Museo de la Música Puertorriqueña

Visiting for first time and love learning new culture. Came here after being recommended from another museum that was temporarily closed for remodel and adjusting their exhibits. Very happy to have came here! With no charge (but donations accepted), me and husband enjoyed our great tour guide! He was very knowledgeable and very well spoken and made the tour well worth the trip. Asked questions about us and very charismatic. Would definitely go again if/when I come back with family.

This gem of a museum is packed with interesting instruments and exhibits, but the best part is the docent. We left with a more complete understanding of the Puerto Rican music influences and heritage than of any American music genre! Fascinating and comprehensive. Our family (a music teacher, teen musician, and avid listener) loved this museum. Good for middle school and up. Maybe skip for younger kids as the museum is not air conditioned and the tour is about an hour. Anyone else, consider it a must see in Ponce! Also the building itself is quite beautiful.

Anibal is the best host: curator historian. Museo de la Música is a great space to learn about all the influences of the puertorrican music. A must if you visit Ponce, even better that is open Saturdays and Sundays. Structure needs a lot of restoration, something that the municipality should take care of. Where are the asambleístas and legisladores??

Listed as "temporarily closed," but was open on Feb 16th, 2022. The guide was very passionate about the history of items on display as well as Puerto Rico's musical history. The building also had lovely architecture, from the beautiful flooring to the ornate ceilings.

This was an interesting and excellent museum for me. The museum guide was extremely informative and passionate about the art, music and history of Puerto Rico ~ the guide brought me to tears with pride and joy of my legacy. No tickets necessary- free to public. Very educational- HIGHLY RECOMMEND

This museum is awesome! We were greeted at the door by a guide and he walked us through the rooms and explained and shared music with us. It could use some updates but the guides make it a wonderful experience. Free admission and definitely a must see if you are coming into Ponce :)

It’s an amazing little museum with a rich history and really neat artwork! Loved coming here and learning so much. The staff was so nice too.

One of my favorite museums in Ponce, important for its historical value, needs some updating, but still an amazing opportunity to learn about music history in Puerto Rico.
