The food is good but not the greatest I’ve ever had. We got the steak and for the price it’s okay. The service was a bit slow. Other tables seated after us got asked what they wanted to drink before we did. We kind of had to wave down our server to let her know we wanted to order. Even the people beside us commented on it to us. But it could have been an off day. I may go back but not likely.

Murphy's is great. It has been feeding folks in this city for generations and everyone in town has Murphy's on their list of restaurant options when dining out. It's a place where you enter and see friends and neighbors with gravy dripping off of their beards. But I must be honest. Today, my burger was a hockey puck; so beyond well-done, I had 2 bites and just ate the fries. My fries were soggy, half of them should have remained in the fryer for another minute and a half. I didn't say anything because: 1- I'm not THAT guy. And maybe it was just an "off day" in the kitchen. 2- My server was not concerned with anything but complaining to the other servers about life. The past few times I've eaten at Murphy's, the service has been abysmal. They are nonchalantly meandering around, occasionally filling up drinks, rarely smiling, and I see no one there that I would call a "Server." At Murphy's, they are definitely "waitresses." It's too bad, really. I'd love to work there and have the opportunity to really serve those in my community with a genuine smile, care, and with a passion for making people feel seen, appreciated, and loved. The atmosphere would be great if the employees would work with some pride and with some passion for their job.

Google
Should have taken pictures on this visit. Had a breakfast that I couldn't finish. The staff is like talking to family. The food is excellent, but the service is beyond what you would expect from a small dinner. They have been there decades, and I just was treated to one of my favorite places from my son in law. Will make this a go to place when in town.

Google
The open burger with gravy was absolutely delicious! The side salad with their homemade dressing is so good! Our waitress was very nice and attentive.

Google
Not a chain! Great burgers. Even better fries and pies. Seat yourself atmosphere. They remodeled a year or so ago so the booths are clean and clean comfortable.

People were kind and efficient and the hot hamburger was hot and delicious!

Going to Murphy's is like going back in time. Like when all the family showed up after church and Grandma said I'm not cooking let's go out and get a bite. I had Chicken Fried Steak, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans and Blackberry Cobbler. That's a win my friends!

Yelp
Worth a little drive from town! A Bartlesville staple. We enjoyed the hot hamburger and a ribeye. Fries were tasty and fresh. Husband is a big fan of the brown gravy.

Mike C.

Yelp
My favorite place. Been eating here my entire life. Service is impeccable without a shadow of doubt the coolest diner in town. Its aged look is the best part about it. Beautiful place.

Yelp
Look, if you don't have some redneck in you, just move along and go to a fancier establishment. But if you like good ol Oklahoma cooking with a healthy portion of country - this is the place. Your server will most likely call you "Hon" or "Babe" and will be super friendly. For first timers: 1) You wait in line on the honor system. No names on a list. Walk in, look around, see who you are behind. Occasionally look into the dining area and see when a table is ready and it is your turn, then go. 2) Crackers and the homemade dressing is a must while you wait for your food. 3) Crushed Ice. If that doesn't get you excited - go back to your luxury car and find another place. 4) Salad with the same dressing. 5) HOT HAMBURGER. Gravy on it all. See picture. 6) Pie or Cobbler to top it off.

Yelp
Solid picks at affordable prices. Other reviewers have covered the classics but can't go round with burgers, fries and gravy. And garlic dressing. Take out is well packed and time estimates are spot on. Dine-in service is fast tho place is bustling so go for the food not a quiet meal. Oh and they are open late and most days.

Yelp
Not my favorite! To salty, fatty, greasy! If you want to have a heart attack then this is the place to eat!

Yelp
Murphy's Steakhouse has not changed in over 50 YEARS!! I personally know this! Their portions are huge! So come very hungry or order a JR. hot hamburger & fries, or share it! Even the JR is huge! It is soooo good. This place has simple Americana food. Hamburgers, steaks, BLT's. People don't come here for the decor. Their service and staff are top notch and know how to make you feel welcomed and take care of you! Murphy's is an ICONIC restaurant of Oklahoma!
google avatar

Yelp
The hot hamburgers, the chicken fried steak, the service all top notch, a must eat if in Bartlesville, been a patron for over 40 years

Yelp
You guys definitely out did yourselves again for dinner. A month ago when we came we both had the juiciest burgers ever along with apple cobbler which was amazing. Tonight my husband had a burger which he loves and said was very juice. I had the gumbo shrimp and fries which was amazing. So much good I have lunch tomorrow. We also splurged on dessert so we can sample them all. We got chocolate pie, coconut cream pie, lemon meringue pie & pecan pie. Every bite was absolutely amazing. My all time favorite is pecan and lemon. You won't go wrong ordering anything from here and you won't be disappointed in the desserts either. 10 plus stars!

