10 Best Museums To Visit in Buenos Aires | Condé Nast Traveler

"Spanish influence can be seen across Latin America, though especially in Argentina, where many locals are of Spanish descent. Here in residential Belgrano, beyond the typical tourist track, author Enrique Larreta’s former residence has been turned into the city’s only Spanish museum and cultural center. Highlights include a 16th-century Gothic-style altarpiece; Renaissance and Baroque period paintings; and a portrait of Enrique Larreta himself, along with a number of unique Spanish objects, like weapons and swords and hand-carved sculptures. Go on Thursdays, when entry is free, and if nothing else, make time to check out the Jardín Andaluz, the perfectly pruned garden; it used to be a hangout for Argentine socialites." - Allie Lazar

A very small museum in Belgrano, conveniently close to Juramento subway station. Inside, there are a few interesting paintings, along with some intriguing sculptures and reliefs. It’s really more of a “mini museum” than a must-see spot. The garden, however, is beautiful—though I didn’t see many places to sit, which would make it even more enjoyable. There’s also a café at the back, but oddly, it’s separated from the museum; you actually have to exit the museum to access it. Overall, it’s fine—something you can see in about 15 minutes. Admission is 2,000 pesos for residents and 10,000 pesos for non-residents.

Beautiful gardens and baroque rooms with 16th and 17th-century religious paintings and gilded wood carvings. Check the website for the guided tour of the gardens (twice a month), which provides sensible insights about the palace history and design. Great variety of Spanish glazed tiles everywhere.

Absolutely gorgeous garden that should not be missed. We had a wonderful reading event today and the people were so helpful. Museo Larreta is a gem of a museum, the perfect place for a respite from the city. Save your receipt and use it for a discount at the cafe next door.

This is a beautiful museum. The art collection, the building, and the gardens are magnificent. You can also visit the church of the Immaculate Conception across the street.

Our favourite of the three small museums we visited in the area one afternoon. This former residence is elegant and has a royal, palatial feel. The religious artefacts are incredible, and the garden is a wonderful sanctuary from the busy streets outside. The whole experience of visiting the wonderfully presented and preserved museum was like stepping into another world. Highly recommended and free entry on Wednesdays.

Wonderful museum of Spanish art, perhaps the best collection in South America. Artwork titles are in English, but not descriptions. Expansive and luscious gardens. Foreigners pay 5x the normal price. Free entry for all on Wednesdays.

Small museum that was was the home of Argentinan writer Enrique Larreta. He was a huge proponent of Spanish art and literature. There is a nice collection as well as seeing a beautiful home and garden. The cost is currently $2,000 ARS for foreigners ($500 ARS for locals).
