opt for other locations, Williamsburg and cooper Sq being my top two favorites. I'm not complaining though; I used to have to schlep out to the one store in Boston for snacks and home goods. We are spoiled by seven(!) options in the city.

What's all this 3 star business?! While not fully stocked like the MUJI on 5th Ave, staff here is extremely pleasant and polite! This location also has a more lenient return policy that other MUJIs. Love everything this brand stands for: comfort, quality, simplicity. They've got security out the wazoo... Still a solid 5 stars.

Update: I got an email response from Muji 10 days after reaching out, and it took another 10 days to finally receive a tracking code for a product replacement.

Although MUJI's products are unique and well designed, the MUJI's company / stores policy is very unfriendly. It has been a great turn off to me on my previous few visits. Point One: Their return policies are VERY RESTRICTIVE and UNFRIENDLY to their customers. Beware! Not everything you buy on sale is returnable regardless of any issue you will later find with the merchandise. Point Two: This is a new reason to avoid MUJI. You will now have to buy a paper bag from MUJI or place the merchandise you buy into your own bag. How many people you know casually carry their own bags? This may have a very minuscule positive impact on the environment; however, the policy poses a great inconvenience on MUJI's customers.

The store is super neat and clean. Plenty of things in here to help organize your room, work place, life, etc. Items are on the pricier side but they do have sales. I appreciate the simplicity of their designs. Their build your own pen section and stationary section are my faves. Very minimalist designs.

this store is very cool! my favorite area is the pens :). i also like the toiletries like q-tips and cotton pads. its huge! theres so much to look at. i like the home organization area too.

I'm a minimalist, so I love this kind of store. I was in New York the other day and popped in here to purchase some basic supplies. I recycle magazines and I sometimes turn them into envelopes. It requires only a few basic supplies which you can get at Muji You can purchase a plastic envelope template, scissor and glue for only a few dollars at this fabulous store . (See picture) I really love their design because it's simple, clean and practical. It's very inexpensive and you can purchase pretty much everything here including items that are very travel friendly.

Don't be fooled by the 5th Ave across the street from NYPL location. Muji @ SoHo carries more variety than other Muji stores. I usually come here for the pens, but I'm in no short supply of those lately. I've also tried the White Chocolate covered freeze dried strawberries and they taste a little bit sour but the sweetness of the white chocolate helps a bit. It can get a little overwhelming after the 2nd or 3rd strawberry.

Soho is confusing Let me start first by saying I usually love Muji but I will most likely never go in the Soho store again. I shop at Muji at the Hudson Yard store and the have a mask optional policy for vaccinated people. They had signage sayin mask required but the manager came over and told us very nicely that we can take our mask off if we are vaccinated, as this is the science and a vaccine is a move towards an open world and also the Gov of NY has lifted mask requirement in accordance with the vaccination rate and the CDC. Today I went into Soho store and the same sign is up. I asked the girl at the door if the rule was different for vaccinated people. She literally froze. She said let me check with the manager. There was nobody at the door and no counting people in the store for occupancy numbers. Something they chose to lift.? To be honest either way is ok with me, but since I have followed the rules and alway wore a mask and had a different experience at the Hudson Yards store and also notice that many stores have changed their policies and not their signage yet (as in Hudson Yards Muji). I'd like to know and would prefer not to wear one as I would like the world to return. Also I simply asked the young girl if she could check and stepped to the side. It is not in my interest to have a problem, after all she is just working. However when she went to ask she left the door with quite an attitude. To people who came in actually mentioned it to me. Clearly others would like to take off their mask. The manager a male came over and said to me"We are at capacity ". I told him I wasn't asking about that I was asking him about mask for vaccinated people. Again nobody had any raised voices, including him at this point. He said quite rudely,"read the sign". I said "ok I was only asking because Hudson Yards allowed it". He said we follow CDC guidelines (which is incorrect, as the CDC clearly said vaccinated people do NOT need mask indoors) as Hudson Yards knows. He again said "read the sign". Some manager. I wonder what he'll do when Muji goes out of business with that kind of attitude and closes in the east coast as it has in the west. His attitude is a problem and the company's lack of clarity will damage them. I know I will shove elsewhere, as I know hot to read and follow directions but really do need someone with a massive attitude. Bye Muji

It is sad. The reviews that have a problem with this specific store are all about the staff. They seem like we interrupted them from a video game they were enjoying. The Muji at 5th and Hudson Yards has a whole different vibe. Muji if you want to get out of bankruptcy check your employees. Start at the top down. The Ass. manager at this location down.

