"Inside or in the wrought iron–closed courtyard off Fishbone Alley, I dig into local favorites like burnt ends and blackened Gulf shrimp while live blues sets the mood." - Jessica Puckett

The environment is pleasant and smells good like nice oak smoke. However the ribs were nasty. They say they smoke them, and they may, but it's sure not 3.5hrs in smoke. I think they come out of a oven. They were extremely dry, covered in a ton of salt/seasoning. There's no smoke flavor, the fat wasn't rendered down, no smoke ring. Id be embarrassed if I was to serve this to friends and family, let alone to paying customers. Properly cooked ribs never turn out like these, granted I did put some bbq sauce on there as it was the only way I could eat what little I did. Wasted $33 on the ribs, the food my family got they didn't care much for neither. A expensive lesson, follow my advice stay clear of this place. Btw the water is bad tasting like river water, get something out of a bottle instead if you do decide to go.

Google
The pulled pork sandwich was very good, especially with the sweet BBQ. Definitely wouldn't mind coming back to eat here again. The waitress was also really great too and helpful. Always refilling our drinks as well.

Google
we came here on vacation and had an amazing time!! we started with the chicken nachos and then got the pork/chicken sandwich and the smash burger and they were AMAZING!! the real star of the show was our server Shelby who was so sweet, accommodating, and knew the menu well! she recommended I get my okra extra crispy and let me tell you SHE WAS RIGHT!! it was the best okra i’ve genuinely had in a long time! we will always remember this place and try to come back. THANK YOU SHELBY!!!

Google
The stars were aligned! Everything about this visit was spot on amazing! The wings as an appetizer on wing night was a phenomenal start to our meal. 2 meat combo (burnt ends and brisket, of course) with mac-n-vheese and fried okra for sides. Dipping the brisket and burnt ends in their sweet BBQ sauce made the flavor out of this world! My son had the catfish nuggets with fries and didn't even stop to take a breath! Hailey H, our server, they are sitting on a gold mine with her! Don't sleep on Hailey. She's the key to your perfect experience! She did EVERYTHING with enthusiasm, pride, professionalism, superb customer service skills, and genuine concern for our overall experience. 10 out of 10 stars for Hailey! We will be back and ask for her. If we have to wait for one of her tables to open, it's well worth it! Even my son, Junior, who is 9, commented on how good the food was and how he liked our server, Hailey!

Google
Murky Waters BBQ in Gulfport hits all the right notes - smoky, savoury, and seriously satisfying. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, with a spacious dining area that never feels crowded. The outdoor patio is a great touch, perfect for relaxing with friends or family while enjoying some Southern sunshine. The food? Absolutely on point. While the traditional BBQ would be a must-try, the smash burger was on point - juicy, flavourful, and cooked just right. Pair it with their creamy potato salad, and you’ve got comfort food done right. Shoutout to Cade for the exceptional service - friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. It’s clear that the folks here take pride in what they do. Highly recommend if you’re in the Gulfport area and craving authentic Southern BBQ with great vibes and even better food.

Google
Just moved into the area. Tired, hungry, living on little sleep and basically camping until our belongings arrive. This restaurant was just what we needed. Friendly and helpful servers. The burnt ends were the best BBQ I've ever eaten. Potato salad that will make you do a jig and the fried Okra was seasoned to perfection.

Google
First time eating here and it was delicious, The brisket was moist and tender and the baked beans were great. Pulled chicken was delicious , will definitely make this my place for BBQ when visiting the area, also staff were friendly and helpful

Google
Awesome atmosphere, great spot…kinda tricky for parking. Was surprised we got there at 1100 when they opened and all the food: brisket, ribs, and sausage were very dry…maybe from yesterday? Either way, probably stop in..gets packed quick.

Yelp
The food was great here they get there was good service. They made a mistake, but they fixed it. There's good service and good decorations, and lots of entertainment.

Yelp
Monday evening dinner, this place was not busy so service was prompt. I've just spent a month and half away from the south and everything here was so salty, from the chicken bites and fries to the gumbo. Floors are sticky and little flies present. The brisket was decent but the bbq sauces left more to be desired. The mac and cheese was good but the side of toast had a funny flavor. One time stop for me and my family.

