"Visit the World's Largest Toy Museum The story behind the founding of the Museo del Juguete Antiguo México (Museum of the Antique Mexican Toy) is almost as charming and intriguing as the collection of toys itself. Roberto Shimizu, Sr., who founded the museum with his son, Roberto Shimizu, Jr., began collecting toys when he was a child and in the decades since, has amassed a collection of literally millions of toys. He decided it was important for the collection to be accessible and visible to the public, partly to document the history of toy-making in Mexico and the world. The space occupied by the museum covers several floors, but it's barely large enough to showcase all of Shimizu's treasures, which he has catalogued carefully in numerous notebooks and binders. That may be hard to believe, given the fact that the museum is crammed wall-to-wall and floor-to-ceiling with toys of every type: from plastic soldiers to board games and Barbies to model trains. The museum is a cabinet of curiosities for the kid in all of us."

"The Museo del Juguete Antiguo México is a quirky museum in Colonia Doctores that arose from architect Roberto Shimizu Kinoshita's passion for toys. The museum, as the name implies, houses an extensive collection of toys. Thousands upon thousands of toys from the 19th century to the 1980s, with a particular emphasis on those that were popular in Mexico. As you wander more than four floors, you will likely find more than a few objects that make you feel nostalgic for your childhood." - Susannah Rigg

Google
Wonderful odd ball museum. Was expecting just old toys but actually lots of contemporary art and other oddities. Huge space so fun to explore. If you like off beat destinations highly recommend. One of the more memorable stops for us in CDMX. Reminded me a bit of PS1 in NYC where the building and space itself is part of the experience.

My daughters and I had a great time here for about 1.5 hours. They loved the old Barbies and other vintage toys and artwork. It was empty when we went on a Thursday afternoon but is a great value at only 50 pesos per person (and free for small children).

The BIGGEST HIDDEN GEM in MEXICO CITY!!!!!!!!!! One of my FAVORITE museums not only in Mexico city, but the ENTIRE WORLD!!!!!!!!! Incredible unique museum, with an infinite amount of toys to get lost in!!! Multiple floors with many rooms of unique art decor, and a beautiful rooftop overlooking the city. My favorite parts of the museum were the the SNOOPY room, KING KONG room, and room of masks!!! Plus there is a large shop to buy unique collectors toys at reasonable prices to make your own! For nostalgia lovers, trust me, DO NOT MISS this musuem!!! I could truly spend hours indulging in everything this museum has to offer. Plus the museum entry is a great price allowing anyone to simply come in, and enjoy its magic!!!!! (FYI- I did not want to post many pictures of the toys, so that guests can truly be surprised of what they find here!) Have fun!!! And thank you Museo del Juguete Antiguo México for such a great experience and for this great memory of Mexico City!!!!!!!

Google
Amazing museum. They have a little bit of everything! It's a must go to place! From old japanese toys to almost every barbie released! Tons of old mexican toys i never knew were produced as well! Amazing A few issues though: 1) all the workers were just doing stuff upstairs in one room so we couldn't buy anything at the gift shop 2) there's a room with what seeks to be 2 gay naked furries kissing, surrounded by straight pin up art... so don't bring your kids in that room. 3)the restrooms don't have toilet paper and smell

This place is absolutely magical, a full-blown nostalgia smorgasbord! If you're a kid, or simply a kid at heart, you will not regret visiting. We spent a good 3 hours here, and could have stayed longer if not for a previous engagement. Do yourself a favor, and make it a point to visit this wonderland of toys of days gone by, a simpler time.

Google
Incredible. A rambling and eclectic collection of toys spanning 4 floors. Everything from Barbie to old, rustic hand-made toys. The presentation initially appears to be purely random hoarder, but before long it becomes apparent that in most of the rooms there is an amazing wierdness at play. Some of the displays are pure art. Reactions vary from "cute" to "I had one of those!" to "why is that baby holding it's own head". Kids will like it, but adults will truly appreciate the sheer volume of sensory input. It's strange and wonderful and totally worth the admission.

Yelp
Quite possible one of the modern wonders of the world. Here you will find six stories of vintage toys from all over the world. They have tin toys, barbies, superheros, cars, trains, luchadore memorabilia and so much, much more. This is a mecca for toy collectors and worthy of pilgrimage. If you are a collector and visiting CDMX, if you do nothing other then visit this museum you would have a magnificent trip! Double highly recommend.

Hands down the most exquisite toy collection!! It's more than just toys, it's a capsule of history captured by the decades! Definitely make time to visit while in CDMX!!! Bravo!!!

Yelp
These are really two musuems - one a collection of vintage toys, the other a collection of street art. Both are worth seeing. My wife and I stopped in here on a weekday afternoon. The museum was mostly deserted. You can probably spend 2-3 hours here. A couple of floors of vintage toys, dolls, and a floor or two of street art (covering the stairwells and the rooftop patio). I'd definitely recommend.

Yelp
This may be my favorite museum EVER. For about $2.50, you get access to 4 floors of weird and quirky. I'm talking toys you didn't even think could exist. Their were even some American board games and other stuff I hadn't even thought of in years. The section with the Lucha Libre stuff was probably my favorite. This is the best museum in CDMX if you are into off the beaten path stuff. TRUST ME. BONUS: Head to the rooftop. They have tons of street art style murals and an amazing view of the city. I would have paid just to have headed to the roof alone!!

Yelp
MUJAM is amazing and deserves my 900th review. It was recommended to us because we enjoy looking at street art/graffiti when we travel, and there's a wonderful collection of it here. You wouldn't know it, just looking from the outside. The entrance to the museum is up a relatively dark stairway. We had no clue and ended up in the parking lot and then in the gift shop. After meandering and looking a bit lost, we were directed up the stairs. Thankfully, someone pointed us in the right direction! As we were going through the first section of the exhibit, one of the employees came up to us and told us that the owner wanted to meet us?! We had no clue what that meant, but upon meeting Roberto Shimizu, we knew we'd found a gem of a museum. Mr. Shimizu gave us a bit of background of his museum, and for that, we are truly grateful. It is much bigger than it looks, and the impressive part about this old toy collection is that it started out as Mr. Shimizu's obsession with collecting. We would call it "hoarding" nowadays, but he turned it into an educational experience. All the toys are pre-owned, some of them from his own childhood, but many others donated or purchased by the museum. As mentioned earlier, there's an amazing collection of street art/graffiti too. Ask one of the employees to let you up onto the rooftop! It's worth it! Also, make a donation to show your appreciation of the whole experience. We spent a few hours here and had the best time! If we were living in Mexico City, we would probably check out some of their community art events!

Yelp
I don't have much to say about this place, you just have to see it for yourself. The name of this place is "The Mexican antique toy Museum" and trust me, it goes beyond that. Yes, they have very old and amazing toys but also some of the weirdest things I have ever seen. And what surprises me the most, is that all of it is a private collection. This place is bizarre, magical, scary, amazing, creepy, funny.... I could keep going. Just trust me when I tell you that this will exceed all of your expectations. Too bad weed is illegal in Mexico because that would be an amazing trip hahaha.

Yelp
What an amazing place! If you find yourself in Mexico City, or just live there, you should absolutely check this place out. It is four stories of some of the craziest old toys I have ever laid my eyes upon. Just go. Now.

An absolute must. A bizarre, wonderful, fun and delight of an experience. If you like galleries, toys, museums, oddities, flea markets this is for you. It's sooooooo wacky and great.
