Disappointing service and underwhelming food Half burnt Samosas could fit in a spoon One bit vada pavs (not a compliment, vada pavs is not supposed to be one biters) Same price Thali in surrounding residents could feed 2. I recently visited this restaurant with high expectations, from other reviews. Unfortunately, the experience left me feeling extremely disappointed. Despite having traveled to 12 countries across 5 continents, I have rarely encountered such poor service. On a Saturday evening, my party of four arrived at 7 pm and ordered Thali, which we often order to get authentic experience and we love it in most of the restaurant and portions are big for this price, usually 1 Thali is enough for 2 people. However, we were informed by a different server that Thali is not allowed to share? Basically you are paying but they decide how you should eat your food!?, and we were left with no choice but to change our order to two curries, naan, and rice, to which the new server replied you can't cancel the order as it's "under preparation", within 2 mins of ordering I can't change my order? The portions we received were underwhelming, with samosas and Vada Pavs so small that they could be easily eaten in one bite. The curries lacked flavor, with sprouts and pulses that seemed to be leftovers from other dishes. While the roti was noteworthy, everything else was underwhelming. I only recommend this restaurant if you're new to Indian cuisine and prefer a bland taste. Overall, the service and food were disappointing, and I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an authentic Indian dining experience.

Nice and chic Indian restaurant! We were craving for some Indian food while in Vancouver so we went to Mumbai Local. The servers were cheerful and interacted with us giving suggestions on the menu and asking our food choices. We went there couple of times. I would say that they have the right flavor and taste without going extra spicy. Of course it’s Indian food you can always ask to make spicy. This time we ordered chat items. Reminded me of Mumbai. Pani Puri, Pandit Chat, Samosa Chat , Bhel and yes Tea. Yummy 😋😋

We recently visited Mumbai Local in Vancouver and had a wonderful experience. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was inviting. We especially enjoyed the spicy vada pav, shrimp rava fry and the finger licking chicken lollipops. The mutton kolhapuri was perfectly cooked and the flavors were amazing. The pics don’t do justice so do give it a try!! The staff was friendly and attentive, and they made us feel welcomed from the moment we walked in. The restaurant was clean and well-decorated, and the music was pleasant. Overall, we would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a great Indian meal in Vancouver. I hope this helps!

Google
We had such a fun time trying various items on their menu. As someone new to the flavours their menu offered, I found everything tasty and unique. The staff was courteous and patient with our many questions. We started with two items and eventually worked our way to ordering another dish and 3 sides. We even drank some of the flavoured water that we’re quite sure wasn’t meant to be drank straight. Price was reasonable too. It did take 4 attempts to finally find the restaurant open. We found out at the end that we didn't order any of their most popular dishes, so I guess we'll aim to make a return visit for those...

Authentic Indian food! My friend and I ordered chilli chicken and other delicious dishes! The vibe is amazing too. Highly recommend. The portion is a bit small tho.

I visited Mumbai Local for Dine-in and it was a pleasant experience: Service: It was quick.. people made sure I was seated comfortably, was offered water, cutlery and I was periodically checked upon if everything was good. Food quality & taste: it was excellent. The presentatio was good, taste was as close to it can get in India, decent portion as well. Price: my order was Bhel & Pav Bhaji. While I thought Bhel was adequately priced, Pav Bhaji was a bit overpriced at 16 (ideal would be $10-12). Overall: I would highly recommend this place for excellent food and service.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner the other night. I ordered the pau bhaji which was great and he ordered chicken curry and rice. We also ordered vada pav for starters which was delicious. I've been here twice before and I love the atmosphere. The street food selection is wonderful, maybe a little pricey but I think that's subjective. I will be back for sure.

In authenticity emerges the story - We went quite unassumingly into the dainty corners of Davie. This area is filled with Indian restaurants promising you *unabashedly* the flavors of the sub-continent but ending up delivering short. Bombay local pulled the evergreen trick of sticking to what it knows best and just consistently transporting us to our sweet-savory-salivating days in Mumbai. Starting from excellent suggestions and a suave ownership laden service from Kabir, we thoroughly enjoyed the chicken lollipop, a dish that is hard to construct given the evolutions it has been within the south indo chinese /(or chinjabi) cuisine. The crispy coating (and chutney) had that signature rustic but not overpowering umami flavor, with the fresh and juicy chicken tenders delicately attached to their bones. With their weekend specials in play we also got the pleasure of tasking their chicken manchurian done closest to chinjabi expectations. The crispy vada in the vada-pav packed the flavor punches with the chewy bun texture most places don’t even consider. The bhaji in the pav bhaji (and masala pav) teleported us to our favorite roadside stalls thickly butter creamed and mashed to perfection. We also order masala colas that packed the traditional jal jeera digestive allowing us to go further exploring - resetting the palate with each sip. Oh then how could we not think daily about the bombay chilli cheese breads toasted to perfection done in with a stuffing you can only call an indo-italian marriage? This is what being bilingual would taste like! Given all this, the icing on the cake was the house made kesar malai kulfi gently peppered with rose petals and pistachios that couldn’t have been replaced with any other sweet of the same caliber. There are no places we’re aware of in downtown that can package all of this authenticity into a 45 minute dine-in story. We’re certain you’d feel the same.

