Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes

We found the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes to be a very interesting visit and I can certainly recommend it. The collection shows a great deal of sympathy for the people of Cuba, offering deep insight into the country's history from both political and industrial perspectives. The artwork powerfully explains the struggles the population has faced, including the hardships regarding food and poverty. The only downside to our visit was that a significant area was closed without any obvious reason or explanation. While this was disappointing, the parts we did see were moving and worth the trip.

The Museum of Fine Arts in Havana is located in the centre of the city. The entrance fee is 65 CUP for foreign visitors, and the building is in three floors. When I visited in July 2025, not all chambers were accessible and certain areas were under renovation. There are some fine works from the Cuban artists at displays and all the area in accessed by a ramp which goes around the three floors. Unfortunately, there are no elevators, and the air conditioning is not efficient.

Firstly, it's difficult to trust the opening hours listed on Google or anywhere for this museum. You either have to call or go and see for yourself if they're open. It was 5USD for my girlfriend and I and it's not exactly clear the best pathway to explore the museum. There is some nice art here, no question, but half of the place was locked off with no explanation as to why. It's very confusing frankly

A jewel! We all know more or less what Cuban music is about, but you really need to see Cuban art of the 20th century to appreciate the versatility of Cuban culture. It's a pleasure for the eyes and the soul even for people with limited knowledge and interest in the visual arts. It is only such a pity that the 19th century section is closed due to lack of staff. Cubans, your absolutely exquisite culture is the most precious thing you can hang on to, be proud of and present to the world in these dire times!

This is officially my favourite art museum in the whole world! The art was very impressive and beautiful, and of a very high standard - I was blown away throughout (got a little lost though!) Majority Cuban artists, mostly art from the 20th Century and a little before and after. I really liked the soviet building itself too, I didn’t see the other building with the stain glass roof as seen in other reviews.

An impressive building with an equally impressive collection of Cuban art from the 50s onward. Entry is a ludicrous 65 pesos. Some sections were closed for reasons unknown but the accessible parts were sufficient for an hour or two of quality viewing. All descriptive text in Spanish only and they lack the profit-generating museum store one might expect. Still, very much recommended.

1/2 of the museum was closed off. All of the signage is in Spanish. Would recommend getting a tour guide if someone in your party can’t translate from Spanish. Art we saw was circa 1957-1975. Cuba obviously has a rich artistic history, and this museum could be so much more comprehensive and compelling.

One of the best museums in the world, I have been to many and the art is really without equal. Contemporary and modern artists shine, hire a tour guide to get the full impression of the art.