Yelp
Today we had lunch at Murphy's Original Steak House. It's a local favorite/hotspot but they're just as welcoming to new comers/visitors too. We started with mozzarella sticks, the cheese inside was very rich and creamy. I had the loaded baked potato with grilled chicken, the potato was very fluffy and baked perfectly. The chicken comes separate from the potato so you can add as much as you want. My husband had the BLT with half order of fries, I love the fries!!! He was gracious enough to share- lucky me! While we were there Santa dropped in, I didn't get a picture of him but it was really cute! If you want to eat where the locals eat, eat here.

Yelp
Stopped by during a visit to the 'Ville, so we thought we'd try this again...it's been close to 20 years...Hot hamburger still incredible with real fries, grilled onion, and fantastic gravy that's guaranteed to take a year off your life...Momma had the chicken fry, steak that is, and took half home...because she was saving room for desert! Didn't Pink Floyd say you don't get any pudding until you eat your meat? Apparently Momma has Pink Floyd trump power... Good food, good price. If you are expecting fancy interior....this isn't for you, but then again, I have never eaten a restaurant table or chair. This is an eating place...dated, a bit, well worn, yup, are those booths really Orange? Yes they are. Who cares...the food is cooked fresh, and it's served hot and delicious. This is a Bartlesville icon...for over 70 years. Comfort food covered with gravy...I'm in.

R Raymond L.

Yelp
It's been a great restaurant for over 50 years for us! Great burger! Love their fries! Love the gravy! Love the salads!

Cassie J.

Yelp
Took a trip to Bartlesville from Tulsa area, had heard great things about Murphy's and had to try. We arrived around noon on a Saturday it was busy but there were just 2 of us so we sat at their counter, got the hot hamburger with gravy all over junior size and it was still huge! It was delicious!! Also had the side salad with their garlic dressing and it was okay. Great service and friendly staff, definitely worth a stop!

Yelp
We came here for dinner didn't really eat much saw the big country fried steak for dinner but I said I had to come back for breakfast and yes it was really good one of the best chicken fried steak around here def coming back

Carl S.

Yelp
Best food around Oklahoma good employees highly recommend best place in bartlesville great for family functions

Yelp
The food and service at Murphy's is great! I prefer carry out because the actual restaurant seems a little dirty, but I don't think it actually is - it's just outdated. Again, the food is fantastic!
google avatar

Sheryl H.

Yelp
I really don't know why this place doesn't have five stars! It's a small place with nothing but booths but the waitresses are amazing the food is to die for prices are great just can't say enough good!!! The Hot Hamburger combined my husband two favorites poutine (fries smothered in brown gravy) over a hamburger patty with sweet onions on Texas toast, was he said best he's ever had! My Chicken Fried Steak with salad and Baked Potato, oh my the huge baked potato and The Best White Gravy I've ever had in a restaurant delicious! So much food for the money! Even the sweet tea was good! So wish we weren't just passing thru!

Ruby M.

Yelp
Friendly service. Nostalgic place. Delicious, perfect chicken fried steak. The old Hereford sign is raggedy, but the meal was fab.
google avatar

Jessie J.

Yelp
This Florida girl is still dreaming of the French fries and gravy over beef! My Husband swears his filet was the best steak he has ever had. Debating on buying a private plane just to travel to this restaurant once a week.

Mikel H.

Yelp
Good, old fashioned diner, putting out good steak and burgers. They were slammed and short- staffed, just like everywhere else, but we were still served in a timely manner. Ambience is definitely diner-like, but I wouldn't change a thing. If you want hot fries and a good steak, this is your spot in Bartlesville!
google avatar

Hannah M.