Yelp
We came here on a Thursday evening for dinner. Not much crowd, staff was attentive and food came quick. The food was just okay. We ordered the dahi puri. It came with 6 puris but I wish they had more flavor. The chili chicken was pretty good and portion size was good. But it wasn't spicy enough. The mumbai chicken curry was too oily for me. It wasn't flavorful enough. And the laccha paratha didn't have enough structure and was falling apart. Everything was average and maybe slightly ovepriced. The ambience was nice and like I mentioned the staff was friendly so maybe I'd come again to try some other dishes.

Kathirazhagan A.

Yelp
We just stopped to have a quick bite and not full pledged meal. The order didn't disappoint us and we liked the food, service and ambience. If I am in the area, will plan for drinks which was quite extensive menu and also full course meal.

Yelp
Checkout Mumbai Local for delicious contemporary Indian eats in Downtown Vancouver. The dishes had the perfect kick to them (not too spicy). The chaat sampler is perfect for indecisive people or for sharing with friends. My favourite dish was the butter chicken. We tried: Chaat Sampler - 2 pieces of Shev Puri, Pani Puri, Dahi Puri and a bowl of Bhel Puri $19.5 Paneer Tikka Kebab - Grilled paneer (cottage cheese), garam masala, fenugreek, peppers and onion, mustard oil. Served with mint yogurt chutney $14.99 Butter Chicken - Tender chicken tikka cooked in a deep rich gravy of butter, tomato and spices $18.99 Make sure to visit them between Tuesday and Thursday to receive 25% off certain items on their menu. Parking: 3/5 (paid street parking) Service 4/5 Food 4/5 Ambiance 4/5

Yelp
Fantastic place. Great food. Great service. But let me tell you, I thought I had a high space tolerance after this I learned oh how wrong I was. I wish I could of disregarded the spice to eat more but I was unable to do so.

Yelp
I wish I could give this place a 4.5 Authentic taste of Mumbai street food. Casual ambience, cool wall decor. We got there around 3:45 pm and got a table right away. Ordered a nimbi pani that had a good kick of chaat masala. The chaat sampler had 2 of everything, nice to try all the chaats before chomping on your main. The ragada pani puri, sev puri, bhel puri and dahi puri were all SO YUM! We also got misal pav, vada pav and pav bhaji. Misal was BOMB. Spicy and so authentic. Vada pav was also very good. Took away one star for the bhaji in pav bhaj; it didn't have any texture. It's usually mashed well, but here it was more "blended". So kind of like tomato soup with bread. Other than that, great street food. Loved the presentation too. Ended with masala chai, which was good too. One stop for all your chaat craving!

Yelp
I went to Canada again this weekend. We got a take out as we were running late. It was extremely disappointing. We ordered ragda patty, Behl poori, sev poori, and two other things. All the things except Vada pav were stale. They were stinking and absolutely non consumable. I opened the packet and gave it to my little niece and glad that she pointed out it was not good. We drove 40 mins to get there only to throw the food away. Really sad to see this place going downhill. Update - we came back to Seattle and called the restaurant the next day to share that the food was stale. The conduct was extremely rude and downright unprofessional. The person who was working there on Oct 1 between 1:45-2pm said that I am lying to get a refund. I did not want to say anything after that, but I wouldn't recommend anyone going there given there are so many Indian places in Vancouver.