Yelp
My wife and I wanted to try something different, other than seafood, during our visit here to Gulfport. Barbecue seemed to be the wise thing to do and we certainly were not disappointed here at Murky Waters! My wife and I ordered cocktails to start, a Manhattan for me and blueberry lemonade martini for my wife. The drinks were perfect! Very nice to see someone knows how to make a Manhattan! For starters, we ordered their Parmesan garlic fries. Very delicious and well done! For our dinners, my wife ordered their sliced brisket with a side of macaroni and cheese and a side salad while I ordered their pick two combo of smoked chicken, burnt ends, and greens & beans. The barbecue here is exceptionally delicious! We just had some terrific West Texas barbecue before venturing to Gulfport. Seems to be more of an evening spot, but our late lunch was absolutely on spot! Our server did a terrific job with a perfect balance of personality and humor! Certainly coming back again for another visit before we leave Gulfport.

Yelp
The BBQ is wonderful and live blues every Friday at 6:30pm brings us back again and again.

Yelp
Nice restaurant to stop in. Looks like they do live music sometimes. The staff was kind. I enjoyed the level of smoke flavor in my meats. They have 3 kinds of bbq sauces: vinegar, sweet and spicy. I mixed the sweet and spicy for my meal. If near the port I recommend giving them a try.

Patricia W.

Yelp
Service was very nice and food was good. Enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant. Went early so it was pretty quiet. Very enjoyable.

Yelp
this was our very first time here and i wasn't too sure about the food since i'm big on bbq! however, i got the smoked sausage sandwich and it is REALLY DIM inside ... as i went to ALMOST take my first bite i saw green mold spores on my sandwich. i literally had to turn on my flash to inspect the sandwich and there was multiple spots with green mold!! they didn't take this off of our ticket.. instead the manager stated "we check every dish we bring out and you must have gotten a bad loaf" ! then proceeded to offer us a cheesecake in which i declined. we will not be back! the only place that has "good lighting" is the kitchen but that clearly wasn't the case.

Yelp
It's all in a name! You are very Murky and you gave me the Blues. We had a good waitress, but she begged me not to mention her name Zip! Thanks for your service girl. We are a party of 5 visiting Gulfport, want something other than seafood. Okay, barbecue, we'll take it. Upon entry you are dark but crisp in a storefront older building with lots of industrial charm, you looks good. But we here for this food. Bae got the rib plate, with baked beans and okra. Dee got a combo plate with wingettes and ribs. Joube got a combo plate with ribs and sausage and I got a half chicken plate. By far, my plate was discussing. I have never seen a barbecue place mess up the chicken. My chicken was charred, the waitress admitted that she should have taken it back and asked the to redo it, but she didn't. Girl, don't you know I never should have saw this meat like this? Terrible. It's good that everything else was taster. The winner hands down is your sausage, that stuff there good. Even with good sausage I'm not satisfied. You already know, when she not satisfied, she not coming back!

Yelp
Went here back in July and it was very lacking unfortunately. It was a Wednesday and they do extremely discounted wings, but the wings I received appeared to come from anorexic chicken. So disappointing. I ordered their brisket waffle fries and the brisket tasted like hose water to me. The whole meal was just not what I was expecting at all. I heard about them from an acquaintance who claimed they were worth the hype, I disagree. I will say their dessert drinks are delicious. I believe i got two of their mississippi muds. The seating and vibe of the place isn't what I was expecting but they worked with what they had. My server at the time was a doll, I appreciated her very much and she was very helpful.

James D.

Yelp
I've been there before and it was decent. But this trip was the worst I've ever had anywhere and I've eaten at The Shed. The brisket was so dry it was crumbling. The pork was mediocre at best. The sauce bottles at the table were gross. There was a buildup of sticky dry sauce that looks like it had been there for weeks. The waitress was nice enough but she wasn't surprised when we left a lot of food and didn't want a box. It would have been cheaper and better to go to Buc-cees. The mouse running up and down the bar was a nice touch though. I assume he didn't want the brisket either.

Yelp
We loved this place! This was our first time in Mississippi so we didn't know quite what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised. The inside had a cool, relaxing vibe. The blues playing in the background was a great touch. Our server was very good. It was Wing Night (.65¢ per wing but you have to order at least 5 in an order). Or server was knowledgeable about the different sauces and the level of spiciness. She was very helpful. We ordered 30 wings. These wings were smoked to perfection and sauced like a kiss from an angel. We loved it! We also ordered the smoked tuna dip appetizer which was delicious. I also ordered the sliced brisket with the collared greens and fried okra. It was sooooo good I wished I had another stomach just so I could keep eating. The portions were humongous! If I am ever in Gulfport again, this will be my first stop.

