The Amalfi Medieval Paper Museum offers a great guided walk-through of the region’s rich papermaking history. You’ll learn about how handmade paper was produced using cotton and water-powered machinery, some of which still operates today. The museum’s paper has even been said to be used by the Vatican and the Pope, adding to its historical charm. One of the highlights is getting to try your hand at making a sheet of paper yourself, an authentic and hands-on experience.

A truly authentic experience in Amalfi – thanks to Elisabetta! Today we had a tour of the Paper Museum with Elisabetta as our guide, and it was truly special. Although the tour is short, it’s full of history, interesting facts, and interactive moments. Elisabetta was fantastic: clear, friendly and engaging. She’s a dynamic guide who showed us how the old machines worked and even let us try making paper ourselves- such a unique and hands-on experience! I highly recommend this visit to anyone coming to Amalfi. The museum is just a short walk from the port, easy to reach even with children. Thank you again to Elisabetta for this beautiful experience! ❤️

Worth the walking up the hill to visit this museum. You learn a lot in a little amount of time and you can make your own paper with them! The gift shop also has great gifts for those that love to write whether it’s a journal or post cards!

I had no idea this place was in Amalfi. We were simply wandering up through the main street when the small waterfall caught our eye behind the ornate metal gate. We saw the museum sign and decided to stop in - simply walk up the street another 20 m to go in the main entrance. If you are into writing or drawing, this place is a must. It is a 7 Euro entrance fee to head into the original workshop. This is truly an amazing learning experience. You get a chance to see functioning machines and go through the initial paper construction for yourself. It was not on my to-do list in Amalfi, but after going through it, it should be on your yours. Such a unique experience tucked away from the main square. Thanks.

This is a little gem of a shop you must visit if you are in Amalfi! They will give you a tour of the paper making process of old in their very old shop. Was very interesting, quick tour. They are tucked away up high on the main street, but worth the walk up away from the crowds.

A charming step back in time! An excellent little trip into history, when paper was made from unwanted clothing! This lovely, interactive museum offers a brief but fascinating look into the origins of papermaking. For a reasonable fee, you’ll travel back through the centuries and discover several working papermaking machines from different eras — all powered by good old H2O. The guided tour is just the right length — not too short, not too long — and you even get to make your own sheet of paper à l’ancienne! Perfect for taking some stunning photos in picturesque Amalfi, Italy. Don’t miss the gift shop, filled with beautiful, high-quality products you can treat yourself with — or bring home for someone special. Highly recommended! Big thanks to our amazing guide, and best wishes to the whole team.

Short guided tour that provides the essential information on an industry that was once thriving in Amalfi. Nice gift options. I was stunned to witness that centennial machines are still running despite their age. Worth visiting.

We found out about the Amalfi Paper Museum from a shop on the main street that sells the beautiful handmade Amalfi paper. It’s just a short walk from the main area, a few minutes up the road. The tour was short, interactive, and really enjoyable. Our guide, Chiara, was lovely and professional, making the experience truly memorable. The museum also has a great shop with unique paper products, perfect for gifts. Highly recommend visiting!

Yelp
This museum is about a 10 minute walk from the town square. It's nice to get away from the crowds of Amalfi's main drag. It is €7 for a guided tour or €1.50 for a self-guided pamphlet. The guided tour was worth it because the guide showed us the machines in action and provided hands-on experience in paper-making. It's an informative tour for both adults and kids. As a souvenir, the guide will let you take a sample of paper dried from a previous tour group and give you a free museum postcard. I never thought I would enjoy learning about *paper*. I have become one of the characters on The Office.

Yelp
The tour, at seven euro, was worthwhile. We learned about the history of paper making in Amalfi and we each made a sheet of paper ourselves. I spent a few more euro in the gift shop. The merchandise costs less at a nearby store, but buying here supports the museum. Worth the walk up the hill!

Yelp
We came here with the kids and had a great time. It is small and the tour experience is 20 minutes, so plan on 30 minutes for this activity. You have to walk all the way to the back of town on the main road, but it was worth it. You begin and end at the gift shop of course, where they have paper items for sale that were made right there at the mill. There is a self guided tour and guided tour option. You must do the guided tour. It is so interactive and you get much more out of it. The first thing we did was make our own paper. You use the actual machinery and make your own sheet. It takes time to dry, so the sheet you make is not the one you get to take home. But they have others just like it that came before you that you can take home. We then watched a lot of the machinery run and you wouldn't get either of these if you did the self guided tour. Our guide was great and had some fun facts to share. Great hands-on activity, especially if you have kids.

Yelp
Interesting bit of history on the town of Almafi - short tour (in English). I recommend this - and it is also the way to the fantastic Ferriere Valley hike. Just head north on the main road from the center of town for about 10 or 15 minutes and it is on the left hand side.