Yelp
I've walked by Mumbai Local many times but never had a chance to check it out until recently. A group of us stopped for some tea and appetizers before hitting up one of the pubs at English Bay. It was pretty empty on a Saturday evening, around 6 pm, when we came. The four of us split two dishes: Chicken sukka ($10) - this was really good. The chicken was quite tender and flavorful Mumbai special pav bhaji ($14) - this is essentially a vegetable stew served with toasted bread (pav) on the side. It's a pretty big bowl of bhaji that was perfect for the 4 of us to share. The hot soup and toasted pav was perfect to warm us up on a cold Vancouver winter evening

Yelp
Mumbai local is by far my most restaurant favorite in Vancouver. So much because it reminds me of the food back in Mumbai and my hometown. Which is comforting in times of covid when you haven't been able to visit for 2 years (getting a little emotional here!) Dined-in twice and ordered delivery quite a few time as well. We've been at odd times when there wasn't much crowd. Service is friendly and ambience is decent. The mural on the wall is nostalgic. Moving on to the food! Chai: I generally don't drink chai so when I do like it, its got generous amounts of chai masala! You can get either full size or cutting. Chaat Sampler: Visually appealing and a good way to get a gist of the taste for their various chaat items before ordering the full size. I loved their dahi puri and pani poori (comes with chana and not aloo) Masala Pav/Pav bhaji: Masala pav is basically pav filled with pav bhaji. So the appetizer version. And it was so good! And hence their Pav bhaji is good too. I finally found a place that gives a close to flavor of what we eat in Mumbai. What I've been missing in every other pav bhaji I've eaten in NA. Misal Pav: Good but not a show stealer. Plenty of misal so we ordered extra pav. Paneer tikka masala: Had a smoky flavor and so delicious that I dreamt about it. And finished the leftovers first thing in the next morning. Fish Malwani Curry: Traditional and tangy. Comes with basa. Railway mutton curry: Thick non creamy gravy. Traditional maharashtrian spices. Reminded of mutton curry made at home. Enough said. Prawns curry & Malpua: Again, good but not show stealers.

Yelp
The total price in this restaurant is a bit high coz they will charge you an 18% tip as a default and we have to wait for serive although there aren't many customers in the restaurant. The chicken lollipops are tasted really good. The fish curry is salty and spicy, not like Japanese curry style.

Yelp
Was in the neighbourhood today and looking for a bite to eat at 4pm, I immediately thought of Mumbai Local as I read about this place about a year ago. At this hour of the day, it was not busy and got a table immediately. The restaurant was clean and loved the bright art mural on the wall. The menu was a good size but had a tough decision as everything sounded wonderful and this was just a quick bite! Our waiter was friendly and helpful and suggested the Kingfisher beer since it was made in India and was very hard to find in Vancouver. I informed our waiter that I once had the Kingfisher beer in India so no need to try again but my friend took the beer and I settled on the chai. The food presentation was lovely and the flavours were outstanding. I was very impressed with this little place. We ordered: Chaat Sampler: perfect for 2 people and include all the puri (deep fried bread or puffy rice served with savoury or sweet sauces). I strong suggest this as the flavours were just bursting with each bite. All the items on the sampler were vegan and there were some heat in the savoury sauce. Chicken Lollipop: chicken drumettes marinate in garlic, Schezwan chutney, onions and served with a slaw. Very tasty and want not too spicy. Mutton Kebab Pav: grilled goat patty with spices, onions, mint chutney served with a slaw. I'm not a big goat meat fan as it usually smells too gamey but this one did not. Pleasantly surprised with the nice spices. The consistency of the meat was like biting into a burger: soft and moist. We enjoyed our food and finished the evening with more chai. What was suppose to be a quick bite turned into a 2 hour slow lingering meal and didn't feel rushed out. By the time we left at 6pm, others folks were starting to arrive for dinner. I will be back to try their other dishes.

Yelp
Pav Bhaji - 3/5. The flavor was decent but not mimicking original bhajji flavor. There was odd notes of spice from paprika which did not blend into the bhajji properly..so likely its paprika sprinkled at top. Vada Pav - 4/5..Good flavor and nice bite into the bread and vada. I have tasted better so I am rating 4. Dahi Puri - 3/5. There was paprika red Chilli powder added to the top in large quantity and not spread. Also the puri was too thin for typical dahi puri. Chai - 4/5. Very good Chai flavor. It was a bit thin or watery but I liked it that specific way. Chicken Lolipop - 5/5. Very good Ambience - Excellent 5/5

Yelp
This place was refreshing. We started with a chai and their nakli chai cocktail which comes with a parle G dipped in it. Both were really good, and brought back this feeling of something so familiar but yet different. We then proceeded to the chaat sampler which seemed to be everybody's favorite in the reviews and for good reason. I would say don't skip the chaat sampler and the nakli chai!! My last dish was the mumbai chicken curry with lachcha paratha and I asked for a spicy version. It was delicious and just the right amount of pain.

