"Picasso Museum In 1946, Picasso worked from a studio in the Château Grimaldi of Antibes, creating 23 paintings and 44 illustrations that he gifted to the town. Later, 78 pieces that he designed for the Madoura pottery studios in Vallauris were added to the collection and the château became the world’s first Picasso museum. The nearby Archaeology Museum is housed in a historic fort and explores Antibes’s origin as the ancient Greek town Antipolis."

A must-visit for art lovers, especially if you’re a fan of Picasso. The Musée Picasso in Antibes is set inside the historic Château Grimaldi, with breathtaking views of the Mediterranean. It’s a relatively small museum, but it holds a focused and powerful collection of Picasso’s work created during his stay here after World War II. Some of the pieces were made using recycled materials, due to the scarcity of supplies at the time, which adds a layer of depth and historical context. The sculpture terrace is a highlight, with expressive works displayed against a beautiful sea backdrop. You’ll also find other artists represented, including contemporary works that add variety to the experience. The layout is clean and well-organized, and the building itself is full of character. That said, there are a few downsides. The museum was extremely hot during our visit, with little to no air conditioning, even though it was 34°C outside. It made the experience uncomfortable and rushed, which is unfortunate for a cultural space where people want to take their time. In the summer, you may also have to queue outside in full sun, sometimes for more than 30 minutes, which could be better managed. Staff are friendly, the space is accessible with elevators, and the facilities were clean. At €12 per ticket, it’s well priced for what you get. Despite the heat and the wait, the museum is a gem for anyone interested in Picasso’s work, art history, or simply exploring something unique in a stunning location. With a few improvements, this could easily be a five-star experience.

Incredible museum set inside the Châteu Grimaldi with stunning views of the Mediterranean. Features an intimate yet powerful collection of Picasso’s works created during his stay in Antibes. The sculpture terrace is a highlight. Not too crowded, peaceful atmosphere. A must-visit for art lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

Google
Better to avoid coming in afternoon after their recess , they will make you wait under the hot sun for half an hour and the queue started even 20 minutes before 2, not to purchase ticket but to wait for bag check . Reason being if you queue under the shade then it will block the disabled lift entrance meanwhile there is none in the queue is in need of the disabled lift. BRING CASH , their credit card machine is NOT WORKING , you wouldn’t want to stand under hot sun for 40 minutes and back to your hotel because you didn’t bring enough cash . No online ticket option available The museum has good collection of art pieces but the management really could have done much better job

Love, love, love Picasso. I visited this museum when I did a semester in Malaucene and have wanted to get back for years. It does not have any of his most famous works but was a working studio for him during a fruitful and tumultuous period for him. It is great to spend time in his work space and in such a beautiful and picturesque location.

When visiting Antibes, make sure you take out time to visit Picasso museum.  The experience is mesmerizing.  I am not actually an art lover but the visit is worth it. The view in the balcony facing the sea transforms you into another world.

Google
This museum is worth the 12 euro entry. It is a well laid out castle where Picasso was able to create many pieces that I had never seen. The added bonus of having Xavier's work was fantastic. His pieces spilled out onto the balcony where they overlooked the Mediterranean . A wonderful experience.

Google
Nice museum, spacious and not too large. I spent maybe 30-40 minutes and saw/read everything. There are Picasso works as well as rotating guests’ exhibits. The outdoor terrace is located on the first floor and it’s the first place you can visit as you enter museum or you can come back before leaving. Visited on the weekend, and arrived just 15 min before museum opening time, bought ticket on the spot. There were maybe 10-15 other people in line by the time it opened. Entrance is from the Rue du Bateau.

Google
If u plan to visit during summer, pls bring water and umbrella becos u would have to queue for more than 30mins under hot sun. It makes no sense for the security officer to brief visitors 1by1 about not using flash lights for photos, etc. Not sure why everyone has to queue outside, when the ticketing office is inside the building. Small changes to this process could really make this place much better! Once inside, there's a great Picasso collections, and others too.