Yelp
I'm from the Pawhuska/Bartlesville and growing up this place was such a staple for the locals, still is! Friendly service the moment you walk in the door, old fashioned everything from the booths to the décor. Their salads are amazing ample amounts of creamy ranch dressing drizzled all over and the lettuce is fresh! Definitely fresh and crunchy! Their most famously known for their chicken fried steak and their hot hamburger with grilled onions. Both of these items are huge! Their gravy is delicious you won't be able to stop get it on anything and everything I hate gravy but eat it here, you can also request it on the side if you want to dip it into anything... The servings here are huge so yes you can share! This staple is just what makes Bartlesville! They don't take reservations so get there early if you want a table! Fast and prompt service always! My favorite here is their desserts! Delicious huge meringue pies. You're never too full for dessert here and if you are, order it to go! I promise that you won't regret ordering it. It's amazing fresh and so rich. If you're in the area and craving a juicy fresh hot hamburger or just want dessert come on in,this place will succeed your expectations!

Yelp
They have the best Junior Hot Cheese burgers in Oklahoma!!!! I can never eat the whole meal i have to share it!!
google avatar

Tracy S.

Yelp
This is practically a landmark. There is no other diner like this one. The things to eat here are: Salad with house dressing (creamy garlic dressing) Hot hamburger with grilled onions--I get the junior hot hamburger because even the little one is HUGE. I get grilled onions added but I skip the cheese because I can't taste it covered in gravy. And order it gravy over all. Then I create a wreath of ketchup around the outer edge. Ribeye steak. My hubby always loves it. Hamburger steak is always what my mom loves to eat. Coconut meringue pie. If you're too full, get it to go. You will not regret it. So good.

Yelp
Reviewed December 21, 2018 Health Score 93 out of 100 Since the 1940s "The Hot Hamburger" A description of Murphy's from another post; "A historical working man's eatery!" is the perfect description. It is reminiscent of a 50's diner / truck stop cafe. It offers good steaks, generous portions, and everything can be ordered smothered in brown gravy, which is what keeps this place flooded with patrons. The friendly and very good service also stands out. We had the sirloin dinners. A good 8oz sirloin steak cooked perfectly. The meal starts with a basic lettuce salad. They have a wide variety of salad dressings available, including a house dressing which is also a signature offering of the diner. The side choices we picked were a baked potato and fries with gravy on the side. The baked potato was perfect, but watch out it comes with a half a stick of butter. For the fires, I decide to get the gravy on the side. I recommend you do the same! The gravy looks like and has the consistency of chocolate pudding. It has a mild beef flavor and makes a tasty dipping sauce for the fries. I am not sure I would want everything smothered in it though. I recommend Murphy's. You will have a good meal with fast friendly service. Note: This review and photos were originally posted on Tripadvisor by Spike S.

Yelp
Thought we'd visit this "famous" Bartlesville steak house. Diner style decor was expected. Service was good. Food was not good. Since it is billed as a steak house, I ordered a steak, rib eye...what I got was a pan fried 1/3 fat non seasoned piece of meat. Tasteless. I'm aware the hot hamburger is the special but I was in the mood for a steak. I got outta the mood. We won't be back famous or not.

Yelp
Another good place to eat in Bartlesville.the ribs an bar be cue were all goodthe coleslaw is vinegar based an tasty. Excellent potato salad. Good service an prices.

Donna L.

Yelp
We read about 35 reviews. We went. It was good. Service was fine. Tea was awesome. We must admit it's more like a diner than a steakhouse. We would come back, but it's definitely not our favorite place. Give it a try.

Saundra S.

Yelp
The staff and food were absolutely wonderful!! We will definitely be returning again in the very near future.

Yelp
FBA (Fat Boy Approved) 5 Belly rubs Dang good, Belly rubbing brown gravy! I have been coming here since my childhood! The food is delicious and there homemade dressing is the best (if you like garlic). They are known for their hot hamburger, with Gravy over it all. I get it with cheese and onions cooked into the meat. As well i always order the Jr. Size (yes i am 400 lbs, and i order the jr) and a salad and it is all i can do eat it all! I have had other items there and have never been disappointed in anything i have tried, but when i go to Murphy's it's for the Hot Hamburger!

Andy S.

Yelp
When you look up the definition of "down home" it should be Murphy's steakhouse... the wait staff knew what everyone wanted the second they walked in the door. From asking how someone's kids doing in school to asking about their parents they never missed a beat!! I would recommend this place to anyone who is hungry, there is more food than a person can eat!!
google avatar

Mark H.

