HORRIBLE EXPIERENCE I have never felt so uncomfortable in a restaurant establishment than when I went to Munch, Inc. I ordered the avocado hummus wrap that says on the website that it comes with a tomato basil wrap (see attached photo). However, when I picked it up, it came with a traditional flour tortilla (photo attached). I called the restaurant and told them what happened. The person on the phone told me they have been serving that wrap with a traditional/regular flour tortilla for years. I mentioned that the website has a different description than what I was served. After a couple minutes of back and forth, the restaurant employee told me that if I bring the wrap back to the restaurant I would be given a refund. I drove back and was given a refund. As the employee was issuing my refund, I was told that if I wanted to order from here again that I should call from a different phone number. This made me feel very uncomfortable. Why would the front desk employee say this to a customer? What is the owner going to track my number and mess with my food for not getting what was advertised? I'm not going to find out as I will not support a business that basically threatens patrons who speak up when they did not get their order that was advertised.

My go to meal for many years has been the nachos. However, I recently decided to try something different...the vegan gyro. Disclaimer, I am "not" a vegan but do enjoy certain vegan dishes. With that out the way, I will say that the gyro was tasty. Not 100% my thing so I will be going back to the nachos, but those who are completely vegan and accustomed to the different alternate meat substitutes may find the item satisfying :). UPDATE 2/4/25- Just found out today they are permanently closed...sad face.

Google
Maybe I ordered the wrong thing but I found the food mid especially given the price. I got the mushroom polenta appetizer and the vegan gyro with a side of cucumber salad. It was nutritious, looked good and was cooked through but just lacked the flavor I expected. Good enough to finish but I probably wouldn’t go back again. The cucumber salad was by far the standout of my meal. Very attentive service and cute location.

Google
My first time here, and I have a wonderful experience. Our server, Arie was very very accommodating, sweet, and friendly! Ordered soul bowl, wild mushroom polenta, vegan lasagna, and vegan brownie sundae. All were very tasty! Everything here are vegan and vegetarian friendly! This is a cash dining restaurant, so make sure to bring cash. :) Highly recommend for vegan and vegetarian folks! Will definitely come back again!

Google
I got the soup of the day, lasagna and a milkshake. Came out quickly. Very kind employees! They all seemed very stressed out though, but I wasn't sure what about. The food was very tasty but hurt my sensitive stomach. Portions are fair for the price. Wouldn't call it a deal. Made for a very cute date spot!

Google
THIS PLACE IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Their food is to die for, the staff is super sweet, and they are timely. My mother is not vegan but she loved it and now can’t stop recommending the restaurant to anyone that breaths near her. Thank you for the lovely experience! <3

Google
Food that pleases the eye and the palate! The ingredients are so fresh and you just feel good eating a meal at Munch. I am not a vegetarian, but I didn’t miss the meat. I love the restaurant’s location on Marion Street because taking the option to eat outside is like eating in a little sidewalk café in Paris or even Québec City. The staff was very friendly and you get a very nice sized portion of food for your money. It is cash only, but there’s an ATM inside for a fee of $1. Lots of reasonably priced paid parking around.

Google
Delicious, take the time and enjoy a vegan meal at Munch's. Was skeptical at 1st, since I am not a vegan but my wife is starting to transition to it. So after a lost battle, accompanied her. Well was I surprised.

Yelp
Amazing food and staff. Every time I dine alone, I always meet friendly people, whether they are staff or other customers. this was months ago, but a staff member made a comment and said I look like a "unsung hero". It has to be top three best compliments anyone's ever given me. Much love!

Yelp
Had a delicious, colorful, filling salad. Lots of interesting beverages too, including non-alcoholic options. Staff very friendly and attentive. Vibe inside is fun and trendy.

Yelp
Service with music and a smile! Add a totally vegan menu and you have Munch! We live an hour away but we're definitely going back because the menu is full of dishes we want to try. I just wish the desserts were healthier because I can't eat agave (too sweet).

Yelp
Amazing black bean burger with mixed greens salad. Burger was delicious, huge and a good temperature upon arriving home. Did pick-up order.