Yelp
Hey it's date night Saturday. Hadn't been out for Indian in awhile! Picked a great restaurant & was excited to try it. Of course it happened to fall on 420 & with Cypress Hill in town to perform at the beach not too far from here - the streets were crowded & there was a certain type of heavy - smokey air lingering!!! Mumbai Local is located on Davie St. Lots of shops & restaurants & pubs all around. To be honest I was hesitant to try this joint. While I love spicy flavourful food - I was worried it might be to hot for me! Well I must tell you I was transported to Food Tasting Heaven! The flavours, the sauces, the presentation, the background Bhangra music = Yes Yes Yes!!!!! It was not hot - as in burn your tongue off hot - at all. Maybe I'm thinking of a different era of Indian food - way back when my mouth would be on fire & I lost all sense of taste for a week! We had Prawns Rava, Fish Aamti, Haleem & Chapati. ML delivered the meal of the month - in my books!

Nidhi K.

Yelp
The food wasn't authentic. Vada pav was the best among the dishes we ordered, but didn't have the fried Chilli to accompany the pav. Bombay Chilli toast was good too. Pav bhaji's bhaji tasted similar to Shahi paneer. It just didn't seem right. Misal pav was sweet and not very tasty either. The ambience is casual and the decor with the ceiling lights is nice. Servers were very friendly. Would've given 3.5stars if that was a possibility.

Gayan P.

Yelp
Happy to see Indian food served at a nice restaurant like this. At this point, I am more impressed by their interior than anything else. I plan to return to try their dinner menu.

Ritesh P.

Yelp
Came across this place while walking down the street and could not stop ourselves from entering. A vada pav, a chaar sampler and cutting chai is all you need to validate the Mumbai ness of this quaint eatery. The food was authentic and the music reminiscent of college days... thoroughly enjoyed Mumbai Local and am fairly certain I'll be back

Yelp
Amazing food! We had a lovely and super helpful server name, Manya. We tried the butter chicken, rice + afghani chaap along with masala chai. All were excellent! But the afghani chaap was amazing with mint sauce. Wow! Perfectly cooked, melt in your mouth chicken + so much flavour!! We will come again, for sure. We loved that it was open late, as well. Highest recommend from here!

Luke Y.

Yelp
Note: This was based on an item ordered through delivery. Price/quality (0/4): The prawns tawa masala was horrible. It tasted like it was drizzled with raw prawn water or something. Definitely something wrong there. Service (1/1): My food was delivered on time. Would I order from here again: Possibly, based on the other items on the menu.

Yelp
Recently, I've been asking friends what the best food in India is. Due to my ignorance, I was expecting answers describing curries. But no one mentioned curry. Instead, they mentioned dishes I had never heard of. This immediately renewed my interest in Indian cuisine. I was looking forward to the next time I would go to an Indian restaurant and trying dishes I've never tried before. So yesterday, I was walking up along David Street, and Mumbai Local caught my eye. Indian street food? Woah. I checked the menu posted on the window. I hadn't tried any of the dishes before. I texted my wife and told her about it, and she was interested, so after meeting up, we went back. We were greeted by a super-friendly server who explained what all the dishes were. By the way, the restaurant has a very clean and modern look to it. The cups, bowls, and plates are very cool. We went for the chili chicken dish and this kind of mutton burger (comes with 2 mini "burgers")...and wow! The chili chicken reminds me of a northern chinese mutton dish I have eaten before.. except this one is saucier and much more delicious. It's very spicy, so eat it with something that will balance that. It's mouth-watering! The mutton "burgers" are in these unique buns I have never tried before, but the texture and taste was great. The burger was yummy and you can swipe it across some sauce that's included on the dish for some coolness and spice. What a refreshing and delicious experience!

Sakshi M.

Yelp
Bang-on desi vibe in downtown Vancouver Yummilicious mumbai street food!!! Must try pav-bhaji. Vada pav. And the cutting chai is worth the temptation..

Rahul M.

Yelp
Loved the drinks, food and ambience. We tried the gulabo, a lovely take on a gin sour infused with rose syrup. Chaats including panI puri were great. We also tried their misal pav and vada pav, all authentic and reminiscent of mumbai. Wall murals and decor were amazing. Highly recommended.

Ivan L.

Yelp
Such an amazing restaurant!! Not your typical Vancouver Indian place, this one serves up some classic Mumbai small plates that are hard to find elsewhere. I checked this place out with my roommates recently and everything from the food, to the atmosphere to the service was next level. Our server was friendly, attentive and helpful in supporting us to figure out just what to order to maximize our flavour options as it was 4 of us. She even turned up the lights a little in the restaurant to help us take a photo at the end, it was a real family vibe to the place but with restaurant quality eats! The chicken lollipops, wow! You haven't lived till you try these, crispy and soft in all the right places with a flavour punch that will leave you wanting to order another round. The curries were also a win with each dish spiced noticeably uniquely for a variation in experience. Honestly one of my new favourite Indian places. You have to try this place at least once if you're looking for a unique Indian experience. Can't wait to visit again!