Yelp
This place was awesome. Youight not think not by looking at it but the people that work there are awesome. Everyone is very friendly and like to talk to each and one of the customers. The food has huge portions and little.price. Will be returning again and again.

Yelp
If you come here and don't get a hot hamburger "gravy over all", are you really experiencing Murphy's? I've been coming to this restaurant since I was a child and it's been in of my favorites in town. definitely recommend travelers to try out the Hot Hamburger with brown or white gravy. You won't be disappointed!
google avatar

Yelp
The reviews were good so I thought I would venture to this hole in a wall. I just don't get it, unless I didn't order the right thing. Ordered a cheeseburger and fries with a side of brown gravy. It was so bad, I didn't eat either, after the first bite. 2 stars for the nice server.

Yelp
It was like I was transported to the 70s, everything about Murphy's is classic steakhouse. If I'd lived in Bartlesville I differently be a regular. My salad was perfect and they bring you the buttery crackers with your salad. The new steakhouses are clueless about bringing you crackers. And my ribeye was flawless, tender, juicy, and oh delicious. I couldn't cook it better myself. I was happy with my food and my waitress. She was busy and she was on top of everything.

MJ A.

Yelp
We ordered the chopped barbecue sandwich with fries. The fries were simply awesome. The lady that waited on us was very nice and attentive to our needs. The meat on the sandwich was rather tasteless and the barbecue sauce that came with the sandwich didn't help it any. I ate the fries and brought the rest of the sandwich home and after applying quality barbecue sauce it changed the taste to 100 percent better. We had to keep swiping at flies to leave our food as they were numerous. I noticed a young female worker go into the bathroom and after she had been in the bathroom for awhile she came out and summoned another young teen staff member to go into the bathroom with her. They quickly emerged the bathroom laughing. While I was eating the staff began preparing to close for the night and started sweeping the floors with a broom. A broom should never be used in a restaurant while customers have food on tables. A vacuum and mop would be appropriate. Later when I went into the ladies restroom I discovered a reason for the laughing behavior of two young female staff members as there was a huge turd in the commode. I also noticed flies in the toilet. We do not plan to return to this restaurant in the future as there are many better choices in Bartlesville when eating out.

Yelp
Stopped in here while on a weekend getaway to Osage Hills state park with the hubs. The place was hopping and seems to be a favorite of the locals. The restaurant isn't fancy but the staff was friendly and the food was good! We had a wonderful waitress by the name of Britania!!! She was a great waitress, friendly, had lots of tips for us on things to see and do while in the area! My husband and I both enjoyed what they call the hot hamburger. I had a small while he had a large. It's white toast on bottom then your hamburger patty and you can add cheese, grilled onions, mushrooms or jalapeños, then it has a huge helping of delicious french fries piled on top with brown gravy!!! Britania said if you eat at Murphy's and don't have their salad then you haven't lived so she hooked us up! She was right! Just a simple salad but with the shredded lettuce, nice big chunks of tomatoes and the very finely shredded cheese with the homemade ranch it was delicious!!!! Very inexpensive, good selection of entrees and you seat yourself by the honor system! They have the good crushed ice or cubed! Love that! Check this place out if you can!

Yelp
Good ole historic steakhouse in downtown Bartlesville. Love the vintage bull sign out front. I had the hot hamburger - well, because They are known for it and I love poutine. Glad I did, just what I expected the burger topped with fries and cheese and brown gravy. Could not even come close to eating half of the junior version. My husband had the steak and baked potato and we shared the homemade jalapeño poppers - they were very good. Our waitress and the staff were great - very friendly and took care of us. I even picked up a souvenir - their T-shirt 'Gravy Over All''. If you make it to Bartlesville, Definitely stop in. Very casual and good home cooked food.

Yelp
Stopped here going by reviews. I don't know how it's 5 stars with over 1500 reviews. WAY overrated. Very small menu. Not really a steakhouse. More of a burger joint and not very clean or hygienic. Waitress was nice and service wasn't bad but definitely will not be back.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a blast from the past, the food is amazing. The decor is old and needs TLC, and pray you don't have to use the restroom bc it's DISGUSTING. I am giving it a 5 and judging only the food and wait staff. The breakfast is simple and delicious! I always get double bacon. The hot hamburger is the best I have ever had. You must do gravy overall! We enjoy The garlic Parmesan dressing. Kind of a redneck appetizer if you eat it on the crackers at the table while you wait for your food. The stakes are very good as well you can't go wrong with pretty much anything at Murphy's except for maybe the salads there pretty bland but the dressings are good so just drench it!