Warning to fellow asthmatics: The store has placed automatic air diffusers throughout the store that spew out scented vapor that set off my asthma. It may set off yours, too. I actually love many things in this store and used to shop there regularly. Now they basically have polluted the air there. Even my covid mask did not help.

Great store!! Very nice people except for one man who seemed to be in charge. Would not let me charge my phone in order to pay for my products /: he kicked me out of the store. Their loss $$ very rude. Still a cool store. Probably won't be back

My relative introduced me to this Muji while we were shopping around Chinatown. To me, Muji was a small store, selling presentable minimalist items that softly bespoke of class. I enjoyed strolling around and looking at the notebooks and pens. The clothes and towels were a little too simplistic for me but I enjoyed looking at the map handkerchief and some of the toiletries. I found some of the items costing a little more than what I might usually pay but if gifting for someone, it might be worth it.

Great service and great products. Has a wide variety of simple clothing at incredibly good prices. If you're a fan of Uniqlo, you will definitely love this as well. Genuinely excited for my new Jinbei.

MUJI is the same everywhere so this review is not for their products. MUJI NYC stores seem to have employed quite a handful of young, inexperienced part-time workers at the cash register who lack the knowledge and attitude to work in the retail industry, based on my experience at their Soho store and earlier at their Union Square store. I got three things on a Wednesday early afternoon and showed the girl at the register a coupon on my phone screen. To my surprise she kept whining and saying things like "hmmm I don't think it will work anymore," and "it probably won't work anymore" without even checking or looking at the email. I simply asked her "Could you please try?" She then scanned it reluctantly and it went through -- not a huge hassle not sure why she wouldn't even look at it at first. Then she just stamped "final sale" on my receipt. I was told earlier that one of the items, the hair brush, was a final sale item, but not the other two. So I asked her "If you stamp final sale on the receipt, wouldn't it make everything final sale?" She was visibly stunned for a second and then brushed me off by saying "They will know." I don't intend to return any of the items I bought, but this kind of customer service obviously lacks training. On the other hand, the in-store staff was really helpful in suggesting the right household item to me. Not sure why some of the NYC cash registry staff seem to be off from MUJI's global standards.

Wish we had a Muji in CT! I really appreciate how this Japanese brand centers on all thing minimal. Minimal branding, quality material -- on all types of things. Office supplies, apparel, kitchen and home decor -- I enjoyed window shopping, as most things were quite expensive. However, if you're looking for well-made items and don't mind the markup, Muji is the place!

Horrible customer service. My order arrived broken to pieces and they never responded to calls or emails. Appalling.

If you're of Japanese extraction like me, you're probably offended when somebody yells - "Hey! You all look alike!". Well, don't be. You probably shopped at Muji and didn't realize that you do look like every Asian in a minimalist, green-friendly state of mind. Not green, mind you...green-friendly. I don't think Muji sells anything that remotely comes close to a primary color...whether it's a sweater, an alarm clock or a toilet pot...whatever the hell that is. Everything is white, black or beige. Period. Now don't get my wrong. Sometimes I do want to melt into the background, but I need a little color splash in my life. I don't shop here much for clothing as comfortable as some of it looks, but I do like to get some of their stationery and office supplies. It can get quite addictive much like a bad Weight Watchers meltdown at a Fresh Choice spaghetti bar. Listen, if you can't tell I like the store, I do...though I have to admit I don't really miss it when I'm back in San Francisco. Now UNIQLO is another story altogether....

I have loved stationery my entire life and continue to buy pens and other supplies to no end. Enter Muji and their affordable fine point pens - looking at you 0.38. Love the black, blue, and purple as they are smooth but vibrant. I am sure they have other wonderful things too but the pens have my heart

Since that time, I've ordered a Chronotebook over the phone through this store, and made many orders over the Internet via the MOMA, Muji.us, and muji.eu. And just a few days ago, my favourite hardcover Global Diary came in the mail from the UK! It's always fun to look over the plethora of simple yet functional items, and imagine the possibilities.