Yelp
I appreciate fine art, I really do. However, I just cannot understand Picasso's later works. Maybe it's because I've never had it explained to me. There were about several dozen pieces here, but none that jumped out as being famous. A couple dozen painted dinner plates lined one wall. They had faces painted on them. True or not, the guide explained that he intended to toss about half of them away, but he ended up keeping them.

Yelp
Location is great in the Old Town. Beautiful views onto the sea from the courtyard. Literally half of the museum is not even Picasso. For some reason the museum did not feel the need to label half of the works' artists and the vast majority of the art had no explanation or context provided. What few pieces had a sentence written were only in French. The Picassos were lackluster. Also Picasso was a sexist (see Cherian http://www.people.vcu.edu/~djbromle/modern-art/02/picasso-women/index.htm).

Yelp
Visited this unique small museum while traveling in south of France. The museum is definitely worth a visit if you are in Antibes, and only 6 Euros per visitor. Musee Picasso had a nice outdoor space which has a magnificent view. This attraction will only take like and hour, hour and a half at most. The pieces from Picasso are significant and show how talented he was. This museum also shows a lot of photography of Picasso and how he did his art. This museum also carries art from other artist.

Yelp
This museum is located in a small town of Antibes in South of France. It's very quiet & peaceful around this area but there's still a line if you want to visit. It's not as big as the other Picasso museums but it's certainly worth it because you'll see some pieces that you'll recognize. (If I remember correctly, you can take pictures at this one.) Part of the beauty of Antibes is the ocean and this museum is located literally right by the water. The building itself is very pretty and you have an outdoor area inside the museum where you can overlook the water. I think it was only like 5 euros compared to other Picasso museums are 10 euros. If I'm ever back in Antibes again, I would certainly go back but I wasn't a big fan of Antibes like most other people are. I prefer other towns in south france over antibes so I'm not so sure if I'll ever be back again. But I'm glad I got to check it out.

Yelp
Honestly, after visiting the Paris museum this can be somewhat of a let down. However, if you take it for what it's worth it's still a cool place to visit in the area. It used to be where Picasso would work and there are a Few of his works. If you are very into the art, you may not be as impressed but it's still a cool bucket list item. The most impressive parts are the views from the musuem. Definitely go outside and admire the Mediterranean Sea and take pics! You won't regret it.

Yelp
I was more impressed by the "castle"(bit of a stretch) than the artwork inside. A quarter of the works is decent, the other three quarters are crap, basic, or both. Normal people will won't spend more than an hour in here. Not bad for €6 though.

Yelp
Dang, I am one month too late of being the first to review this place. First of all, I love Antibes. The weather, ocean, people, and food, all of it is amazing. I could see why Picasso chose this place to be his last home. His artwork reflects how inspired he was by the natural beauties surrounding him. I could see him sitting back painting interesting sea creatures, creativity flowing. Right across from the museum is also a room with his pottery also seemingly inspired by his settings. The view from his "backyard" is breathtaking, clear skies and ocean. I have a picture by his sculpture of a sad woman but I don't know why she is so unhappy. If I got to live here everyday you'd see a sculpture of an Asian girl jumping from bliss. This place is a must see even if you're not a Picasso fanatic.

Yelp
If you travel to Antibes- you should make a stop in the Picasso Museum for while small, the views alone are worth the price of admission as this used to be a castle. Know that only the top floor which was his studio has his artwork displayed so it's not a large exhibit. I was actually more interested in the photos that adorn the walls that show him working so that you get a better idea of his life and how he looked. Know that they do not allow backpacks into the museum and will stow them for you up front. If it isn't too large- you may be able to sling it over one shoulder so that it looks more like a purse and they will let that go through. Also know that no photos are allowed flash or no flash. Worth the walk and know that there are also plenty of restaurants in the area to grab a bite at as well.

Yelp
When I visited The Picasso museum Antibes there one of exhibition floor was closed for new exhibition preparation. I think good to read on introduction that wrote Picasso stories about him who was Antibes. So beautiful location see a sea view from inside the museum that maybe Picasso also saw by the same standing position.

