10 Best Museums To Visit in Buenos Aires | Condé Nast Traveler

"San Telmo’s experimental modern art museum, housed inside a former tobacco factory, only opened a few years ago—but it's already become a favorite for those active in the city's art community. Museumgoers will learn about modern art from an Argentine perspective, especially since the museum tends to show up-and-coming local artists as well as established big name tickets. The museums has on display more than 7,000 pieces of modern and contemporary art, with works from the 1950s to modern day. And we aren’t just talking about paintings and sculptures; collections also include industrial and graphic design." - Allie Lazar

The permanent collection is rather modest, but the staff are very friendly and helpful. There seem to be occasional temporary exhibitions as well. On the ground floor, there’s a small café with fair prices, and a modest gift shop where prices are also reasonable. Entrance is 10,000 pesos for foreigners and 4,000 for Argentine residents. About an hour is enough to visit. Restrooms are clean.

It is a very nice Art Museum - I fell in love with the huge windy staircase, a showcase in itself as well as the brick structure that houses the little cafe. Entry to museum is free on Wednesdays. It has very interesting pieces of Argentinean artwork. Showcase as well was also a Nigerian artist Onome Akeh. There's a small outdoor area for those who wish to sit in the sun. By the way, the cafe has quite good coffee, assorted selection of pastries and fresh squeezed orange juice. A wonderful place to come enjoy artwork, rest, drink in the ambience.

The exhibition is good, very nice collection. There's a cafe inside as well. It would be nice to spend an afternoon there. There's locker outside.

Compared to the modern art museums we visited in other countries, this one is actually quite ‘modest’. Some artifacts are very delicate and not eccentric at all. Worth spending an hour also there.

I mean if you like that kind of art the museum is amazing. Do not expect, however, to see a traditional piece that – I guess that's on me. Anyway, I liked the experience in general: the building is beautiful, there are some interesting works, and the location allows you to get there easily by taking public transportation. I went on a holiday, and I paid 5000, but that may very, because that was the price for the day for Mercosur citizens.

Yelp
The museum is worth seeing. About eight percent of what they show is utterly amazing ... and worthy of totally serious study and long contemplative gazes. The shows change frequently, but all of the shows I saw had at least one and often more than one dramatically amazing piece of art. About forty percent of what they show here is godawful. This is about the same rate as what they have at the Museu de Bellas Artes in Belgrano. Don't look at the ugly stuff. Look at the amazing stuff. And you will have a wonderful afternoon. * * * * Technically, Yelp is a restaurant reviewing site Although people review everything on here as one time or another. How is the cafe? Great tables for sitting or working on your computer. Wonderful art work on the wall. (Robust stuff that could tolerate spilled coffee or a toddler's spaghetti mistake.) My coffee and cookie were ho hum. But the room is nice. If I had some art criticism to write ... This would be a fine place to do it. And BOY could I say a lot about the good stuff and the bad stuff on these walls.
