The place is very nostalgic. It reminds me of Singapura during the 60's 70's. The place has alot of historical items. Cosy and has a lot of friendly and helpful staff. Each room has a different feel. I like those opposite of the lobby. You have to walk across the hall with antique stuff. Never a boring place. One of great place to stay at in Pulau Pinang.

It is indeed a beautiful hotel and is part of a five that have worked on the restoration and preservation of heritage buildings in Penang. The staff is very wonderful and polite... every single one of them. The experience was great. Having said that, the rooms in which we stayed were rather small, so also the bathroom. Given the rate that was charged and now that we have travelled and looked at Melaka as well, I would say it is considerably on the high side. It ought to be 30% less.

Lovely hotel right in the middle of the old town. Room was excellent, spotlessly clean with everything you could need. The most enormous bed you have ever seen - and so comfortable. Lady on reception was extremely helpful. Breakfast rather let them down - quite limited but to be honest with such a lot of eating places around it hardly mattered.

Really interesting hotel in George Town. We stayed here for three nights, which felt like plenty of time to see the highlights of Penang. We wish we could have taken the hotel with us for the rest of our trip! Our family room was huge, comfy and pleasantly cool. Everything was clean and well maintained, and the staff were friendly and helpful. The highlight was the overall quirkiness - a renovated/maintained old building, with different rooms dotted around. The only thing to watch out for is the hotel being spread across several buildings. Not a problem for us, but groups with multiple rooms might find themselves in different buildings.

We stayed in the 3-bedroom apartment across the street from the main building and reception. It's a very comfortable stay and spacious with 3 double beds, one of which is on a mezzanine floor, a living and dining area. The apartment has been modernised without losing its beautiful Chinese and colonial charm and craftsmanship. The place is also very clean, and we have no complaints about all that is on offer in the rooms. ||Our stay includes breakfast. The breakfast is a la carte, and portions are rather small and measly. An offering of more toast and fresh fruits would be lovely and complete. This is not a real problem, as many nearby cafes and coffee shops offer delicious breakfasts. Other than that, I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Georgetown.

Delightful stay in this tastefully restored Villa. Our room had a wonderfully residential feel, with a period piece sitting room adjoining the sleeping area. Common spaces were wonderfully appointed with a remarkable collection of antiques. The staff were so thoughtful, knowledgeable, and happy to accommodate our every need.

Great hotel. Great service. Great location.|Carefully restored hotel in what used to be stables. Big rooms. Big beds. Amazing air con and shower that could be a fire hose belching abundant hot water. |My toilet had some problems. Instantly resolved. Likewise a sluggish shower outflow and a pesky mosquito. All efficiently handled by the excellent reception, housekeeping and maintenance staff|We were walking distance to an abundance of food stalls, market places, quality massage places(Island Spa), excellent dining

Peranakan charm and hospitality at its best here.||Nini at reception was simply fabulous;remembering my previous stays. Durga was friendly and really helped make our afternoon chitchatting over drinks very pleasant. All the staff offer exceptional service; really very well trained..||This time, stayed 2 ngts, no breakfast, in the main Mews building. Rooms were very different; making my friends choice of room difficult. They chose the one with a more modern all-in- one b&w bathroom while I took the room with a gorgeously tiled old-style bathroom spread over 3 areas.||Walked to breakfast at Chowrastra market. Walked to Hin Market. Walked to roti canai on Jalan Argyle. Perfect to amble about the heart of George Town. Walked to Jawi House.||Shall be back.

Yelp
On my 3-week journey from Bangkok to Singapore, the nicest place I stayed at was Muntri Mews in Penang. It's conveniently smack in the middle of George Town. Muntri Mews is the epitome of what heritage boutique accommodations should be: repurposed yet modern rooms that reflect the historical neighborhood. The tasteful design and ambience makes you step back in time even though you get wifi and modern plumbing in the rooms. Done with unique Peranakan style and pizazz. Luckily I got the shophouse across the street. With 3 bedrooms, 2 courtyards, and common living and dining areas, it was like my own palace. Staff are courteous and accommodating. The complimentary breakfast was great. We had many drinks and meals at the Mews Cafe. I'd return in a heartbeat and told the proprietor how much I liked the Mews.

Yelp
A beautiful, quiet, little sanctuary in the middle if the hustle & bustle. Friendly, honest (I over paid my check and the waiter chased me down the street to return my money) staff that go out of their way to make you feel at home. THE BEST BEEF RENDANG I have had while in Malaysia. And the tastiest, crunchiest banana fritters with ice cream that I just had to come back a second night to have them again. I'll be back Muntri Mews. I'll be back...