Yelp
On a last minute whim P and I decided to have new year eve dinner in dt. We looked on opentable and this was one of the last restaurants that still had availability. So off we went. Mumbai Local is situated right next to the club Junction and looks practically new. We got chai and had a great meal. The people working here are so friendly!!! We started with the potato burger things, which were delicious, a lil spicy and awesome. Then we did the chaat sampler and there is just so many interesting textures. Also got a potato stew thing that was super buttery, like butter chicken without the butter. We each got a dessert and both was rly great. Rose milk dessert was a stand out. The guava icecream I got was yummy too! Would definitely revisit

Veronica V.

Yelp
I ordered the Kheema Pav (zesty ground lamb), Shev Puri (potato, onions, chutney on crackers), and the Paneer Tikka (zippy paneer cheese with onions) via one of the delivery apps on the weekend. HOLY COW, was it ever delicious!!! I have to say it was some of the best Indian food I've had in a while. It was fantastic. I just went onto their website and saw that they have a weekly food delivery option called "Dabba Delivery" that sounds like a fantastic option for those who don't want to cook every day. Extremely tempting lol! I didn't take pictures because unfortunately I had inhaled most of it before I remembered. But it was seriously delicious. I'm fairly certain I will give it 5 stars when I try it out in person - I can't wait!

Yelp
On Davie near Thurlow, there among some mediocre restaurants without a real chef: Greek, Italian, exotic ... this little Indian restaurant is a true discovery that merits its distinction among best new restaurants in BC for 2019 in the Globe and Mail After more than 6 trips to India, I really appreciate Indian cuisine whether it is Radjastan, Kerala, Chennaï or Rishikesh. Here you will be amazed as soon as you enter: full of Indian customers, already a pleasant surprise, followed by a beautiful menu, not 4 pages or more but whose charming menu hold on a small page ... no fuss, no snobbery, very simple with the welcoming smile of the lovely Indian hostess who took great care of us. The Indian cuisine here is transformed, revisited, improved, with a touch of contemporary cooking, in the recipe but also in its decoration... Don't go there for a simple masala dosa ...you can find that at Davie Dosa Company where they are excellent.... For the starters we ordered Chaat Sampler, all the small puri (a delicate, flavourful puffed rice mise en bouche), various small crackers spheres that are filled with chickpeas, tamarind and date chutney. A wonderful sablefish curry that I absolutely did not expect, and to have it cooked to perfection... served with a kokum, red chili, coconut, cherry tomatoes, Ghavan A fantastic KOMBADI VADE, with chicken which was sous vide cooked, very well seasoned and delicious with its caramelized onions and coconut... of course all the breads : chapati, GhavanVade , Papadam, rice .... you have everything, as well as the charming smile of your waitress and the explanations given on each dish ordered with her advice. I was about to forget the desserts, I opted for the yoghurt with fresh fruits, mango and pineapple, lightly sweetened, something to digest easily ... This address should be at the top of your list for modern Indian cuisine in Vancouver

Yelp
The food was so original, the service outstanding - my server Shruti was so helpful. And the Chef, well it doesn't get better, Michelin level flavours, tasty and great balance of spicy and taste. Highly recommend!

Sakshi T.

Yelp
Fusion Indian Food Place Good authentic food! And great decor :) loved the serving style as well!!!

Carin B.

Yelp
Beside from their high quality and very yummy food, their service was so fast, our server was so nice and friendly which makes any done our experience different. There was complimentary chai which she insisted us to try. A must try restaurant in Davie.

Yelp
I found this restaurant through my research before our trip to Vancouver, and I believe it was highly rated by Lonely Planet. We were able to walk to the restaurant from our hotel on the edge of Stanley Park, and this is a very interesting neighborhood of Vancouver! You will see every style of international food imaginable just a couple of blocks north and south of this location. The restaurant itself is an odd narrow space, and they unfortunately do not have any outside seating. They weren't very busy on a Thursday evening, and we were able to get a high top table right in the front window. We do eat a lot of Indian food, but this menu added some variety that neither of us had not been used to. They specialize more in Indian west coast dishes, which is very unique. I'd say that it tends to lean more toward the even spicier style than most other Indian dishes. We are so used to just ordering naan with our Indian meals, this threw us for a loop not really seeing any on the menu. Our waiter walked us through the unusual bread options, and we picked the Lachha Paratha. This was an incredible rolled flatbread that looks like a spiral, most likely cooked on a hot stone. Highly recommended! I wanted a vegetarian dish, so I went with the Veg Kolhapuri. I was blown away by the spice combo in this dish, and I would call it medium-hot. I'm sure they can turn it up or down in heat by request, but I absolutely loved this dish. My wife picked a chicken curry dish that wasn't your run of the mill "butter" or tikka masala. Hers was even hotter than mine, and was cooked in sort of a dark red tomato based curry. Wasn't quite as creamy with coconut milk as I'm used to seeing, and I think we both liked the way the sauce was done even more. I would definitely go back here again for another fantastic meal.

