Mukul, Auberge Resorts Collection | Condé Nast Traveler

"Nicaragua may be one of the world’s hot eco-destinations, but the lodgings were hippie-chic at best—until Mukul opened last year. The resort, set on a majestic sweep of Nicaragua’s Pacific coast, is the brainchild of Don Carlos Pellas of the billionaire Pellas family, whose holistic vision for the area includes conservation and new jobs for the surrounding communities. It’s both epic and intimate: Twelve clay-tile-roofed villas and 23 bohios (huts with their own plunge pools) are tucked into a beachscape of wide-screen beauty, while the grand open-air lobby is configured in the palapa style. The thing I appreciated most, however, was the sense of discretion that prevails here: Mukul means secret in Tzotzil, a Mayan language, and indeed everything from the subtle service to the privacy-ensuring sight lines (even the golf course, located in a lush valley behind the hotel, is all but invisible from the rooms) delivers beautifully on that promise. –Paul Richardson"

We spent our Babymoon at Mukul, and we are very grateful for the care and attention from the entire hotel team. They surprised us with thoughtful details and surprises. Thank you, Mukul family; we will never forget our experience and hope to return very soon.

We visited Mukul for a golf trip last week and were made to feel extremely unwelcome - the worst hospitality in Nicaragua. We arrived to play golf at 8am to learn that the course was closed because of rain and wouldn’t open until 2pm. We managed to get breakfast (though were initially told that this was not possible as we didn’t have a reservation despite the place being empty). We had 5 hours to kill so thought we would spend it exploring the resort, though while doing so were met by Marta who was quick to point out that we weren’t welcome in the hotel part of the resort. This was no problem (we thought) as we walked back along the beach and planned to use the pool. Our server (who was delightful) said that he had been told by Marta that we were unable to use the pool, beach or sun loungers despite us being the only people in the resort. As a result, we were forced to look at the lovely empty resort from the restaurant. When it came to play golf, the pro shop spoke poor English and was very unwelcoming. We were not provided with the clubs we requested and were promised and it took close to 20 minutes to get her to change them. We were not given any instructions and had to figure things out for ourselves (which way to go, the course etc). For $650 for two people to play golf, we were highly unimpressed and thought the golf course was in poor condition. The overall experience was really poor and if you want luxury I suggest you go up the road to Rancho Santana where they could not have been more welcoming and hospitable.

We came for my wife’s birthday and was an amazing experience. 2 hours from the airport and quiet private villa overlooking the private bay. Awesome food and excellent service throughout. Highly recommend. Quiet and well kept grounds with lush trees and butterflies everywhere

Perfection on all counts. Our world’s quiet hidden gem! This place is calm, romantic & beautiful. Grab a book and relax! Great service, food, cleanliness, views, friendliness of staff, music, ability to accommodate requests … we LOVED IT. |Well groomed tropical grounds, cute monkeys on trees, and fun easy hikes! |Spa therapists were wonderful. |Well worth the 2 hrs drive from the airport !!

Amazing Stay! Definitely the BEST 5 Star Resort in Nicaragua! The privacy was amazing but moreover the Beach is just Pristine and astonishing! Plus the most amazing thing is being able to wake up and go surfing in the mornings right in front of the hotel!

This place is a hidden gem. Spectacular accommodations, beach and amenities. Went with teen boys who surfed, fished, played pickle ball and golf. staff were extremely friendly and accommodating and food was extremely good with a decent amount of variety. It was our third trip to Nicaragua and this was the nicest of all the places we've stayed. overall a fantastic week.

We came back to Mukul again this year (first visit was 2022) as it’s simply one of the nicest resorts in the world. The rooms and views are immaculate. Private pools, butler service, excellent surfing, free guided nature walks, reasonably priced food and drinks, amazing spa services, etc etc. They went above and beyond this year - proactively addressing any issue and providing personalized gifts at the end of our stay. The level of service exceeds Four Seasons. I cannot believe more people don’t take advantage of this place but the relatively solitude is welcome. We will be back again.

the hotel is in a gated community - the whole area is really big. there’s 24 bohios and 12 villas belonging to the hotel and then a lot of private houses. we stayed at the bohio first and switched then to the villa. they were both extraordinary nice - great views. villa not so much privacy if you’re chilling at the pool but as there were not so many guests it was okay. we felt like almost the only visitors, which was nice to have some peace but probably due to this the restaurant at mukul was only open on the weekend so we had to eat breakfast, lunch and dinner at the tres ceibas beach club. the service team was really nice but it took quite long for the food (even though we were sometimes the only ones) plus what disturbed me a lot was that we had to pay 5$ for a cappuccino but we booked the room (almost 1’000$ per night) including breakfast and no one informed us, that there’s a regulation on the breakfast. the food otherwise felt a bit more like on a camping, prices still like in a luxury restaurant. we felt a bit stuck there with the food situation - we would recommend renting a car and going to hacienda iguana. the food and price was really good there. also the communication was not optimal. for a 5 star luxury hotel we somehow expected a bit more.
