A Taste of History in Every Glass
Stepping into Muratie Wine Estate feels like walking back in time. This storied estate, one of the oldest in South Africa, is rich in character and atmosphere. From its cobwebbed cellars and original architecture to the beautifully preserved historical artifacts, Muratie offers a truly immersive experience steeped in heritage.
The wines reflect that same sense of tradition and quality—robust, elegant, and expressive. Each tasting tells a story, paying homage to the figures who shaped the estate’s colorful past. The food pairs beautifully with the wines, making for a well-rounded and satisfying visit.
The only downside was the service, which felt somewhat distracted and inattentive at times. While the staff were friendly, they seemed stretched or perhaps not fully engaged, which slightly detracted from an otherwise superb experience.
That said, Muratie remains a must-visit for anyone interested in South African wine history, rustic charm, and beautifully crafted wines. With just a little more attention to service, it would be near perfection.
