I didn’t know what to expect from Museo Faggiano, but it turned out to be one of the most surprising and unique museum experiences I’ve had. From the outside, it looks like an ordinary building, but inside it reveals an incredible archaeological journey uncovered during a simple home renovation. Every room holds secrets from centuries past — from Roman cisterns to medieval escape routes. One of the family members was there to share the story, and his passion made the visit even more special. A true hidden gem in Lecce — totally worth your time, even if you're not usually into museums!

Amazing place, one that provides the whole history of Southern Europe within the layers of one house! Suggestion: read at least a bit of history of this area prior to visiting if not familiar with it, and come with an open mind. In comfortable clothes/shoes so as to go be able up and down the stairs in order to grasp everything. If you visit late in the afternoon/early evening in winter, have your phone light at your hand. Trully a unique piece of a loooong history! Not to be missed in this beautiful town.

Very unique and interesting. Lots of steep stairs so not accessible if youre on the larger side or have bad knees... or claustrophobia.

Really nice museum, and what an amazing story of discovery! A pleasant way to walk through local history in the heat of the day. We also verified with locals that this is indeed a genuine historical place, so rest assured.

This unique place is definitely worth a visit. Takes you up 4 levels and through thousands of years of history.

Absolutely must see! The inspiring story of a man and his family discovering history underneath their home is well told through a numbered guide. At the entrance you get explanations for everything that you can see inside in your language – very nice touch! To get into the museum you have to pay 5€, that are going to be worth it. Inside there is quite a lot of exploring to do, but you are going to have seen everything within 20min.

What a phenomenal museum! An absolute treasure! Walking through the rooms and looking at some of the artefacts the family unearthed really gives you an appreciation of how much history is present within even “lesser known” towns and cities in the country. The museum is wonderfully presented and one of the sons, Marco, was present and provided even more insight into their excavations and discoveries.

Amazing little museum with an incredible story behind. One of the son explained us the whole story, it was very touching and fascinating to hear about this extraordinary adventure and to see how brave and dedicated this family went through the whole process and still continuing. A little gem that you have to see while visiting Lecce. Thank you Marco for your kindness and for sharing your family story with us.

Yelp
I arrived five minutes before closing and they were gracious and allowed me to stay as long as I wanted. Great historical place and the owners were willing to answer so many questions and happy to share their story.

Yelp
This small museum is hidden away but is well worth the visit. For such a small space it's packed full of history. There are self guided tours at your own pace to explore.

Yelp
What an amazing place! We were in Lecce walking around the old city and came across this museum. SO glad that we found it. Really makes you wonder what is beneath the rest of the old building throughout the area.
