"Fort Zoutman Historical Museum Located inside Aruba ’s oldest surviving structure, this museum offers a fascinating look at the island’s evolution. Open weekdays, it boasts artifacts from the Caiquetio people and Dutch colonialists as well as items from modern-day Aruba. The complex itself, however, is the real draw. Dating from 1798, it was constructed to defend the island against pirates. The adjacent Willem III Tower was built in 1868 and served as Aruba’s first public clock and lighthouse."

Simple museum but I am glad we went. Tells some of the history of the island. On Tuesdays they have a Bon Bini festival for a $15 entrance fee. They perform cultural dances, have food and drink. It looks fun!

For the price ($15 USD cash) I would not recommend visiting. The museum consists of a neat building structure with small wood fire kitchen exhibit, 2 room exhibit area, stage area, concession area, and clock tower. It took us about 30-60 mins to view the museum. While the artifacts were interesting, more placards would be helpful to understand the historical significance. The area regarding hat weaving had great descriptions. The trek up the clock tower was a fun little adventure up several stairs/ ladders. The 360 deg view from the top was beautiful at sunset. On Tuesday’s they stay open later and have performances, but we didn’t stay for it. For the cost and based on the museum description online, I would try the National Archaeological Museum of Aruba instead.

It’s a nicely maintained museum with interesting information about early Aruban people but it’s not a must-see. My kids liked playing in the model dwelling. It’s a nice thing to do if you are hungry for culture among beach visits or are curious about early Aruban life. Air conditioned!

The Museo Histórico Aruba, housed within the impressive Fort Zoutman, offers visitors a captivating glimpse into Aruba's rich cultural heritage. One of the highlights of a visit to this museum is the opportunity to experience the Bon Bini Festival, which takes place every Tuesday evening. For just $15 per person, you can immerse yourself in the island's vibrant traditions and customs through a live performance featuring local music, dance, and song. The festival is a true celebration of Aruban culture, with a lively band and talented dancers transporting you to the heart of the island's festive spirit. The grand finale of the Bon Bini Festival is an impressive Carnival experience, complete with a boisterous brass band and a dazzling display of colorful costumes. This unexpected and delightful culmination of the evening leaves a lasting impression, making you feel truly welcomed and embraced as part of the Aruban community. In addition to the captivating cultural experiences, the museum itself is well worth a visit. The air-conditioned galleries provide a refreshing respite from the tropical heat, allowing you to explore the exhibits that chronicle Aruba's fascinating history and heritage. Whether you're seeking an authentic cultural immersion or a deeper understanding of the island's past, the Museo Histórico Aruba, with its Bon Bini Festival and informative exhibits, is a must-visit destination during your Aruban adventure. Be sure to mark your calendar and join in the celebration of Aruba's vibrant traditions and welcoming spirit.

The entrance fee is kind of expensive for what you see ($15). Althought the climbing to the top of the fortress is fun and scary, not everyone can fit on those tiny ladders.
