My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at the Muntri Grove. I was there for an event, and it was near, but not on, a list provided of recommended hotels in George Town's historic district near the event, but from what I could gather, it was both more affordable and probably superior to the ones that were recommended! We were greeted by a very friendly staff member on check-in, and found the room to be great. It was spacious, with a wonderful high ceiling and ceiling fan and just a wonderful design in a classic old building. The small pool was nice, and on the weekend we were served a poolside "high tea" with local pastries. The only downside for some visitors might be a nearby club that plays very loud music late at night, which I had seen mentioned in a few reviews, though it didn't bother us enough to matter. We'd definitely stay here again!

This hotel is located just slightly of the main road and as such, it has a quiet, chill vibe to it. I love waking up to the sound of chirping birds outside my window. It is also located in the town and within walking distance of almost all the popular destinations i have in my agenda for this trip. My room is huge! I love my four poster bed and the mosquito netting! The sheets and towels are clean although I thought my blanket was a bit thin at first but then I realised the AC wasn't that cold so all is good. The little garden outside was a welcome reprieve in the middle of bustling Georgetown. I also enjoyed the free popsicles by the pool. The team here is really friendly and courteous.

My friend and I spent 9 nights in adjoining ground-floor rooms at Muntri Grove. The hotel fulfilled all our expectations; it was such a wrench to leave. The location in the heart of old George Town was exactly what we were looking for. It was a lively fun place to be with easy access to the heritage highlights of the city; we did a lot of walking - there's just so much to see and do! (If you're looking for quiet solitude, perhaps look elsewhere). The rooms are very generously sized in heritage-style with a large, firm comfortable bed. Embellishments are understated, but more than adequate. We found the staff extremely friendly and helpful; unobtrusive but always responsive whenever needed. Full marks to every member of the team we came into contact with. There isn't any catering at the hotel, but this is far from a problem. George Town is food heaven with very reasonably priced food of the highest quality for every taste from breakfast and through the day within easy walking distance (think Love Lane, Chulia St, Leith St food market) and everywhere beyond.

The location was really good, very close to all the main attractions and food places. The reception staff were always helpful and polite. ||We didn't love the room layout with washrooms in the middle of the room, but it wasn't a big issue. The room was clean, as were the amenities.||Overall, we loved our stay here, but we do acknowledge that it's a little on the pricier side haha!

TLDR - Very nice hotel with great staff, tarnished by location next to very loud club / bar.||This is a nice property. The building is a renovation or recreation of an old Penang colonial style shopfront or warehouse, and looks great. The room I had was spacious, comfortable, dark woods, big four poster bed. Very nice design. There is a small, but very nice swimming pool on the top floor, which is a life saver in the hot weather.||The staff are excellent - particular shout outs to (going to misspell the names here, apologies) Sagee and Suffian, who were both super friendly and very helpful. Other staff were also friendly and helpful.||Location - good and bad. Good: Very close to the Blue Mansion, various temples, the E&O Hotel, and other historic and beautiful buildings. MAJOR DOWNSIDE: It is 50 to 60 metres away from the club/bar Higher Ground, which is open air and plays live music from 10pm to about 2am, every night. We were there on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday night and the music was very loud and could be heard very clearly from the hotel...so unfortunately it was very difficult to get sleep until about 2am.||So to sum up, a great hotel with great staff, but let down by its neighbours.

Muntri Grove is genuinely a work of art. Not just in the sense of its aesthetic curation but also in terms of all the thoughtful touches that make it one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. While there is a certain cliche to refer to a place as a home away from home, it certainly felt like it given the design elements make it feel like living in a Peranakan abode from yonder days. The staff were friendly and helpful at all times, the rooms are beautifully appointed in terms of all the necessities (but also in terms of the wonderful furnishings), and it is located right in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage city centre of beautiful George Town.

Beautiful hotel in excellent location. We were pleasantly surprised how huge our room was with a separate sitting area. The hotel owners have gone out of their way to decorate the hotel with vintage furniture, making our stay more enjoyable. Staff were very friendly and helpful too.

A beautiful historical building, with large rooms, in a perfect location in George Town. Staff were amazing, especially Joyce, who was welcoming and helpful with suggestions of where to eat etc. Yes, the bed was extremely hard, but that wasn’t an issue for us. Unfortunately the noise from the bars and nightclubs were, earplugs did not help, we checked out after 2 nights! Unfortunately not the hotels fault and they were extremely gracious when we checked out. Light sleepers please be aware.