Yelp
Muntri Mews is located in Georgetown, which is a great location and walking distance to Red Garden Hawker centre, street art, love street and other attractions. It is only 30-40 mins from the airport that cost RM22 each way using Grab (best way to travel around in Penang). The accomodation was very spacious, clean and the decor was on point. Traditional Chinese decor with a modern twist. Breakfast was also included at Mews Cafe. Great selection of food and it was delicious! The only two drawbacks were there wasn't enough hot water for the shower and we were advised that reception is 24 hours. We had to check out early in the morning but there was no one around. Aside from that, the customer service and location were great and it was an enjoyable stay! I would stay here again and highly recommend it!

Yelp
I had a wonderful stay here for the same reasons mentioned by other Yelpers. What makes it wonderful is both the combination of service and the evocative rooms. You can see how most of the original structural frame of the building was left and just accommodated to suit hotel standard lodging needs. The decor is simple but with just the right touches of old school enamelware and Peranakan crockery that make it feel homey rather than hotel-corporate. It's also a heritage hotel not just in appearance but also in location. You start every morning walking out onto a street surrounded by buildings with actual character and nostalgia. From the street, you can't really tell it's a hotel, as you only see the cafe front. Reception is the room directly behind the cafe. Past that, there is a gate that separates the lodging quarters from the front. If you've booked for 4 people or more, you get placed in your own separate building across the street. There's really no room for parking unless you're in the larger family suite, which allows at most one vehicle. STAFF are accommodating, polite, and helpful. When you check in, they personally show you to your room and give you a tour of it before they leave. Throughout our stay, the young porter was the most helpful. But I have to say there was one receptionist who gave us some not so warm looks, and I don't know why as we'd never seen or interacted with her before so I don't know how we could've upset her other than by our looks. We spoke to her once, and there was visible disdain in her demeanor when I had seen her be just the complete opposite with two other guests. ROOMS: I stayed in a double and all the extra space was luxurious compared to what you get in Singapore for the same price. We were 3 and there were no issues with water pressure or hot water except for once when I felt the temperatures change briefly. Wifi signal may depend on your phone, my friend had constant strong signal pick-up while my older phone barely had any unless I sat outside the room. There are both aircon and fans in the room, which you can adjust yourself. Some issues for me was the bathroom drain, which you'd smell whenever it rained a lot (so this might only be more prominent during monsoon season). It's not really something you can do about because of the area and old drains, and as long as you keep the bathroom doors closed you don't smell it. Another issue was that our front door had a large gap the circumference of a cup in the corner even when fully closed, though obviously this depends on the room. It made me wonder about problems with critters, but surprisingly it wasn't much of a problem at all since I never saw roaches (maybe it's because housekeeping has a giant can they spray every day) or anything until the last day when we were alarmed by something squeaking loudly behind the fridge. The last thing, which some people might find unacceptable but I just found hilariously befuddling, was the condition of the sheets and towels sometimes. We once unfolded a towel to find a giant triangular rip in the middle almost as large as the towel itself. I thought it must've been a fluke until another night I pulled back the sheets and found that the lining sheet under the covers had huge rips and holes. There was no way that housekeeping didn't notice that while making the beds, so I can only assume that they think ragged towels and ripped sheets are still perfectly presentable. Some things to be mindful of if you have young children and mind certain night activities. This is a backpacker area, and at night you'll see a lot of bar activity along Love Ln and Lebuh Chulia. And along dark corridors you'll see working girls/ladyboys (though they usually stand in the shadows) looking for clients. So if you mind this sort of stuff, you might not want to walk around with the kiddies at night. Other than just noticing them, they don't do anything out in the open so it's not really much of a concern. It's only the bar workers that holler at you. Oh, also, they have live music at night at the cafe, which you can hear all the way to the back of the hotel. If you're an early nighter kind of person, you might want to take that into consideration. NOTE: They like to say it's 24-hour reception, but it's not really. The reception door is always unlocked, and during off hours there's usually someone sleeping in the back. So even if there isn't anyone in sight, just walk in and call out. Someone will come out to take your keys if you're ready to check out. Not quite sure how it works if you have an outstanding balance or are checking in, but there should always be someone in the back even if it looks empty from outside.

Yelp
Looking for a nice place for a Malay dinner I was lucky to fin this spot. Great food and great service. I had the sample platter for two and it was just excellent.
