So cool!! A ton of stuff, organized well, and informative. There are cool outside sections as well. We went on Sunday, bought tickets there and didn’t have to wait that long. However, there was a big line when we left so if you can buy tickets online you might as well. You can bring a small/medium bag inside. It’s huge so anticipate being there awhile. I’d say it’s a must see!

Visiting the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City was an amazing experience. The museum is huge, beautifully designed, and full of stories that help you understand Mexico beyond food and sightseeing. From traditional weaving looms and Indigenous homes to colorful ceremonial dresses and everyday tools, everything reflects deep cultural roots. What I loved most is that it never feels boring. The visuals, colors, and craftsmanship keep you engaged throughout. Entry is only 100 pesos per person and absolutely worth it. Some of the houses even reminded me of old Bangladeshi village homes. The mud walls and simple structures felt familiar and nostalgic, showing how cultures far apart can still share similar ways of life.

This museum is an absolute must-visit in Mexico City. The moment you step inside you can feel the depth of history and culture that Mexico has to offer. The exhibits are beautifully curated — from ancient Olmec and Maya artifacts to detailed explanations about Aztec life, language, and cosmology. The layout is logical and easy to follow. The centerpiece, the Aztec Sun Stone, is breathtaking in person — far more impressive than in photos. Every room offers something new to learn, and the artifact preservation is exceptional. The outdoor gardens and courtyard are also lovely places to take a break between galleries. Highly recommend for history and culture lovers — or anyone visiting Mexico City who wants a deeper understanding of the country’s rich heritage!

Visited February 2026. One of the best museums I’ve ever seen. The layout and sheer scale of the pre‑Columbian artifacts are world‑class. Mexico has done an extraordinary job preserving and showcasing its history—something every country should aspire to. Only reason for 4 stars: Most exhibits (90%) had descriptions only in Spanish. English translations were limited, which made it harder to fully appreciate the details. Adding bilingual labels would make it perfect. Tip: Get there early (opens 9 AM) and prioritize the Mexica room for the Aztec Sun Stone.

Visited the Museo Nacional de Antropología and it’s incredibly impressive. The exhibits are massive and packed with history from the Aztec Sun Stone to detailed cultural displays and you could easily spend hours there. Just be prepared: it’s a lot of walking and a lot of reading and looking at artifacts. If you’re bringing little kids, definitely have a plan to keep them entertained because it can feel long for them.

It is well known that this is one of the best museums in Latin America and ranks amongst the best in the world. It will not disappoint. Visitors should come prepared to spend quite some time if they intend to visit the entire museum in one go. I recommend multiple visits so you do not feel overwhelmed. Maybe two cultures ("rooms" or exhibits) at the time. Keep in mind there are several exhibits, all of them quite extensive with large collections inside and many interesting and impressive elements outside. At least one of them (the Mayan exhibit) has an additional underground section. There are also some less-visited sections of the museum: the entire second floor has exhibits on ethnology. Very much worth a visit. There is also a very nice cafe. Worth going by for some authentic Mexican flavours.

I knew the cultures and histories of Mesoamerica were wide and varied but a visit to the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City helped fill many gaps. Some very learned and well travelled friends have tried to explain the different time frames regarding Mesoamerica, every one left out the Olmec culture/time frame. There is a large centre dedicated to the Olmec which is now known to have commenced 1800 BCE. Perhaps as new discoveries are made that date will be adjusted earlier. It is a necessity to book tour guides several days in advance and break your visit up into several days. There is just too much to absorb in one day. And visiting without a tour guide guarantees you miss 75% of what’s important. Signage regarding the exhibits are done very well but only a very low % are in English. I would prompt at least 2 guided tours over two days, and you still will not have seen it all. 3 days/3 tours would be optimum if time, $ and endurance allow. Attend early in the day as crowds build throughout the day. Wear good walking shoes as the grounds are huge. The washrooms we found were located near the entry and in the cafeteria, which are both a long walk from the far end of the grounds. The gift shop is well stocked but pricy. As an example T-shirt’s are priced around $800 pesos. We found a 2 hour tour to be plenty long as there is a plethora of information coming at you. It’s exhausting but so worth it.

Probably the most fascinatingly designed museum I've visited. Really enjoyed the layout, the in and outdoor spaces blending together. Seamless flow throughout and remarkable history to peruse. We were in a time crunch, but were first to arrive (arrived 15 minutes before entry and were first in line but that could be due to the holidays) and did a speed-run of the museum with what felt like the place to ourselves. Spent an hour, could've spent 3. Lots to see, lots to learn. Can buy tickets just as easy as the counter if online gives you trouble. **Also recommend not buying until you see the line, we bought in advance for the day before, and when we saw the lineup at 12pm, decided to forget it and come back for opening****