Yelp
We used to really enjoy Murky Waters, but the prices and quality have really gone down hill over the last three years or so. We last visited on Thursday, September 4th, 2025. We didn't actually eat here. First off it was about 6:45pm and there was only one table in here. Not a very good sign. Secondly their prices have gotten out of control! During Covid they raised their six piece chicken wing order to $10.95 which was/is ridiculous for the small wings you get. So I started ordering the half chicken dinner. It came with half a chicken, two sides and a piece of garlic bread for $12.95. It was well worth the price. I'm not a big eater and could get two meals easily out of it. So of course I noticed immediately that the new price for the half a chicken dinner with the sides is now $17.95! Or you could order half a chicken without the sides for $14.95! This is an absolute joke! I know there is inflation but they do purchase wholesale. I just bought two and a half pounds of good chicken wings at WalMart yesterday for less than seven dollars. And they were big and meaty! Inflation is one thing but we aren't going to just throw money away. Thirdly, it was so hot in there I was sweating bullets and I'm always cold. I was wearing shorts and a light shirt. We told our server we were leaving because it was as so hot in there. I felt sorry for her because she was sweating up a storm as well. Our server was prompt and polite. To say the least we will not be returning. We did go down the street and have dinner at another establishment with fair prices, good food, great service and cold AC! We are not being cheap. On any given week we go out to lunch/dinner two or three times a week. I hope management really takes a look at this review and makes some changes. We are not the only ones of friends and family that are no longer visiting this restaurant due to prices and food quality and value.

Yelp
Located on the colorful Fishbone Alley in Gulfport,MS. They serve great smoked meats with some seafood selections. The bar is fully stocked that offers seasonal speciality drinks. They do have a schedule for live music which is usually on Friday nights. On street parking is usually available within a short waking distance to the restaurant. Try the burnt ends of you ever get the chance, but they are usually sold out. We highly recommend this locally owned establishment!! Enjoy.

Yelp
1st time eating there. The food was amazing. The service was outstanding. I wish I had gotten his name to do a shout out to him. 1/20/25 around 6-7 pm you rock dude. The atmosphere was great, love the blues. Will definitely be back.

Jessica T.

Yelp
Food was okay. Price for the quantity and quality was a little high. Just seemed like your standard barbecue.
google avatar

veronica p.

Yelp
Their bbq wings are a must, paired with a domestic beer that's not going to kill the budget. the jazz of it all makes it feel like you're in another world of blues essence. a must visit if you're ever in gulfport.

Yelp
Fabulous ! Amazing brisket. Great bartenders, love this place! Will go back again and again

Yelp
I had a last minute catering order for 10 folks and Steven bent over backwards to make it happen for us. He gave me his personal number and communicated with me to ensure everything was done correctly. The BBQ was great and the company was very pleased to have everything! I will 100% come back here.

Charlie M.

Yelp
Went for lunch, had ribs and brisket. Very delicious enjoyed the sweet sauce. Nice to find good BBQ in Gulfport. Service was outstanding. Always was checking on our needs. I will be back to try the rest of the menu.

Yelp
Stopped by this place while leaving the aquarium down the street with the family and grab a bite to eat. It wasn't to busy as this was the day after Thanksgiving so we were seated promptly and after we ordered our meal which came out pretty quick. It's a bluesy joint that has has live music with a small stage up front. I ordered the bbq chicken nachos, my daughter ordered sausage and French fries and the rest of the table had an order of 24 wings with 4 different sauces. My nachos was filling and delicious and I was told that wings was really good. Again it wasn't to busy for a Friday afternoon after Thanksgiving but the food was pretty darn good.
google avatar

Beverly W.

Yelp
The pulled pork was nice. Bbq sauce was the best because I like sweet. Macaroni seemed like the bag macaroni that Walmart uses. Baked beans were nice. Took forever to get the food but they did have a crowd.
google avatar

Tony L.

Yelp
Really good barbecue place with salad sides brisket was tender and very moist. Had a very good smoke ring on it and good taste. Staff was friendly and attentive, and the overall barbecue experience was very good.
google avatar

Tanya O.

Yelp
The burnt ends!!! Absolutely delicious!! My family went on a Saturday afternoon and got a table right away. The service was great! The food was delicious. The portions were large enough that if you're looking for a light lunch, you can share a platter. My son loved the burger & fries. Again, it's worth saying that I highly recommend the burnt ends.