Yelp
Mumbai Local is the most exciting new restaurant in Vancouver because it has open up a new world of flavours, ingredients and will change your views of what is Indian Cooking. ( Say goodbye butter chicken, tikka masala and hello new things !) Food: 5 Stars. The menu is inspired by Indian Street food, however the preparation and presentation is nothing short of what you get in higher end restaurants. You start with a complimentary Chai, then order tapas/shared plate style dishes that range from $7 to $21. We had 3 of the 4 different Chaat dishes - these are Indian street snacks that are crunchy, creamy, sweet, sour explosions in your mouth. We ordered the Prawns Rava , Seekh Kebab, Chicken Lolipop all great for sharing. Then a few mains Kombadi Vade ( sous vide chicken with the best south curry sauce I have ever tasted) and the Fish Aamit - if you are a fan of sable fish, its perfectly cooked and amazing value. Atmosphere the restaurant is casual, bright, friendly you can come for date or in a mid-sized 4-6 person group. On weekends they are starting to get line ups so we came on Tuesday at 8pm and were able to get seated right away. They have beer and amazing cocktails too!!!

Heather M.

Yelp
Nice take on Indian food I'll admit I expected to see lots of curry on the menu but actually it was more of a Chinese Indian fusion with spices such as Sichuan and Manchurian - "street food" They served us taster sized cups of chai We ordered the dry Manchurian but actually it is with sauce so be careful about that. It still tasted good nonetheless more of a sweet-and-sour type of chicken not breaded. (They may call it dried chicken because it is pieces of chicken breast ?) Over all we really enjoyed each dish- but I think my favourite street snack was the crispy puffed rice mixed with crunchy baked lentils and mango mint chutney yoghurt inside. Not to mention a really awesome wall piece design that covers the whole back wall with an authentic Indian show playing on their TV Next time I'd like to catch them at lunch between 11am-3p to try the four layered tiffin box

Preeti S.

Yelp
We were stoked to check this place out as it showed up on my Instagram feed. Fresh addition on Davie street area, we thought to check it out when one day we didn't wanted to sit in traffic after work. Worth rating A for effort and creativity however do need some work in a most positive way. We ordered few things such as Seekh kebab Pototo pao Dahi poori and this dish is something to mention here for sure it was that delicious. Yes dahi poori, stuffed balls with yogurt' mixture. One dish that we did notice everyone was ordering was chilli chicken which of course upon asking the server lady didn't mention else we could have tried that. Try it if you can else you are not going to miss much. Will give it a try may be in summer if they up there game.

