18 Places To See Uncanny Specimens of Wax Anatomy

"Clemente Susini began working in a wax anatomical studio when he was only 19 years old. He wound up becoming the best wax anatomical modeler the world had ever known. The work in the Calagari museum consists mainly of his later models, which are considered to be some of his finest work. The “Anatomical Venuses,” full-length nude women with their insides displayed to the world, are perhaps the most famous of the models. Susini’s models, painstaking to produce and incredibly fragile, can be seen in only a few other locations throughout the world, including La Specola Museum in Florence, the Semmelweis Museum in Budapest, and the Josephinum in Vienna." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

A must-visit for anyone interested in ancient history. The museum offers a well-curated journey through prehistoric to Roman times. The highlight is the impressive collection of Nuragic bronze statuettes. Also worth seeing are the Neolithic artifacts, Punic and Roman finds. It is not so big. You will need a little bit more than one and a half hours. Recommend to visit.

Free on the first Sunday of every month, but would be well worth the cost of entry. It teaches the 5000+ year history of Sardinia and Cagliari very effectively. English and Italian displays throughout. They have recreated some artifacts for people to hold. They have also restored some artifacts using plain materials and glass/plastic to demonstrate where the fragments would be on a complete item, I think that is a very effective way of displaying these items and more museums should follow this approach.

It's a well-done museum, not as big as some of the larger cities, but very comprehensive, covering prehistory up until the Middle ages. The ramps and staircases can be a little bit confusing as you start at the most ancient and hopefully end up at the most recent. Currently it is €10.

Super nessesary place to understand value of history of the island. I just have been embarrassed about closed first floor because of the renovation…seriously in this island every renovation is around the season, not in winter?? 🥲

It is a must for people who like art and would like to know the history of Sardinia. The pieces exposed are exceptional, and I was extremely surprised at how cheap it is, only 2 euros. The visiting route is not well organised, partly from the architectural design of the building with too many intermediate levels, but also from the design itself of the exhibition, which could be better with a bit more interactive rooms as well. Very good idea for the replicas that visitors can touch. It was good for me and my daughter, so ut made the visit more entertaining for her.

The museum is very well organized, it contains over 8000 years of history in this island. The entrance ticket is 9 euro (25years above)which contains also a gallery upstairs. The first Sunday of every month the entrance is for free. It takes at least three hours to fully appreciate this museum. Some knowledge of pre historic periods are recommended before visiting the museum to better appreciate the values of the items. I have learned so much information about Sardinia that is absolutely inaccessible elsewhere. definitely recommend people who enjoy art and history to visit at least once time in one’s life.

This island has such a rich history... It is well shown here... Unfortunately there is no gift or book shop...
