The photographic museum in Lausanne moved from its old cozy villa in the park close to the Olympic museum in Ouchy, overlooking the lake, and opened on Platform 10 three months ago. The intimate feeling of the old place is gone, replaced by a slightly megalomaniac building that it shares with Mudac, the design museum. Photography occupies the basement, on the ground floor, there is the shop and a café, and Mudac is on the first floor. The inaugural exhibition is presenting a general section with a little of everything and further into the premises, photography, paintings and video presentations, related to trains, railroads and train stations. I found it was just too much and too ambitious to peacefully appreciate the individual art works. And beware if you happen to carry a tiny umbrella or pocket tripod, the guards will be after you constantly and ask you to deposit your stuff in the wardrobe, even when the museum is almost empty. A good advice; relax and use your energy to teach the public about what is on display!
