Musée du Vin et du Négoce de Bordeaux

This is one of my favorite places in Bordeaux. As a local guide, I always recommend visiting this museum along with the modern Wine Museum, but this one truly has its own soul and spirit. You’ll discover fascinating objects and historical documents that tell the story of Bordeaux’s wine culture. And the experience is even better because your ticket includes two wine tastings at the end — a perfect way to connect what you’ve learned with the flavors of the region. I love sharing this museum with visitors and helping them uncover the hidden stories behind Bordeaux’s wines, so if you’re curious about wine history and local culture, it’s definitely a must-see!

The Musée du Vin et du Négoce de Bordeaux is a compact museum in the Chartrons district that explores Bordeaux’s wine history through the role of wine merchants. Set in an 18th-century building, it features atmospheric vaulted cellars, trade artifacts, and historical documents. Most visits include a tasting of two Bordeaux wines, and the experience takes about 60–90 minutes. You gain a wealth of knowledge about the intricate intricacies of the wine-making process, and the history is simply remarkable. Being situated in the heart of the wine region has been an incredible experience.

It's the perfect complement to the other wine museum down the street. My favorite was the barrel making video. I watched it several times. The gift shop is really nice. And our tasting after the self guided tour was fantastic. She was so knowledgeable. I wish we stayed there longer and did a full tasting.

Nice little place to learn more about regional wine and history of the trade. It is self guided with an audio option (although they suggested the audio didn't work well and to rely more on the booklet). It did also include a wine tasting - there were five or six bottles in front of the presenter, but we only tasted two wines (so feel free to drink the whole pour and think you will be tasting 5+ wines!). The tasting was a good presentation and they also gave a small handful of chocolate to show you how food and wine pairing is critical and how it greatly alters the flavours.

Must come to visit. The museum tour is simple. But I enjoyed the tour with wine explanation and wine tasting at the end. Good to buy the one day city tour pass from Tourism board in town.

Very great place to experience true history of wine in Bordeaux. This experience felt very local, and the wine tasting came at a great value with little treats included! The room filled with satirical wine posters and bottles was my favorite.

What a little gem. So much to like about it. It is small and self guided but done extremely well with an option to listen to audio on your phone or have a printed version. All of the artifacts are explained and they give you excellent timelines and history. And you are actually in the seller of someone who used to be a wine trader.You also get a little wine tasting with it, which is a nice little Plus. Highly recommend.

This is a small museum in Bordeaux but it has quite a few interesting artifacts. Things like old wine bottles, (many are full) a canoe built without any nails, lots of various wine making equipment, old business logs, old barrels, and on and on. It's worth a stop just to see the things that they have.

Enjoyed the wine tasting and history provided at this magical place. Would return in future.

I enjoyed this museum. I learned a lot about how Bordeaux does wine and how/why it's different from what I'm familiar with. You get a binder in your language of choice, which had a ton of information. There's also a smelling game you can play at the end. And a small tasting which was exactly what we wanted. The staff was great and friendly, I would definitely return if I came with new companions. Very much recommend.

This was a fabulous historical review of the evolution of wine trade in Bordeaux. The tour begins in the wine cellar of an Irish wine merchant and is filled with period pics and pieces depicting the trade. Everything is accompanied by a complete explanation. A wine tasting concludes the tour and includes an explanation of wine in the area.

We are so glad we took time to visit. The friendly staff gave us an overview of the Bordeaux regions and a few samples. Well worth your time.

I enjoyed spending a couple of hours here , learning about the Chartron area and its history . Beautiful old building with interesting history currently a wine museum . We also had the opportunity to taste some wine and for 10 Euros was quite reasonable for Bordeaux . Had interesting souvenirs to purchase as gifts