Yelp
Cute small vegan restaurant in located in Oak Park. A place that serves vegetarian/vegan dishes and smoothies. A BYOB cafe that has a sidewalk seating area. Once you walk inside you will feel at home. Very beautiful inside. Whoever decorated this place did an amazing job. The assignment was well executed. I came on a Friday afternoon and there were a few people inside. I'm not sure if they were short staffed. There was only one young lady running around trying to serve. I had to wait awhile before my order was taking. And even longer waiting on my order. The blue bliss smoothie had no taste. I tasted no blueberries, coconut yogurt or banana. The large coconut sprinkles on top were a waste. The prices are too high for bland tasting food/drinks. 3 Star Review is split 1\2 between the decor (love the seating area) and the young lady who was nice. Despite she needed more help.

Yelp
Munch has such a beautiful atmosphere to sit and have lunch. Incredibly tasty vegan food. Kind staff. My favorite menu item is the BLT - highly recommend it!

Yelp
What a lovely and friendly place! Shoutout to our server, Lo, who was sooo nice. Came with my best friend who is vegan and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal. So fresh and delicious! It is also BYOB ;) there are so many menu items I want to come back and try. I would also buy a jar of their vegan tzatziki if I could - really good! You will enjoy this regardless If you are vegan or not!!!

Yelp
The food was great! I got a strawberry shake, vegan gyro and the poblano burrito! All vegan! Strawberry shake: a dream come true for my lactose intolerant friends Vegan gyro: so tasty and savoury! Did not miss the meat at all. The veggies on top were really crisp and fresh too. Poblano burrito: not my favorite. Too mushy for me and just didn't have that strong flavor that you look for in latin foods. Service was ok. The server seemed new and eager to serve, but could use more practice at reading social cues instead of checking off her checklist. The art is interesting and not my taste. I would label it as eclectic... The dining room is small and can fill up quickly on a weekend.

Yelp
Best vegan gyro I've ever had! Even my mom was impressed (meat eater, gyro enthusiast). She wasn't so sure I didn't have actual lamb in my meal friendly staff and nice cozy environment as well! I come here every time I'm in the area because no other gyro I've tried comes close! (Potatoes were good too)

Yelp
The inside is small and comfortable outside seating. The food is delightful and has something for everyone, even if eating with someone who is not plant based eater. The service is quick and efficient, getting our order right and attention to detail.

Yelp
ORDER TYPE: Dine-in MEAL: Lunch MY ORDER EXPERIENCE: After visiting some vegan/vegetarian restaurants lately, those restaurants drove me to Munch, Inc and it was also an Earth Day weekend. We picked this place for lunch because Me and my friend visited the Ernest Hemingway Museum close by. It was my first time at the restaurant and when I entered the restaurant, I felt like it was going to be a perfect healthy lunch. The ambience had a fresh vibe with a lot of plants and nice decor. The place was already full of limited seating and as the weather was perfect, we opted to eat at the outdoor seating. The waiter handed over the menu and it took for a while for him to come back to take our order, but the food arrived very soon. I ordered Vegan Gyro for my wrap and Roasted Beets as my side. I got both my orders at the same time and the food looked fresh. The Vegan Gyro is made from homemade Israel Pita with their signature vegan Tzatziki sauce on the side and the Pita was loaded with seasoned Middle Eastern herbs, tomato, lettuce, cucumbers, and red onions. It was tasty and was like a quick grab. The Roasted Beets were good too. Overall, the food and place were cute, and good customer service. We just enjoyed our lunch outdoors. It was a great lunch because the weather was perfect, and I had a healthy lunch for a reasonable price. I did not have to look twice because it was all vegan/vegetarian. They were using reusable utensils, vegan, gluten free, gender-neutral restrooms. It was a perfect restaurant to go to on an Earth Day weekend. I would like to try their shakes, smoothies etc. when I visit next time. I would recommend this place. CONS: It would have been nice if they had a reservation policy because one must wait until the tables are cleared or if the place is crowded The place is small to accommodate large groups

Yelp
It was cold, dark January night and I was hungry. We stumbled into Munch and found the warmest welcome from Nash and team, along with a cozy curry that filled us right up. Will be back to try more dishes!