Yelp
If you are an avid collecter or follower of Picasso, you might be disappointed by the collection. However, he did spend a nominal amount of time in 1946 creating 23 painting and 44 drawings from his workshop in this very castle, and there is plenty to view and read regarding that period of his work. The castle itself boasts an incredibly rich history, dating back to the middle ages and even inhabited in 1385 by the Monegasque Family prior to becoming the Grimaldi Castle. The scenic terrace makes this musee a must-stop while in Antibes.

Yelp
I've been to the Picasso museum in Barcelona and now in Antibes. Both museums are excellent - but Antibes is located right on the coast - so a winner for me. Very reasonable and keep in mind they Siesta from 11-2pm - so go early or late to avoid being shooed out at lunch. It's probably an hour to view and another 30 minutes taking pictures on the terrace.

Yelp
This museum had a cool terrace overlooking the deep blue waters of Cote d'Azur, the backdrop which inspired Picasso's later works as he had settled here in the later years of his life. In the post-WW2 era, materials were scarce and he had to paint on wooden planks and ceramics which make up a good deal of the works here. He also painted local fishermen as his subjects, as the town of Antibes was a fishing village before it was a hip destination for party-loving, beach-going tourists.

Yelp
Picasso painted in these very light filled rooms. Now they are a museum. I'm sure they were more messy and more cluttered at the time, but it's a rare opportunity to imagine the life of the artist. This historic building was used by Picasso for a few months as a gift of the town council. In return he left the work he made, which has been supplemented by other gifts of Picasso work since. Not the biggest, most comprehensive Picasso collection and there are other artists there too. But well worth visiting to take in the atmosphere and imagine his life with painter, muse and wife Françoise Gilot.

Yelp
Most of the Picasso collection at the museum comes from the specific time he was working there in Antibes, so while the flute-playing goats are interesting, a lot of his other well recognized work is not housed here. However, it's worth it alone to see the building itself, which is rich in history and located in a very, very scenic place.

Yelp
Antibes! Love this town...we went for the Picasso Museum but got so much more out of this charming area. The Picasso Museum was just OK in my book. The work he has displayed there is wonderful, paintings and ceramics. But it's only the top floor. The other floor displays works from other artists, and I enjoyed seeing the work, but I wanted more Picasso. Note - the museum closes for TWO HOURS in the middle of the day. We arrived in Antibes around 11:30 and dawdled our way through the open air market and a jambon sandwich, then meandered along the Rick Steves walking tour of Antibes and by the time we reached the museum at 12:30 it was closed until 2pm! Yikes. So we did a lot more walking and eating of crepes and cappuccinos before it reopened for the afternoon. Overall, it was a good museum and I'm glad we went, but I was not overwhelmed by the exhibit and wouldn't return.

Yelp
Beautiful art, great garden. Plus the chevre.

Yelp
The museums location and view is very beautiful, however the Picasso paintings and pottery are definitely very minor works - don't come in expecting masterpieces for sure. I would still suggest visiting though, it is still very cool to be in the building that Picasso once painted in.

Yelp
In the surrounds of Gouffre de Padirac, there are a share of restaurants, which seem a euro or two dearer than elsewhere, maybe dearer even than those on the outskirts of the attraction. It was in the middle of lunch time when we sat down at the close at hand Restaurant Les Visiteurs where we each enjoyed Moules Frites (EUR11.50) and a Breton cider (EUR3.20, available at EUR2.50 in other restaurants). A thunderclap went off in the distance but the sun stayed shining in the area.

Yelp
It's a good place to visit and it is located in the old Antibes, which is also worth to have a look. Picasso spends the last part of his life there.

Yelp
The review by Lolive says it all really. One of my favourite places to spend an hour or two in Antibes and I am far from being an expert in art. This place has a wonderful 'atmosphere' and I have fond memories of spending time in here on a baking hot day.