Zack G.

Yelp
Food was great. Wings are always good and the staff is very friendly. Haley the server was awesome!
google avatar

Samantha N.

Yelp
I think the food is pretty tasty especially the burnt ends sandwich with the loaded waffle fries. I wasn't able to dine in so I got some takeout. My order was taken correctly and food came out fast. I was able to check out the vibe inside and it looked pretty lively in there with the patrons. This place would be a great spot to get food and drinks!

Debbie K.

Yelp
Visiting the area for the first time and looked up a restaurant locals recommend. "Murky Waters" came up and I said it sounded good. Came in, sat down and perused the menu. The hostess and my waitress were both very sweet and made me feel welcome. I was tired and just wanted to eat and relax and they accommodated me 100%.I ordered the pulled pork quesadilla, absolutely delicious. The pork was tender and tasty. While I could have put the sauce they provided on the table, I ate it as is, and it was delicious. I took an order of wings with me for later, finished off my diet coke, and left stuffed. (Broke my diet) Highly recommend!
google avatar

Jim S.

Yelp
I went to. Murky Waters in Gulfport. It was my 2nd time there. I had burnt ends. They were much better than the burnt ends I had at Murky Waters in Bay St Louis. It's a larger restaurant and the service was very good. My friend had pulled pork and she said it was very good also. I'll be coming back.
google avatar

Laura D.

Yelp
This place is awesome! Food is seriously good . We had the pulled pork , Mac n cheese and fries okra . So yummy . Southern style . Good portions. Served with good ole Southern Hospitality. It was pretty obvious that People/customers are having fun here & enjoying themselves Not too far from Island View Casino. Take an Uber if you don't have a car. Pulled pork was delicious . Definitely recommend !

Kay D.

Yelp
Sooo much food and tasted great. I had the brisket salad and a side of okra both of which were excellent. Smooth vibes and great staff. Don't miss it if you're in the area.

Carl P.

Yelp
Really good BBQ, Super friendly staff and Great Prices. Definitely recommend and we will be back soon!

William B.

Yelp
World class BBQ, good service, Excellent atmosphere!! Don't miss out on some of the best food.

Margaret R.

Yelp
We had one waitress that was fantastic and we appreciated her, but unfortunately we also had one that was rude, angry and had a piss poor attitude. The food was just ok. The brisket was dry so was the pulled pork and the bottled beer was not cold.
google avatar

Mike K.

Yelp
very nice. good wait staff. I got the pulled pork platter with 2 sides. A lot of food. I should have ordered the pulled pork sandwich with 1 side. I was here last February too, and will go again.

Natalie B.

Yelp
I love their wings, their bbq, and their beans. It's a pretty cool place. A Gulfport gem.
google avatar

Yelp
I had eaten so much fish that my gills were beginning to show as well as my fins! I needed something OTHER than great seafood! We asked a few locals and all said Murky Waters. So we went. EASY to find, plenty of nearby parking if you don't get one of the spaces in front. Cool Blues Dive look and feel as you walk in in the old buildings of this old Gulf Coast beachside city. Lots of woodwork gave it a dark and comfortable feel. Although we weren't there with any artists playing, I can only imagine how great that MUST be! We were picking up and taking back to eat, so we got a chance to order drinks first. GREAT idea! Heh, dinner was delayed while we had a couple of rounds! Sitting at the colorful bar, watching colorful people come in and listening to their colorful stories had us ready to be colorful with a few more rounds. People, this place is just fun to sit back, drink, and soak it all in. That was worth bonus stars! When we ordered another round and THEN placed the order to go, it was a 1/3 rack of ribs, a couple of pounds of Clapton sliced brisket, beans, okra, and tater salad. Seriously, by end of the 2nd drink, I was thinking another round, but they had the food ready so we sadly left. I was ready to sit there all night, until I got a magical whiff coming out of the sacks. The ribs were really good, tender, and off the scale delicious! The brisket was seriously insanely good. Tender, juicy, flavorful and I knew I should have ordered an extra pound just for me! The okra was the best I have had in years! The beans were really good! The potato salad was creamy, soothing, but with enough kick to let your tongue tingle with delight! NEXT TRIP, THIS IS A MUST VISIT! Bookmark this place and you'll be glad you did!