Yelp
I've always said that if I could only eat one cuisine the rest of my life it would be either Indian or Mexican. Why do I open this review that way? So you'll know what sort of praise it is when I say that, hands down, Mumbai Local is my new favorite Indian restaurant in Vancouver. In fact it's shot to the top of my favorite restaurants in Vancouver list! I'd heard the restaurant described as one that serves Mumbai street food but I can only imagine that this is street food elevated, as frankly I've eaten in far pricier and more "upscale" restaurants that weren't half as delicious or any better plated. My dinner companion and I are sharers so we went with one main and a variety appetizers, eating sort of tapas style. We began with the Chaat Sampler with two each of the three various Chaat Mumbai Local serves. Each of them burst with flavor and was a revelation. From the first bite (and you consume each in one large bite rather than risk making a mess) there was the promise of something special. By the time I'd finished the third I was supremely confident the entire meal was going to deliver on that promise. Next up were the Pravns Rava Fry. You get six prawns in total, and while I'd have delighted in these in just about any other restaurant, they were the low point of the meal. Don't get me wrong, they were exactly as promised and delicious, but these breaded prawns were something I might be able to get elsewhere. The accompanying citrus kokum (I want to call it salsa, for lack of a better description) and the mint yogurt complemented it nicely. I ate one prawn without any accompaniment for comparison, and wished I'd had the good sense to smear it as I had the other two I had. When I said this was the "low point of the meal" I meant that everything else amazed. This was merely really good. At more than a few other restaurants in the neighbourhood something this good would have been the standout of the meal! The main we decided to split was the Kheema Pav, minced goat meat with whole spices, green peas, egg yolk, onion and "pav." The word curry appears nowhere on the Mumbai Local menu, but this was an epitome of the dish. Often the curry dishes at restaurants are a bright but monochrome, with the ingredients identifiable most easily by shape before they're consumed. But rather than coming all mixed as we're used to, each of the ingredients here occupied a clear space in the bowl. Even as I swirled it all together before we dug in I could appreciate just what had gone into the meal in a way I would not have had we not seen the meal in it's slightly deconstructed form. The final dish to arrive at our table, excepting desert, was the Chicken Tikka Kebab. We'd been warned this would take longer than the rest of our meal, and it worth the wait. Too often chicken kebabs arrive just slightly dryer than they should be, but these were moist, succulent, and flavorful. Though it was clear we'd ordered more than enough food for two already I was still tempted to get another kebab, and frankly it was only time constraints (it would have been another 15 minutes or more) that reigned me in. Their online menu doesn't list their deserts, but I can tell you we had two. The ice cream over rose milk was delicious, but SWEET, and yes, the all capitalization is required. While enjoyable it was a good thing two of us were splitting it as neither would have been able to finish it on our own. The other desert we had was a sort of cake with a mango sauce, pistachio and peanut. It's a desert worth dropping in for all on its own. Finally, I should mention that we both opened and closed our experience with their turmeric milk. This is a steamed milk that came in espresso sized cups, and in addition to the turmeric also contained a variety of other spices. I don't know that I could put my name to them, though a few fronds of saffron made that taste all the more identifiable. I can heartily recommend it, and if on a future visit I can persuade the chef to part with its particular recipe I'll be trying to prepare it regularly at home. I've tried two recipes found on the internet already, and neither compared. All in all five stars. Even saying that I feel like I should be going back and adjusting some of my other starred reviews down--Mumbai Local was one of my best dining out experiences in years, and hands down my best one of 2020. I can't wait to go back!

Yelp
I have ordered from the restaurant a lot of times now. I had an issue during one orders which was sorted out later on. The food here is amazing. I highly recommend vada pav, keema pav and pav bhaji. These are my go to orders. My 18 months old loves their keema pav. I'm waiting for the special thali as it's amazing.

Yelp
We stopped in for lunch, totally unprepared for how awesome this would be! They were serving a special thali menu to celebrate Diwali. A thali platter combines small samples of curry with rice, chapati, and traditional beverages. $21 for Veg or $25 for Non-veg options. They have a regular menu as well. What I loved: very friendly service, delicious food, great value, the chef came to each table to explain how the curries and other dishes represent different regions of India, cozy casual atmosphere, AND last but not least, the very funny South Asian drama/comedy that was showing on the high-def TV that totally distracts from the wait time for our food. I will definitely return with a larger group! The thali plates are not part of their regular menu but will appear whenever there are festival to be celebrated.

Yelp
So, we were in Vancouver in search of some good homely and flavourful food and we went here for dinner. We ordered Keema Pav and Vada Pav- and both were the best in taste we have had so far on the west coast. We also got complimentary masala chai which was again very good (even better for the fact that it was raining outside). For the desserts we ordered Falooda-which wasn't as good, the only reason we didn't like it was because for the base they had plain uncooked milk(at least it tasted like) whereas Falooda has nice boiled and thickened milk for base. Talking about the service- we had an awesome time getting served by the female server. She did a great job. Overall, this place is a must go for all mumbai local eats cravers. We would definitely come from Seattle to Vancouver just for your Vada Pav

Yelp
Recreating memories of good old Mumbai, one dish at a time. Excellent and authentic food selection.

Yelp
This place is amazing. The servers are polite, witty and funny, the food is absolutely amazing. Prepare your tastebuds for a fucking rollercoaster. (also try the deserts!) Our table ordered about half the menu and nothing disappointed. I live a few blocks away and I don't know why I waited so long to try it . Authentic Mumbai eats at a great price in a great space. 10/10

Yelp
We heard so much about this restaurant, so we wanted to try. We were highly disappointed with the food. My family was the only one in the restaurant, however, the food took forever to come and the taste was nowhere close to what was expected. I ordered Keema Pav, they served 2 smallest Pav you could imagine, I then had to order 2 more plates of Pav and 2 chapatis. Still left hungry, as the portions were too small for the price I paid. My family ordered 3 other items and we were disappointed with overall experience. Will never go back to this restaurant again.