Yelp
This is my favorite vegan restaurant bar none. I have been working my way through this menu for a while now and have tried nearly everything they have to offer. It's like each bite gets better than the last. They are doing wondrous things in that kitchen because every dish is incredibly flavorful and well-seasoned. Sometimes with meat substitutes, the taste is there but will fall short in texture or appearance. Munch checks every box on this front and I guarantee you can bring your non-vegan friends here and they will be impressed if not converted! There are truly not enough words that can fully encapsulate how much I love coming here. Whether you dine indoors or outside, the service is going to be excellent. It is quaint, charming and has really been such a comfort to me all these years

Yelp
Amazing food. Served quickly. I evened asked if the music was their regular playlist because they were playing smooth jazz. Very clean and the staff was friendly.

Yelp
I hate giving a vegan place a bad review but I just so wish they could do better being the only vegan place in oak park! I've tried several dishes here and everything is mediocre in flavor. Lasagna and gyros are both so meh and I've had some great vegan versions of those dishes but not at Munch. Tried an Oreo shake and a Rice Krispie treat today and it may have put me off the place forever. First off, those two items cost $18.... I get it, it's vegan food and if it was good I wouldn't care but they were both so bad. The shake tasted like sweet soy milk, no other flavor, very watered down. The Rice Krispie treat tasted almost savory and the texture was off. I really want to like them but I'm always let down. Do yourself a favor and get a chicago diner shake instead, it's delicious AND cheaper.

Yelp
Munch is one of my favorite places to eat. It's truly the only restaurant of its kind, in my area! The food is freshly prepared everyday, and you can tell. Not to mention, the ambiance and staff are fun and lively. I recommend that you try this vegan/vegetarian restaurant.

Yelp
I had the organic lemonade which was delicious and the vegan supreme nacho w/vegan brownie which were ALL AMAZING! Their service was awesome as well!

Yelp
Sweet, intimate cafe in downtown Oak Park with friendly staff and delicious food. I found something I loved on my first visit, the enormous juicy beet burger kale salad, and have been coming back to split that with a friend at their summer sidewalk tables for years. That way we save room for a vegan root beer float! Last week I was in the mood for something to chase away the winter cold and tried the "chicken" parmesan with fettuccine. I was in heaven. It was rich and flavorful - and tasted just like chicken- but not too spicy and the portion size was big enough to split or take some home. Although I love the cozy artsy atmosphere and hibiscus tea, they seem to have a lot of customers who dash in and pick up their orders at the counter. So happy this gem of a place is helping the climate by serving amazing vegan and vegetarian food!

Yelp
While the people there were super friendly and the ambiance was nice, why did I pay $42 (including tip) for a black bean burger and an ice cream brownie sundae?? I mean, seriously? The burger was fine, and the ice cream on the sundae had a yummy flavor/texture. However, the brownie was hard as a rock. My friend and I ordered our entrees and desserts, and our desserts came out first? Since we both ordered items with ice cream in them, we started to eat them. Shortly after, our entrees came out. So then, to prevent the ice cream from melting, we had to eat both at the same time. It was strange to see them serve dessert before the entree. Also, the payments they accept and their hours were confusing. On their menu, it says "cash only," and they even have an ATM in their restaurant. Then, our server informed us that they can accept cards. While this is helpful (because who has just cash anymore?), it was confusing. Also, the hours on their website, Google, and Apple Maps all say different things. I had to call the restaurant, and it turns out the hours on their website were incorrect. Overall, I'm not going to jump at the chance to return to Munch--maybe to try one of their vegan milkshakes one day, but that's it.

Yelp
Gia was an absolute darling of a server. She was kind and attentive. Answered all of our questions. Gave honest opinions and reviews about the dishes. She went above and beyond. Food was amazing. Highly recommend. Nash came out towards the end of our meal, during dessert and he brought the mood up! He was wonderful to talk to. Wows guest with his bubbly personality.

Yelp
Service is slow, place is small in size definitely don't go on the weekends but the food is good.