Yelp
We almost missed this place due to lighting. Dinner on a Sunday night and when you drive down the road it's on, it looks like a deserted alley. Not too many patrons so all good on the safety front. But the tables are spaced enough if there were more people here. Not sure of the waiter's name but dude did not have the personality of a waiter. No energy, soft spoken and barely said anything to us during our visit. Maybe he had a rough day but he seemed like he was over it. The food was ok, but I wouldn't go back. I ordered the loaded waffle fries with shredded chicken. Comes with nacho cheese, which is a huge misstep. Ever ordered loaded fries and wish it came with more cheese? Opposite effect here, wish there was far less cheese. It's topped with bacon and chives. The bacon had a very "porky" taste and didn't taste fresh. I added a ton of pepper and requested pickles and jalapeños peppers to try to jazz it up. I will say that the shredded chicken had a good taste to it but it was overpowered by the nacho cheese. The beau ordered ordered the dish with the three meats. He picked sausage, wings and pulled pork. He wasn't impressed, but said the wings were the best out of what he ordered. Noted that the sausage wasn't good at all.

Koko T.

Yelp
My husband and I came to fine in yesterday for the first time and we had the bbq smoked wings and the buffalo smoked wings with Mac and cheese and collard greens we thought the sides were ok but not a fan but we thought the wings were amazing we will definitely be back
google avatar

Aj W.

Yelp
Got the burnt ends and fried okra for lunch. Would definitely recommend! Service was good and it's in a cool spot too. Delicious
google avatar

Eric J.

Yelp
We found this place after our favorite BBQ House changes hands. The atmosphere was awesome and was the smell of the BBQ. The food was off the cuff. The only thing I can say bad about it is the Coleslaw. It is far from being the best. On the tart side. But the rest of the food is worthy of a revisit without a doubt.
google avatar

Erica R.

Yelp
This was a really enjoyable dining experience. My parents were in town and my dad is super picky so I brought him here. We had a group of five and were able to easily make a reservation. It is very dark and rather loud at this restaurant so my dad was using his flashlight to read the menu and everyone had to keep repeating themselves. There was no live music going on when we were there but I would love to come back at a time when they have a band playing. The food was really good. I got a burger and it was excellent. My family all liked their food as well. The server was really great and he made sure we had everything we needed and he was on fire with the refills. Overall, a great place for a fun night!

L V.

Yelp
Ribs were delicious. Priced very reasonable friendly staff. All three locations same food and service.
google avatar

Amy T.

Yelp
Tasty bbq, fast service, and cool local vibe. I had the brisket sandwich with a side of green salad and fried okra. Definitely recommend. Plus they have 0.65 wing day on Wednesday.

Marlow B.

Yelp
This place was beyond mediocre. I have never took my first bite and thought, "God, this is terrible." The service people were lovely. The mac and cheese is definitely Kraft, and the beans are straight out of a can. If you love lukewarm, bland food, you've found your place.
google avatar

Mark F.

Yelp
Guess I'm not a big fan of BBQ sauce and nachos. I also didn't care for the cheeze-whiz style cheese. I'll take the hitt on this though because it's might just be me.

Rick L.

Yelp
Awesome food, service and atmosphere. Will definitely return. On my list of places now!!! Amber's service was fantastic too!!
google avatar

Timothy E.

Yelp
We had lunch there Friday in the early afternoon. There were three of us and we were all very satisfied with our meals. As you can see by the pictures, we did not leave hungry. I think it is a great place to eat and will be returning for more meals in the future.
google avatar

Paul H.

Yelp
Asked some area locals where to find good bbq and was told about Murky Waters. They did NOT mis-advise me about this place. Food and service were great. Portions were well sized and the bar selections generous. Great music playing in the background was on point to the theme of the establishment. Will definitely eat here again when I'm back in Gulfport.
google avatar

Carolyn S.

Yelp
Love this place! The best barbecue in the Gulf Coast region. We stop here every time we visit the Island View Casino.
google avatar

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Now this place is exactly what the reviews stated, DELICIOUS . Whenever I stop by a bbq joint, I've learned to look for the smoked wangz. I found some delicious smoked wangz. I gave the sweet honey spicy wangz a try & I wanted more. I let some of my coworkers have a wing or two & they wanted to devour my entire plate of wings. Sooo that speaks for itself‼ Get the wings & wash it down with the local beer Free Mason. The free mason beer resembles a yuengling, it's a light beer. My coworkers also enjoyed the burnt ends & the YUGE nacho appetizer.