Kathy E.

Yelp
This place is great. Most of the staff is super hospitable and service is almost always way better than average. The trick here is not everyone gets it! This place and the food is a blast from the past. It is legendary. Ok If you don't love good ol' country cooking and things like hamburger steak & fries smothered in gravy, there are other options and they are good too. I was born in Bartlesville and moved back here last year. So glad to find the hospitality and good food as I recalled it.

Yelp
At the recommendation of a local while on vacation we checked out this local gem. The recommendation was as on point as the hometown loved and raved about eatery. Dare I say this was better than our fancy night out in OKC a few nights prior.

Yelp
First visit and we loved it! It's not a fine dining experience, but the food is great and service is fast. We had a group of six and had to wait for seating. It's diner style with some seating at the corners, lots of 4 person booths and three corner booths with round tables. It's first come seating on the honor system and we were seated within 10 minutes. The food came out fresh and out. Our waitress was attentive and kept drinks filled, but didn't hover. There was noise, but it wasn't excessive and we could still visit. This place is famous for its "Hot Hamburger". It's a handmade 1/3 patty on top of Texas toast. It comes with or without cheese and grilled onions. It's topped with hand cut French fries and brown gravy. They have a junior version as well. That's what I ordered. It was still huge. The gravy was very peppery, which I like, but some may not. It was delicious!! Others in our group had the following: Chicken fried steak-huge!! It came with mashed potatoes and a side salad. Eat the steak and you won't have room for taters. It would be a good meal to split. Chicken fried chicken- All white meat and boneless. Not as big as the CFS, but still large! Also came with salad and a side. Chicken Sandwich- Same piece of chicken that came with the dinner. It was huge and came with lettuce, tomato, and pickle. Add cheese and bacon if you want. Came with fries. Hamburgers- handmade patties that were huge and loaded with whatever you'd like. Kids meals were all chicken strips- came with a drink and fries or veggie for $3.99 Kids menu had several items on it and was left at the table with several cups of crayons to keep kids entertained We had a great experience. The atmosphere helped me relax (Mom of four) and not worry about keeping the kids quiet. There was enough variety on the menu that everyone could be satisfied-hamburgers to steak and seafood. We'll be back!

Jerry G.

Yelp
The hot hamburger was great as always. I asked the waitress to divide the ticket and she said they can do it at the register, not very good customer service. Sat there about an hour and fifteen minutes, no one ever wiped the salad area. Very dirty. Time to remodel the bathrooms, at least clean them.

Ray S.

Yelp
Food is great. No fountain drinks because they ran out of CO2 so had to settle for ice tea. Chicken Fried steak with mashed potatoes with brown gray over all.
google avatar

Eric L.

Yelp
Horrible. Just horrible. Gravy out of a can obviously. This place has to be the worst restaurant in Bartlesville. I wish there was a zero stars option.

Michael V.

Yelp
This is the place to go the hot hamburger was so delicious plus after that nice savory gravy fries Texas toast and hamburger patty all together. Then after having a nice refreshing meal you get a nice sweet lemon pie.Which was by far the greatest pie I have ever had.
google avatar

Angela W.

Yelp
Three friends and drove from Tulsa to try the brown gravy on fries and an open faced sandwich. The meal was very savory. The gravy tasted better than it looked. It was not greasy/loaded with fat. It was yummy. The meal was a warm hug on a winter day. It was very filling. Everyone had leftovers due to the large meal portions.

Melissa P.

Yelp
We weren't expecting much when we drove up but wow, the food and the service was excellent. The garlic dressing was yummy and the waitress brought us French fries and gravy to try when we saw others plates we shared a sirloin and was tasty and cooked just right.
google avatar

Jim D.

Yelp
I just happen to be in the area and was in the mood for a good steak so I tried this place out and I'm glad I did as the 25 ounce sirloin cooked as I liked it and was delicious along with a side of green beans and a house salad. Sitting at the counter I was able to watch many of the different plates come in from the kitchen and I've got to say I can't wait to lose some weight so I can come back and try out a lot of these other meals they have. The home fries smothered with gravy looked delicious and the huge helping of mashed potatoes and white gravy tempting as well.