Yelp
Seriously amazing vegan & vegetarian food. Everything we had was great. And they were very accommodating to food allergies. Not many seats, but it's super cute. Very clean. Friendly staff.
google avatar

Yelp
Not sure what place offered pick up and doesn't include a fork with a salad when in the order ... really bad impression for my first visit and a waste of my time and everyone else's when you can't simply put a fork in the Togo bag ... something that simple to avoid a 2 star review might have been a 5 star
google avatar

Yelp
What a cute little vegan restaurant! There were these cute decor cushions made for comfy seating and plants that really brought life to the place. The waitress was also very accommodating and friendly. Though it was slightly on the pricier side, as everything came to about $105 ish after tip, I would say it was pretty good for the fresh, healthy, and mostly delicious food you're getting. The nachos Supremo was pretty ordinary, it tasted like the nachos you would get at any restaurant even though it was vegan. It was pretty good. The black bean burger was not my favorite compared to the other stuff. It tasted bland and dry. There wasn't any accompanying sauce so I had to drench it in ketchup for there to be any flavors and for it to be moist. I'm so sad to not have liked the vegan gyro as much as I thought I would've. For some reason, the seitan is weirdly sweet in addition to the Tzatziki sauce. It is definitely not something I would order again. I would also stay away from the vegan coffee float, It is not worth $10. It tasted like diluted coffee with a subtle cream flavor. However, the Kale Cesar salad was phenomenal. I literally could not stop eating it. The sauce was creamy and paired really well with the toppings. I highly recommend it if you're looking for salad as opposed to all the other items on the menu. I would be back for the salad! I also did not like how it was cash only. There was no sign stating such. 1/3 friends bought cash and it left us scrambling to figure out how to pay.

Yelp
Quaint, high quality and delicious. From the moment you walk in ur hit with a vibe. Super chill but high energy. Went at lunch on a Sunday and it was great! Everyone got something different and everyone was sharing because of how awesome the meals were. Only downside was the price was a little high. But it's downtown oak park and more of a specialty type of food. I was so excited to try it and legit was not let down!! Totally would recommend! Will be back for more!

Faith E.

Yelp
Gia was an excellent server! She was extremely knowledgeable about the menu and was able to answer all my questions about flavor and portion size. We ordered the nachos and soup to start, which always impress. I ordered the tacos al pastor, which were flavorful! My friend ordered the gyro, which she thoroughly enjoyed as well. As I write this review, we await our brownie sundae and milkshake, which I'm sure, will be wonderful as well (: UPDATE: Nash, 'the desert man', hand delivered our milkshake with engaging stories and a smile! See the photo of the brownie sundae !

Yelp
Great news!!!!! Munch now accepts credit cards! Since this was a major problem for me, looks like I will be going back. Btw, the hummus avocado wrap is to die for! And so are the fried potatoes!

Yelp
Food: 5/5 Atmosphere: 5/5 Food: This place is trying to win my heart as the best Vegan restaurant in Illinois ! It's in Oak Park which is a little far for me but it's definitely worth the drive if you want some amazing vegan food. The grilled cheese was OUT OF THIS WORLD! How did they do that?! The lentil soup was soooo yummy and warm and just comforting. The lasagna had so much flavor it'll drive you crazy! Atmosphere: They have an outside patio, which is perfect during the pandemic. The service was awesome and the waitress made great suggestions! You have to pay for parking but when do you in the chi?! 10/10 would recommend!
google avatar

Jen M.

Yelp
I went here for lunch with an old college friend and got the Pozole, and my lord was it amazing! The atmosphere is quaint, and the servers are super friendly. Can't wait to take my daughter here. So good!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
The only reason I'm giving it 3 stars is because they no longer do brunch (minus one star) and they don't have a lot of GF options. I think there were like 3 things. So not a lot of GF options (minus another star). Service is slow, they maybe will have two waitresses. Also, they only accept cash, so just a heads up if you are going there. It's a small place, so just be aware.

Anne L.

