Municipal Museum of Modern Art

Free museum in the heart of Cuenca. Pairs well with a trip to August 8 market and Calderon Park for a free day of activities. The museum has some interesting installations. This is not a large exhibit. Around 30 minutes should suffice. It is wheelchair accessible and is well suited for people with mobility issed and children. Backpacks and large bags need to be checked at the door. There are lockers at the front desk free of charge to store your bag. Check in with the guard at the entrance for entry in to the museum. Good choice for a rainy day.

It's a beautiful museum with lots of paintings and other works of art, mostly Ecuadorian. The building and gardens are beautiful and you can chill on the grass. I spent around 40 minutes there. The admission is free, and they have lockers to put your backpack or valuables.

This was unexpectedly special visit. The building itself is rich with history and stories. The art is local and very relevant to today with meaningful subjects. It is not overdone with artwork so you can appreciate the quality of what you experience. Also not crowded!

Quaint little local art museum. The building itself and the gardens are definitely worth it. The was a large temporary exhibition about local recycling - interesting yet not my taste - as well as other artists residencies that caught my eye. Definitely an area to go see if you’re in Cuenca.

I really enjoyed checking out this art museum. The art is unique, and the building and grounds are beautiful. I couldn’t believe it’s free—it’s got so much to see and enjoy.

Interesting building that houses interesting modern art from local artists. Formally a prison, the art is spread out in many rooms, that were formally prison cells. It has a nice sculpture garden to sit in. And is located next to a surprisingly nice plaza, with a variety of stores and restaurants.

Fun place to visit. My kids enjoyed the kids corner where they got to color some pictures.

Simply put, this place is a gem! The building itself is lovely to walk through and the curators and planners have made brilliant use of the space to showcase an excellent variety of high quality art in a variety of media. Highly recommended. I’ll be back many times.
