The building is spectacular! I love the way they have the mineral set up very easy to go through. They have some beautiful local minerals as well as international minerals. You need a few hours to really enjoy it. Highly recommend for children. It’s a great learning experience into the world of geology.

Free museum, really well kept and the collection is HUGE. I love minerals and whenever I visit a new city I always go to Natural Science museums, because usually there are none dedicated only to minerals. On the ground floor you can find fossils, minerals and rocks. 1rst floor is dedicated to fossils and the second floor displays minerals and rocks found in Spain, divided by each region. The thing that I appreciated the most was that each mineral had it's own chemical composition written on the label, which was really cool and I've never found it before at any other museum I've visited!! If minerals are your passion or you have a few hours to spare, you should definitely pay a visit!

This museum was an absolute gem (pun intended). There were thousands of fossils, rocks, and bones to marvel at spread out over several floors that were accessible via spiral staircases. The space itself was stunning, with a large open ground floor (that had a mastodon skull on display!), glass sunroof, and exhibits around the periphery. The descriptions were almost all in Spanish, but even without the descriptions, the items on display were impressive. Definitely a must-see if you're in the area.

The Museo Geominero is a free museum located in Ríos Rosas, Madrid. While the Spanish Geological and Mining Institute (IGME) dates to 1849 the museum itself has been open to the public since 1927. The museum is located in the hq of the IGME which was constructed between 1921 and 1925 and designed by Spanish architect Francisco Javier de Luque. The museum has an excellent collection of rocks, minerals and fossils which are a lot of fun to look at compare. Specimens on display are predominantly from Spain and its former colonies. The architecture of the grand hall however was a personal highlight as the huge open central gallery space was truly quite breathtaking. The coloured stained-glass ceiling gives the hall an open feeling unlike other I have experienced before and made the space feel quite prestigious. The museum is free to enter and really impressed me upon my visit, it has metro access via the Ríos Rosas stop on the Madrid Metro.

Wow. Just wow. We are hobbyist field collectors from UK and generally find mineral museums to be a bit of a jumbled mess, or missing the high quality systematic/locality based approach. This museum was exceptional, great specimens of both fossils and minerals, lots of info and was free to enter. We spent a couple of hours and I could have spent more, but we were only visiting Madrid for the day. Was great to see some specimens from our home turf, and one from a locality I have visited in the UK Only gripe was the majority was not translated, but we can not expect this as visitors to another country. Would highly recommend visiting!

While the main reason to visit this museum is its collection of rocks, crystals, gems and fossils, the building itself is a must see for its beauty and splendour. Its huge collection is presented in a very archaic way, in the Spanish language only, but I enjoyed it nevertheless. It can get very busy with rowdy teens as it is frequently visited by schools.