Yelp
Returned to Munch last night as a party of four and was reminded how lucky we are to have this gem of a restaurant in Oak Park! Laid back vibe, outstanding service (thank you, Nash!!), and great food. Kiddos got kid's cheese pizzas (one with vegan cheese, the other traditional mozzarella), niece had the Soul Bowl, and I had the Hippy Hemp Seed Salad (minus dressing because of the garlic) --the salad is so good and chock full of flavor you don't even need the dressing. Hot King Crimson hibiscus teas all around. We ended with marshmallow fluff brownie (choc). Didn't even taste vegan. Delish!! And they now take credit cards. So helpful! Will be back soon!

Claire P.

Yelp
Zero stars! Not customer friendly (just for mentioning my order was wrong and that the dish I was brought did not smell right) hostile, poor service, QUESTIONABLE FOOD HANDLING AND STORAGE . Not worth the $ or possibility of a sickness. Food is clearly microwaved but they will say otherwise - I was swatting gnats/fruit flies most of the time I was there( that should have been enough to leave, smh) I've also come to learn that this place purposely seeks undocumented people to employ and end up withholding their wages. I was told by an employee that the kitchen staff does not hold their IL food handlers/Sanitation license & how the owners hold the undocumented employees legal status as leverage to short their checks or worse extend an "IOU" that can last weeks. Absolute trash, throw the whole establishment away!

Gregory P.

Yelp
This is a beautiful, vegan restaurant on leafy, walkable Marion Street in Oak Park. You'll love the artwork and the music. If you like good food, good vibes, and pleasant, comfortable seating indoors and outside (when it's warm) then this is your jam. Yes, it's vegan, but nothing calls your attention to it, nor away from it. Good food served by good folk. We started with the Italian lentil soup, which was fulsome and savory. Truly some of the best lintel soups we have had. Then we were on to the Buffalo "Chicken" wrap, their special of the day. It tasted like any other chicken wraps, only much better. It had a little Mexican thing going on with it, which for this place was a little surprising and kept us biting. The Hippy Hemp salad was mouth watering. Their root beer was made with honey sweetener (if I remember correctly) and was so delicious it left me longing for summer, when I shall try their root beer float. Check this place out.

Yelp
Wow, wow, wow. What an amazing experience; food and service! Our server was top notch. We would go back again and again just for her alone! We haven't been pampered like that in YEARS! We picked every one of her recommendations as far as food and drinks and so ecstatic we did. The CBD Vybes pineapple beverage was amazing! Our server went above and beyond by making our 10 year old a drink off menu. Maybe she'll whip up a lemonade hibiscus tea for you too! Now for FOOD! Fantastic sweet potato soup! Don't miss out if they have this when you're there. The Lasagna was just as tasty as it was beautiful. The addition of eggplant really made the dish. I got the mushroom and greens polenta with sweet potato mash. So good! The wine reductions sauce was perfection. Though I do have to say the kale tahini garlic caesar was probably my favorite. Everything that hit the table looked so delicious that our family just decided to share every dish out of fairness. Such an incredible feast! After dinner each of us had a full and happy belly. That did not, however, stop us from eyeing the vegan desserts on display. The vegan brownie just had to come home with us! Thank you Munch for our family's new favorite dining spot!

Yelp
I love this restaurant but cannot find an online presence that reflects their menu accurately. When I called the first time, they acknowledged the problem and said it related to the death of the owner which kept them from accessing things to update. They suggested I go to Grub Hub or Door Dash to get the accurate menu. I did and then called back in to place my order (wanted some menu modifications not readily available through Grub Hub), I was put on interminable hold. I finally hung up. They have permanently lost me as a customer and we used to order from them often. Nice people; TERRIBLE SERVICE.

Brunell K.

Yelp
i'be been to Munch before had a very tasty good meal. I have even had the beet burger which was very good . ordered myself some lunch today tried the beet burger again it was awful didn't taste like a beet burger at all taste more like those vegan burger from target the bun was dry. I was totally disappointed an charged 19.00 dollars .
google avatar

Eric K.

