Exploring Annecy, the Venice of the French Alps | Vogue

"Château d'Annecy, the former home of the counts of Geneva, is now a museum. Its elevated stature provides stunning views of the terracotta roofs of Annecy’s old town, as well as a sliver of the lake and mountains." - Elizabeth Wellington

It is a very impressive building, and the refurbishment of it is very impressive. Lots of history and at the moment has an art exhibition, which will please a lot of people, but I am afraid I am still old school. At 6.50 euros, it is great value. WC's are available in a couple of places, so no need to cross your legs. It's a shame they don't have rides to the top, from the market, but it was very hot, 31 degrees today. 20.06.25. A great visit, thank you 😊

It is worth the effort to walk up the short but steep hill to the chateau for the views alone but it was also worthwhile going inside. Lots of interesting art, both old and new (ish). It's a pretty cheap place to visit and you can go when it suits, no need to book ahead of time. We spent about an hour there which was more than enough. Takes about 10mins to walk there from the base of the hill on old town.

A wonderful castle standing on a slightly higher point in Annecy. One of the steep hills brings you there (not too steep for a wheelchair apparently as Ive seen people go up with some help) Be sure to check it out, sometimes it even has expositions inside, also the view from the castle is excellent

Nice place to visit you can buy a multi ticket to also visit the old prison in town which takes about an hour then time for a coffee and then up the steep hill to the beautiful château. Lots to see very interesting.

Very beautiful place to visit, full of art, history and sections with tales of the old days … stunning views from the different parts of the towers, they open at 10:00 so plan your visit accordingly, kids enjoyed it alot

It’s a steep climb but it’s definitely worth it! 😅 it’s a bridge between the farmers market and this beautiful place. On the Wednesday I was there they were opening at 2:00 pm but not sure if that would change on the other days. I didn’t travel in the peak season so it was ok to buy the ticket on the day.

I adored the museum. It was definitely worth a visit. And the outside of this building is great to photograph.

More than 6,000 years of history. Amazing place. Excellent museography. Do not miss the combined ticket between Chateau de l'isle and the Musee.

Yelp
Museum in a castle. Now who would've thunk it? The cost per person to romp the grounds was 5 Euros, so not too bad. You can't get really lost in here as there's only 1 way in and out. You get to climb a lot of stairs (they're kind of narrow and spiral) and walk around a whole castle, so make sure you have good walking shoes. The special exhibit was African art, which is kind of weird to have in this museum, but why not? There was also a set of contemporary art installations in the other towers which was nice. Make sure you go into all the holes in the walls as you'll find the toilets. They were smart back then. Holes in the castle so that it just goes down somewhere, don't know where, but somewhere. Only thing is you can't take photos in most of the castle. I did sneak a few here and there and also around the castle. Great view of Annecy from here.

Yelp
The museum is worth the fee for the view alone-a spectacular Panoramic of Annecy from the walls of the castle. Each building houses art and archaeology as well as natural history for a mere 10 euros.
