"Saint James Distillery Martinique'sSaint James rum celebrated its 250th anniversary in 2015. The distillery, in the northeast part of the island, makes the rum from pure sugarcane juice. During your tour ofthe museum, in a colonial-style house next to the distillery, you'llsee antique equipment from railroad cars to copper vats. Thenchoose a bottle to take home: white, amber, gold or extra-aged."

Great tour to go on. Just remember the tourist train doesn’t run on Mondays. Free tastings. Lovely old distillery copper machinery to view

We took the train ride which was nice but nothing spectacular and geared toward adults. Full transparency it probably would’ve been better if I understood more French. Nevertheless, I gathered that it was mostly about the flora and fauna of Martinique versus about the Saint James Distillery. That might have been nice, but we were spoiled by the private tour we had at Rhum JM. The overall Museum of Distillation was cool, offering a view of their bank vault with old vintage stock pile of rum from the 1800s. I enjoyed learning more about the Saint James marketing. At the maison, the upstairs Saint James museum was interesting but only took a few minutes to peruse. Finally, the tasting room was the least experiential of the distilleries we toured: the staff was absolutely friendly but didn’t get into the detail of the notes of the rum and how it’s processed (all things to which I’m interested). Nevertheless, the prices of the rum sold were some of the best compared to the grocery store.

Actually fairly disappointing. Tours are only offered in the mornings and the staff were actually a little rude informing us of this. You can still visit the museum but not the working distillation plant. We had a much nicer visit at other distilleries that were still open in the afternoon. The gift shop was open but only full sized bottles are offered.

It's a beautiful place, reminds me of footage from Django Unchained. Excellent rhums at reasonable prices. Very interesting historical pieces of distillation equipment.

Visited Martinique many years ago (1991 it's about time I returned) and visited several rhum producers including St James. St James is still my favourite rhum. 100% from sugar cane. You can just smell the cane. Rich and clean. Even better drink it straight or superb in coctails, a Martinique Planters Punch, Ti Punch/Caipiranha etc., Rhum Agricole is the very best.
