"Sicily has a long tradition of puppet shows, and they're not intended merely to amuse the kids. These are elaborate theatrical works that tell complex stories through beautifully crafted marionettes. Palermo's International Museum of Marionettes Antonio Pasqualino (its full name) honors the art as it's performed in Sicily and in other cultures around the world. The 3,500 puppets on display come from Sicily, Japan, Indonesia, Cambodia and parts of Africa. You can even watch marionettes in action in a theater on the top floor; check the schedule to see what's playing during your visit."

The museum itself is quite small and cozy. It was very interesting to watch the puppet show along with a visit to the museum. I guess if you just look at the dolls, it's a bit boring and doesn't give you a complete understanding of the entire museum. I highly recommend visiting the museum to watch the play!

A truly special place about puppets from all over the world! It even includes a large theatre in which they hold traditional puppet shows! Definitely worth a visit!

Interesting experience, you have a short history of the marionette and a lot of visible examples of Sicilian Pupi and other international stuff….worth a visit

This is one of the most interesting museums that I've ever seen. It has collections of puppets and marionettes from all over the world. It's very well explained in both Italian and English. It is a surprisingly large collection, which is grouped according to region and theme. I had no idea that puppetry was such an extensive and varied performing art, and it was an eye-opener. One of the most interesting forms of puppetry may be that from Vietnam, where the puppets perform on water, controlled by puppeteers operating underwater rods. It would be a very good place for kids if they stay with adults all the time.

For €5 it was a good 45 minutes, and for €5 more the show was definitely worth it. The 4 year old in our party loved it. It needed a bit more introduction and explanation about each of the local traditional characters...but maybe for a siciliana that was all blindingly obvious!

A wonderful and truly fascinating museum—full of atmosphere and character. The exhibits were thoughtfully arranged, creating an immersive and engaging experience that made it easy to lose track of time. What made our visit even more special was the incredibly kind and welcoming staff. We wanted to buy two postcards as souvenirs, but the signora at the counter didn’t have the right change. Instead of turning us away or making things complicated, she simply smiled and told us we could take the postcards for free. It was a small gesture, but it left a big impression—it really showed the warmth and hospitality of the place. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a meaningful and memorable visit.

We arrived on a whim on a Sunday. The museum is structured so that no guide is needed and you can meander at your own pace, reading plaques to explain (Italian/English) each section. I absolutely loved this museum and it's a highlight of my whole trip to Italy. We didn't get to watch the show, as it was Sunday, but there are videos that play in various display areas, showing how the puppets are used across different cultures. There are books for sale in the entryway, some were in English.

A very cool hidden gem in the historical centre. A very very diverse set of puppets spanning every continent are on display in pretty exhibits around the museum. The Sicilian puppets are very well made and there are so many! We couldn’t stay for the show but I’m sure that would have been worth watching as well.