Yelp
Mumbai Local offers a good ambience, friendly service, and a simple authentic menu, but their dishes lack flavor and taste. We went for dinner early on a Sat evening, and were greeted and seated promptly. Upon asking for a high chair, we were informed they don't have one. Fortunately, our stroller fit in the spacious aisle. While enjoying cutting chai, we ordered pav bhaji, chaat platter, paneer tikka and dal khichdi. Chaat platter had two counts of each of their chaats - pani puri, dahi puri, sev puri and bhel puri. I liked dahi puri the best, followed by pani puri (served with two flavors of pani) and sev puri. The bhel puri was a let down - it didn't taste fresh and lacked flavor. The paneer tikka was average; it was served with green chutney and marinated onion but I expected the paneer to be juicier and the flavor to be more "chatpata". Pav bhaji was the biggest disappointment for us - flavors were completely off and we didn't enjoy it. While I am not a big fan of khichdi is general, our toddler loved the dal khichdi, which was a relief. If she was writing this review, she would give Mumbai Local five stars (didn't have to sit in a high chair and got great khichdi!). The staff is attentive and nice, but were a tad bit keen to clean up at the end. We'll probably skip Mumbai Local next time we are in Vancouver but if you in the mood for some Mumbai chaat, check it out (but skip the bhel puri).

Yelp
Tried it for the street food and had the chat sampler which consists of behl puri, pani puri, dahi puri, and shev puri (cracker) and we agreed we liked 2 out of the 4: dahi and sev puri but one of them, shev was too sweet because of the date chutney which is pretty uncommon but credit for trying it make it healthy sweet.

Yelp
Love this place. Went there for lunch but it was so good had to return in the evening again. Got the misal pav and dabba with mutton rassa for lunch. Both were amazing. Ordered couple of things in the evening vada pav - 3/5 was good but the filling could use some more salt. The chaat sampler - 4/5.. very good although the puris are not the sooji ones .. they were kind of like fryums. Dahi puri -4/5 Darga gully kabab pav - 4/5 Would definitely come back again during my next visut to the city.

Yelp
We were introduced to this place by our friends with whom we were visiting Vancouver. The decor is very cute. I was happy to see the picture of Mumbai's famous dabbawala on the wall painted. We ordered vada pav + missal pav + paneer tikka + sev batata puri +moong daal tikki. Everything was good. A little on the expensive side.

Yelp
I read the reviews and hoped to venture into the "Dream City" and ended up with a nightmare. This place prides itself as a place that caters to your palate with authentic Mumbai dishes but is a far cry from anything remotely "Mumbai local". We ordered pav bhaji, misal pav and Bhel puri and to say it was horrendous was an understatement. It was way too salty and was such small quantity and the outrageous price made it feel like taking a shrapnel to your gut. When we walked in with our kid they let us know they did not have high chairs but they did not help us out in any way and let us figure out a place and accommodate ourselves, that's just savage customer service if your running any form of hotel/eatery. The waitress had no idea of the drinks and brought the wrong drink when we ordered something. Ambience: Fair Parking: Fair Service: Bad Food: Pathetic Price: Food for four can cost you an Infinity Gem Overall: Not worth it!

Yelp
Atmosphere: Very local hipster feel to it. I love the art work on the wall which was the first thing that grabbed my attention. It's an interesting feel to the place. There is some seating inside. Normally I would make this a grab and go situation, however, decided to stay since the ambiance is nice. Location: Close to the hospital and bus route. Very accessible. Price: Very reasonable main dishes and respectable extra charges for simple add on's. Market Value. Customer Service: Super friendly. They were beyond friendly and I could tell that there was a sense of pride that they had in the establishment which made me want to love the place more. Food: I had the Masala Toast and some Chicken Pops. The toast was a nice change from my everyday avocado toast. Both dishes had a lot of flavor in them. The chicken was nicely prepared. I liked the idea of the toast. There was a good amount of toppings and spices.

Yelp
Popped in on a weeknight with a friend and I'm so glad I did! This place has been on my radar for a couple weeks. We ordered the Dahi Puri, Chicken Lollipop and Fish Aamti. The chicken lollipops were small but tender, I was glad that it wasn't a wet/saucy wing and the fresh shaved veg underneath was great for a hot summer evening. The Dahi Puri is a crispy Puri "bun" stuffed with potato, sweet onion, chickpea (shev) and a tamarind chili chutney and topped with cool yogurt. I loved this so much! A wonderful explosion of flavor and I was so pleased that I could taste each ingredient. Love love love! The Fish Aamti was also such a delight! My friend thought the sauce was a little thin...but I thought it was fine. It could have used a kick of seasoning or heat tho. Over all we loved the dish though! Sablefish was perfect, the rice pancake was stretchy and airy and great with the fish and onion. Get everything on the spoon and it composed the perfect bite! Service was wonderful and the atmosphere is easy and inviting. I can't wait to go back and try more!
