Murwillumbah Motor Inn

Well situated, Easy to Book, Comfortable with some minor exceptions. Probably 3.5 stars is more accurate. Booking and reception were easy, pleasant and professional. I was even sent an SMS, which unfortunately I didn’t read while in transit, allowing me to check in to my room if Reception was unattended. The room was a “mixed bag”! The main room included a Queen sized bed, 2 comfortable lounge chairs, a desk and chair, a large TV, air conditioner and over head fan! The kitchen contained a wardrobe with a few hangers (not the most appealing aspect of the room/s), microwave, toaster, electric jug, capsule coffee machine with adequate capsules, refrigerator with freezer, crockery, cutlery, wine glasses and water glasses. In another separate alcove near the entrance was a wash basin, towels and hair dryer. The toilet and shower were situated in a separate annex next to the wash basin. The shower would be difficult for seniors to enter. While the small, raised barrier to stop the water from flowing onto the area around the toilet, it may be challenging for older people to access. Otherwise, the water supply was good and hot water, plentiful! The towels were white and fluffy. Perfect! A major problem with the location of the toilet/wash basin is that it is quite difficult to negotiate from the bed at night in darkness. We had to leave a light on in the area overnight which interrupted our sleep. Sensor lights on the floor may be the answer. So, in summary, the room/s (Room 6) were comfortable, well equipped with easy access from the rear car park (no steps). Entering and leaving the rear car park may be a bit difficult for low suspension vehicles.

Stayed here on the final night of a weekend exploring the Northern Rivers Rail Trail, our room was great, bed comfortable, and the room lacked nothing as far as facilities, close enough for an easy walk to the centre of Murwillumbah and even an EV Charger for guest use. Super friendly staff too. The Murwillumbah end of the Rail Trail was the highlight of the trip and will be back again.

Coming from someone with over 40 years experience in the hospitality industry, there are a few small things, that cost very little, that you need to attend to, FAST!! It's 500 degrees Celsius in Murwillumbah most of the year. You don't have the air-conditioning constantly running in your rooms, so a few bottles of cold water in the fridge would make a great welcome. And for the love of Mary - what does a box of tissues cost??? Virtually nothing!! You could provide a box or two of those for people like me who have a raging flu, that way all the snot from my face doesn't end up on the bedding!! And brushing aside your guests motel reviews that aren't so great with your flippant, off handed comments?? NOT GOOD AND DEFINITELY NOT PROFESSIONAL AT ALL!! Whether you are selling the place or not is IRRELEVANT!! No need to be rude when someone has gone to the trouble of leaving a review, good or bad. Time to raise your game if you want to keep operating in the motel space.

Extremely grim and depressing place, very unloved and old. We paid an astronomical $198 for one night. Tiny double bed with a thin, cheap, bouncy mattress, stained carpet, bare brick walls, ancient bathroom, grubby sofa and two worn scatter cushions (and this was, apparently, in an ‘upgraded’ room. I dread to think what a standard room looks like). When I tentatively moved the greasy-looking scatter cushions off the bed, I disturbed an insect which then fluttered around my face for the next 5 minutes until I successfully swatted it. The outside areas had broken tables, overflowing ashtrays, dying pot plants and litter. We even noticed sharp screws sticking up from one table when we were waiting outside for a taxi to take us to our family event. Then, to add to the ‘rustic charm’, the plumbing in the walls was so noisy and incessant (was it next door using their shower or loo?), we got up and left at 11:30pm to drive the 90 mins home to the GC to escape the nocturnal torture. So, we didn’t even stay the night! Such great value. The good reviews this place has received are, quite frankly, astonishing and hard to comprehend. Maybe these happy guests are accustomed to living in a ditch or have recently been released from detention of some kind. We were told by the receptionist that the place was being sold; good luck to the new owners. Hopefully they throw some money at it so it doesn’t present like something out of ‘Psycho’. Frankly, I wouldn’t step foot in this place again if you paid me or I was in a deep coma and had absolutely no choice.

Our vehicle broke down and needed repairs. The staff we so helpful. Would definitely stay again. A quiet and peaceful stay and close to main street.

We arrived ahead of schedule and were pleasantly surprised to be offered an early check-in. From the moment we arrived, the manager greeted us with genuine warmth and hospitality, setting the tone for a relaxing stay. As an added bonus, we were upgraded to a room with a beautiful view of Mt Warning a thoughtful gesture that we truly appreciated. The room itself was spotless, comfortable, and well-appointed with everything we needed for a restful stay. The peaceful surroundings and quiet atmosphere made it easy to unwind. We also loved how conveniently located the Motor Inn was just a short stroll from local cafés, shops, and the scenic riverwalk. It’s the small touches and the genuine care from the staff that really made our visit memorable. We felt welcome, looked after, and able to fully enjoy our brief time in Murwillumbah. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a clean, friendly, and well-located place to stay.

100% recommend. Clean place. I wanted to edit this and say that both Linda and Liza are fantastic! These women make ppl feel safe, which is something we all should appreciate these days. :)