Yelp
First time here. Went with a friend that had been here before. We got the Beet Burger and the "Chicken" Poblano Burrito. We also each got a beer. The bill was under $50.00 total, which was great! How often does that happen these days at a nice sit-down vegan joint? The burrito was mostly made out of jackfruit, and it had a great flavor! Put the salsa it comes with on the burrito. It adds a nice heat. I did not try the beet burger, but my friend assured me that it was delicious. I can't wait to go back and try more items. Lots of delicious to explore.

Karen O.

Yelp
The food is excellent. My friends and I have tried nearly everything over the past few years and have never been disappointed. Both the badass beet burger and black bean burger are great. Try the specials. The side dishes are great. The kale salad is superb. Try the soy ice cream with decadent toppings. It's delicious. Servers Nash and Vivian both go the extra mile with their attentiveness. All the servers we've ever had there have been super friendly without being intrusive. Support this local business and do your health a favor at the same time.

Raluchi U.

Yelp
I loved the food it was fantastic! Everybody there was nice and especially the waiter Nash, I loved his energetic playful attitude! 5 stars for Nash!!

Barbara W.

Yelp
Nash gives best service with a big smile every time. Lasagna is fabulous. Great variety of vegan choices. Fun and tasty!

E J.

Yelp
Good food overall. The prices are too high and one particular staff member and the chef are regularly being rude. This particular visit I had the gift of oak park gift cards and they abruptly told me very rudely (as if I did something wrong) that they will no longer provide change in cash or card for them and provided no reasoning why. They accepted them one week prior and gave me cash so not sure what changed. It states on the cards very clearly change should be given in cash or gift card. Regardless though if there is a policy change please explain why to the customer and try not to be rude for no reason.

Yelp
This place shows you that eating healthy can be fun and delicious! I ordered the polenta and wild mushroom and it was delicious. The greens were very good and I LOVED the mashed sweet potato as a side. The smoothies are delicious. I tried the healing greens which is a banana, kale, apple, celery, and cucumbers and the banana and kale stand out. My partner got the Ginger coconut pizzazz which is seasonal berries, coconut, and yogurt and is very refreshing!

Elen C.

Yelp
Munch was an outstanding local restaurant with fabulous vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. There is outdoor seating available that is pet friendly and the staff is really nice. Be patient, it's slow service as they are short staffed like most. Also, it's a cash only facility so come prepared but it's worth the effort!

Tim P.

Yelp
This is a quaint little spot but is very comfortable and offers a very fresh menu. Our server was welcoming and quick to offer options and service. We ended up sharing the vegan gyro with kale side salad and the mushroom polenta - both amazing and very fresh. We capped it off with a vegan milkshake and now look forward to returning again!

Tecole T.

Yelp
Munch restaurant is amazing the customer service is excellent Nash took our orders he was professional he explained everything to us the food was delicious me and my sisters really enjoyed Munch my younger sister did a Togo order the food was seasoned to perfection Thank you Munch you made our Saturday outgoing awesome

Yelp
Was in downtown Oak Park and tried here. The Vegan Gyros was excellent. Super fresh pita and veggies. The gyros seitan was better than I thought it would be. Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Sidewalk cafe was great for a Friday afternoon in the summer. Will definitely return when I'm there again.

Abbigale C.

Yelp
Great restaurant to have a healthy lunch. I had the quinoa salad, and it was delicious. It was very fresh and had citrus notes in the dressing. The service here is also good. Can't wait to try more items especially off of the drink menu.

Darlene L.

Yelp
Nash was an excellent waiter. He friendly and funny and added to the ambiance of the evening. Food was excellent too!

Yelp
Let me just make a list... - vegan Nachos - tostadas - burger salad - all the soup! - pozole - cookie dough ice cream - it's all delicious! Love you MUNCH!

Yelp
Despite all the hype this place gets, it fell far short of even my reserved expectations. The beet burger was flavorless and came stacked with two, half inch thick slices of industrial grade tomatoes. A very scant few thin slices of avocado and no dressing or sauce. Just a dry beet burger with flavorless tomatoes. I'm not trying to be picky here, but a vegetarian/vegan restaurant should probably be aiming a slight bit higher here. Atmosphere is nice and the staff is very friendly. This is just a review of my experience going there one time.
